Thank you for making that simple to follow and showing me what you’re talking about! I am new to ALL of this-photography too and needed every bit of info.
Hi. Thanks for the video. One question, do i need to turn on the camera when i'm balancing the gimbal? Firstly I balanced my gimbal with my camera turned off and everything was fine and balanced. Then when i turned on my camera I noticed my camera started tilting downwards because of the camera lens moving forward which causes the weight to be shifted more to the front as the camera is turned on.
if the lens is retractable then it will shift the balance for sure. Best practice is to balance with the Camera on to know exactly what you will get once you are using it
Hi Otto, I use cameras for all my realestate listings and have just upgraded the video aspect and gimbal. Your video is brilliant, no more needs to be said. Actually there is, thank you.
@@OttoJulian_ Hi again. Just fired up my dji mini 2 to another one of your videos but sadly this time the controller is faulty. An issue that seems to be prevalent on the internet
Many thanks for this very good video. Just a question... I've just bought a Crane M3 Pro; I balanced the camera on the axis, I did the auto calibration, but during the movement I notice some vibration! Is there some way to eliminate this problem? Thank you! 🙂
@@OttoJulian_ Hi... I use different cameras. Leica, Canon and Fuji, but I was having some test with a Fuji X-T20 because I think the Leica SL2-S and the 5D are too heavy for the M3. I have resolved (or I think to have resolved) setting "Motor Torque" on "Low". Is that the solution in your opinion? Many thanks for your willingness! 🙂
Hey Otto from Calgary Canada! Thanks for this step by step balancing video...much better than trying to read the manual...and MUCH better than others in here...every other so called "balancing video" they fly through it without explaining anything in detail "just do this and this and there you go..done!" and you have no idea what they just turned, adjusted or anything....or there's one guy who says "I always use these parts and these rigs to balance, so just do this and this...." which means to balance you have to buy what he has to even follow his instructions!! One question for you: during step 2 when you turn the camera up, and have to turn that thumb switch to loosen that arm, my handle of the switch hits the ZV-E10 handgrip and is unable to move...and it looks like it does for you as well, as your video cuts at that point and shows a different view. What do you do to get past that? I had to guess at where it might balance, and try to do that step before step 1.
My reply got deleted somehow! anyway I was saying that I know how it feels watching those kind of tutorials where they go too fast (and still manage to make it a 15min video!) So the handle you are talking about it's annoying indeed. Multiple ways to approach that, but I try to push the camera "back" a bit so that handle will spin. Try loosen the screw at the bottom (the one that screws the plate to the camera) just a bit so you can manipulate the camera enough. Hope this helps and I hope everything is good over there at Calgary!
@@OttoJulian_ hmm ok...so loosen the camera mount screw to move it out of the way enough that I can turn the screw.... I can try that! Also, I have the Sigma 16mm lens that others have balanced on this gimbal but I can't get it to go.. just too front heavy...so I'm not sure how they do it! Thanks for the reply also!
Very clear guide. I wish you would had shown how to balance the phone. What power brick are you using? Do you recommend the Freewell ND FILTER? thank you!

Hi Otto, thanks for your nice video, i'm going to buy this Gimbal for channel, i have a Lumix G7, do you think that this Gimbal will be ok for my camera? Thanks in advance, Alberto
I’m asking myself why is Zhiyun not putting the quick release plate in the standard package?Whomhas the time to calibrate each time the camera on a gimbal? Why aren’t these plates available for normal prices?
From what i heard you can’t. This reduces the battery life of the gimbal as the battery beed to charge the camera as well. It is a complaint i heard. On Sony cameras i recommend not using the cable as you lose face detection (as it is required to set pc remote to on which deactivate it). It is better to keep a bluetooth remote Sony or Revo to start/stop with bluetooth. You can also control focus shutter and zoom and c1 bitton with the remote with the left hand and keep the gimbal in the right hand for example. There is a loop to attach the remote to anything and not losing it. You can control still or movies with a switch.
Hi Otto, thanks for you tutorial. I have similar ZV-E10 Sony but I cant manage with cable USB-C : may be I have to download a app for gimbal or my camera Sony? Thanks Alberto
This is my first gimbal, so appreciate the simplicity of your video. I'm using it with the Sony a6600. When connected to the gimbal, I love it that I can use the record button on the gimbal. Any firmware updates to control the camera's aperture, etc? Also, is there a way to turn off the charging of the camera while it is connected? I don't want to drain the gimbal's battery.
you are welcome Dennis! you can't turn off the charging for now, not sure if that will ever be a thing and that's the downside of using the cable. Usually my 2 solutions are, not to use the cable, or carry with me a powerbank to charge the gimbal if needed.
Might have been a firmware update, but I had the same question. Mine was not charging, but when I went to settings and power output on the gimbal, you can choose open or close. I had to set mine to open to get it to charge so you may find that setting yours to close will stop it from charging your camera.
Like always, meaningful and to the point. I also had a look at your previous videos back in months ago. Still productive since I found one of my questions answered regarding DJI Mini-2 in that video.
Hello Otto! A question, with what system or how did you attached the Gopro to the Zhiyun? and besides the record button that doesn't work with Gopro what else doesn't?.......thanks.... you're doing a great job
hi! nothing special, just placed the gopro on a regular mount (with a 1/4" thread hole) and that goes directly into the quick release plate that I showed on the video. Record button doesn't work on the gopro, but gimbal modes, follow speed, joystick, etc will work. The Gopro needs to be operated manually (changing modes, settings, start or stop recording, etc)
hye Thank you for your video. I have do all set up like on your video and all it's ok expect the record bottom. I have connect the usb c cable in my Crane M3 and in my Sony ZVe10 but the control not workin. Must I do anything else ? synchro or something ? Thank you
yeah the gimbal is pretty nice. I wish I could mount bigger cameras/lenses, but I guess that's the whole point of the smaller size. Thanks for the feedback!
Sorry about the late response. I wanted to try it out before responding but it has been impossible. I can’t remember if it was possible since I only used the PZ zoom lens a couple of times
Hello. Quick question . Does zhiyun crane m3 have quick set up? Example on a trip where you have your gimbal and camera on your bag and just want a quick footage. I really had a hard time with my old gimbal and I end up giving up on it specially I’m always catching my kid running around with a gimbal.
hello Han. Yeah I completely understand your situation. Well, if you keep using just one camera then you can leave the release plate at the bottom and not change the positions of the arms. If you have different cameras, the position of the arms will change every time you change your device.... hope this helps
For each axis there is a value indicated. Note that configs for each lens you use. And you should be able to restore a previous config in seconds. No need to recalibrate each time. Weebill 3 is more easier to balance even the first time. A small gimbal like the m3 is more difficult and most of the reviewer admit they fail to balance the pan axis. With weebill 3 everybody say it is the most easier gimbal to balance. And the motor and locks are even stronger. You can put any lens combo nearly. It is 400g heavier but have better stabilization and more compatible with more cameras and allow more angle movement. Better battery, and have an embedded micro and lights. Weebill 3 is Compatible with a7c. M3 is not ( if you want to use the buttons on the gimbal). I recommend using a bluetooth remote to keep face detection on sony cameras for all zhiyun and dji gimbal.
@@OttoJulian_ Thanks much appreciated. I recently chatted with an agent from Zhiyun regarding my query and they confirmed that the Sony ZV-E10's protocols have not been provided to Zhiyun. I did express my disappointment. However, I found a solution to the record and zoom function. 1. Balance the ZV-E10 2. Plugin the Type C to Type C for charging in case you don't have any spare batteries 3. Pair a mobile to the ZV-E10 using Sony's Image Edge App and select Remote option. 4. Mount the mobile to the Gimbal using a hot shoe type adaptor that can hold your Mobile. Now you have both worlds. I used an old mobile which does the job pretty well. Not i'd share with you. Feel free to make a video or get in touch by all means. If you find a better solution I would be most interested. Thanks Shenil
Great video! Did anyone try the Crane M3 with Sony zv-e10 and Sony 18-105mm F4 lens? This particular lens is not included on the compatibility list but I see heavier lens from Sigma are on the list. Thanks in advance!

great tutorial. Got some nice toys there my friend! Question.. if you were a member of the peanuts gang, who would you be? I like to think of myself as a Linus, but I am really more of a Charlie Brown
1 question, do these camera gimbals have features like gesture control which smaller, cheaper, phone gimbals like OM4 have? its a nice trick when you want to film yourself and you are alone.
@@OttoJulian_ oh...if the zhiyun could build these into the next version of m3, then i think they will seriously put DJI out of gimbal business! it would be a killer gimbal at the price and size!!!
Hello Otto, i'm here 1 year after your video. I recevied today my gimbal, and I've some questions. One of them is, my gymbal is not connecting with my cam and I don't know why. My cam is a Sony ZVE10, and when I connect the usb C, the camera tells me to look at the connected device, but nothing appears... It's a little confusing, but in short, I can't connect via Bluetooth and USB C
I think that the M3 had limited functions if used with your camera. The record button should work but the dial in the front doesn’t. I can’t be 100% sure now and I can’t test it in the time being
@@zhiyunsupportglobal706 so whats the point here ? these are crucial features you should provide update i bought it for my iphone at least it should record on and stop from a dedicate button
is it now possible to use the camera control functions directly from the gimbal? i have a sony zve10. but i can't connect it, or I don't know how. thank you
hello Claudio, go to my M2S review video, at 5:10 you will see how I did set it up to work with the cable. I haven't tried that with the M3 yet. Let me know if it works
Hi.. I have some major issues..I cannot record the button of recording using the cable plz help me...my fujifilmxt4 and crane m3 was not properly usb connected??
My M3 isn't charging my Sony ZV 1. I have the correct cable connecting the camera to the M3. I can start and stop recording using the M3, but for some reason, the M3 is not charging the camera. Must be a settings issue? I've tried a couple of different settings, but no luck yet. Suggestions? We are going to Europe soon and I'd like the gimbal charging the camera so I don't have to change batteries every half hour.

@@OttoJulian_ Thanks! The Power Zoom 16-35mm F4 Serie G FF... What do you think? It's 300 Gms. Thanks.
Thank you for your video. I have gone through the video to set up the gimbal but when I do auto calibration it states failed.
Are you using a long lens ?
Thanks for the tutorial. I have some problems though. After Auto calibration it failed. What Can I do?
hope you were able to fix it
Tried to balance my crane forever with a different tutorial . But got it first time with yours thank you !!
Great!!! I’m really glad it was helpful, hope you enjoy using it 😀
Great tutorial!
Thank you!
Hello. Thanks for your video.
By putting the Crane M3 on a tripod, is it possible for it to follow the movement of a person?
Mmmm it doesn’t have tracking if that’s what you are asking
Thank you for your reply !@@OttoJulian_
Hi Otto, thanks for you tutorial. I have similar ZV-E10 Sony but I cant manage with cable USB-C : may be I have to download a app for gimbal or my camera Sony? Thanks Alberto
hello Alberto, I think there was a setting that had to be changed in the menu, I'll have to look again to see what it was
This is my first gimbal, so appreciate the simplicity of your video.
This video is really helpful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Like always, meaningful and to the point. I also had a look at your previous videos back in months ago. Still productive since I found one of my questions answered regarding DJI Mini-2 in that video.
Hello Amir!!! Thanks for your feedback!!
Very well done ,so informative video
You are welcome !!
Thank you for your tutorial
You're welcome Jarle!
Can u please tech how to use focusing object so, gimbal can move in the direction of the object whenever the object moves. Thank you
There is no tracking with this gimbal
Thanks inded. very helpful video. good job.🙏
My pleasure
Very well done! New to gimbals maybe in a up coming video you could go over each mode with examples. still a little unclear which one to use, thanks!
I will put this idea on the "Video Ideas List"! thanks
My canon m50 chord is not connected. I cant play the red button to record? Can you help me?
I wish I could but I don't have an M50 with me to try out
hye Thank you for your video.
I have do all set up like on your video and all it's ok expect the record bottom. I have connect the usb c cable in my Crane M3 and in my Sony ZVe10 but the control not workin. Must I do anything else ? synchro or something ?
Thank you
I think it’s the settings. I am planning to make a short video about this as soon as I get some time
I have this gimbal and cant figure out how to add camera control to an OMD Em1 MKii! But thats okay, because its pretty awesome!
yeah the gimbal is pretty nice. I wish I could mount bigger cameras/lenses, but I guess that's the whole point of the smaller size. Thanks for the feedback!
@@OttoJulian_ I have the Crane 3S but thats overkill for a small setup for my OMD, i use my eor R and large lenses with that gimbal.
Yeah agreed. I also have a bigger gimbal for bigger setups but I do appreciate having a smaller and lighter gimbal for smaller setups 😊
Thank you very much. This video has helped me a lot!
You're welcome!
So informative video for a newbie like me. Thanks much :)
Thanks!!
Can you control the zoom on Sony PZ lenses with this gimbal?
Hi did you get your zv e10 to work with the record mode and anyway to get zoom working?
I haven't used my ZV-E10 in a while, and lots of users have been asking the same question, I'll have to take a look at this again.
Nice review man !
Thanks!
Do the moter get overheat? Because your lens is long. It might consume power to balance you camera.
I haven't really had problems with overheating, but I usually don't use very long or heavy lenses
Hello . Please can I know which app to download on my phone to start using the zhiyun crane m3?
ZY Play
hey hey, great video! I would want to put my zv-e10 with my sigma 18-35 1.8 ART on there (1,5kg) would that be too heavy?
I think that’s too heavy for that gimbal
@@OttoJulian_ tx for replying! bummer :) will get a DJI RS3 then prob :)
@wimvandenborre706 you can get the RS3 Mini. There is a review on my channel
@@OttoJulian_ looking at it right now! :)
I need to know if has the follow function means to put to follow you in recording mode
Are you referring to tracking? This gimbal doesn’t have that
Great video! Did anyone try the Crane M3 with Sony zv-e10 and Sony 18-105mm F4 lens?
This particular lens is not included on the compatibility list but I see heavier lens from Sigma are on the list. Thanks in advance!
Did you test it? I think it doesn't work with this gimbal. Maybe with the new M3S which has bigger arms
Is it necessary to use an L-adapter for portrait mode?
Yeah. Have you seen the new model? The M3S. I have a video about it
This is very informative. 1 sub here
Awesome, thank you!
auto calibrate fails, can you tell me what might be wrong
Can you describe how it’s failing?
Thanks for this very usefull video. Short and crispy! Thank you;)
You are welcome! I hope the balancing instructions were clear enough, capturing the right (and best) angle was a bit challenging
Awesome info bro, thank you so much
you are welcome!
So good! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Thank you very useful!😁
You are welcome !
EXELENTE TU VIDEO GRACIAS!!
con mucho gusto!
Is there subject tracking with this gimbal? I can't seem to find it on the zy play app. I'm thinking its camera dependent.
no there is no tracking with this gimbal
@@OttoJulian_ I saw on this video this guy's crane m3 was tracking him th-cam.com/video/iEIWQapQHpo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7YSpr60uc3g-wkgT. Unfortunately that guy doesn't respond back to comments so I don't know how he got his to do subject tracking.
Thank you for the work and posting.
My pleasure!
hey otto i was wondering if you could do a comparison video for zhiyun smooth 5 vs q3? if you can thanks!
Hi Zoewee!! that one will be released in a few days
hello i have canon m50 mark2 can i use the record button with the gimbal ?
I don't think they tested that camera so I'm not so sure, sorry
Hi! You need to use Micro USB Bluetooth Control Unit and Expansion Base to control with the record button. 😸
great tutorial. Got some nice toys there my friend!
Question.. if you were a member of the peanuts gang, who would you be?
I like to think of myself as a Linus, but I am really more of a Charlie Brown
Lol that made my day. You know, I'm not really sure that I can relate to any of them, but I do like Snoopy as a character a lot 😄
Best explained loved your video
Hello Raja!! Thank you so much!!
@@OttoJulian_ 😍😍😍😍😍😍
1 question, do these camera gimbals have features like gesture control which smaller, cheaper, phone gimbals like OM4 have? its a nice trick when you want to film yourself and you are alone.
no, there is no gesture control, just like there is no tracking
I can’t be 100% sure now and I can’t test it in the time being
can the gimbal control the phone ? iphone 13 pro
like video on off buttons? if yes please let me know how
Hi! CRANE-M3 only provides stabilization for mobile phones and action cameras. Button controls are not supported.
@@zhiyunsupportglobal706 so whats the point here ? these are crucial features you should provide update i bought it for my iphone at least it should record on and stop from a dedicate button
Thanks. Good video
Glad it helped
Is there a button in thr gimbal to capture photo?
the shutter button should take a pic if you are in photo mode
Tysm brother 🙏
Welcome 😊
Tks loot !
you are welcome!!
How do you take pictures with gimbal?
shutter button but you need to change the mode manually on your camera anyway
is it now possible to use the camera control functions directly from the gimbal? i have a sony zve10. but i can't connect it, or I don't know how. thank you
hello Claudio, go to my M2S review video, at 5:10 you will see how I did set it up to work with the cable. I haven't tried that with the M3 yet. Let me know if it works
@@OttoJulian_ nope… I really don’t know why 😞
Nice tutorial.

Hi.. I have some major issues..I cannot record the button of recording using the cable plz help me...my fujifilmxt4 and crane m3 was not properly usb connected??
sorry I don't have experience with the fujifilm system. Anyone who can help him would be appreciated
what does the moon icon mean,
when does it appear on the screen?
standby mode
My M3 isn't charging my Sony ZV 1. I have the correct cable connecting the camera to the M3. I can start and stop recording using the M3, but for some reason, the M3 is not charging the camera. Must be a settings issue? I've tried a couple of different settings, but no luck yet. Suggestions? We are going to Europe soon and I'd like the gimbal charging the camera so I don't have to change batteries every half hour.
Sorry about the late reply, I don't have the M3 anymore so I can't test or look into it.
