@@vincentv1790 I did get mine Oct 2019, it was manufactured around July. I'm leasing my car. Right off the bat, I had one recall that involved a possible sudden emergency stop auto activating while on the highway. Only one or a couple cases of this happening, but due to the severity of this glitch, I'm glad they recalled them and fixed that promptly. Also, when I bought my car the dealership already fixed an earlier recall where the rear view mirror had issues coming lose. Later, I had to take my car in for another recall that involved the possibility of a scenario where you could lock the key fob inside the car. Lastly, I had to bring my car in for another "recall", not really one, but Mazda had a software update on my system that enabled a new feature in my car for free. They gave my car the ability to remote start, unlock/lock and turn lights on/off through my smartphone app for Mazda. No other recalls aside from the two I had to take it in for, that rear-view mirror one, and that complimentary connected services feature. Not bad for a new generation on a car model. Now for quality issues, I've had issues with the weather seals on the driver and passenger front doors. They started tearing and sticking when opening and closing the doors. They fixed it and haven't had issues since. That's it for me. Never had to pay a penny.

I've found during hard acceleration from stop that it doesn't jump around (stays grounded) better than my other FWD's. I got the polymetal gray and it's such a nice color. Just discovered Mazda and glad I did. Best car I've ever owned.

These new Mazda's are arguably the best value in each category. Never thought I would see a Japanese import with all these features. This Mazda puts out more HP and torque than the Foxbody Mustang 5.0's.
Subaru refuses to offer adaptive cruise control with a manual transmission. (The NA 2.5l Mazda3 with a manual transmission has adaptive cruise.) Mazda says active lane keep assist took away too much steering feel. I would rather Mazda's philosophy here. Of course, what I really want is a Mazda 2.5T with a manual transmission. I'm looking mighty hard at the Hyundai Elantra N when that comes to the US next year.
They didn't refuse, the engineering challenges in combining computerized adaptive cruise to a transmission that wasn't computer controlled are to great. They tried.
@@fubartotale3389 Honda, Toyota, and (much smaller) Mazda have each combined an adaptive cruise with a manual transmission. If Subaru tried but couldn't, that's worse.
You can actually change radio channels with the Mazda 3 without needing to go into the menu. I have the 2019 Sedan and found out the other day that if you hold the volume knob to the left or right it will move down or up a channel. You need to HOLD it down though. Just pressing it as if you want to go to the next track on Spotify isn't enough. Same story with the steering wheel skip buttons. it can be done that way. I dont see Mazda explaining this anywhere but there you go, give it a try!
Good review, good looking car with upscale interior. Just wishing a more driving-oriented Awd system that could generate more than 50% power to the rear wheels :)
great car. i like our 2010 mazda 3 still. its light, good on gas, looks ok inside. i have 06 subaru wrx. both are different cars. this new mazda is like putting both together but the awd is totally different. it's not easy to beat a subaru in challenging road conditions.
They have improved in a lot of ways, and I like their cars a lot. I bought a Subaru Impreza in 2019 before the AWD 3 or CX-30 were available. I would consider them for sure if I were buying a car today. I dont really care about lane tracing, and it is great that they have an otherwise complete driver assistance suite standard. The wide rear pillars of the hatchback really put me off, but the styling of the sedan is beautiful. I really hate that they went to a beam rear axle though, and why not a true touch screen infotainment system?
@@thomaselwood12 Touch screens can certainly be "dangerous" i.e. distracting to use. However, my contention, and many road testers seems to agree, that the central button operated infotainment system Mazda uses is more complicated and distracting than most touch systems, so equally or more so "dangerous". Also, Android Auto, which is the primary feature I use (provides both navigation and music) is specifically engineered to touch operation. In fact, I believe the new CX-50 allows touch commands when AA is in use.
@edsmith9855 My older 2014 Mazda 3 had a touchscreen. I always preferred using the wheel. It really is a lot more of memory muscle and easier to operate than a touchscreen.
You did your best run with a full tank which adds considerable weight. Using the old drag racers trick of just enough to get you to the quarter mile..guarantee it would do under 6 seconds if you wait until the low fuel warning pops up😌 Having said that, don't think Mazda is too worried about the 0-60 as they've moved the 3 into sporty, near luxury compact territory..and the power is more than adequate. How do I know? I'm been driving my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch for going on 9 months now..and still love it🤘
Impreza hatch with turbo 4 and manual - no "boy racer" WRX kit needed. That's on my list of things that I'd like to see Subaru deliver (along with a Legacy that is outfitted to be a true sports sedan.)
@@DaddyDan77 Only thing I changed with my 2014 wrx hatch is I bought the COBB accessport and did the stage 1 93 tune...way better daily driver than Subarus tune in every way possible..more power, torque, smoother, throttle response is far better.

That’s how this works too. It’s the exact same transmission setup you have. If you just move the lever over without manually shifting it will still work in automatic mode. You have to manually shift it at least once and then it will hold the gear and happily bounce on the rev limiter if you let it.

Consumer Reports has repeatedly mentioned how awkward the Mazda infotainment system can be, requiring multiple actions to make what should be a simple change. You are the first reviewer I've seen to actually demonstrate this. Yes, it does show a surprising lack of foresight in this regard, though - considering how well the rest of this Mazda is designed - it shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
I have the sedan turbo... and its amazing. Im not a hatch back person. :) the sedan has a lot more leg room for passenger too. Fyi: you can get this car in manual but the manual is front wheel drive and non-turbo.
There is no doubt that this Mazda is a better looking car than a Subaru WRX. But when the push comes to the shove, Mazda's part time Haldex AWD is no match to Subaru's full time AWD. Also the latter comes with a manual transmission that outperforms Mazda's automatic when driving on slippery surfaces. The HP advantage of the WRX doesn't hurt either
Usually, car designs end up growing on me. They come out and I go "oh, well...not so sure". And six months later, i'm fine with it. And now, for me, the Mazda 3 does the exact opposite. The more it goes, the more I genuinely hate this design. That blind spot in the back really, really, really gets on my nerves.
I’m only 18 and have an 04 Mazda 3, I would die for a new Mazda 3 sport. They look very dependable and slick. I love my Mazda and watching you drive this thing makes me wanna get in mine and mess around a bit. But I do get a bit of fomo watching you at the same time😂
really a great car. Love the interiors and the outside design of the car. I have tried the the 2.0 awd (not this turbo version) and felt like it was lacking on torque power (i guess this has now been resolved with the turbo version). Also, the exhaust sound was not very exciting (I know this inst a sports car but still this details kinda turns me off)
ZF8 is a longitudinal transmission. There are other 8spd units for transverse applications (e.g. Aisin) but it was probably not in Mazda's R&D budget to incorporate those.
To answer the verbiose gps thing - it’s because just a decade ago telling gps to navigate someplace via voice would frequently end with the gps pointing to the wrong place. Saying it back insures the driver the instructions were received properly. I hate it too. But that’s why it happens.
At 18:00 he mention that they only have a basic radar distance cruise control but he doesnt know about the Traffic Jam insist that next to the adaptive cruise control . It only works will under 35-40 mph , will help keep you in the middle of the lane and will follow the car ahead in stop and go traffic. Drove in a 1 hour of LA stop and go traffic and almost never had to touch the gas , break or put much steering input , just had to keep my hands on the steering wheel so it would stay activated. Really awesome future that should have been reviewed!
I've been waiting for a new Mazdaspeed since 2013. This looks like it could be close to a replacement however the lack of a manual transmission is a MAJOR MAJOR NO GO. That was a big fail on their part to be honest. Everything else seems great and that color is on point. Nice to see the little sporty hatchbacks being competitive though. Thanks Focus RS for starting the trend haha.
The car has decent power, but it isn’t sporty like the older Mazda3’s are. It’s a premium car, you don’t really have a lot of fun in it. I’ve got this and a 10 Mazda3 2.5 hatch. The 10 is much more fun to drive while having a bit more than half the power. This one smokes the other one so much, but the other one is more zippy and handles better imo.
The thing that's holding Mazda back are their straight forward old school reliable 6 speed autos. Everyone else is using Boring CVTs or less refined DCTs but both are getting better mpg and DCTs have potential to be somewhat refined and feel more sporty. Mazda needs to break out of the 6 speed auto game to push their branding.

But if you’re after a little fun, too, I think the Mazda 3 wins out over the Civic no contest.
My 1990 Plymouth Acclaim had the washer sprayer on the blades also. I don't know why more auto makers don't do that. Makes perfect sense.

Absolutely beautiful. Such an awesome hatchback, super happy Mazda finally released something like this. Would definitely like to see a proper hot hatch from them as well, though. 2021 Mazda 3 GX Sport owner here. The issue you have with the channel list being hard to navigate. You can give the command through AI to play a specific channel or tune you like from your phone so that is the shortcut instead of rolling all the way down the list. Works for XM well. Only con i don't like about the car is the physical visibility but all models have the same safety systems such as blind sport monitoring to help with this. I love it :) Interior is so upscale and probably the best interior to be in compared to any base models on the market today. It's so ergonomic too requiring next to no thought to select or do what you want to do. Highly recommend the base model! Even got the fuel rating down to 5.9L/100km on the highway so far.
Now that's a what I call a car review, amazing scenery made me want to get in my car and go for a drive.

I'm a very quiet guy so I appreciate this reporter's yappy personality. Love the car by the way.
Fantastic quality video! I own the 2019 AWD and in the snow, I say even on my all-season tires, it outperformed many AWD SUV's and other AWD cars with all-seasons. I live in icy Spokane, WA and this has been bar-none the best winter car I've ever driven for the money. Legit handles snow and icy better than my wife's 2016 Subaru Outback if that gives any comparison. Love this Mazda!
Doesnt it have alot of recalls on their first year? Please explain as far as what have been fixed under warranty?

Greetings Spokane! We live in Lake Chelan (have a son and daughter-in-law in Spokane). Get lots of snow here as well. I've driven manual FWD my whole life, and my new M3 manual 6 FWD is by FAR the best at handling snow (all seasons) of all the cars I've driven. Holds straight (backend stays in line better). This is a great review! I've been looking for a thorough review of this car inside and out and this is the best one I've come across.
One thing to note on the 0-60, I've read that a few journalists are getting much better times once the car is thoroughly broken in (which makes sense). I read an article yesterday of someone who got 0-60 in around 6.3 seconds on average with 200 miles on the odometer, and then was getting closer to 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with 800 miles on the odometer. I dont know if this was the case with your presser, but who knows. Great video, you've gained a subscriber!
The rumor is 600 miles on the odometer and the tune is fully uncorked. I'll report back in another 250 miles when my sedan breaks that milestone.

If Subaru tried but couldn't, that's worse.

great car. i like our 2010 mazda 3 still. its light, good on gas, looks ok inside. i have 06 subaru wrx. both are different cars. this new mazda is like putting both together but the awd is totally different. it's not easy to beat a subaru in challenging road conditions.
Whoa, beam rear axle? Toyota just FINALLY got away from that with their Prius and Corolla and now Mazda is cheaping out?
They had to to increase the quality elsewhere. Also touchscreens are just downright dangerous.
@@edsmith9855 i have owned a mazda 3 with that button and wheel layout and it's infinitely better and safer than touchscreen.
I'm been driving my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch for going on 9 months now..and still love it🤘
Subaru, please make an answer to this with a stick shift! - Nice job Mazda.

I have tried the the 2.0 awd (not this turbo version) and felt like it was lacking on torque power (i guess this has now been resolved with the turbo version). I thought they would’ve went with the ZF8 speed transmission and bigger brakes on the turbo car. The WRX is safe lol

With the paddle shift, and sports mode, it is quite similar. Just no clutch. People need to rethink the auto. Lamborghini did!
