    I've watched your Rocket Race videos a number of times, and finally built one that came in at 40 grams flat. It flies stellar! Securing the battery has been my only struggle. Great quad!!!!

      Yes, the battery holding is a challenge. I use the rubber bands I linked in the original video. Yea age and break, then I just replace them. I think there might be some 3d prints available that would work but nothing specific that I designed.

    Bro...I really appreciate your videos. I'm very new to the FPV scene, and I love your chill attitude towards the hobby. I don't feel intimidated like I do when watching some other videos. I have experience with the Phantom 4 Pro and want to move on to freestyle, but I'm not interested in competition, just fun....and maybe sharing videos of my flights to my friends and family on FB.
    Your videos promote that fun I'm looking for and I learned more than I thought I would without feeling overwhelmed. Thanks for that.
    Peace.
    P.S. Your flights around your house are AMAZING! Sometimes I play them while I work (I work from home).

    Hey Nick ! Just a quick clarification, the Foxeer Toothless 2 Nano is the same weight (give or take 0.1g) as the Baby Ratel 2 ... I felt it was unclear in your video about whether it was "2g" heavier than the Ant Lite or BR2. I fly both on 3"/3.5" builds (they are heavy for these little guys!) and they're both great, can't go wrong either way. And I have come to agree with you on the image quality vs weight debate... I tend to put nicer/heavier cams now rather than light/trash (and I really hate Ant cams, don't know why people like them!!) Great video please do more of these "Deep Thoughts by Nick Burns" videos, it really doesn't always have to be about the newest+greatest stuff !!!

    Hello! just finished a build inspired on this one. 38g. Made a lot of mistakes and spent too much money on it. Started with a uruav 85 that I got at a very good price and a Mini twiglet frame. Couldn't use motor plugs as they don't fit with the frame. To difficult to solder motors to that board. When it was done I made the most stupid mistake, pluged the smoke stopper and then a small 4s battery that was beside the right one. Smoke came out. So, bought a new board that cost almost as much as the uruav 85 had cost me, a JHMCU GSF405A-BMI F4 that has a uart based elrs receiver and a OX300 VTX. First flight, first crash, a motor got loose and a wire came off the motor. Managed too solder it but I don't know how well it would work. While putting it all toghether again, two wires came off another motor and coudn't solder them back. So, new motors bought, some happymodel ex1102 that I think are the same as the uruav ones but cheaper. This started in November 2021 and I'm at this moment charging batteries (2s GNB 380mah) to go and maiden it, again. 60g total. It'll go well this time!!

      @@KOrnhOliO1 It's flying pretty good! Quite fast. Camera ain't very good and get's jello if props aren't pristine. Betafpv Mini Twiglet frame, JHMCU GSF405A-BMI F4 with elrs, OVX300 VTX, Caddx Ant Lite camera, Happymodel ex1102 10000Kv motors with 1,5mm shaft, Gemfan Hurricane 2023 props, UZ85 cannopy, 4 m2 screws and 16 nylon nuts for spacing and holding FC and cannopy, 2 zipties to hold antennas up with some heatshrink, 1 ziptie to hold leads down to the frame and a rubber band (bycicle inner tube) holding a 380mah gnb 2s battery with xt30. Cannopy and camera came from the UZ85 I had started with. UZ85 and FC was from Banggood, the rest from Aliexpress. Hope it helps.

If it's not your policy, still file a claim on the policy that covers the content of the building and recoup some dough to get started again. Be sure to use full boat trial prices and the new chip shortage prices, not the old. Go for it, and you'll be flying FPV again in no time! 😎🤘

    This quad is a lot of fun, I have built several and some didn't work as well and one caught on fire after a crash but when the X12 board came out I knew I had to build another. I cut my own frame so I could make it slightly bigger, closer to 82mm so there's more clearance for the props, I was a little worried about a prop taking off the ELRS antenna now they're clear of the FC board and I'm running the baby ratel 2. With the slightly larger frame and the baby ratel 2 it weighs just under 41 grams. I also use screws to hold the props, I broke 2 motor shafts in mild crashes before using screws and I haven't broke any with screws.

  • @stelic9515
    @stelic9515 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you alot for the topic, I can say from the testings I made, the lighter a quad is the less demage will have in a crush. However this is until one point, after that you sacrifice and the quad become weacker. One example in my case is props bolts, to save 1.5 grams I run the quad without bolts and I bent a motor shaft, after that I mount bolts back, So I prefer a bit more heawy but much stronger. My favorite quads classes are whoops and 1s toothpicks. I started with big and after get smaller and smaller. Small is better and cheaper.

Similar to your Gemfan 2023 propellers, 1102 10000kV motors, one on AIO Crazybee V2.2 with Nano 2 camera and weighs 35.5g, the other on AIO Crazybee V3.0 and Vtx 200mW ,with Nano 4 camera and weighs 41.7g. Both drones they fly great, but with slightly different speed, agility and inertia. My observations are similar to yours.

  • @gilebike
    @gilebike ปีที่แล้ว

    By looking at the footage i can say that the lighter quad is faster,but the weight difference would be more noticable in the hard acro manuvers like power loops or juicy flick...it all comes to the point of flight style and the question would you sacriface fliying abbilities to gain video perception ,and off course,smaller the props are the weight is more noticable.

  • @stelic9515
    @stelic9515 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, I am really interest in this
    I try to build an 1s toothpick like crux 3 using darwinfpv baby ape internals with 1103 motors and 3 inch props. The problem is I can't make the quad less than 60 grams without some sacrifice that are important (smaller buzzer 1g + weacker build 1g and short power cable and switch from xt30 to bt 2.0 1g ) Even with this is impossible to be lighter than 57 grams
    So how it compare with a 46 gram quad
    on 1s. So weight+ battery is 77g and to crux3 is 63 g

    Hi Nick created similar to your build. Like your light but with baby ratel2. It came in 32.5 g. But pid tunes are off for those 1102 motors and GF 2023, wherever I put those motors, they give a LOT of flight time but the performance are not so great, prop wash and other stuff (when I fly GF 2in by blades quad flies better but feels underpowered). In some of your videos you say that you choose them because of easy pit tuning, maybe you could show your pid tunes?

    Been looking at kitbashing a quad, there's a printable version of this frame online? With a number of whoops, 1-2s I've been wanting to dive deeper into tinkering after trashing a frame. 2-3/3.5 inch is where I'd like to stay. I do have a few big quads and live in Canada, so luckier there. I did start earlier this year and went analog and enjoy it. Waiting to see what early 2023 has for Digital, but that's more expensive gear to crash. I'm happy where I am. And after the T-Lite v2 review a little while back, I went sloppy sticks and it's greatly improved my flying. Nice to see what weight differences can do. I have both a mobila 6 and 6DH (1080p-drv). Took the HD's 19000kv motors and swapped with the non HD's 25000kv and noticed right away the weight isn't as bad with the 25000kv motors. Thanks for the ideas, once I've thrashed what I have, good for the indoors flying season and something to build for next year.

    These new micro rippers seem great but are a bit too expensive for me atm, at least compared to the old brushed micros.

I switched to IllusionFPV rates and it helped the agility of the Mob7 a ton but I’d still like some faster roll. Rates I’m using right now are 1000 roll, 950 pitch, 700 yaw. Feels okay but was curious what you’re running.

      I use 960 pitch and roll and 1200 on yaw. The raw rate numbers aren't the full picture. I use betaflight rates or 1.2, 1.2 and 1.3 (pitch, roll & yaw) I use super rates of .75 and .80. The super rate is at the very end of the stick resolution. I use more yaw as I have found my "nose" tracking is better with more yaw....which makes sense as yaw is a passive axis....at least it was for years, I can't say it still is with betaflight 4.3

    The 250g rule has forced me to be a weight snob.
    And now there is no dji hd fpv quad that's under 250g that can fly for 20min+ for some fun long range cruising. 😥
    Seems like the rules and me wanting dji hd fpv has left me with no option.

    I think you and JB and Botgrinder and people like that we need to do more with analog and cheap Box goggles to get new people into the hobby too many have gone on this digital kick to the detriment of the whole hobby this is just my opinion

      Well, that's certainly one way of looking at it.
      I'll flip the coin and take the other side! 😁✅ I feel the exact opposite is appropriate. My feelings are, why put effort into making videos about a dying format? Analog is dying. It will die completely and be buried and dead. Tech moves on, and analog FPV will too. Don't believe me? Watch. Manufacturers will eventually see such poor sales of analog gear that they will discontinue making it. When that happens with all of the manufacturers, analog will be dead. It's happened with all old tech when new tech advances. Course, you could still be calling people on your analog cell phone, and watching movies on your VHS, and listening to music with cassette tapes, maybe even 8-tracks, who knows, but most of us feel in the present tech, not the past. 🤷👍
      So, I'd rather see videos about the advancing tech we now have. Builds of quads with digital FPV involved. I actually think a lot of new people in the hobby are completely skipping analog, and are smart to skip a dying format. It's also much easier to build with the new digital components and at least for DJI digital, it's incredibly more reliable. 4 wires hooks up a Vista... A ground, a voltage, and a Uart... And RX & TX. No VTX tables to confuse you in Betaflight, no camera video in and video out, no VTX unlocking with flashing LEDs to figure out manual power settings, and no smart audio. Way easier, and way, Way better! Plus, with the V2 goggles coming down in price it's cheaper than analog and the Goggles most but for it.
      Lightweight builds with digital, whether it be DJI, HDZero, or WalkShart, are all great to see! I want to dwell in the future, and not the past. 2022+ tech, not 2011.
      I've built a similar DJI digital quad to your TKS light and heavy with a naked Caddx Vista with the great Nebula Pro Nano camera. It weighs much less than your heavy build, but slightly more than your light one. Around 38g, but lighter is certainly possible as I only had a 20amp AIO FC/ESC board available, so I used it. I've done the math, added every little screw, the XT30, wires, canopy, etc... And I feel it's possible to turn the corner on 30 grams and get into the high 20's. With the right components and carefully doing weight saving!
      Let's do some builds with digital and live in the future of FPV, and say goodbye to a dying format. I told myself about a year and a half ago, that I was never going to buy any more analog only gear ever again. It's a waste of money! 🤔😎🤘

      @@KOrnhOliO1 Most people would 100% want to follow your thinking, it is VERY valid, I would love to be able to have 100% digital…
      money is the hindrance for most, and pretty hard to beat a less than 5 gram 5in1 board for micros. For 3.5”+ I LOVE digital!
      As I am intertwined in the manufacturing in China I can tell you that new analog gear is still developed and made currently, and that the demand is very high, it will fortunately/unfortunately stick around for the next 10 years at least.
      Gotta realize that more than 50% in this hobby are poor or not willing to pay more than $100 for goggles/radio.
      I (irresponsibility) spent $15k on FPV the past 12 months, most cannot even if they wanted to.
      I am just grateful that this hobby is relatively accessible, if analog didn’t exist many would not be able to participate/experience it.

      @@lemonsquareFPV If you think analog will stay around for ten years when we have multiple digital options, you're in for a rude awakening! The poorer people in this hobby won't be able to buy enough analog gear to keep it going... Remember, they're the ones with little to no money. It's all about sales and it still being profitable. You'll be lucky if it's still around in 2-3 years. Just look at all those examples of old tech leaving us! You can't even go to a store and buy something as recent as a DVD or even a Blu-ray! Analog won't live long! 🙄🤷

    • @lemonsquareFPV
      @lemonsquareFPV ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KOrnhOliO1 no rude awakening, it doesn’t influence me at all honestly (my light weight builds will gain 5 grams on average) and in the future that may not even be the case. I like the light weight but won’t cry about it, and video will be better… would be a shame for a lot of the people though.
      Your technology analogies are flawed though (even though I would of loved if you were right)… this is a very different situation, mainstream digital became cheaper than analog, that’s why it prevailed (price is ALWAYS why).
      I’m honestly just looking at sales numbers, analog cameras/VTXs still outsell all digital options at 5:1 - 10:1 depending on the wholesaler. Sales have actually increased over the last 5 years, but I think that’s because FPV is more accessible now, and nothing more. Ask Caddx (analog:digital cameras), or any of the FPV wholesalers in China.
      Trust me, no one wants to keep making analog stuff, they just do it because of the demand.
      If digital FPV can become cheaper than analog, then analog will die (immediately), and that honestly would be cool! I actually think that with more digital competition the price of digital has the potential of being cheaper than analog… with time. Then and only then will there be no reason to continue with analog. Price is always the market driver.

    I like Them a bit heavier like whoops(76mm and up) avg 10gms heavier to fling it farther as long as recovery doesn't suffer much in freestyle. Just remember the acrobrat days those were the best in 3inch, armatan jalapaturas,and those kingkong et100 -150. I still have them because of durability. My 5inch setups are collecting dust because of the indoors flying i've been doing at the G.H. with the kids. My latest contraption is a ebike 26inch with dual 1500w motors and building a 48v 60ah battery.
    Now a days it's all about that 247gm mark in 3 inch all in weights. Us old guys don't have the reflex like we used to. Let me know if you want to send you some $ to do that again.
