    This is a great vid and the timing could not have been any better. I'm building a martha tent to keep my new "whiskey" operation separate from the "beer" operation I already have going if you catch my drift. Nudge nudge wink wink. Thank you so much for the little goodie I got in the mail the other day! You truly are a gentlemen and a scholar. Keep on keepin' on Homie. Peace

    One suggested tweak to your Martha: decrease the length of the long piece of PVC so the slope of the pipe going into the tent goes up (yours goes down). This way condensation will drip back into the humidifier instead of dripping in the tent, potentially on a poor, unsuspecting fruiting body.

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Yea good point, I had actually thought about that, but I also don't really want water running back into the humidifier, I was thinking that might cause contamination to grow in the humidifier or in the pipe. You can just place a shallow tray or cup right under the end of the pipe to catch any drippings, I've also tried just placing the grow trays such that they don't get direct water dripped on them from the pipe, the drips go right to the bottom and wash out the tub under the greenhouse so its a self cleaning environment ;) I'm really not sure which method is superior, maybe it depends on what is under your greenhouse.

      I know that is an option, but I thought it was not all that useful honestly but I can see the case for it.

  • @TheTubejunky
    @TheTubejunky ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've done this and found it to be overkill.
    First with a mini tub automated then the Martha.
    Both worked extremely well (for a time) but was not needed. The larger one (Martha) had it's own dedicated water line with a float valve for easy refills. That in the end proved to be the bane of this design.
    The water source WILL sooner or later become contaminated and spread it through the grow area. UVC/Ozone/ even H₂O₂ (Hydrogen Peroxide 3%) could have been used to stop SOME of the "contams" but they will always find a hidden location in the setup to germinate in that isn't sterile.
    It's fun to do but in the end was too much to clean for me when the inevitable happens.
    I don't discourage anyone trying it out as it is extremely fun to build and will work very well for a given time. Just be warned of the extreme cleaning needed if and when it gets the "ICK". Mush love Friends Stay Fruitful!

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea its actually easier to grow them in open air (no greenhouse) but some people don't have the right space for that or want to contain the humidity a little more tightly. You can wipe down the insides of the tent with disinfecting wipes (I also spray the wipes with dilute bleach). If it gets bad enough you can also buy a replacement tent cover, they are only $13 on Amazon. I think its not too bad to clean it though, just takes some extra time and effort.

    Gordo, I have a suggestion for a video idea. I haven't seen any videos of which mushrooms that are used to make things and how to grow them. Like how Paul Stamets has that hat made of a rare mushroom he wears or the types of mushrooms that are being used to build stuff with to replace plastic. I'm sure doing these at home would be more novelty than practical, but interesting nonetheless.
    Don't know if you know anything about that area of mycology or have any experience, but you'd be the first on youtube to my knowledge at least to talk about those mushrooms that have other purposes than eating.

While I'm waiting for everything to arrive I was curious what measurements that piping going from the humidifier to to the tent is for the two sections ? Going to try to pick that up some time this week. Thank you!!!

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you will probably want to figure out exactly where you plan to put the humidifier and how tall it is then measure out the exact distances you will need for the pvc piping. My humidifier is up off the ground, and up pipe length is less than 3 feet.

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think the plastic cover type matters, but clear is probably idea for lighting purposes. You can wipe down the tent walls with disinfecting wipes and/or dillute bleach water, that will keep them clean. If it ever gets too bad, you can buy replacement plastic covers for pretty cheap, this one is $14 and it was a perfect fit for me: amzn.to/3A9YtPW (this is the actual cover shown in the video)

    Nice video, but I have questions, It would be interesting to filter the air of the cooler to not contaminate the mushrooms?
    and, another cooler at the bottom to remove the co2?

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Grow rooms are never sterile so its kind of futile to filter the air, although you could do it if you really wanted to. Contams will get in there every time you open the door. If you are running a HEPA filter 24/7 it will have to be changed at regular intervals and high humidity probably isn't great for it either. I never put fans at the bottom because that stirs up all the contamination that is on the floor, which is 99% of the contamination in any given room.

      It prefer to pulse it on an interval, you can get a cheap timer outlet on Amazon for under $10 that works with an app on your phone or using Alexa, Google, etc. It depends on the species, but 20-30 minutes humidification (heavy fog) every 2 hours is enough for most. • @gordotek
      @gordotek  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it needs a casing layer, and it needs a LOT of air flow, it will not likely fruit inside of a bag but if you cut the top off of the bag and stick it in a humid environment and/or spray the casing with water 3+ times a day you should have success. See my written TEK for more details including how to make the casing layer.

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Different species have different watering/humidity requirements. For pans you pretty much need direct daily watering and tons of fresh air exchange. When growing in a tote with a lid on, the water can't really escape so you don't need as much watering. That said pans can also be grown in an unmodified tote with no humidifier.

      Grow rooms are not sterile, even the big commercial mushroom growers do not grow in sterile environments, so yes, contams will be falling on your grow surface, but this doesn't (usually) matter, as your grain spawn has already fully colonized the substrate and doesn't give contams a chance to get a foothold.

      Dangerous in what way? It's plugged into a GFCI outlet, but when it kicks on it evaporates any moisture around it. I'm actually impressed by how well that little heater has held up, not even rusted after a year in that humid environment. It also has a shutoff switch if it falls over.

      @@gordotek in the same way it is dangerous to put a blow dryer inside of a bathtub, the high humidity can cause an electrical discharge and set your house on fire. Although you can do a google search yourself, high humidity are not the best for electronics unless they're specifically made to be waterproof.

    Hi, what about at summer?
    what could I do to lower the temp?

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can grow species that don't mind high temperatures, or you will have to cool the tent or the room the tent is in or the whole house. Pan cyan will tolerate up to the high 80s F (31C).

    You had some very good information, but I broke my TV trying to stand it on it's side to view your video! Turn your phone horizontal, guy, PLEASE!

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was experimenting with vertical format for short vids only because its the only way to get into TH-cam shorts and TikTok and most people view on phones these days, but I agree with you that I don't like vertical format even myself and wish people would just turn their phone sideways/wide to view stuff, haha.

    Letting prints sit in your greenhouse in open air like that is asking for alot of time trying to isolate away from contams. Only print with a flood hood

      They are not in open air, they are in a closed container. But that said, I only do that in winter, printing works best with warmer temps. However in the Summer or anytime the house is sufficiently warm, I just keep them in any safe warm location, and not in the grow area. I have not had any issues of cross contamination.

    Someone told me it is better to have a HEPA filter up top and fan blowing out from the bottom idk which to do!

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  ปีที่แล้ว

      A small fan won't be able to pull air through a true HEPA filter like that, and you don't really want to stir up air at the bottom either, that's where all the contamination in a room is. But yes people use all different configurations, to each his own I suppose.

    this set up will push spores out of the tent and into the environment with no filter. bad for your health.

    • @VanB
      @VanB 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You should be pulling them before the spores drop 😂😂

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should harvest before spore drop, but regardless, no setup will keep spores completely contained, most of them will drop to the bottom, if you want you can put a basin of water at the bottom to catch most spores, you can use a shallow pan thing sold at big box hardware stores designed to go under a water heater. You can also put the martha in a bathtub if you have a spare one, than all you have to do is turn the water on to wash away the spore droppings. Using a filter isn't going to work, it will just clog with spores and then the airflow will be cut off.
