Another Excellent and VALUABLE video, Scott! You have found yet another way to save my bacon! If I had known this much about Gmail search earlier I'd probably be a couple of years younger . . .

Scott, FANTASIC video! Thank you for including the webpage to the Gmail Search Operators. What a life saver it is. I have a QUESTION: It's label related with filters. If I have a filter that puts items in the label "RECEIPTS," if I delete the label, will it automatically delete the associated filter? Second QUESTION: Label related - If I want to delete a label but not the emails in the Label folder, how would I do that and where do they go? Do they return to the Inbox (gasp!) or get archived somehow? You're the best at presenting How To's - Thank you for doing what you do!

I already knew these search functions, so this video was not helpful to me. What I am looking for are specific strategies for using text filters so that I can make sure that specific text is included. I use quotes for this but I need more options. For instance, if I type "sequence of operations" in quotes in my search, it returns emails that contain any of those words and not that exact phrase I'm looking for.

Exactly my problem also ! I've tried several approaches - not satisfactory so far. Interesting that various experiments yielded different results. Makes me wonder at the logic engine in gmail. If you find the answer please add a note. I'll check back.

Nicely done - Why is there no RUN FILTER - or APPLY Filter ?
My search works very poorly . First it sems to add a SPACE to the end of what I type ?? wha ?
ANd i can type "Bank of" receiving no results. But I type "Bank of Amer" and I get results im looking for. This works like to search / filter I have ever seen or designed.

Thanks for the info. My issue is that the search mail isn't even working. I get something totally unrelated that pops up when I'm trying to search for an email....do you know what I can do to remedy this?

Very useful. I've used search, but not rules - common in Outlook - and I also used different heat colours in the subject so messages from my boss were in yellow, his boss in orange and the chief of division in red.
One confusion when using dates: before:2015 is unambiguous before:01/08/2015 finds all the emails before Jan 8th 2015 but they show up with dates 07/01/2015 and earlier. Is there a way to force Gmail to be consistent and use our country's date format everywhere?
Better still, to allow or need dates to be spelled out viz: before:07/jan/2015 or jan/07/2015

    • @Simpletivity
      @Simpletivity  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

You're right, there can be confusion with dates in Gmail's advanced search. Here's why and what you can do:
      The Issue:
Gmail interprets dates based on American format (MM/DD/YYYY).
So, "before:01/08/2015" searches for emails before January 8th, 2015.
However, retrieved emails might display dates in your preferred format (e.g., DD/MM/YYYY), causing the "07/01/2015" confusion.
      Solution: Use YYYY/MM/DD format.
This is the most consistent approach across platforms.
Search like: before:2015/01/08 for emails before January 8th, 2015 (regardless of display format).

How do I use the Search Operator to find an email that has a specific word and does not include any others. For instance, I want to find emails that have the word MATRIX, but, when I search that word, it also populates emails (and yellow highlights) words like "OR", "CONTAINS", "OF".

    Doesn't help
Example: I typed "intermountain gas" in search bar to retrieve any email from intermountain gas and I get nothing. If I go to deleted items there is clearly multiple emails from intermountain gas. I'm using the app on a Droid tablet with no filters. Shouldn't any email with those key words show up? What am I missing? Very pissed!

Gmail is so annoying.. it will pull words from your search such as ... Ive been trying to find a UPS email.. but it also filters every email with UP in it.. or just an U in the sentence.. WHY ? Why would anyone ever want this to be a feature? Makes NO sense at all
