    I purchased this (moving from the AD200) immediately when it came out. I have absolutely no regrets. I use it on 90% of my shoots and it's in my backpack all the time. The battery lasts more than 300+ (IMO); I've actually used it for (est) double that. It's now a great deal on sale.

      It's been my experience that you get a lot more flashes out of them, too - but that rating is 320 full power pops, which mine rarely are.

    I can fit 0ne AD300PRO and one AD200PRO in my camera bag with one A7M3 body and 3 prime lenses. Used AD300PRO with S2 adapter and 105cm Neewer hexadecagonal softbox outdoors (shaded woods) and at 1/8 power I was able to use it in non-HSS at 1/250 shutter sync speed and still get 1/2500 t.1 flash durations to freeze jumping kids mid-air.

    Thanks for this great review. I am looking for a smaller light to match with what will likely be a couple of AD 600 Pro's (for various purposes).
    I was leaning towards the AD200 Pro and have struggled to find a really good practical review, but you've nailed it. I have some Elinchrom gear I would like to continue to use and found that with the AD400 Pro adapter I can then use a converter.

    One thing I don't see addressed in reviews of the AD line is that they can be radio triggered by Godox on-camera units like a TT350, TT860, etc. No control, but if triggering is all you need...

    Thanks for your review. I agree with most of what you're saying but do have 2 additions:
    1) You mentioned using the Canon R5. I do too and ran into a problem when trying to use both TTL and Hispeed sync at the same time. Godox can't handle this combination (Canon R series, TTL, Hispeed Sync, triggered by a XproC). The flash does not produce a pre-flash (which should measure the light situation) and consequently fires at full power). Godox knows about it, tried to fix it but apparently gave up (no more response from support on that matter). Every other combination works fine.
    2) the screw that is supposed to hold the angle of the flash in place cannot be tightened enough if the flash holds a heavier godox modifier (like a 90cm octa with grid)

  • @Neukita1
    @Neukita1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi Dustin, got a question. For the outdoor family shots, were you using any modifier or just the AD300 with the included reflector? Also, were they composite shots where you had the flash in the frame and then you remove it since you were shooting on a tripod?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No modifier outside out of the reflector, and the images are basically unedited

    Hello Dustin! Very explicit review as always! Can you please tell me if I will be able to use the charger, of course with the appropriate adapter, to charge the battery for this flash in Europe ? I was not able to find this information anywhere! Thank you for your response!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      Unfortunately I don't have that answer. I suspect if you buy the flash in Europe, it should come with a European market plug, but I don't know that for certain.

    Hi Dustin. I've just sold my Profoto B10 and about to buy AD300. Probably 2x and perhaps 3x. So thank you for your video and pointers. Regarding your lovely family shots by the lake - I guess you need a fair amount of light for 5 subjects. So did you use 1 AD300? Or more? And what light modifiers did you use and where did you position them? I'm simply trying to gauge what I'd need to take portrait shots of groups both indoors and outdoors.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used one AD300 and modified it with a simple, inexpensive modifier I often use for its effectiveness and portability. (bit.ly/scoop3DA)

    when the Ad200 original came out I immediately bought it and still not regret it...but ever since the AD300pro came out...I cant decide on should I get two Ad300 or one more AD200 Pro....the AD300pros glass dome reminds me of broncolor and I guessing the quality of light is completely different from the AD200 bare bulb

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do suspect the quality of the light is slightly better, but the AD200 is attractive for other reasons (the footprint of it, for one!)

    I've only had my camera for a year and am new to the world of photography. I just bought a Godox V860iii last weekend, with the intention of using it off camera. I had also purchased the Xpro trigger unit, but returned it when I read about the Adorama exclusive Xpro 2 under their Flashpoint brand which adds some more features and has the better mounting system for the same price as the original Xpro. The problem is that's on backorder so I don't know when I'll be seeing it so this may make me buy a second flash unit faster than I had originally intended so I can use the 860 as the trigger unit. After your review the Godox AD300 seems like the best choice for my second flash purchase which will probably my main light, and I'll use the 860 as fill whenever the Xpro2 comes in stock. After all that, my question is what would be the best way to implement an off camera flash, if I'm also using an on camera flash?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the V860III as both your on-camera flash and trigger for the AD300 at the same time.

    • @TheGeocab
      @TheGeocab 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DustinAbbottTWI What I mean is, since an on camera flash is typically considered not so desirable, and since I would be using the 860 as the trigger by being mounted on the camera, what would be a good way to mitigate the less desirable results of the on camera flash. Is there a good way to creatively use the on camera flash to add to the off camera flash? I'm picturing more outdoorsy situations. Indoors, I'm guessing I can use a wall or ceiling for bounce so as to not be a straight on flash effect. I'm just getting started into this so I apologize if I'm not illustrating my thoughts properly.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      I'm still not 100% sure I understand the question, but one good and simple tool that I regularly use in that situation is this one: th-cam.com/video/LOyj27eQojI/w-d-xo.html

      The ad300 Pro is 5 times more powerful than the two you have mentioned. It is better built than the Yongun by far and less temperamental than the Canon. I had them both before. I have now used the Godox system for a couple of years now, and I can tell you they are fantastic. I have two ad200 and two ad600 pro. I used them for all sort of shoot.
