Imagine being a super-skilled spy, not picking up that the woman your with is an assassin, that you're both dense as a brick, and you're getting wingmanned by your daughter who can literally read yours and her minds.

Took me a bit to realize that she's only good at cleaning because she has to clean up her assassinations. Also, actually the most badass proposal of all time
In the manga she said ‘cleaning house’ which meant killing people which I thought was a bit more badass line but this one is still good
Also assassins are sometimes straight up just referred to as "Cleaners", especially ones affiliated with an organization so I didn't even make the connection that she's good at the actual task of cleaning because of that, I thought she was just referencing the usual name lol.
Could be real cleaning though. She had to take care of her brother alone.
Yeah. I also thought yor is kind of organized person because I noticed (Warning: a little spoiler) she hide her box inside her weapons very well done and I was so amazed at her but anya finds out by reading her mind while she's just holding yor's box and loid didn't know though. I mean yor's box looks so small cause anya doesn't look like she have hard time to carry her box.

That "I'm being sold off..." Line had me legit dead in how innocent the delivery was, unbelievably funny!
She switched 4 families and changed up to 3 orphanages, let's say if a family return her, they most likely return her to the old orphanage, not a new one, it's a possibility that she was actually involved in one of those selling kids family or orphanage, her third orphanage is very bad, but there might be worse orphanages out there in the show universe, Loid wondered "where did she learn that stuff?", it's one way to address the world they are living in is fucked up, but it's not a confirmation of Anya 's past as well as it being pass as a joke, I think it was a very intentional joke.
Also, Anya's able to send out the twilight code that taunted the enemies is probably a combination of innocence and her tv show most likely, she was watching spy war, and movies sometimes do corny stuff like that especially cartoons in the 60-80s. And they cannot send texts to each other because just look at their cars, I am pretty sure they are decades away from the oldest mobile phone. Also, the whole marriage and spy things are references to outdated social norms and the report program in the cold war and war era. Basically anyone can report other for being suspicious. It sounds dumb and stupid but it actually existed.
The only nick picking thing is that both of them never pick up any clue, especially Loid considering he is very smart but then again, this is a gag comedy show, we just roll along, no need to overused logic on certain parts.

During the previous scene which Franklin was asking Twilight about why he couldn't find a female agent to play wife role, there was a line about "People getting sold out" which Anya probably heard and misinterpreted.

Just to point out, Loid/Twilight is a spy from a different country. One that Yor's country is in a Cold War with. Yor just was sent to kill someone for being a traitor. So they really can't work together, at least at this point.
Also, don't forget that Yor is gullible, according to her brother. Also, when her coworker suggested putting boogers in the chief's coffee, Yor asked if that would make it taste better, somehow. Yor is a very innocent and trusting soul, in spite of being an assassin.
They sort of can to the extent that, despite working for opposing countries, the goal of both of their organizations is to maintain the current peace. Obviously there are things that would need to be worked through though.

Tatsuya Endo, the author of Spy x family, apparently had a dream of making a famous manga when he was a kid. From what I heard his first submission to shonen Jump was when he was in highschool. Over the years he was unheard of but worked on some very very interesting series. He also had chances to work with Tatsuki Fujimoto, the author of Chainsaw Man and with the author of Hell's Paradise. When he submitted Spy x Family it blew up spectacularly even he was impressed. I'm so happy to see his work get animated. His dream actually came true. Here's to future success to Tatsuya Endo Sensei.

he kept getting blown off by publishers because his stories were too dark, it's fujimoto and shihei lin that pushed him to write a more light earthed story.

The conversation with the girls at the start of the episode hits more when you realize they live in a society where it was normal to report your neighbors to get them arrested for being agents against the state. The somewhat real undertones under this fluff of Comedy is what makes the show so investing. Like, it seems like such a throwaway conversation, but then she literally is an undercover agent running a double life.

on another note, Loid was actually being sincere when he was defending Yor. He doesn't have the full context of course, but self-sacrifice for the sake of others is something he finds admirable so he actually respects that aspect of Yor.

My favorite thing about this episode is, when were first introduced to Yor, her coworkers are talking about a woman who was reported for being suspicious and arrested, the coworker implies that the reason is because shes in her late 20s and single. But when Twilight and Franky are discussing how he's going to find a wife, Franky asks why he doesn't just get a female agent and Twilight says with all the spy hunts going on lately there aren't many available. Then when Yor shows up the the party with no boyfriend her coworker mentions reporting her, thinking she's a spy trying to ruin the economy or something like, so the rumor of spy's being arrested is confirmed by Twilight as real and not just made up gossip.
The grenade ring proposal was perhaps one of the dopest things I've ever seen in anime.

SPY×FAMILY takes place in "Berlint," a fictional Soviet-era East Berlin. Loid is from "Westalis" (West Germany) while Yor is from "Ostania" (East Germany). I recommend reading up on the Stasi, the very oppressive State Security Service of East Germany, which was headquartered in East Berlin during that time. The Stasi and their informants were everywhere, spying and informing on everyone, including on their own co-workers, relatives and friends, for merely having the "wrong" interests or views. Hundreds of thousands were arrested as political prisoners. So Loid's comment about it being too risky to use someone from work to act as his wife and Yor's fears that her marital status could drawn suspicion and accusations of spying or subversion are not unrealistic even outside the anime.

So just as you guessed, it doesn't seem they're supposed to know each other's identities. At least for now. Not sure if they do later.
even in the most recent chapter they still dont know about each other's secret lives, not sure if that's a spoiler or not but it is true that they aren't supposed to know each other's identities though I imagine that will change eventually in the future
@@Dell-ol6hb exactly. In case anyone misses it, Yor and Loid works for opposing sides. Both may want to maintain current peace but they stand on different team. Which is bad if both Loid and Yor cover is blown to each other.
This will be the greatest “how I met” and “ how I proposed to your mother” story for Anya in the future

Well Yor's brother Yuri did mention about how gullible she can be. But for both cases I do agree that's their initial thoughts, it's hard to detect another spy and Loid was surprised how silently Yor came from behind but he dismissed it as being too relaxed to sense it.
I like to believe that they are so good at their jobs that it has become a crippling overspecialization. That what they view as normal is frankly anything but.Part of what makes it interesting is them growing

Fun bits of continuity:
- The girls in the scene first introducing Yor and the party discuss files going missing. Those were the files Loid got to look through for wife candidates later on
- Loid says he can't just get with a female agent because a bunch were found out. Meaning the girls that got mentioned earlier as suspiciously single were likely spies of the West.
- Loid works for the Western rival country undercover in the eastern country, while Yor is killing agents from the western country in the eastern country. It's clear the inspiration is West vs. East Germany

I dunno why, but a lot reactors kinda miss that Loid and Yor are on opposite sides of this cold war. Yor is an assassin for Ostania, while Loid is a spy for Westalis. If they ever found out about each other's identity, the relationship would be over.

aside from twilight's pre introduction where the spy agency says they're sending their best agent undercover, you'd have to piece together several clues just to conclude Twilight is for Westalis and Yor is for Ostania. It's almost never mentioned.

They absolutely believe each other's lies. It's part of the series' charm, even if it strains suspension of disbelief sometimes.
The way I understand it, they're both so preoccupied with keeping up their own façades, to which the other person is essential, that they either don't notice or don't question the suspicious bits.
The "being sold" joke is so close to reality.
Yor is extreamly gullible while Loid is too busy not making Yor suspicious of him, that's the whole reason why they've never suspicious of each other lol

The guy who gave Loid the coin with the assignment is the same one that gave him the newspaper last episode. Last episode, he meowed like a cat, so Loid knew it was a C cypher. In this episode, he ribbitted, so Loid thought it was a T cypher for toad but then decided it was a F cypher for frog.
Yor is best mom and that proposal with the grenade pin was so good.
What's amazing about the fact that they don't know each other is it builds up the viewer's anticipation of how they will react when they realize that their occupations involve them working for different countries.

Actually the thing about Yor losing her parents when she was young is true. Remember he read her information when looking for a wife. She took care of her younger brother and became an assassin to do so.

yeah. Also, with the "ribbit" (I'm sure manga readers already know this), I noticed that when someone delivers him info for his next mission they make an animal sound like that to tell him which cypher to use to decode it. The first episode the guy said "meow". Be proud of me, it only took watching it three times to make that connection.

The two of them seem to be so separate from normality that they don't have a metric for social interactions or something. I do hope that the lab Anya escaped comes for her at some time and Mr and Mrs Forger just basically erase them from existence. XD

Loid and Yor actually do believe each other (Sort of). Yor is incredibly gullible and feels there is no reason to doubt Loid. Loid sort of just dismisses all of the sus things Yor does as Yor being Yor, with logic and reasoning are thrown out the window, only getting suspicious later. But Loid pretty quickly dismisses his suspicions of her after investigating.
Just so you know that both Yor and Loid work for enemy countries of each other....The toupe user minister got killed by Yor who was saved by Loid in the previous episode from getting exposed.....
So they basically are mortal enemy of each other
