I was born in Torquay, and spent much of my early life here. Returning, after 40-odd years away earning a living, I've been shocked by how much it has deteriorated. This video really brings it home! Thank you so much for reminding me of what a wonderful place it used to be.....

Lovely compilation, thank you. So sad that some of the old building no longer exist. I was born in Torquay and worked at the West of England newspaper office in the early 70s.

Very well produced and interesting video. Small correction; the "High Street" is actually Fleet Street

    I was born in Torquay,it was a great place in the 70s and 80s,but now it’s a dump,no investment,ran down buildings,drunks and drugs everywhere,corrupt council,it’s such a shame.

At 0:33 - has Fleet Street been renamed ”High Street”? If so, surely ”Fore Street” would be more Devonian? (It's a long time since I visited my home town, but it's good to see your old and new pictures!)

A good example of how things don't always progress. Still Torquay is still a lovely place compared to most of the UK

My Mum worked in the offices of South West Gas, retiring in the mid 1980's. Fleet Street used to be a bustling shopping area, and there was a brilliant fish and chip bar in Swan Street or George Street. All destroyed in the biggest White Elephant ever, grandly named Fleet Walk.

and Bendles print works. BTW, huge fan of the Steam Package Inn when we get back to Torbay for a nostalgic visit. Does a Dart Skipper get as far as Totnes? May get back in 2021 if travel not too much of a PITA.
