- Theres something weird going on with the genius society, well generally most of their members are weird but for some reason someone is killing genius society members. Whats more interesting is the fact that this killer is actually one of their very own members, member #4 Polka Kakamond. Its unclear what her motives are but in this video we'll try to speculate why exactly someone is killing genius society members
Some part of this video comes from the actual lore while others may be speculation on my part as we currently do not know the full story. As such take it with a grain of salt as the point of this video is just a deeper dive into Honkai Star Rail lore.

I think on a narrative level Polka serves to reinforce that the Genius Society is an ethically neutral organization, including malevolent as well as benevolent members (like Aiden). Rubert serves a similar purpose in the story.
That could be possible though we dont really know why shes killing them, it could swing either way atm and she might be doing what shes doing out of pure malevolence or instead some twisted sense of greater good. But it does seem the genius society is a bit more balanced with a mix of both good, neutral and essentially bad people that make up its membership. I suppose intelligence doesnt morally discriminate
@@Maevix3142 At minimum, Polka has been willing to murder on multiple occasions. It's one thing if she did it to stop those who were commiting heinous acts (like Rubert was with his robo-jihad), but doing so to preemptively stop someone who might commit an atrocity in the future is still, at best, morally gray. "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions," and all that.
Polka is one of the most interesting characters of the Society, so far she's killed one member who indirectly caused the birth of Nanook while the other discovered the existence of a material we use to make energy drinks. (At least in game)
I personally leans toward that, she might be killing scientists before they discover something in particular, something she may know about but thinks its best if people remain ignorant of it. This makes me think she'll eventually go after Herta. On that note I wonder if she has some inside help, its kind of strange that Ruan Mei has a secret room within the simulated universe but tells us to keep it a secret from Herta, however its also strange that she helps us get a bunch of blessings rather then hide from us as well. But its just something I've been thinking about.
Perhaps Polka is even a follower of Mythus, it would be a great way to tie them into the overall story.
That interesting, the idea that she might actually be working with others in the society. The phlogiston is also used to make the arm cannon that rubert (the one she was said to kill) himself created when it became sentient, so the idea she is removing 'dangerous' things might still be possible. If she does end up targetting herta, I would love to have that be a story element where were just trying to keep herta alive while running from this serial killer

She's quite the intriguing character! All of her portraits in the universe erased? Genius Society slayer? And her title is the Lord of freaking Silence?
Talk about an imposing aura! Can't wait to meet her... just like Herta.
Would love a story arc around the Genius Society involving Herta (in the flesh), Screwllum and Ruan Mei around the Polka Kakamond mystery.
I think we'll eventually get one once we reach either planet screwllum or Nous' temple, maybe polka ends up being the big bad in that storyline. Lord of the silence is such a badass title though, I really cant wait to learn more about her
The 1st time we learn about her is on tutorial when inspecting her portrait with kafka on the bridge. Also what i find interesting is nous counterpart is aeon of enigmata that actively shroud everything in fog of mystery as opposite of erudition mission. Why did i brought enigmata here? Because polka action is in tune with what enigmata does and posibly polka defect to enigmata. It is just my hypothesis so take it with grain of salt.
Here is the argument that make me think this way:
1. Her action on scrubing all mention and portrait of her face did create a mystery that in line with enigmata goal
2. Her first documented murder did involve the reaffirming of the founding of flogistan making them back into the realm if uncertainty. Which is again the domain of enigmata
To my guess she might be a follower of the Path of Enigma 😉
I believe so, too. Her actions bear a lot of similarities to a History Fictionologist.
Are these the mysterious voices that the guardians where talking to I think she's maybe one of the followers of these aliens I think there probably the fatui of this universe

Who know if the members beings batteries for Nouse theory is correct then maybe she lost belief in the Path of Erudition and start to seek help from the Engigmata and so another war began just like the Xianzou Luofu story quest with Lan vs Yaoshi
I just can't keep thinking about how similar she looks to herta ... Similar hair and clothing colours of purple and black .and the fact that she said she wanted to meet and said ( you and i have a lot to talk about) ... I believe she is her mother and herta wants to know why she did this to the other members... Can't wait
Theres theories going around that Polka is actually Kafka? Though I dont know how good of a guess that is but she might have a connection with herta, maybe a long distant relative or ancestor given she is the 4th member while herta is the 83rd

Maybe she worships the enigma aeon that would explain why she’s getting rid of all her pictures and it would back up the theory about her killing the other society members to make sure they don’t gain knowledge (and maybe why she’s doing this is because she found out the actual meaning of the universe)
My random theory is that she joined the knights of beauty(the worshippers of idrilla, I forget their name). Could explain how she was able to completely remove every portrait of herself from the universe, and maybe they are against Nous or something.
If "removal" is the key word, wouldn't a History Fictionologist make more sense? Given that The Enigmata is directly opposed to The Erudition.

It doesnt seem like theyre trying to or maybe it just hasnt been expanded in the story. Plus im not sure if shes trying to kill all of them or only specific members, maybe those that might threaten the universe or something. Herta seems to really want to meet her though

TL:DR, Polka is fighting against the Enigmata, by embracing the Enigmata … or more specifically, by researching the fields of being enigmatic.
Her name is so … off, Polka Kakamond? I’m under the slight impression that her name might be an anagram for something else.
She hides her face, but not her name, and not her gender nor the general shape of her body, she doesn’t remove the portrait itself, just scratches off a portion instead, she doesn’t appear to care about her reputation, despite making a large show over hiding her facial identity.
As a member of the Genius Society, she must have some inkling towards the Path of Erudition, whether it be following it, or removing it.
I decided to do I bit of a dive into the meaning of Erudition and what a Philosophy of Erudition could possibly be.
Erudition is a collection of knowledge that possesses some level of value.
A Philosophy of Erudition is to embrace ALL collections of knowledge.
(To give a little example to clarify the difference between the two. A Chef would want knowledge that a Chef should need in order to do his job/passion, while the Restaurant will need knowledge of several things, including the knowledge of a Chef, in order to keep the Restaurant from closing down.)
This perfectly explains why Nous made the Genius Society, for a singular person alone cannot express the philosophy of erudition. The Genius Society is living proof of this philosophy. The Intelligencia Guild also expresses this philosophy, but in a more philanthropist method, which can limit the erudition one seeks. After all, does anyone need the erudition of Aeons to live? In a majority of cases, no, so the Intelligencia Guild would show little to no concern over the mysteries of the Aeons, while the Genius Society doesn’t limit its Doors to any field of erudition.
Herta is a shining example of Erudition, no wonder she is an Emanator of Erudition.
So, Polka … what eruditions does she seek out? … perhaps, an erudition of Enigmata? After all, we are expressively told just how dangerous the Path of Enigmata is, so if someone goes out of their way to lessen these damages, they would be attracting a lot of attention, so much attention that Mythus the Enigmata may interfere themselves.
The only question I have now is … if her name is indeed an Anagram, what would the unscrambled version be?
Now that you point it out, the way shes going about it doesnt seem very.. complete. She does seem to obscure her face but not her name, gender or her associations with the genius society. Theres a lot of theories about her now being on the side of enigmata give what she tries to obscure but as you mentioned she doesnt seem to be doing a good job or rather a complete job of obscuring herself.
Erudition is the quality of having great knowledge, if shes is still part of the genius society (since im assuming nous hasnt kicked her out) but displaying actions close to the enigmata, maybe shes just hoarding knowledge. Removing information from the universe but collecting it under her own sphere of control. That would kinda fit both paths ideals in a sense, so maybe shes just playing both sides but to what end we dont really know
There is barely information about Polka Kakamond to even start theorycrafting.
And yet, here we are 😂. But in all honesty there really is very little info, I just found her story interesting and wanted to speculate

Even Nous already know everything about the universe but his follower have a bit misunderstanding, they thought Nous need their help to discover the mytery of the universe but in reality Nous alredy know it all. Yet Nous never say anything about it
That is because one of the CORE mentality of Erudition is about selfishness. All Genius Society member except 1 person is all realy selfish and never uncover their own project. Just look at Herta Space Station that basically just a trash bin from her

Enigmata sounds interesting, maybe she switched sides and feels not everything should be known. Now that i think about it maybe shes working with the balance path (dont recall the name atm) and is just ofsetting the societies activities
