  • Have you ever wondered why Blade is hunting Dan Heng? Why Jing Yuan had to fight Jing Liu? And who the three out of five people are who have to pay the price for some unknown crime?
Well I SURE DID! So I did some investigating into the history of the High Cloud Quintet's members and... let's just say that what I found blew my mind.

I also think that Jingliu is the one responsible for Blade's desire for revenge, considering his whole mentality of being a weapon comes from her (she was the first person to call him "blade"). 📚🧐 *Lore - Jingliu x Blade Theory:* The passage from Passerby's Roaming Dragon Bracer that speaks of 3 people (spear weilder, unnamed, & beloved) and how they were thrown into an abyss of eternal hatred & remorse. The *"eternal"* part is likely suggesting that the 3 individuals are currently immortal. The *hatred and remorse* signifies the current relationship between all 3 characters.
There's *3 sinners:* Dan Feng, Blade, and Jingliu.
The Passerby's Roaming Dragon Bracer passage has *3 roles:* Dan Feng (spear weilder), Blade (unnamed), and ??? (Beloved).
There's a chance that the Passerby's Roaming Dragon Bracer passage is the origin story of the 3 sinners.
*"However, in the end, it was also this person* (referring to the spear weilder a.k.a. Dan Feng) ...
*who stubbornly adhered to their plans with the unnamed* (unnamed is referring to someone who worked together with Dan Feng on the immortality research (a.k.a. Blade))...,
*turned the beloved* (a 3rd person in this scenario) *into a monstrosity,*
*and pushed all* (meaning all 3: Dan Feng, Blade, and beloved) *into an abyss of eternal hatred and remorse."*
From this passage, we can see there are 3 people involved: a spear weilder (Dan Feng), the unnamed (Blade), and the beloved (???).
It says that Dan Feng stubbornly followed the plans that he had with the unnamed. We can assume the unnamed is Blade as the 2 of them did work together to research immortality. We also know that Blade wanted to back out, but Dan Feng proceeded with the plans anyway.
This leaves the 3rd person, the Beloved.
Beloved was turned into a monstrosity.
Jingliu was mara-struck, lost her mind, andshe became the monster that she taught Jing Yuan to slay. Jing Yuan took on the role of slaying her.
Taking this into account, if we assume that the 3 individuals from the Passerby's Roaming Dragon Bracer passage is referring to the 3 sinners, the 3rd sinner and beloved that was turned into a monstrosity would be Jingliu.
      -
      Other info to be considered:
Blade's shard sword was a weapon he created himself. He gifted it to Jingliu before she was mara-struck, back when she was leader of the Quintet. He now weilds it himself.
In his idle animation, he can be seen hugging the sword. There's a deep blue sash on it - possibly belonging to Jingliu.
In Blade's PoV story, he shouts at Dan Feng: "The one who buried the beloved - is you!"
People have stated (I haven't seen this myself, so I'm not sure) that there's a statement somewhere that says "beloved and unnamed are engaged".
      -
This is just *a theory* though. Not a guarantee. Just a theory. 😄 Lookin forward to Jingliu in 1.4. Good luck on your pulls everyone!

Bailu is a clone of Baiheng that Dan Feng, with Yingxing(now Blade)’s assistance, created in an attempt to revive her after a terrible battle that she sacrificed herself in. The result of their “great sin”(the edited Transmutation Arcanum) was a dragon abomination that reverted into an egg when it was slain, and when that egg hatched, what came out was…. The tiny dragon girl we all know and love.

There’s a text somewhere (sadly can’t remember where) that also describes the public’s outrage at Jingyuan making Danfeng’s sentence lighter so he wouldn’t suffer as much, as the Ten lords were detaining DF unjustly under the guise of ‘educating him’ as a reborn Vidyadhara. He exiled him so he wouldn’t live a life suffering under the preceptors, which is interesting.

The reason Bailu doesn't dream and age because her connection was disconnected by what Dan Feng did, to make Yingxing immortal. Also a medicinal/alcoholic gourd is a very serpent related item in asia. Since Long, the Aeon of Permanence who created them, doesn't exist anymore, I feel like it's probably impossible to create a new viridhaya.
In the quest where we go into the water city, we see some phantoms of the past. Most of them seem to be depicting DFs life. And one of them is an older girl with a little boy. And they talk about how when she hatches hes going to be high elder. She could be Bai Lus former self. And there are more than just one High Elder. So Bai Lu could just have been another Elder previously.
Oh and the reason why Blade could have had white hair is because by that time, he could have been older. In the story quest, the phantom that is implied to be Yingxing, is described to be ''middle-aged''. It makes sense as Blades Artefact Sets Shoes tell how Yingxing has travelled the worlds quite a bit. The Blade that exists now is supposed to be him at his prime so the colour could have returned. The choice of casting Miki Shinichirou is also strengthening my theory as he is known to be typecasted as older males.

There is a possibility that Baiheng is the bosom friend instead. Because it's said that "In hazy memories of the olden days, he finally made up his mind to gift his bosom friend with his hand-made jade flask, only to realize with a shock that the person he longed for was no longer there."
Baiheng is the only one who died before the HCQ broke up, before Jingliu frantically barged into Scalegorge in search of [her], before the Flash pv, before everything went down to shit. Dan Feng "died" after the sentence was dropped onto him by Jing Yuan, who reincarnated into Dan Heng and it seems that connecting the timeline, Dan Heng is the one who got chained up in the Prison because he said "His sins are not mine!" Or sth like this.
Also, it's implied that Yingxing died after the disastrous event (possibly reviving Baiheng into Bailu), but we'll have to wait for 1.4 to confirm this. There are two things that keeps me in denial when it comes to "bosom friend ≠ baiheng" and "beloved ≠ baiheng"
    1. Honkai team in HI3 doesnt feed the mlm ships as hard as they do wlw ships
    2. Baiheng has been hinted to be the "heart" of the HCQ's bond. Reviving someone into an immortal is a sin according to Xianzhou people, they have been at war with Yaoshi and her believers for so long. I think it's very fitting for Jingliu to be extremely distraughted by YX and DF's desire to revive Baiheng and turn her into immortal, not to mention the whole event ended up in creating a monster out of the "beloved". Yingxing was a very shy, insecure and unconfident kid back then, it was Baiheng who encouraged him and one of the reasons why he rose as Luofu's most legendary craftsman. Dan Feng and Jingliu survived the war because of Baiheng's selfless sacrifice, Dan Feng wished for her to survive and live, so it's really hard to imagine that Beloved IS NOT Baiheng at all. I'm not speaking this as a shipper anti, I'm just speaking as someone who has been following Blade's development since his beta, and I find it easier to accept that Baiheng is indeed the Beloved and the Bosom friend, that one person who loved everyone, loved by everyone...and ultimately...turned that love into an envoy of tragedy.

Ok, had to come back to this video after doing the IL quest because it seems like you called it. So in addition to everything said in this video we have:
Bailu feeling like she was close to Dan Heng in her previous life, either as a FRIEND or a pupil.
Confirmation that Dan Feng was researching a way to allow the Vidyadhara to reproduce.
That the solution he found to the reproduction problem was using other races, in an undisclosed way, to increase the number of Vidyadharas.
And most important, that Bailu is a proof of concept for his research, meaning that either Dang Feng created Bailu from nothing or he made a non-Vidyadhara into Bailou.

There are also Baiheng info in Dan Heng IL profile supporting the idea that he used Baiheng's genetic materials. She sacrificed herself during the Abundance Emanator Shuhu's attack, by running her starskiff into the enemies while holding what sounds like a Stellaron which blown everything up. The only things left of her was some fur and blood drops.

To further explain Ashikai's comment at 04:50 about the oddity in the Chinese version of the flavour text.
Chinese: 腕甲的主人也曾与自己 (推杯换盅) // 望向冷月 // 彼此无言沉默
Rough translation: The owner of the bracer once (exchanged cup) with me // gazed upon the cold moon // both of us, silent and quiet.
In Chinese, the idiom 推杯换盅 (read tui1 bei1 huan4 zhong1) doesn't exist. Instead, it's supposed to be "推杯换盏 (zhan3)". 盏 and 盅 both refers to the same thing, a small cup. Kind of like martini glass, margarita glasses, both can be generally referred to as "a small cup".
For context, the idiom "推杯换盏" is use to describe an action in a very specific scenario. A scenario where it's banquet or a gathering, and nearing the end of the banquet, people push cups into each other's hand to exchange toast. It's a happy kind of event, with close friends and family, nothing to do with romance.
However, this is where the oddity strikes. "换盅" is a custom most Chinese couple goes through on the day of marriage, in one form or another, where both side of the family meet up and the couple will do a toast to their parents and family with a cup of beverage. Could be tea, could be wine, depends. Hence, this "typo" stood out to the Chinese speaking crowd. It really doesn't make sense. Unless we see this as Hoyoverse flexing on their Chinese vocabulary, found a better way to describe the image in their head down to the detail of the cup they are holding since the word "盅" seems like a more generic term.
So for that line, the literal translation can be interpreted as the following:
The owner of the bracer, who once I've exchange toast with, now gazed at the moonlight in silence, together.
With the following line that goes:
In the end, we went on a separate path, turned our beloved into monsters, and pushed everyone into an abyss of hatred and remorse.

This is a very nice video! Really love seeing more people talking about Bailu/Baiheng curious case :D (also that Luka avatar is adorable!)
If I might correct you, ‘bosom friend’ is absolutely not about Dan Feng. It refers to another piece of the Passerby’s relic set - Passerby’s Bottle of Plenty. It was available on beta, when sets had 6 pieces instead of 4. It told us how Yingxing made a white flask for his dear friend, who was ‘fond of going sightseeing among the galaxy, and loved making friends and holding feasts’. Most of the Quintet members never left Luofu other than for war, but Baiheng was a Nameless at some point in her life, which pretty much confirms her outgoing and freedom-loving nature. There is also an emphasis on ‘white’ color of the flask - because it ‘perfectly reflected the name of his friend’ (白 or ‘Bai’ means ‘white’ in CN, and Bailu also has the same character in her name, yes).
Yingxing was shy and felt bashful like a teen every time he wanted to gift the bottle to his friend. But when he mustered the courage - his friend ‘was already gone’.
This piece of set is not in the live game, ‘cause we now have only 4 items for each set, but Hoyo changed the Passerby’s Coat story a bit to refer to it anyway, more subtle this time, but still using the same phrasing from the gone item. Just like Blade’s story 1 refers to another piece from beta - Passerby’s Broken Mirror Armor, which was telling about Jingliu killing Blade over and over again. It’s not like if those pieces of set are not in the game anymore, their lore magically disappeared from existence - it’s still there, just more compiled now.
So, yeah, the bottle has nothing to do with Dan Feng, it’s about Baiheng without any doubt.
The 'marriage' thing is very funny. 推杯换盅 used on the relic is… how would I call it? It’s grammatically wrong here to the point of making no sense. Even regardless of incorrect usage - even if it DID somehow make sense the way it’s written, with the 换盅 used for Yingxing and Dan Feng, it would literally mean that they are referred to in this situation as parents marrying their children off, like for a peace treaty of some kind?? Which… erm… even with the hugest shipping googles in the world on doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
So it’s basically a silly little typo some people went absolutely crazy over, just seeing the word 'marriage' and ignoring everything else (which is especially funny, given that the game has a load of little details hinting at two other members of the Quintet actually being the closest to each other, but that’s another matter).
Without that typo tho what happens in the story is basically Dan Feng and Yingxing toasted for some plan of theirs, setting their mind on realizing it, and right after that everything went to shit with all the destruction and despair.
That’s all there is to it. It doesn’t imply any ‘deep familial bond’ here, it’s just two friends making a bad plan together and witnessing the grim aftermath of the said plan.
And Yingxing was probably the one asking Dan Feng for help in reviving Baiheng, not the other way around - she was Yingxing’s close friend and Dan Feng on top of holding Baiheng in highest regard as a dear friend as well, was just tired of loosing friends to war and the Abundance by then? So it probably didn’t take much for Yingxing to convince Dan Heng to go.
I personally don't believe that it was Dan Feng's doing that turned Blade immortal. De-aging part though? Actually possible. But that perhaps happened some time before the whole Baiheng and Shuhu thing, since there is an echo of Dan Feng who's letting Yingxing to search for some information in Scalegorge Waterscape, because he owed him something. They both sound pretty distant and nonchalant in every language there, so it doubtly happened after they lost Baiheng. So my personal interpretation is that this echo is about Yingxing finding some means to age slower and to make himself younger(not immortal), so he could stay with the Quintet for longer and continue to forge new weapons to battle the Abundance and its denizens. Dan Feng could help him, being indebted to him for something, that's why it actually might have worked - unlike Todd Riordan and his mentor's situation. That's just my little theory but it would explain how Yingxing was actually still around after almost a 100 years.
The theory about Shuhu being sealed in the Arbor is an interesting one for sure, I really like it, tho it's a bit unlikely? Since that time Shuhu was defeated it was on board of another ship, not Luofu, where the Arbor is. The Arbor is important, yes, but it's not the only source of the immortality curse - other ships have their own things, so I doubt they dragged Shuhu all the way from the Yuque. The Arbor was also sealed by Yubie at the time of Shuhu Upheaval period, which happened even before the attack on the Yuque and which made it nigh impossible to seal anyone there. Most likely, as according to Jing Yuan, the Emanators are really hard to kill, Shuhu just came back after some time and went after the Luofu. And that's when The Thing happened.
The Quintet fought Shuhu, Yingxing was cursed by the Abundance, Baiheng died, everything went to shit very quickly.
I think Dan Feng used some forbidden Vidyadhara technique to revive Baiheng and accidentally turned her into a real dragon who went mad and wreaked havoc in Scalegorge Waterscape and sadly had to be put down by Jingliu, who was crying and asking the dragon for forgiveness. There is a story on one of the items in-game about a Vidyadhara healer trying to make his foxian lover immortal via some medicine - she turned into an abomination and forgot him entirely. Also there is some information regarding foxian biology and them being… built different from both short- and long-life species?.. So it could be that foxian biology was incompatible with whatever Dan Feng did, that’s why it went so horribly wrong.
What was left of that Baiheng dragon was buried there and then, after some time reborn into a Vidy egg. Did Yingxing and Dan Feng knew of this incarnation of Baiheng? Probably no. Tbh I don't think even Jingliu knew back then, cause, if I'm not mistaken, her own falling-from-grace happened some time after this whole dragon mess. That's why she went all out on Yingxing/Blade - cause Dan Feng was detained, Jing Yuan wasn't to blame and probably was trying to negotiate with the preceptors and the Ten-Lords Commission for Dan Feng's life at the time, so Yingxing was the only one she could unleash her rage on for loosing Baiheng (for good, as she probably thought at the time). The echo of her in Scalegorge suggests that she went there to see Bailu some time after Dan Feng's death, and she didn't sound very sane there. Probably this, in the moment of great desperation, was the point when she succumbed to mara entirely and left the Luofu. So I suppose both Jingliu and Jing Yuan found out about Bailu much later - hence echo of Jing Yuan visiting the Waterscape and him basically watching over her quietly, because once she was a friend and now she is literally all that's left of his dearest people (two left and forgot a great deal/went mad, the third one is a completely different innocent person with a bunch of memories he doesn't see as his own).
As for the Sedition part, I really think it has something to do with the Arbor. There is an egg in the Waterscape that tells us about a Vidyadhara who's duty was watching over the Arbor and checking on its condition, and in their memory it's said, that that day the Arbor came to life again. It's a very interesting bit, that might imply that either Shuhu or Dan Feng reawakened the Arbor at some point - but for what purpose? It must be some big reason, if it was Dan Feng, 'cause it was implied that the Sedition held great importance for all the Vidyadhara - so it couldn't be just awakening the tree to resurrect someone - otherwise the Vidyadhara guards wouldn't have any reason to protect Dan Feng (and they did so very fiercely). Personally I think that Dan Feng wanted to destroy the Arbor once and for all, so the Abundance had no more reason to attack the Luofu and so they could live their lives peacefully without sacrificing thousands of friends and allies to the neverending war. Sounds a bit too extreme for sure, but according to other eggs and notes, Dan Feng was somehow heavily manipulated by both the Preceptors and other High Elders - so it's not really that impossible if he was in a bad place mentally at the time? Also I can see some of the Vidyadhara actually supporting Dan Feng in that case, a chance to put an end to the war and also regain their own agency and homeland sure doesn't sound too bad, even with some possible catastrofic consequences following. I don't necessarily think that Hoyo will go that way, but it's an interesting thought to entertain nonetheless.

Yeah Ashikai ended up being right. Dan Feng as we now have confirmation, has nothing to do with Blade becoming immortal. Though in hindsight it should have been obvious that Dan Feng didn't revive him because the story never once hinted that he revived Blade, instead connecting Blade to the mara struck. Meanwhile the one that Dan Feng revived was referred to as a woman in his quest.
Though the fact that Blade's lore didn't say that Dan Feng revived him should have been taken as proof that he didn't do it, as there was no reason to keep it a secret if it were true.

  • @salemxr6304
    @salemxr6304 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +32

Danfeng’s sedition could very well just be more dirt and blame thrown onto him from spite and cover up the shady stuff some of the high elders were in on with the Sanctus Medicus. We know at least some Vidyadhara were extremely loyal to Danfeng and his personal guards probably had put up a fight to defend him, providing evidence for a nonexistent sedition.
On the other hand, I do feel like Blade or Jingliu’s “spite” or “revenge” is more of storytelling smoke grenade and the mara amplifying emotions. I am certainly not saying they don’t harbor at least some feelings for what Danfeng did but I’d bet its more of “three of them has to tone for their sins” situation than anything. Blade wishes for his death, Danheng is ambivalent about his past reincarnation and Jingliu’s motives are still very much uncertain. Jingliu does feel a lot like the Fuhua arc in Hi3rd, certainly with somewhat similar motifs. It’ll be very interesting to see how MHY cooks this :>.
Putting all these theories aside...I really just want to appreciate how well written a character Jingyuan has been up till this point. He shares somewhat similar treatment to Zhongli but with some little different motifs. Blade’s voice line about Jingyuan says that he “always understood the price but never did anything”. This really doesn’t do him enough justice of the responsibilities he took up as a cloudknight. Jingyuan’s motif had been central in his animated short “as clouds that covers the heavens will the knights protect the Xianzhou”. In the end, Blade, Danfeng, and Jingliu all choose themselves or at least personal matters, even Jingliu, a sworn cloudknight. In some sense, all five of them are still around, but all but Jingyuan had moved on or are simply not themselves anymore. To think that the best memories Jingyuan had were all of the first decades or so of his life with the quintet, it just becomes so much more depressing watching him converse with Danheng and Blade…and potentially Jingliu in the future…
On a side note, in true MHY writer fashion, Jingyuan’s entire kit and the names are full of reference to classical texts and poetry, and it is ever so more depressing (that makes me like him more) to dig them up. His name itself is a reference, meaning “first sunlight”, which coincides with the name of his ultimate “lightbringer”. The name of his animated short “flash” is a reference to the title of Jingliu in her quintet days “transcendent flash”, signaling him inheriting the sworn oath of a cloudknight. The name of his weapon is a reference to a poem of a famous poet that carried the motif of lamenting the passage of lifetime and longing for a leisure life, a nod to how Jingyuan had originally wanted to become a galaxy ranger.

To avoid the tragic cycle he, Jing Liu and Yanging seem to share. And the reason he brings her gifts and tells her stories is because he fills responsible for her isolation. Molting in Luocha quest is compared closer to deaging and that the soul isn't cleansed. So in a way DH is basically heavily amnesiac DF that lived entirely different life and formed a new identity(though still shares same roots). Likely eventually he'll be merging back into something new now that he's been fully awakened, his story arc just started anyway, not a conclusion when he's a main character.

On Jingliu character card, we see her "pouring one out". For someone who's deceased. I'm also finding leaks about jinglius phone case having a fox (dont know if its true tho). This lore is killing me, I need to know more of their relationship. Saving everything for jingliu now 😂

    @bainbonic 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

So uh, fun fact about your Bailu theory. We now know the name of the Foxian because it's in the credits of the recent Dan Heng/Feng. She's called "Baiheng." You nailed it that bit.
Spoilers ahead for the IL Companion Quest -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
IL Dan confirms that Bailu explicitly gets her healing powers from Dan Feng, and they bring up Dan Feng creating a "draconic abomination" that's quite explicitly stated to have been created from a race other than a vidyadhara, and it's implied that the abomination became Bailu. So you're sounding more and more correct.

I had already learned a lot about the High Cloud Quintet from seeing other people piece these bits together, but I never even thought about Baiheng reincarnating into Bailu! It would even seemingly follow the naming conventions of the High Elder's reincarnations like Dan Feng to Dan Heng.
Excellent video all around, keep up the good work!

This was a nicely put together and detailed theory, and that note about Phantylia potentially being a Heliobi is a great one. Though at 12:50, this operation to seal the Arbor likely had nothing to do with the Dan Feng and the time of the Quintet. It was sealed by Yubie, a High Elder incarnation before Dan Feng's time. I don't know if this was to seal Shuhu either, since the files only stated that it was to seal the Arbor itself because it was still kinda alive after being struck by Lan, growing slowly.

while it might be nice, it might turn casual players off. I was also a bit annoyed that The Trailblazer apparently told the crew about the Stellaron Hunters offscreen, made it a bit confusing when March said the trailblazer used to work with the hunters without the trailblazer having that interaction of screen

    • @whistlegirl5726
      @whistlegirl5726 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I'm afraid they won't do such explanations in the main quest proper :') Jing Yuan provided a somewhat short, relatively easy version of the vidyadhara lore in the main quest, and I've still seen people struggle to get it (and get it right). So as the person above said, it might turn casuals off the game.

    • @numimimi
      @numimimi 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I expect this overall arc to extend for years and current chapter is basically just intro tbh. And probably that's for the best as the game itself still needs to hit its pace, wouldn't want more 1.2 rushing. Meanwhile hopefully slow build up while we visit other alliance ships. So good chance it all will be revealed fully in game but will take good amount of time so info sinks in for casuals.

You have absolutely no idea how happy I'm that you also play Honkai Star Rail, otherwise all of those theories, god dammit. I can't, You are so right with this line of 5 people 3 must pay a price. It never fit Blade and I always had a problem with this line, but it fits JIngliu, also in Blade story there is this line, oh god. And we already saw in a stream that Bailu will show up in Dan companion quest in 1.3! God, I can't wait
