      Yeah, they are both friends but also act as a rival. In the interview, Kishimoto is jealous of the one-piece because Oda creates a mascot character like Chopper, but he can't. In volume 49, he tried to draw a pink salamander on the cover as a mascot, but it didn't work. However, Oda is also jealous of Naruto since Naruto is a huge success in the west more than Onepiece. i love Boruto as an idea, but youre right in the fact that it dosent feel the same, I think that it also tries really hard to cater to younger audiences, as naruto did when we were all younger and just discovering it.

      @verx3900 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      i 100% agree with you. imo one of the biggest issues with the world of Boruto, and one that scandalizes many Naruto fans, is the sudden jump in technological/economical/cultural advancement. In actuality, it makes sense that after nearly 15 years of peace and prosperity, as well as great leaders governing the nations, the shinobi world would face such progress, however, the lack of a transition throws many viewers/readers off. personally i quite enjoy the new look even though the manga doesn't really explore it much and the anime usually lacks the budget to deliver it properly.

    • @Lee-km7qq
      @Lee-km7qq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Boruto isn't meant to feel the same. It's meant to feel like the changing of the age, "science vs tradition". There may also be a bit of Kishimoto's love for sci-fi involved as well.

      @@Lee-km7qq the "science vs tradition" part is actually intriguing. But imo they went too far by bringing (spoilers) androids into the mix. The plot's heavy reliance on ohtsutsuki is also infuriating because they abuse the jutsu absorbing technique way too much. Making every character except Naruto, Sasuke, Boruto, and Kawaki doesn't feel as relevant. Exploring the Naruto world and countries and showing their own unique science/technological advancement would be a much more interesting story than aliens and androids.

    If I am correct, Kishimoto did say to Ikemoto to not copy and paste his style, but rather make his own...
    Which is definitely the best thing for any artist.
    And I say it has worked pretty well, because as years went by, not only Ikemoto's style has quickly improved, but more people have then come to say that the characters he designed first, like Delta, Koji and Isshiki, look the best when drawn with his style, rather than the anime's, which has sticked to the same style as in the past, which is closer to Kishimoto, and is less detailed.
    Nowadays, I think that the real debates about Ikemoto's drawings, are about his fighting coreography, not the overall art itself... that's surely a big improvement.

      Here for them Ikemoto appreciation corner 🙌
      His choreos are definitely the one that's under most criticism, but nothing that can't be fixed with time! No artist remain stagnant unless they choose to. No one can also deny he's a goat at character designing (I'm still sad they took Sarada's asymmetrical gloves and Inojin's overalls, so now they've become even more of a clone of their parents but I'm now looking forward to the timeskip! Where less people are bound to criticize the sexualization of their designs - unless it's too inappropriate). Speaking of, have you seen that one cover that features 16 y/o Sarada and Chocho??! Absolute LOVE. The designs of their outfits and the _heels_ omg. Ok I'm fangirling a bit (I just love seeing characters in heels that aren't always mean girls or sexy evil ladies) but I can't help appreciating good designs on anything.

    I think the abrupt transition from Naruto, with heavily folklore inspired imagery, to Boruto almost bordering on being a sci-fi at times is actually really interesting and also keeps in line with he franchises theme of being "very Japanese". It's just weighed down by sadly being a mainstream shonen that needs to deliver a well-packaged status quo rather than being able to exist as a thoughtful allegory. But then, would it have made it as far as it did if it were able to express itself so artistically?

    This is my defence of Sasuke: I think Sasuke is a strong aspect of the series. And I think many people read some of his acts wrong. He DOES like Naruto and Sakura. Who showed up in Sasuke's mind after Kakashi told him that they both found people that they care about? When Sasuke starts caring about Taka while fighting Killerbee... the image of which other team shows up in his mind? Exactly. That's why he tried to leave the village in the middle of the night without them knowing. If he had really planned to murder Naruto, then why leave Konoha first? He could have simply visited Naruto, waited until the knuckelhead turned his back and just stabbed him or something. But he wants Naruto to stay alive and fulfil his dream (he even says so, kinda, when they meet in Orochimaru's hideout). And even when they fight in the valley of the end (and let's remember that the curse mark is obviously having a strong influence on Sasuke's hate and pain, like a drug) he still tries to talk Naruto out of a fight. Why do that if he DOES want to kill Naruto?
    Yes, he does it in a rude manner, but only because it would (1) be more painful to have a friendly and kind conversation - and (2) he knows that Naruto can't be on this mission all alone (I mean, why else should the sound Ninja be missing?).
    And it is only when Naruto refuses to leave that Sasuke tries to swallow down his feelings and get the "Job done". And yet, he can't bring himself to really kill his comrade. In his eyes the hidden leaf failed to kill his brother - or at least put him in prison. Hell, even the anime seem to suggest that the leaf didn't exactly do all that much to hunt Itachi. One might say that's because the hokage knew Itachi wasn't quite the psychopath who he was presented as, yet that doesn't work as an excuse since they had to present him as purely evil and apprently didn't go further then telling their ninja to bring him down if they happened to run into him? Hell, in the Anime-Version Hiruzen suspends Danzou and threatens to prosecute him... and yet does nothing.
    The third Hokage - in theory the strongest Ninja in the village - was killed by Orochimaru. And Sasuke's Teacher was defeated by Itachi as well. AND Itachi - as he says in Sasuke's presence - is part of an secret, most likely evil Organisation. So time is running out. And did you notice how quickly Orochimaru arrives at the end of Sasukes first Shippuden Fight with Naruto? Doesn't that imply that he was keeping an eye on this confrontation for some time now? And woudn't Sasuke see through that? I think he speculated that Sai would stop his attack.
    He hates Orochimaru (even says so). And I don't think that he ever planned to give that guy his body. But in becoming Orochimaru's apprentice he could do three Things: Keep an eye on that guy. Obtain further strength. Take down another villain on his quest to stop Itachi from cousing more harm. Before the Kage Meeting Sasuke does all he can to never peform an unnecessary kill. Even in the training with Orochimaru. I dare to speculate that Sasuke wanted to murder Itachi in order to prevent people going through the same nightmare as him.
    And once that would have been done, who knows what would have happened? he could have planed to go into exil, find a small village and live a peaceful life as a farmer, guard or something. Or (less likely) return to the leaf and explain himself. He isn't an idiot. He may very well know that Tobi isn't his friend. That he told the truth about Itachi, because he knew that Sasuke could never forget that, live on. So he could use him for his own goals. But the fact remains, that Sasuke DOES now know the truth. And let's not forget that Sasuke is now a Rogue Ninja. And Kakashi clearly states that Rogue Ninjas get killed. Tsunade signaled a big change from previous leadership. She probably knew quite well how Naruto felt, maybe she was able to see through Sasuke's deception towards Orochimaru, hoping he would come back after this, hoping, that Team 7 (similar to her own) coud experience a better ending.
    Remember when Sasuke noticed how Konoha followed him (after he "killed" Orochimaru) and he destroyed Naruto's Shadow Clone? Sasuke doesn't feel worthy of love. So from his positon it makes no sense that Naruto (still) would think of him as a friend. He must think Naruto now (in the best case) only wants to bring him down. And (in the worst case) take revenge himself. It is only after Danzou's death (remember that Sasuke at this point feels like his life is worthless) That Naruto makes clear to Sasuke how his intentions never changed.
    Sasuke wants to believe in Naruto's words. But how could someone love him? And how can he feel that wish? Did he learn nothing? But Sasuke sees no way out. He probably thought the leaf chased after him ever since he left. That they want to kill him and Kakashi is lying. And now that he knows the truth about Itachi (and of course he believes it. To not believe it is to face the fact that HE killed his own brother for literaly nothing - which would be too mutch to shoulder for most adults, let alone a teenager) it gives him something to live for.
    The war against the people he blames for everything. Who (as he believes) want to kill him anyway. And let's not forget: Even with Sasuke helping to end the war and defeat Kaguya, the decision about Sasuke's fate afterwards came out very close - Kakashi literally remarks at the end (again) that Rogue ninja usually get killed. If Sasuke had lost his moral compass completely even before the reveal about Itachi then him killing the samurai wouldn't have been presented as a notable step in his descent into darkness.

      I agree with your points, mate. Sasuke couldn't really bring himself to kill Naruto and like you said he had plenty of chances! His constant boasting that he Can and Will kill Naruto just comes across as convincing himself that he can because he knows he couldn't. At the end of VOTE1 he just walks away saying he won’t be like Itachi, which was probably his moral compass at the time. To not be like Itachi.
      And about the talking, I would add that violence is all they know. Sasuke knows his clan's tradition. His "most precious person" has to die but he doesn't want that and he can't admit it. Just the thought of killing Naruto awakened his third tomoe (I think, I might be misremembering) And even at the very end, the only reach a conclusion when they have blown each other's arm off and has no choice but to Lay There and Talk.
      About Itachi, I'm not really sure what the leaf's relationship with Itachi was. The anime seemed to suggest Itachi was still loyal to the leaf up til the end and that's why pain/obito couldn't invade or something like that. I'm pretty sure the Third knew Itachi did what he had to. But of course the entire village knows he was nukenin, the Third cannot protect him. nor does he need to lol
      I didn't originally think Sasuke wanted to kill Itachi to protect other people. I thought it was purely for revenge. But I remember how in part one Sasuke was so damn worried that Itachi had gone after Naruto. And then Itachi sent him into a coma and that Really changed him. Fucked him up. I truly think he wouldn't have been so eager to go to Orochimaru had he not met Itachi at the inn.
      As for what he would have done after killing Itachi (and not learnt the truth from Tobi) I have never once thought of that. I assume part of him would still be burning and missing despite having avenged his clan and narratively, Naruto would have to help him deal with that.
      And I agree with Tsunade not wanting Sasuke dead. She was really holding out for him but it got out of her control after the Samurai thing. And Sasuke lost grip on everything including his morals when he killed Itachi.
      I legit cannot remember what Konoha's feelings were about Sasuke after he killed Oro lol sorry but I remember Sasuke was really having a major crisis after stabbing Danzou (through Karin rip girl) and Kakashi and Sakura trying and failing to kill him and him trying to kill them probably didn't help.
      Even when Naruto says he UNDERSTANDS what Sasuke and his brother went through, he pulls the old 'you never had a family how would you' card.
      When Naruto offers to bear the burden of his hatred die with him, he accepts but says Naruto will be the only one of them to die. Like fighting Naruto is constantly his anchor even when he's spiraling lol
      And returning to his moral compass, I really wish his actions were not framed by the manga as 'evil' and succumbing to darkness and all that jazz. When there is literally nothing like that placed on the elders and Konoha itself who were the instigators of the massacre lol FMA handled it better by a slight margin because while Scar's actions were framed as 'not good', the genocide itself that drove him to revenge wasn't written off like it was in Naruto.

    • @samlerf
      @samlerf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Nosjjddjjd As for the framing of the situation:
      Naruto is heavily perspective oriented show, as much of the information is conveyed through the biases, feelings, and emotions of each character rather than given as hard, clear facts. This is, in my opinion, what makes Naruto’s writing so ingenious and detailed; it makes for an excellent story and makes nearly all the characters relatable. It’s easy to relate to Naruto’s loneliness and desire to be acknowledged caused by being ostracized by the villagers, Rock Lee’s frustration as he wonders if he’ll ever be able to be as strong as those with special genetic abilities even though he trains far harder, Neji’s bitterness at being forced to serve the head family, Sasuke’s inability to cope with the trauma of his past, Kakashi’s struggle to cope with the loss of his team, Obito’s desire to bring about a better world, Nagato’s ambition to create a shinobi system that is fair, etc. It’s really easy to relate to Naruto’s characters on some level because the series explores each of the character’s backstory and emotions well and in-depth. The characters that don’t get a thorough explanation or a direct, detailed analysis of their feelings tend to be more disliked among the fanbase. Because of this, it can become almost easy at some points to dismiss certain villains’ actions as justified or acceptable because it’s easy to see where they’re coming from, even though they’re obviously horrendous acts of violence or cruelty and should be treated as such.
      Part of the reason I love the franchise so much is because of the subtle, nuanced writing style that is told from the biased perspectives of the characters. It makes it more interesting to shift through the story and find what morals and messages and themes you can pull out of it and think critically for yourself about who is right and who is wrong rather than being fed everything directly (though I do like more direct approaches too). I actually think most fans have an over-simplified view of the series in general.
      I don’t think justifying genocide was what Kishimoto was aiming for in his writing. It was obvious that Danzo was disgustingly evil (the story never tried to pretend otherwise), and Itachi was Danzo’s lackey, which meant he was evil too if people care to make that connection (most fans don’t). I actually think a big part of Kishimoto’s writing style was to show that people aren’t purely good and evil and to promote the importance of empathy. Even the most vile person can have some kind of redeeming trait, and even the kindest and noblest person can have a flaw. At the end of the day, people are human and each has their struggles and challenges, their good points and their bad points, and they have feelings just like we do, and perhaps that is something we should be careful to keep in mind when we are judging others.
      Considering that the two main characters of the series both came to the conclusion that the government is there to protect the people (rather than their culture’s belief that the people are there to protect the government), I believe that Kishimoto was showing that institutional genocide is wrong. Thing is, you aren’t spoon fed that message; you actually have to think about the story and navigate past the characters’ biases to get down to the objective truth of the story. Which some fans do, but a lot of fans don’t. Kishimoto used Naruto as the moral symbol, and since Naruto’s philosophy was that “the Hokage is one who walks ahead so that he doesn’t have to step over anyone in his path”, I believe Kishimoto was championing a message of being considerate towards others and not cutting down others to solve a problem. Even though it may be the most convenient path, it’s not necessarily the right path Judging how Naruto uses friendship and inspirational, empathetic speeches to conquer evil, I’d say that Kishimoto believes that friendship, forgiveness, and understanding are good solutions to evil, whereas force and slaughter only lead to more cruelty. Thus why he presents the cycle of hatred philosophy within the story and why Kishimoto uses so many heroic characters who later became horrible villains due to the cruelty of others. I’d say Kishimoto is championing the idea that kindness begets kindness, and cruelty begets cruelty (thus why Naruto is the main character who prevailed due to his philosophy of friendship, whereas Itachi is a side character who admitted he failed due to his evil acts of mass-murder).

      bro whoever says sasuke hated them.. did they ever watch or read naruto like the reason he wanted to get rid of naruto in first place was bc (he said it himself) naruto is the only light left within his heart he wants to destroy. if he never liked any of them the first thign that popped into his mind wouldn't be the village and his brother when he was uncouncious. you could see the face of shame and guilt he made bc he knew he hurt those that he should've protected instead. we can see him pay back by protecting the village from the outside not being with his family and friends a lot. he literally was just a kid who was traumatized. most of us who are in his place would've kept wishing for revenge but he chose his friends. like come on, remember when they walked pass the naruto bridge and sasuke looked thoughtful. when sai mentioned naruto and sasuke reacted when he didn't before. he had no reason to hate naruto but emphazised with him. saw him as a friend, therefore as a weakness so he thought he should get rid of him, as naruto insisted on getting him back. but i actually do believe in that moment he maybe would've killed him. not bc he wanted to but bc he thinks he has so he can reach his goal. in these times sasuke lost his damn mind. he went though too much.

    Showing perspective like a camera lens, knowledge of anatomy, gestures, use of colors, and messing up the frames when Naruto is angry or when Rock Lee is in drunk mode and in both fights using a gimmick of repeating a punch at different angles of the same take on a single page, with that alone I would say he is one of the best in the industry, for me it's one of the most technical and certainly inspired a lot of the perspective tricks that Boku no Hero uses.
    And if I talk about characters I would say that he is very inspired by the character designs of The Blade of the Immortal, adapting to his style what for me gave that more semi-realistic look to his characters, in addition to his separate arts he has a sublime command of colors, knowing how not to take your attention and you will stay where he wants just leaving some roofs of a certain color.
    He's a great artist in short I don't like all his art, but I love his knowledge of perspective.

    I'm not as invested in Boruto as I was with Naruto (although I do keep up with the manga), but one thing I do like about it is how it captures the feeling of a generational gap.
    It's the kind of thing you see in real life, but most likely from the same perspective as Boruto and his peers. Since most of us grew up with Naruto, we get to experience that gap, but from the older generations and man does it give me a strange feeling of "damn I'm old" even though I'm really not.
