At Naruto gave everyone on his side extra Chakra to buff them because they were out of Chakra. Kakashi was fighting close to Naruto so yeah him and Guy recieved more Chakra than everyone else.
Boruto is where Chakra has no meaning the kids can spam Jutsu with no limits while Sasuke is always out of Chakra and everyone from previous generation have forgotten how to fight.

I agree, most good series has two power systems. One that the 1% has and is often due to luck, bloodline etc (devil fruits, kekkei genkai, cursed technique, Stands). These powers strength can be justified due to the rarity of them. And then the powers which 100% can learn (Haki, Chakra, Cursed energy, Hamon), comparativly this power must be trained, but can eclipse the 1% system with hard work.
      There are of couse exceptions.
Good exception: Hunter x Hunter, where everyone CAN learn nen (100% power system), but only the 1% get really good at it. HxH doesnt need a secondary power system.
Bad exception: My Hero Academia, A power system using the basis of the 1% system where the quirk you get is dependant on luck/at birth but is accesible to (almost) everyone as a 100% system. MHA in my opinion desperatly needs a secondary power system so people not born with a good quirk can still be strong. For example, martial arts or technology. But it seems that wont happen, so imo MHAs power system is pretty bad.

@@FeelixW MHA is supposed to have a secondary power system. It’s called Charles Atlas Superpower. It means a character can train to gain Superman levels of strength and speed. The problem with MHA hardly anyone takes advantage of it. Endeavor’s power is fire and only fire. The strength and toughness he shows is all hard work. Stain’s quirk is just licking blood. It doesn’t affect his speed yet apparently he’s faster than quirks that grant super speed.

Psychic powers are usually tied to physics laws, as they developed in science fiction
A common differentiation is that psychic powers can use, empower, negate, or invert cause and effect in a specific physic law, while magic can break those laws
      E.G.
Psychic: accelerate time to ripen a fruit
Magic: inject vitality on the fruit to ripen it
Psychic: see the future by calculating probability
Magic: see the future by prophecy
Psychic: move an object by injecting kinetic energy on it

I think overpoweredness loses its charm when its reasoning is "power of the main character, or moving plot forward"

Very true!! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! I feel like I always see the "power of the main character" problem in isekai stories. Like the actual plot becomes irrelevant and it becomes a braindead slice of life harem usually. If that's what they wanted to write they didn't need to set it in fantasy world with powers LOL

For some reason I am fine with the fact Sung Jinwoo is strong as hell even though he is really not that different than other manhwa main characters who are more or less broken
Something about Solo Leveling feels acceptable to me, maybe the fact it actually has an ending? Maybe the fact they don't spend 100 chapters talking about a whole load of the most boring arcs that don't really do anything?
      Or maybe the pacing?
I think it may be all of it, specially the pacing, manhwas these days around are boring as hell, they introduce the mc and his overpowered ability, then they start something about family lines or some whole insanely boring nonsense rather than showing more cool action

    • @paulvictor7489
      @paulvictor7489 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

This one continues to feel like a chicken and the egg situation to me.... Are Isekai flooded with dumb OP protagonist, or are seasonal anime just flooded with so many isekais that it just becomes a lot.
Because I think a lot of Isekai MCs are actually pretty well-made and even justified in power or it works for their world... equally though, I think there's just such an abundance of isekai that it's very easy to pick out many generic craps.
Idk if it's the different though to let's say the Shōnen era of the 2010s where every Shounen was more or less the same too. "Kid, insert tragic background, insert special curse/power within, insert power system, insert mentor character, insert plot wist power justification."@@MonitorComics

Honestly, Hunter x Hunter was my favorite in sense of the power system, it was cool seeing the training Gon and Killua went through to achieve nen, and I'm glad they didn't have the power instantly at the start of the anime/manga, and they had to learn it. What hxh did amazingly was the character interactions, how most of the characters we see at the start go out in their seperate ways, and we see them again later on, and I liked the interactions with Gon and Hisoka, how he let Gon go and get stronger so he could fight him later on, while he was getting stronger as well, and the power scaling is well done, yeah it easily has the best power system I know of in anime

    My power system is called
    Aura and Divinity
Aura being the manifestation of obscene human ability meaning physical strength in any aspect or even pushing the spectrum of what a normal human can do. This includes all 5 senses. For example if you base the amount of aura you have in eye sight and leg muscles you can either see further or see on a different wavelength (depending on the amount of aura or control of it) and you’d be able to run faster or jump higher etc again depending on the amount or control of aura. Fully body aura exists which means you can up your physical strength completely but the best use of aura is Mastered aura which includes the 5 senses as well as full body aura so you become a being of immense physical prowess and physical knowledge.
Divinity is the powers that are borrowed from the gods. Too much divinity can kill a being that isn’t classified as a god or divine being. Demi gods can handle more divinity since it is naturally instilled but the more aura you have the more divinity you can handle. Divinity depends on the god you may be in contract with meaning if your goddess was the ice god khione you’d have some control over ice and other abilities the god may have.
Aura and divinity used in tandem and mastery over each could make a human a living catastrophe.
Aura breaking: A cursed move leading directly to death. This bolsters every physical aspect (not the 5 senses tho) to the max in exchange for the burning of the soul. Usually used as a last resort for those making a last stand.

Jujutsu Kaisens power system is my absolute favourite. The idea of domain expansions, barriers, simple domains, reversed cursed energy and reverse techniques!?? I love it!!!
I also love how to become a strong sorcerer, one must have a open mindset, capable of change and adaptability. However, the learning curve of Jujutsu Sorcerers also relies on being able to take risk and not be afraid to put yourself in deathly situations. I absolutely love the idea of a power system that relies on the users mentality. However, we also see that some of the strongest sorcerers are also selfish like what Ryuk was talking about to Yuta after their fight.
Ones own potential is brung out by their mindset, mentality, selfishness or/and willingness to take risk.
That's how you bring out your potential as a jujutsu sorcerer. However, when it comes to actually executing your power in a battle, "the skill of a sorcerer can be judged based on their ability to use prerequisites like hand signs or incantations in order to fully activate their technique"

I always loved Bleach's variety of not only abilities, but the power sources themselves. While all powers stem from spirtual power, each race uses it differently, making it so each race has their own unique magic system.
Soul Reapers focus on soul cultivation to develop their various abilities, chief among them being their Kido spells and Zanpakuto. Hollows essentially focus on body cultivation by eating souls to literally evolve and Quincies focus on energy cultivation so to better absorb and manipulate the spirit particles (reishi) in the air around them.
Then you have hybrids races like Fullbringers, Arrancar and Vizards who combine different aspects of the 3 races in their own ways.
It's so complex yet interwoven that it forms this fascinating and beautiful tapestry of a magic system.

Wow, this was really helpful! I'm currently working on writing my own manga called Arizona, and this really helped me with the power system: Psychic Energy.
Basically, before the events of the story, an organization called the Marble Foundation experimented on young human children in an attempt to create a youth with the power to restore life to the dying Earth. This results in characters with psychic powers.
All people who can harness Psychic Energy have access to basic powers like limited telekinesis and mind reading, which can be trained to become more powerful and gain more powers, like inducing hallucinations or telepathy. However, characters can also gain a new psychic power that manifests through a character's Awakening, which occurs when a character experiences immense mental trauma, the kind that would break most people, and is able to regain composure. These powers can manifest as anything from conjuring fire to duplicating objects.
However, as psychic powers are tied to the character's mind, it also relies heavily on emotional strength and one's ability to remain calm under pressure. A character's Psychic Energy actually gets weaker the more stressed or insecure a character becomes.
I actually took inspiration from Stands in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure when building this. The main characters don't necessarily get stronger throughout the series, as every battle relies on finding creative uses for one's powers and exploiting weaknesses. For example, Phoenix Arizona (the main character) may use his fire powers to create an aura of blistering heat to exhaust an opponent until they collapse, or a character may use telekinesis to set up a trap to distract an opponent, only for them to attack in some completely different and unexpected way! I understand that this power system is by no means perfect, and I am open to suggestions. Either way, I hope that you enjoy seeing what can be done with Psychic Energy when I finally release Arizona!

I would add that you should always try to balance physical prowess and more supernatural powers that encourage out of the box thinking. Let’s take Part 5 of JoJo for example. Giorno’s Gold Experience is a very VERY versatile power but is constantly shown as getting beat when in straight up 1v1 fist fights which forces Giorno to use Gold Experience in creative ways. This parallels the main villain who (slight spoilers btw) has an extremely physically powerful stand with an ability that is strong but extremely simple which we can see as a genuine downside since he gets outsmarted fairly often but he remains as a threat because we see just how strong his stand can be when his opponent fails to strategize effectively or when their strategies just can’t outweigh the sheer amount of force his stand can put out

Another thing I would like to add is that power systems should be related to the themes or plot of the story. Jojo does this very well, like when Koichi gets more acts as the story progresses. Another anime that does this well is Black Clover. The utilization of grimoires allows for a unique magic system, in which training does not effect how much spells you get, only how good they are. New spells are gained by character development. For example, when Gauche starts caring for others. He uses mirror magic, and he could teleport using mirrors, shoot beams of light using mirrors, and clone himself. Once he realized that he needs to work with others, he gains a new spell that is the ability to clone other people. Power systems may be a part of the story, but if they reflect the themes of the story, that makes it even better.

If one day my time comes to create a manga and hope it gets animated,( I have the skills to create a story but I can only draw stickmen) I have created the setting and my power system. Here's how it goes: everyone is normal on planet earth until God decides that humanity should make a new start and wants to make more interesting but he doesn't have anything going on for humans but suddenly he gets the striking idea to transport everyone in a new world exactly like our own while also giving everyone powers but he doesn't know what powers to assign to everyone, so he proceeds to find a good reference for powers that humans could utilize. Thus he sees videogames and decides that they have enough powers for everyone. He chooses a world that was clear of human presence for 25 years leaving everything in state of flora and fauna having covered everything and all metal structures having rust on them. The main cast has a number of interesting abilities with the protagonist having the ability to turn into metal making the user super heavy and insanely durable resisting most attacks from slashes to piercing attacks and kinetic attacks but with a weakness to electricity and magnetism. This ability of his also allows him to expand into a perfect sphere of the same height as himself but that only activates with a certain amount of speed and offers as all powers special "gifts" essentially small perks such as this ability having the sub-abilty infinite stamina giving him well, infinite stamina. He also choses two other abilities to compensate for his poor mobility those being Flash a basic teleportation ability that teleports him around in a 20m radious and Vector Arrows which allows him to place large black arrows on any surface and even below him with those arrows being able to propel anything towards the direction they point at. The thing is both of these abilities come from videogames that need stamina for them to work and that is countered by the metal ability's infinite stamina perk allowing him to spam both powers continuously and he can even put his metal and vector arrows abilities in an interesting combination by basically turning into the metal sphere form and continuously placing two arrows in front of each other basically creating an infinite railway where he can move as a giant metal sphere. Basically he is strong but not the strongest by any means easily falling under the " I'm weak as a protagonist but I can get stronger and I have plot armour" trope. He's teammates include a guy who creates soundwaves with different colours based on different musical instruments and melodies being the flashiest one around (Tengen style) and one of the strongest there are but he is limited because he is not the protagonist. There's his other teammate who has kinetic green flames and utilizes his Taekwondo skills for devastating kicks. Opinions on my power system and world??? Note that this might be something I will be focusing later on my life and I don't want anyone to copy this for their own personal gain. Thanks you.

Imagine a shounen focused on HEMA / historical fencing taking inspiration from three musketeers. The protagonist is blamed by his community for his father's dishonor, and as such embarks on a quest to restore it, with his mastery of destreza serving as the tool. He will face criminals, other diestro, crazed alchemists and occult conspiracies, but at the end of the day he is always just a man with his rapier.

I think what makes nen the truly great power system is the concept of the specialist because it is basically the biggest “have your cake and eat it too”. For those who don’t know nen abilities are divided into 6 distinct types or what they can do/use it for and specialist boils down to any power that doesn’t fit into the other groups. It basically means the author has perfectly found a way to bring in a power that doesn’t align with the power systems rules without it feeling like a cheat or make no sense by giving an internal reason for it. It is honestly one of the smartest choices for a power systems because then they can create any cool or unique power that pops into their head without it breaking the in universe rules

I also wanted to add that One Piece introduces a couple of martial arts that can be used in conjunction with Devil Fruits and Haki, such as: Rokushiki, Fishman Karate, Hasshoken, and all the different sword styles. Martial arts add a lot to both realism and interest, because it makes a lot of sense that in a world where people have super powers, they'd come up with fighting styles to either compensate or enhance their power.

My all time favorite power system in any series is in One Piece. You have devil fruits which can range from being pretty useless (axolotl fruit) to being op. Even then, creativity plays a huge part in the power. Katakuri for example has a pretty mediocre fruit, turning into a rice cake, but his creativity and his Haki make it monstrous. Then you got haki. Haki is accessible to literally anyone but mastering them and making them stronger takes a lot of training and each haki has different ways to train and improve them.

I love Gash Bell's spell system
they have two systems: elements, and spell type:
spells that ends with -ga: beam shaped and has piercing properties
spells that start with Ganzu: rapid small projectiles
spells that start with Shirudo: shield spell
spells that end with -ruku: self-buff spell
every demon has their own element, in the case of the protagonist, lightning
all his versions of the spell type have to do with lightning, with his "ruku" (self buff) letting him move as fast as lightning
everyone's element is different, but sometimes they share spell structure, and even with said similarities, the spell casting effects can end up VERY different
    example:
Gash's Ganzu spell gives him six separate barrels that shoots fat lightning orbs
Wonrei, a demon whose power is melee combat, his Ganzu spell is making his fists punch so rapidly it can fire off waves from each blow
another demon's ganzu spell is shooting rapidly from one source point
Demons dont always learn all the spell types
and then some demons are better at some than others, and some LIVE by specifically only one spell type too
    example:
Ted only has "-ruku" spells, that means he only has self-buff spells, but he has like 5 versions
the fun part of the manga is to find out how many spell types are the SAME
yet how different and unique they are to to their OWN ELEMENTS.

@@ignited8119 I don't think you've watched a lot of (non-mainstream) anime. Nen is complex for the way it works (different types do different things and you can use them in different ways) but the effects it produces are pretty standards.
Use your nen --> Produce a standard power
      OR
Use your nen with restrictions --> Produce a standard power boosted up in a directly proportional way to the limit you applied.
But, for example, if you produce electricity with nen, it remains electricity even if boosted up.
If you watch some really good power system like A Certain Magical Index, electricity isn't just electricity: if you can calculate more variables, you can use that power in a more precise way.
You can manipulate electricity? Then you can produce a lightning, manipulate electric field (because it's generated by an electric charge), manipulate magnetic field (because it's generated by an electric field), manipulate every kind of magnetic force (attracting every kind of material), use magnetic field on a electrically charged item to produce a Lorentz Force and then a Railgun, manipulate every electrical signal in an electronic device to hack him or every electrical signal produced by each neuron (synapse) in your own brain to resist mental manipulation.
And the fact is that God Speed in Hxh is one of the most complex powers, while Electromaster powers in A Certain Magical Index aren't even so rare.
Vector manipulation is a power that can control every single vector quantity in the universe, so every single physical phenomenon and so a power that can work in billions of different variables.
Dark Matter can produce a substance that doesn't exist in the universe and can have every kind of feature, also characteristics that don't exist in the universe and can't be studied.
HxH is a good power system in mainstream works, but pretty bland if we consider every kind of manga.
You can't compare a manga with limited ways to use a power (HxH) to other works where there are infinite variables only limited by your imagination and calculation ability.

This is a very helpful video, not planning to write any Manga. But the story I am currently brainstorming "Break of Dawn" (the title is still loose) definitely plays on Shonen themes. The general idea being that after centuries of constant warfare with vampires fairies have been dwindled down from a massive 500,000 to approximately only 2,000. In this series farries are not distinguishable from humans in any obvious way, but generally are more athletic, intellectual, and far better off.. The main conflict is that Vampires (still sticking to the original vampire archetype) want to collect enough faerie(intentionally spelled wrong)blood in order gain complete immunity from the sun. The more pure the fairie blood the better. I am still working on in what manner the blood is then utilized to give all vampires complete immunity. Another thing worthy of note I that even an ounce of fairie blood can be drank to last up to a complete 3 hours in sunlight , however a vampire can only take so much or the pure magical power would simply be too much. Essentially acting as an over dose. The power scaling comes in with the fairies themselves. Their power is drawn from the innate magic Within themselves, this being only present in faeries, this power not yet known where it originated(aka in working on that part). This allows them to manipulate their own energies similar to the ki system in dragon ball. As well as certain faerie families having specialized ways in which this power is used.

@OocSNKZ It’s really simple but effective. It’s essentially like Dragon Ball Z and power levels but if they actually continued using that concept to measure power. In Toriko they have “Capture Levels” for ingredients or beasts. And depending on how difficult it is to attain the ingredients or capture the beasts the higher their capture levels. You might think that the power scaling system so far is just really basic but the manga really shows you how to tell apart low capture level beasts from those who higher capture levels. For example low capture level beasts would be something like large snakes who shoot acids with a capture level around 20-25 or so. But when we move up the scale to a beast with a capture level that’s much higher like 6,000-7,000 they are capable of some crazy ass shit. For example there was one beast so powerful that he was able to perfectly cut a giant mountain and throw it across the ocean and make it skip until it’s reduced to a mere pebble. But yea hope that helps.

Naruto's power system is as consistent as JoJo's until the war arc. Although the explaination was because Naruto was giving out the 9 Tails Chakra like candy to everyone and the enemy was using its own tailed beast Chakra.

I had a small idea for a power system. Nothing too original or elaborated, and I only have a general outer frame for it, but still an idea.
Essentially, it's called Ego (placeholder name). It's a power born out of the user's personality, passions, phobias, ideals or trauma, and anyone is able to awaken it in some capacity. It has generally an unawakened form and a fully realized one, depending on the user's state of mind. The unawakened form manifests itself mostly physically and with limited capabilities, counciding with the user still not fully comprehending or accepting the power. Once the user comes to terms with themselves and fully grasps their ability's potential, it awakens and takes a more subdued, ethereal form, with the power growing exponentially but becoming more tiring and psychologically straining to use as a result.
It's extremely dependent on the user's psyche, and any heavy psychological change could technically alter the Ego in unpredictable ways.
Technically speaking, that's about all I could think of for now. Very rough, but hey, till an idea.
But probably the most elaborate part I have in mind is the naming convention, because I LOVE the idea of a power system with a precise naming convention. Every Ego power's name is chosen through the formula
    [Verb] + [Linker] + [Noun]
And so, you get stuff like Morph Your Wave, Dive in Darkness, Shield My Soul, Dance 'til Death, Hitch a Ride, Spin My Head, Shape The Earth, and Watch Your Back.
In case you're wondering yes, this idea was actually born as a terrible idea for a Jojo fan series. They were all stands with terrible music references. I changed the entire thing around when s friend of mine made me notice that at this point I could have just done something completely different instead of writing a crappy fanfiction.

Wait, Kurapika becomes a Nen Expert capable of using all categories just because of his scarlet eyes. Nen limits users' ability with percentage, but people like Netero don't need to follow this rule like everyone else, just because he is old and trained hard. Chimera ants discover Nen easily, even though it should be something super secret. Chimera ants are able to master Nen in a few days, while hunters take years to do so. Gon being the only character using the thing of exchanging life for power although several other characters could have done this when they were on the verge of death. Aren't they plot holes or script inconveniences?
If Kurapika becomes an expert with his eyes, that means his clan also became an expert, right? So how was the Kurta clan massacred by Genei Ryodan when Kurapika managed to kill a member without much difficulty, being an expert?
Why didn't Pokuru, Killua's butler or Kaito against Pitou use the exchange of life for power? They didn't have much to lose, they were going to die anyway.
If anyone knows please answer me, it's been a while since I read Hunter
But in my opinion, Kurapika mentioning in the succession to the throne arc that he had separated some chains, to use against people who were not part of the troupe, makes all the weight placed on the Yorkshin arc disappear. Because at that time, the whole thing about Kurapika having created his arsenal solely to kill spiders, placing oaths etc. showed how far he would go for revenge, how determined he was to the point of no longer caring about his life etc. I honestly feel that Togashi created the whole thing where he reserved other chains to use on other people much later in the story, as if it were an excuse to continue creating Kurapika's journey. After all, Kurapika would be vulnerable in the arc of succession to the throne if all his chains were created just to kill spiders. The author needed him available to fight in this arc, so he went back on the whole thing with the promises and oaths that Kurapika made at the beginning of the story.

The best power system for me is HxH and World trigger.
I would also like to say that I disagree to your statement that an overpowered character is poorly written.
They make them overpowered in purpose to make them interesting and sometimes they even look cool.
If they can manage to make the story interesting with an overpowered character, then the anime/manga is written very well and not poorly like you say.
You just gave the best example to contradict yourself.
Saitama in OPM became OP because of some bllsht training but people still love the show/manga.
Another OP character is Aizen from Bleach. He can beat almost all of the other commanders by himself with only his Shikai. Did people think he is poorly written? No. In fact Aizen is considered as one of the best anime villain of all time.

I know there's still a war going on about whether or not this is an anime or not, but I'm surprised you didn't make Avatar TLA an example. It's my favorite for 3 reasons
-1: The philosophy of "Merging different styles, cultures, and ways together makes you stronger"
Yes, Aang is the only one who can use all 4 elements, but that doesn't mean you can't take the ways of the 4 elements and incorporate their ways into your one element. This is possible thanks to the fact that all you need is movement to control 1 of the 4 elements.
-2: Nonbenders are still capable of kicking ass. They may have a harder time becoming a threat but put in the training and you could wope even some of the better benders. Whether it's through specific training, tactics, or a weapon of choice. Hell, even though they never state it, it's implied that most benders get so complacent with their bending abilities, they won't be much of a threat if their bending is taken away.
-3: Powers Scaling: Only the Avatar is capable of the biggest scale attacks. Most benders are pretty tame in terms of scale, and when a fight does come up, it's not (just) about power. While the powers of benders vary, it's never just "The dude who can bend the biggest rock wins", there are factors to this. Skill, Experience, Tactics, Way of Moving, Build, Weapons, Techniques, Smarts. Enough variety for anyone to hop in and try something that might down the strongest dude, and other than bending, none of these are exclusive to anyone.
Anyway, TLDR: I find Avatar to have 1 of the best power systems, and I want to do my best to follow its example, alongside One Piece

Plus it’s important to note that in one piece, some powers are introduced and already exist in the world without the readers knowing so that when it’s given a better introduction in the future, it doesn’t make it an a** pull. For example, Enel using observation haki which gets properly introduced many arcs later.

The power relies on life force and even a small amount of proficiency with it can allow someone to pull arms and legs off like twigs. However, upon a character unlocking Biji, there's a 15% chance he/she will encounter a grave downside, from something as insignificant as losing taste in ravioli to straight up killing you. Sometimes the side effects don't even hit you for years, while other times you'll be given something that looks great on the surface but is actually super bad and dangerous (ec. Inflation, character's strength and Biji gradually increase over time until it becomes too much and his arm explodes).

This way when characters fight you have an idea of which special techniques cost how many points, you can even try to guess which ability the characters will lose when they have X amount of points left, what they can do to start out fights and how they will be forced to strategize more often when they're in longer fights. It could add alot of depth in the reader's own interactivity though educated guesses, and keep things like Bleach and Naruto's overblown power escalation to a point where their established systems no longer matter/make sense.

That could work well in two ways if its only the user they would have to thing when to save it, but if the opponent could see it all the time a character might try to make their opponent spend all their power then attack them with all of their strength when their opponent cant block the attack with their power drained.

can anyone grade my power system because i really need some feedback and i refuse to ask my family lmao, ima add more as i figure it out (i havent figured out most of it so far):
The power system is called Karma (their life force) and there are 3 groups within it. 1, Healers - 2, Elementals - and 3, Karma Users. The reason why these 3 groups exist are because of 3 siblings that go deeper into my story’s lore (i need to figure that out lol) Karma can be used when the user goes through intensive mental and physical training, however physical training is less effective to Healers since their power does not require any training other than mental fortitude. In my world, physical training without mental discipline means nothing. So users must master both trainings. Also to note, if a user masters one training but not the other (mastering physical training but not mental) their Karma will become unbalanced and their health will deteriorate until they die.

I'm sorry, but if I may ask, what limits do the elemental users have? I'm not asking how many elements they can use at once, I'm asking if there is a current count of elements that elemental users have been seen using. And what abilities to karma users have? I apologize for the questions.

    • @systemma
      @systemma ปีที่แล้ว

@@bbqsauce4796 No, no, those are great questions! Elemental users can use earth, fire, water, and air. However, it mostly depends on your genetics and ancestry of which element you can use. No one is able to use more than one element, the only person in my universe that can do this is Elemental sibling that created it. And for the Karma Users, it’s a pretty broad category and I haven’t figured out how to not make them so overpowered. I’ll get you the answer for them once I find out, thanks for the questions!

Hunter x Hunter is my favorite power system. It’s incredibly intricate and original. I thought the introduction of meruem and nanika was super lame as it took away from the value of the nen system. Other than that it’s still my favorite shonen series.

    • @pepsalt
      @pepsalt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

nanika was deductive from the power system but meruem? not so much. meruem is a parallel to gon and is almost like an evil mirror of gon's adult self (which we see towards the end of hunter x hunter) and is therefore extremely close to the power ceiling but is still said to be unexperienced and not fully mature which gives us a very unique view on the end goal of nen. meruem's usage of nen is meant to be extremely raw but in extreme quantities. as if saying: here is what a maximum amount of nen looks like, but this guy doesn't actually know how to use it so there is still a lot of room for a character of this power to grow.
if the story continued, meruem would become an integral narrative device to rationalise what would have been the dark continent and would have stopped all power creep essentially by being the strongest but not by showing that power.

    • @B1izzardd
      @B1izzardd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@pepsalt I guess you’re right given the fact he at least used nen. My thought process was that Meruem has barely been born and then shitstomped the unanimous strongest nen user in the series (Netero) without a nen ability of his own. And yes adult Gon is stronger then Netero but realistically any version of Meruem would still have beaten him handily.
My gripe is we never saw what Meruem was actually capable of. What if he had absorbed 6/7 of Pitou as well? What if he absorbed all parts of each of his guards? What if he developed an original and creative nen ability? Meruem as a character was very well written, his arc was masterful, but his level of power threw a lot of the preexisting parts of the series out of the window for me.
When I look at the phantom troupe, (which yes I know Gon and Killua had caught up with by the point in the series) I know that each of them had similar training and sacrifices to match those of Gon and Killua throughout Yorknew City and Greed Island with each possessing an ability that was unique to them that represented them as a character and represented their nen affinity. Introducing and absolute God was a problem of mine on its own. It felt like a cop out to me. Togashi is one of the greatest writers I’ve ever read, not just in shonen. So to see him use such a lame powercliff after an entire series of unmatched creativity was a little lame. And then not even allowing that God to accomplish anything he would’ve truly been capable of was also lame. Like if you’re gonna have him in there at least let him do his thing. But again, his arc as a character was beautiful. And yeah Nanika was a fucking hack. He should’ve just stayed with the “Feitan Zoldyck” plan.
