Harley 95 is the Twin Cam 88 Sleeper

  • The Twin Cam 88 with the 4 inch stroke is a real sleeper when converted over to a 95. Harley 95 kits are available right off the shelf and they are one the best upgrades out there for a Twin Cam 88. Cam swaps on the Twin Cam 88 add quite a bit but they still fall short of the 100 horsepower and torque mark. Adding a 95 conversion with the short stroke of the 88 makes for quick revving engine which puts you in the power torque faster and it's just plain fun to ride. You can bore your factory Twin Cam 88 cylinders to a 95, 97 or even a 98 but then you have to wait on machine shop turn around time. A right off the shelf Harley 95 kit is the quickest and easiest way to get your Twin Cam 88 some displacement and not break the bank while doing it.

      I brought my bike into the my local bike shop it’s a 03 fatboy was a 88. First he did cams, tensioner air cleaner and a program. Was not enough pull for me so I dropped it back off and had him bore it out and do head work I want to say the bore n head work was just under a grand. Money well spent!!

      I bought an 03 883 with plans to put a hammer 1275 kit in it which I bought a few months later when they had a sale. I would definitely buy another kit from hammer on a bigger bike. I'm all about the torque ,0-60 or 0-100 is where it's at im not interested in going over a hundred on a bike these days. I rode big bore sport bikes in my twenties like an idiot. More into cruising now with a few rips here and there

    I will second the 95 is no slouch. I had one in a 2001 Ultra a few years ago, and after riding beside me (I was 2 up) a guy took in his new '14 Ultra for a stage 4 because he was so irritated at his bike.
    The 95's rock. Hands down.

    I just got a 2000 model carbureted Dyna FXDWG with 22,022 miles. The bike is in near perfect original condition. The Guy threw in 2 extra seats and Sissy bar pads. One is the original seat and Sissy bar/pad, a luggage rack, a new Front tire, tube and Rim band in the box. Also, He gave me the original exhaust, (it has Vance&Hines staggered Straight shots now), a new H-D brand bike cover, and a Service Manual. I think I got a pretty good deal.

    It also depends on how you ride. For instance some guys enjoy a sporty ride; high revving, speed cornering, high speed lane changing etc. BUT I just like getting up to the speed limit quickly without a bunch of high revs. SO I love a high torque engine that can effortlessly shove my fat ass down the road.

    I've watched this video a couple of times now and you have me seriously considering changing out my Andrews TW26 cams with the Wood TW6. I had the TW26 cams installed as part of a stage 2 upgrade, but I didn't go with a hydraulic cam chain tensioner because at 37,000 miles there didn't seem to be enough wear to bother. I now want to do a stage 3 big bore kit on my 2006 feul injected Road King and maybe do the Wood TW6 cams plus the hydraulic tensioner. 104HP and 116 ft lbs tq ain't nothing to sneeze at! I do like the TW26 cams though because they come in at 1800/2000 rpm and pull like hell to as fast as I'm will to go, but the dyno chart of the TW6 cams look like they kick in right at 2000 rpm as well.

Cams should be 585 lift to 635 lift . Forget about woods cams every one of those has what I call the woods drop )they make the power for a short minute then the power drops off just when you want it to keep pulling ! A short stroke Twin as a Square Build ( 4x4 ) is a great engine for a light bike such as a Dyna or Softail riding locally. Without a doubt its a peppy engine and that 88in had the tried and true durable crank that was bolted together.
    But to say the bigger stroke engines are a bit slower to jump up and run as quickly isnt the case. The cams with compression dictate the peak torque and horsepower regardless of displacement.
    You smack the throttle on a big bore long stroke with a set of cams for torque. You better have a stout driveline to handle that level of power and have velcro on your seat, ass, gloves and grips.
    I have seen bike engines bang a 120ft pds of torque at 2200 rpms and carry that and more out in the upper rpms.
    I rode a 2002 Dyna Super Glide with a 95in stage 2 kit Mild head work with high lift springs, 48mm Mikuni Carb, Andrews TW54 set of cams and the original V&H Pro pipe. It was a great short ride bar hopper!!!

      @GixxerFoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Big cams and hot compression will overcome a lot for sure, a 95 in a touring bike with a high torque cam works really well. With the 5 speed transmission it keep the motor right in that rpm range on the highway for great roll on passing.

      Wood makes some pretty good cam that will day down some power all over the chart. The cam you have is really meant to run with the stock heads and compression, a cam swap would really benefit you quite a bit.
