Got 20,000 miles on my S&S 124" in my 08' Electra Glide with S&S 635HO cams and their 91cc heads CNC ported by Rick Ward. Dyno 135hp/146tq! Torque peaking @4000 rpms which is right where I want it! Great bagger setup! Now I didn't cut any corners. I have a S&S TC3 cam plate and oil pump set at 40 psi, Screamin Eagle compensator, Barnett billet clutch basket, Barnett Scorpion clutch with a lockup pressure plate, HPI 62mm TB, 6.7 g/s injectors, Screamin Eagle Heavy Breather air cleaner and a D&D Boarzilla exhaust. Oh and I run 2 oil coolers and the oil temp never exceeds 210°f. I did it right! It was a setup I saved up for 8 years and I finally captured my dream! It gets 40 mpg and I absolutely love it! Now I will be replacing lifters every 20k miles but that's part of the whole thing.
I’m considering a 124 for my 14 street glide performance bagger build. However, changing lifters every 20,000 miles would suck for me because I put 20,000 miles on pretty damn quick. That’s two seasons for me and I don’t ride from November through March when we have winter and salt on the roads
@@gerrybubenzer5677 I can answer that. The tension on your lifters, tappets from the performance valve springs will cause them to fail. Had to do that with my Screaming Eagle 110 kit. If you don't, you will have catastrophic engine failure!!! High lift cams above 585 lift need performance valve springs so you won't float valves. That's why on my new engine build I went with a S&S 551 bolt on cam and using Fueling 585 lift valve springs, so will not have to change them out so often. Thinking about changing them at 50,000 miles now. I ride over 20,000 miles a year and live in Colorado. Changing them is a pain but necessary!

I have an S&S 124 HC Twin Cam crate motor in my 2015 Street Glide with 47,000 miles on it. I've been all over the US on multiple trips in 30 to 108 degree weather and have had minimal issues with this engine. I can cruise between 80 and 125 MPH all day in the western states and this engine loves it, yet it has good manners in stop and go traffic. Maintenance is the key to reliability and longevity with these engines. I do my own work and make sure things are right between trips. I took the heads off at 20,000 miles to look it over. Although things didn't look bad, I honed the cylinders, put new piston rings on and replaced the valve springs and seals while it was apart. I also replaced the lifters at the same time. I viewed that as cheap insurance. Like this guy said, a clutch upgrade, air cleaner, exhaust, ignition, throttle body, and a bigger oil tank were all necessities. I also change the oil every 2500 miles and use 20-50 synthetic. I have shut it down a few times in stop and go traffic on 95 degree days when the factory head temperature sensor hit 330 degrees to prevent possible damage to the engine, but I do not have an extra oil cooler or head fans like this guy does. I chose not to spend the money for those things and just watch the temperature in tough conditions. I have not converted to chain drive and I'm running my original belt, but I don't do burnouts, 2nd gear wheelies and stuff like that. I'm running a 2 into 1 exhaust made by Khromeworks and I have to tell you, it sounds pretty good going over the Rocky Mountains at the higher RPM's. I think you're right. Big motor for the long rides. Doing local riding just holds the bike back from doing what it wants to do! The Dyna and more realistically the FXR are built for local riding. Just curious as to the MPG on the 124.
I recently bought a 2003 FLH. Cheap. 50 k on it. The 88" is just to slow for me. I, like you live in the Northeast, NJ. Do the same kind of riding. Fast is my speed. I was looking at this engine and enjoyed your review of it.
I have an '04 ultra that I am in the process of rebuilding. Not sure what engine I'm going to use. I have considered the 124. My concern too was long distance rides. I do understand most of the things that go with such a change except, Why did you have to change the oil tank? Thanks for the great video.
Such a beautiful ride man, my 2011 dyna has the 110 tire shredder making 106hp and 122tq and is plenty of power for me though I do entertain the idea of a 124. I'm a fair weather rider so it would probably be a waste of money for me plus I also have a 2020 z900 for when I do feel like hauling ass lol!!!
How do you feel about that ferring setup? Alot less fatique when riding hard for long? I run a 14 street bob with a few things done to, but i do ride it like a dirtbike, id like to do this someday because im never getting rid of that bike it was a dream of mine forever when i got it after countless junky bikes, i knew i wanted a blacked out dyna
Hahaha, the gamerax styled icon. But no, a handy video. Despite any cons I'm yet to see (as i'm only starting the video), this still will be an option on the horizon for me. ⚡️ Edit: Just got through it all. Yeah, still highly considering, thanks for putting in the other mods which definitely may be needed.
I like the suspension set up you have also , the best in the business . I have Öhlins suspension on my bike too and the ride is amazing and adjustable for all road conditions . Wish I had your wallet ! Mine is non-existent . Thanks for the cool video and letting us see your bike in motion . Glad it's not a garage Queen .
I need to go back and look because there were other jobs happening including a full overhaul of the brakes - It was a lot though, by far the most expensive job I have ever done given the amount of things that need to be modded in the bike to fit & handle that engine - Any good shop or dealership should be able to give you a quote, let me know how it goes - If it's a bike you know you'll never sell, based off of my experience, I say go for it 🏁 ⚡
Hey mate from OZ..Love that serious weapon you've got there..Very tasteful mods all round👌 I've been watching your vids on and off now for the last 5yrs or so when I get the chance and love seeing how and what others do with the same bike as mine.. Is that the ultracool oil cooler you're running there, and have you had any issues with it? Also have you ever measured the engine temps you're getting it up to on hot days with the cooler on? Either with your previous 110 or on the 124? I've got the mini love jugs and they do help a bit but im just deciding which oil cooler im gunna have to go with, because as you know when you start giving it a bit of stick these things start cooking rapidly.. And if i keep going the way im going without an oil cooler i fear its gunna shit itself soon..And this bikes a keeper for me too..TIA👍
I would hands down recommend that Ultra Cools oil cooler - No other issues besides the one I mentioned - With my 110 I was able to get away with a smaller oil cooler and no side fans, the 124 is just a different beast all together - Appreciate you checking it out man, what year is your bike? 🔥
Good question, honetly man, in terms of torque, that 117 actually definitely gives it a run for it's money with a proper tune - In the long run though, the 124 will definitely pull ahead
How often do u do the oil change I have a 120st currently n that sucker gets supper hot n burns my oil to the point it needs to be changed every 2-3k miles or so
Ive toyed with idea of putting in the S@S T111 crate motor in my Dyna FatBob...Its wouldnt be crazy fast like the 124 but i think with its 2 year warranty and its shorter stroke that runs cooler...It might be a good fit for me as my all round everyday Bike/tourer....
@@FXDLSBrooklyn Yes...Iam think it would have plenty of power for a 700lb Dyna and it would very dependable for the long term....Looking for 100K mile plus dependability...

I'll admit, and I'm not one to humble myself to such humble proclamations...having ridden your Dyna last fall, I haven't quit thinking about "the perfect Dyna." Unlike you, my starting point to everywhere I ride is not urban clusterfrak that would make me feel like I would be destroying the aluminum and steel cooking me a few inches away, and within ten fast minutes I could be riding on the stretch of road in the country; 1-71 south from Sparta to Louisville Kentucky...(sure Texas and Utah have long stretches of highway, south of Atlanta, 1-80 westbound from the Poconos on Sunday mornings, but 1-71 is aggressive, and you're doing battle with methChallengers, Chromestack tuned Cummins powered dually's, outlaw Porsches and day trucks...) Within a half an hour I can be on Rt.22 which is the Midwestern Isle of Man,...yes a high horsepower light, huge torque Harley fits into my wheelhouse... Floorboards this time perhaps, expensive suspension, fxrt fairing with taller windshield... I must not think bad thoughts....
Honestly the last thing that's holding on is the transmission, which will have to be upgraded at some point - As for the chain, you're going to be breaking belts if you don't do it
@El_Peto Hmmm,...So you caught your ole lady screwing a Harley rider again... relax, the stretching will shrink back down so you can feel her again. Don't be mad at the bike it was the rider that did it.

The ST actually holds its own in comparison - It’s like a sports car vs a hot rod - Appreciate you checking it out!
I have an '04 ultra that I am in the process of rebuilding. Not sure what engine I'm going to use. I have considered the 124. My concern too was long distance rides. I do understand most of the things that go with such a change except, Why did you have to change the oil tank? Thanks for the great video.
It definitely handles long distance miles really well 🏁 ⚡️
Start with Darkhorse lower end. 3K then go with an S&S gear drive cam / plate too, TC3 oil pump $750. Then Screaming Eagle the rest of the way!
Such a beautiful ride man, my 2011 dyna has the 110 tire shredder making 106hp and 122tq and is plenty of power for me though I do entertain the idea of a 124. I'm a fair weather rider so it would probably be a waste of money for me plus I also have a 2020 z900 for when I do feel like hauling ass lol!!!
i think im going to do this with my 88in 06 dyna
How do you feel about that ferring setup? Alot less fatique when riding hard for long? I run a 14 street bob with a few things done to, but i do ride it like a dirtbike, id like to do this someday because im never getting rid of that bike it was a dream of mine forever when i got it after countless junky bikes, i knew i wanted a blacked out dyna
Definitely helps with those longer miles
Are you running a stock 5 speed transmission? What about clutch?
6 speed trans - Barnette clutch
Hahaha, the gamerax styled icon.
But no, a handy video. Despite any cons I'm yet to see (as i'm only starting the video), this still will be an option on the horizon for me. ⚡️
Edit: Just got through it all. Yeah, still highly considering, thanks for putting in the other mods which definitely may be needed.
Appreciate you making it through to the end! I’ve had a blast with this engine, zero regrets 🔥
So what did the upgrades and mechanic fees set you back in total. I'm seriously considering the 124. Tryna get an idea on price of the upgrade parts.
I need to go back and look because there were other jobs happening including a full overhaul of the brakes - It was a lot though, by far the most expensive job I have ever done given the amount of things that need to be modded in the bike to fit & handle that engine - Any good shop or dealership should be able to give you a quote, let me know how it goes - If it's a bike you know you'll never sell, based off of my experience, I say go for it 🏁 ⚡
Good looking bike. How would the 124” do with a 5 spd vs 6 spd?
I’ve had a couple people write in with them on earlier models like a 2001 FXDX, and they definitely weren’t complaining
@@FXDLSBrooklyn good to know. I have an 06 Road King that I am looking at going big motor with.
So did you break it in with a break-in tune then get it dyno tuned?
You running stock mounts front and rear ? Thanks
Hey mate from OZ..Love that serious weapon you've got there..Very tasteful mods all round👌
I've been watching your vids on and off now for the last 5yrs or so when I get the chance and love seeing how and what others do with the same bike as mine..
Mines a 17..Thanks Thanks for the reply 👍
Is it a hot running engine like the 103/ 110 harley engines?
Not that I notice, but that's with a cooler, fans, and a proper tune
How does the lowrider ST compare with it ?
Good question, honetly man, in terms of torque, that 117 actually definitely gives it a run for it's money with a proper tune - In the long run though, the 124 will definitely pull ahead
Are you running the factory transmission and clutch?
Upgraded Clutch - Still somehow getting away with factory trans, going to ride it out until it goes and then upgrade to Baker
How often do u do the oil change I have a 120st currently n that sucker gets supper hot n burns my oil to the point it needs to be changed every 2-3k miles or so
I try to do it every 2500
I was also surprised how much oil the thing burns up, that's real
Ive toyed with idea of putting in the S@S T111 crate motor in my Dyna FatBob...Its wouldnt be crazy fast like the 124 but i think with its 2 year warranty and its shorter stroke that runs cooler...It might be a good fit for me as my all round everyday Bike/tourer....
Honestly, that T111 would probably be more than enough - Probably the more realistic option if don't need everything that comes with a 124
@@FXDLSBrooklyn Yes...Iam think it would have plenty of power for a 700lb Dyna and it would very dependable for the long term....Looking for 100K mile plus dependability...
@El_Peto Keeping a Harley Stock gives you plenty of reliablity
@El_Peto When it comes to my 2012 103 twin cam version...In its stock form its got me at 52,000 plus miles without any Engine issues.....So the proof is in the pudding....One question have you ever owned a Harley?....Or are you just repeating things you either read or heard?
Have the 110 in my roadking
Okay
Was the whp? I assume so
I'll admit, and I'm not one to humble myself to such humble proclamations...having ridden your Dyna last fall, I haven't quit thinking about "the perfect Dyna."
Unlike you, my starting point to everywhere I ride is not urban clusterfrak that would make me feel like I would be destroying the aluminum and steel cooking me a few inches away, and within ten fast minutes I could be riding on the stretch of road in the country; 1-71 south from Sparta to Louisville Kentucky...(sure Texas and Utah have long stretches of highway, south of Atlanta, 1-80 westbound from the Poconos on Sunday mornings, but 1-71 is aggressive, and you're doing battle with methChallengers, Chromestack tuned Cummins powered dually's, outlaw Porsches and day trucks...) Within a half an hour I can be on Rt.22 which is the Midwestern Isle of Man,...yes a high horsepower light, huge torque Harley fits into my wheelhouse...
Floorboards this time perhaps, expensive suspension, fxrt fairing with taller windshield...
I must not think bad thoughts....
Is the S&S engine the same as the Harley engine?
XD nice thumbnail meme
Getting to work now will watch later
Appreciate you Paul!
I’m more or less trying to figure out if there’s a trans on it or not bc I want one with no trans
is the stock gearbox durable for this swap and is chain conversion necessary ?
Honestly the last thing that's holding on is the transmission, which will have to be upgraded at some point - As for the chain, you're going to be breaking belts if you don't do it
@@FXDLSBrooklyn thanks a lot..⭐ it's just.. I dislike chain drive on bikes and I would like belts to resist that engine 😭❤
@@lukaapakidze4250 believe me if I had a choice it’s always going to be belt, but it is what it is
@El_Peto
Hmmm,...So you caught your ole lady screwing a Harley rider again... relax, the stretching will shrink back down so you can feel her again.
Don't be mad at the bike it was the rider that did it.
Where can I get fairing and lowers like that?
RWD & JD
What exactly happened to the original motor?
Rode through hell & back and exploded at around 50k miles in a blaze of glory
@@FXDLSBrooklyn hahahaha
@@FXDLSBrooklyn Through Gaza ?
i really wanna put this thing on a Wide Glide.
Someone's had to have done it
@@FXDLSBrooklyn i kept looking and i haven't found anyone putting this thing in a Wide Glide, as most are baggers, so i guess i'll be the first. i'm already imagining 14" Apes, +10 degree rake triple trees, 4" over fork tubes, and 1" lower rear shocks not only for that classic look, but also to keep the front end planted when i crack open the throttle.
What is the Front fairing you're running?
127 yeah 👍. 127.
I'll tell ya young brother, my 143 DRAGON was a nightmare to get straight but ok once u figure it out BLAST OFF 😂 168.5 HP 157 T. BUT LONG HAUL N.F.G. Heavy traffic better push the dam thing, LIGHT TO LIGHT OR TRACK, I WIN
@El_Peto Lol. How many kids are riding any sport bike for 10k miles or 10 to 15 hr rides on any sport bike? Not many.. Sport bikes are not designed for long haul riding.. Cruisers are just built different and you ego won't allow to see the difference
@El_PetoI also have a Busa little boy get Ur junk out im waiting
What happened to the factory 110?
What year was your s&s 124 buddy?
This.
😂😂😂

People wanted a face reveal - They got one.
Has anyone managed to squeeze one of these 124ci in a Sportster?
I would love to see this, that would be out of control - I feel like you would have to cut the frame to do something like that
All in how much you got in the motor swap?
@@user-mn4ii3gi9w probably enough to have bought a new bike 😂
Thanks for sharing

Haha only now watching forgot to watch it earlier, was busy XD
15 January,great day,pay day hehe :P
That's at least 15k... damn man... can't hide money
You got to change that s&s air cleaner for the S&S Cycle Gloss Black Stealth Air Stinger Air Cleaner Kit w/Teardrop - 170-0718A
Pretty sure it's the same element. To.
That one just looks terrible
Respectfully disagree - I dig the raw & simple aesthetic of the stealth and haven't had any issues 🏁 ⚡
How you going to tell a man what he should do with HIS BIKE??? You new "bikers" are weird. Go build your bike however you want lame.
There is no difference between an hour or a hundred hours, engine-wise. If it makes it an hour, it'll make it a hundred. Engines don't have feelings. :P. Also, I'm not broke but not overloaded with money either. How do you afford taking these "chances" on an engine? Maybe you have endless $$$s. I have a few extra $$$s but not limitless money.
I work really hard so I can play hard, pretty simple formula - Appreciate you checking it out!
@El_Peto I don't think cars agree with anything. I've never talked to a car. You're the expert, not me, Jack A.
Yeah but so $$$$$
Y lucky bugger you must have lots of cash.
On the contrary, this is probably why I don't have lots of cash
