@@matthewwilliams3827 That's mostly due to the last decade moving gaming forward SOOOOOOO little that games from 10 years ago were more creative and moving forward than what has dropped since.

Sony should buy the franchise from Konami and give it to Kojima so he can be FREE to make the very best Metal Gear possible. I still don’t understand why Konami doesn’t just sell the damn thing…
He doesn't want to work on Metal Gear. After like every MGS game he wanted to work on something else but for some reason or another he had to go back. If they gave the series to Kojima he might make a game here and there but would mostly do his own thing like he's doing now
Honestly I think its story is not only underrated, but brilliant. It's such a dark, thoughtful, deep thing that sticks with you if you really dig into it. Watch Michael Saba's video about it.
Agree. I’m not sure why everybody’s complaining about the story. Would have loved more cutscenes instead of cassette tapes, but if you dig into the lore, it’s fantastic.
I had never played a game like this leading up to it. I just got a GTX 960 and got this game for free as a bundle. I never had a gaming capable rig, or a console that could play MGS. This was my first step into AAA PC gaming. Unbelievable experience.
Big Boss was never exclusive to David Hayter as Richard Doyle voiced him in Metal Gear Solid 4 as well. I really felt Kiefer Sutherland fit Big Boss perfectly. Kojima cast him because he was having dinner with Sony Pictures producer Avi Arad one day and he made the suggestion to Kojima.
Keifer was much better than Hayter. Hayter is fine as Solid Snake, but Big Boss sounds so much better with Sutherland. Even Richard Doyle and the original Japanese voice actor was better than Hayter.
Sutherland's acting chops were not wasted. Its just most of the story for fed through the cassette tapes. If you listen to them you'll see how much he added to the game.
Me too. Only downside is that it’s not consistent with the other games. Maybe they should’ve chosen to give Kiefer the voice for Venom only. Not for Big Boss.
Me too! I thought he was a really good fit for it. I didn't really find it distracting at any point to hear him voicing big boss. The weird thing is just how little they let him speak and cutscenes. Especially because he has a ton of dialogue in the tapes
Tbh what makes it interesting for me and actually fits with mgsv is that venom is NOT actually big boss. He’s a completely different person and it actually is kinda smart in terms of story making kiefer the voice because venom in reality is nothing like big boss and shouldn’t have the same voice as him. What bothers me is that they used him for big boss as well, it would’ve been better to keep hayter for big boss and kiefer for venom only.
@@dewokkelI don't think it's intentional, but the way I see it, as Big Boss got older and more world-weary, his voice changed; and he already had a different va in MGS4 (Richard Doyle). Solid Snake, who is a clone of BB, is always played by David Hayter, who also voices the younger, more idealistic/naive Big Boss. Even as Old Snake, Solid still retains those ideals, and that voice. Meanwhile, Venom is a "clone" of the older, rarely goofy, post-Peace Walker (betrayals and all) BB, and both are played by Keifer Sutherland. So to me, both Solid's and Venom's voices match the man BB was at those times, as they might as well be two completely different people.
I"ve started to play again couple of days ago... First time i've paid attention for how Snakes back muscles work at the hospital.... Just crazy details for its time
I really like Kiefer Sutherland as big boss. Never once did it feel out of place to me. If anything it always was a little weird to me that Big Boss sounded exactly like solid snake as much as I love David Hayters portrayal as well But the sad part is that the majority of kiefer's lines come in audio tapes. They have this whole kind of excuse why he doesn't speak much in cutscenes because he's supposed to be this vessel for the player and isn't the real big boss so wouldn't necessarily have lots of input in conversations about things he wouldn't actually know about. But then when you listen to the tapes he has a ton of lines. Wasted opportunity if you ask me because listening to those tapes has to be done at that menu and you can't just play them while you're playing the game. Otherwise my only real complaint other than the game feeling a little rushed with one of the more simplistic stories in the series. It's just that despite being touted as open world, it really isn't. Sure there are these two big maps that you can wander around in, but there's nothing to do. There is literally zero reason to get on your horse or get in a Jeep or whatever and drive around the map to do different side missions when you can just take the helicopter. You don't really find anything worthwhile out in the world and those tiny little garden campments that sit at the corner of the roads. And you are constantly locked from traversal by Rocky terrain that snake just can't climb over so there's not really any reason to explore either. Instead each map has a handful of bases that you're going to revisit multiple times that act as their own little sandbox depending on how the enemy placement and defenses are set up. So it kind of doesn't feel all that much different than the approach for something like peacewalker. You are just basically deploying to different missions all the time and it probably would have been better if they just made twice as many locations without being connected by some big map. Ground zeroes already showed that you can have a decent sandbox in just one base, so they could have done the similar thing to that and just had a larger surrounding area so that you did have a little bit more freedom of approach. But either way, I love the hell out of this game and replay it often. I think metal gear solid 3 holds a place in my heart where I call it my favorite, but this one sits right underneath it for gameplay alone and is by far the series title that I have spent the most time in. This game is part of what I bought a PlayStation 4 to play in the first place. These days I have it on Xbox and steam as well Despite all the flaws, it manages to be one of my favorite games of all time
To this day the greatest stealth game ever made. This game saved me during my college years. If you have played every mgs game before this knowing the full backstory and 100% this game like I did you will be satisifed with it's conclusion. To me this game was always complete. Just because content was cut doesn't mean it needed to be there. Creators cut content all the time. The ending wrapped up the mgs timeline from the first game back in 1995
I just started playing MGSV this year (first game I am playing in the series), and I have been loving it. I started playing it once I saw the initial Delta announcement trailer. While I understand longtime fans' complaints and whatnot, as a newer fan of the series, this game has made it ways into my "top games ever played" list and will probably remain on it for eternity.
Got this game for my 18th birthday can’t believe how much time has passed me since then I can still remember listening to the man who sold the world on repeat
I always thought they should have just got David to voice Ishmael, that way the voice change actually makes sense. You could explain away ground Zero as false memories planted in venom snake during the coma.
i absolutely loved the story, loved the gameplay. being a huge MGS fan i love each game for different reasons. am glad David Hayter is back, but i think Kiefer was great in MGSV. looking forward to DELTA and DS2. if we can get "OASIS" to reform am sure we can get KONAMI and KOJIMA to create magic again.
I’m still SO SAD that it’s ALREADY BEEN almost a decade and gaming just hasn’t FELT THE SAME without having a new potential entry in my favorite series ever to look forward to (because any time there was a new mainline MGS game scheduled for release, it IMMEDIATELY “skipped the line” of all other games in becoming my MOST ANTICIPATED). What’s EVEN MORE DEPRESSING is I still want to BELIEVE that this game could’ve been an unparalleled masterpiece if Konami hadn’t meddled with and SEEMINGLY did everything in their power to try and “sabotage” the last year of development (lots of “data mining” post-release found evidence hidden in the game’s code that there was supposed to be an Act III for the main story as well as other unused assets).
This was my first MGS game and my last. I had no idea no idea what I was doing and why. I played it for hours till I gave up on it. The story was confusing at best, but the gameplay was great. I had fun taking down enemies in the field, but as someone who finds a compelling story necessary to justify in-game activities, I was left sorely disappointed.
Well you’re an idiot. You’ve just said that the gameplay was great but you didn’t understand the story. Of course you won’t. MGS has a long history and unless you’ve played the others, you’re not going to understand the story at all. Ignorance is not always bliss
I don’t understand how you’re not surprised, it’s the 5th game in series, not including the portable spinoffs. Of course you weren’t going to appreciate the story.
I am grateful and lucky that I grew up with the series and the only one I never completed was MGS3 which is getting the remaster treatment anyhow, very much looking forward to it.
The fact that even after the harsh departure from Konami, Kojima productions has managed to make several new IPs. Including a brand new tactical espionage game currently in development, is impressive and amazing to me as a long time MGS fan. 😊
This game was awesome and I would love to see a completed version of this game including the original vision for chapter 3, and the Battle Gear buddy. One thing that could have really increased the longevity of the game would be a co-op option for the open world. It would have been nice to get consistent updates for years with this game.
The gameplay, controls and graphics were ahead of its time. Even until now, no other game matched the experience with playing MGSV. I do however like Keifer's voice. David's voice acting was mind blowing on MGS1. However on MGS2 and onwards, his tone became too flashy. I loved Kiefer's serious voice and it fits well with the character.
Funny that yous made this video now. I have not played it for 8 years now and decided to go back to it last week. Really enjoying it, it is just ashame it was never fully finished.
It's funny how during the mission Retake the platform, you have to take down MSF soldier who think Big Boss is the one who throws his comrades under the bus 9 years ago to die by hands of XOF which is a bit of foreshadowing to how big boss made Venom a decoy to take heat of cipher and the world due to which Venom and outer haven dies by the hand of Solid snake while BB hides in peace
I'm a Massive MGS fan - favourite franchise but I remember when this game was in development & there was a whole reddit surrounding the story of MGS5 from a trailer, few cryptic Kojima tweets, Moby Dick, Ishmael & Ahab references from trailers & they pretty much summed up the twist in the storyline & I thought no way thats the story its way too far out there... Then behold, they were right & I was completely wrong, lol.. This was probably over a year before the release - i'll never forget that. Then knowing the twist & after the heli crash theres a POV shot of 'you' on a table looking at Snake on the Table next to you was so smart... Such a shame we wont get a game focused on the twin snakes between 5 & MGS1 imo 😢. Playing Death Stranding was great in all but made me realise what we're missing...
I recently picked this game back up a couple months back. This game is an absolute masterpiece still. Even BO6 is just now learning how to implement the movement system this game already had!
This game IS a masterpiece, the best stealth game ever created, I really hope community is going to make efforts to preserve this game whit emulation, knowing konami they are going to abandon this game (maybe we may get a re release in vol 2 of master collection, will last a decade and will die)
Gameplay 10/10 Story 7/10 They promised you will see why and how big boss would become the outer heaven villain, the story failed to deliver it and MGS is all about its story when it comes to its fandom. I loved the twist at the end though
In 2024 we got star wars outlaws, "peak" open world stealth sandbox am i right? Like, look at how this game got the gameplay right in almost every point
Story is still interesting to me. It still fills in some blanks in the lore. I love this game so much. I’m playing this game as we speak and it’s one of the best MG games out there.
Unfortunately. If only Kojima was given the real chance to finish it with the attention to detail it deserved throughout the whole title. Eff konami money grubbers
I remember them showing off the other interrogation commands in some of the IGN and other news channel early gameplay previews only to not have it in the actual game. Just another thing that it lacked, such a shame too because I still think the mechanics and graphics are on par to some stuff you see today.
Yo I have been playing this game again lately This game is so underrated The gameplay is what makes this game so goos Hope we'll get a similar game soon
As great as it was it sure could have used more of those amazing cut scenes to string it together tighter. You could go weeks without any sort of attachment to the story.
Just redownloaded this actually. Been thinking about it while playing the trilogy (I need 4 damnit). But Hayter IS Snake/Big Boss. That has and will never change
I'm playing this game on ally x at max settings and it looks better than most games released in last year or so. Not to mention, in docked mode, my fps are locked at 60. This engine is the prime example of optimisation.
What I loved most about this game even without a Skullface boss fight was the fact that his actions still effected the world in a phantom sense. I was okay with that once I realized that I had to kill my comrades because of his vocal virus.
Im barely playing mgs 5 for the first time this year, and honestly the best part of it to me is kidnapping soldiers while listening to 80s classics. Cant believe mgs 5 and witcher 3 came out the same year.
I want to retry this game again. I remember trying it years ago and not liking it very much, but I fear I was wrong to dismiss this game, and have misjudged it. Howe well does it run on the PS5
These graphics were wayyyyyy ahead of their time.
And it was the first open world at 60fps on console

I don't disagree with your take, but I do wish Sutherland had been given more to do with that voice.
Ah yes the good MGS game... It and 3.
This was my favorite FarCry like game I just wish the buddy system allowed for coop.
Funny that yous made this video now. I have not played it for 8 years now and decided to go back to it last week. Really enjoying it, it is just ashame it was never fully finished.
Did everyone weirdly get nostalgic about this game at the same time. Been watching mgsv content all week 😭
The graphics still outshine many engines today. Been playing it for the past week.
Gameplay 10/10
Story 7/10
They promised you will see why and how big boss would become the outer heaven villain, the story failed to deliver it and MGS is all about its story when it comes to its fandom. I loved the twist at the end though
Story 4/10 tops, 0/10 if MGS1-3 are on the scale
In 2024 we got star wars outlaws, "peak" open world stealth sandbox am i right? Like, look at how this game got the gameplay right in almost every point
I remember renting the game on a videoclub for 2€ and playing it the whole weekend on my PS3 together with my brother❤
Story is still interesting to me. It still fills in some blanks in the lore. I love this game so much. I’m playing this game as we speak and it’s one of the best MG games out there.
Crazy I just started a new play through today and saw this video on my feed! Masterpiece of a game ❤
Game play was amazing, could tell kojima left you could feel it in the story
greatest game intro ever made
i never understood why they couldn’t have sutherland play venom and david play big boss.
I still play this amazing game to this day. Absolutely one of my top favorite games for life!
I finally finished this game this year. Damn game was bloated
Peace walker was better and the true mgs v
Unfortunately. If only Kojima was given the real chance to finish it with the attention to detail it deserved throughout the whole title. Eff konami money grubbers
@@lonewanderer9982
Peace Walker was excellent
@@lonewanderer9982metal gear solid v is three games peace walker ground zeroes and the phantom pain
The missions were so boring and repeated far too many times. Metal gear is best in a more linear setting with more plot.
That line really hits hard now.
Delta HAS to be a 2024 release.
If it were, we'd surely have a release date by now. It's probably going to be 1st quarter to mid 2025.
Definitely not.
@@DeadPixel1105 they said 2024 on their trailer last year and they havn't announced a delay. I think they're being quite shitty.
The Metal Gear franchise was the pinnacle of stealth. Miss playing unique experiences like this :(
Damn and I thought 9 yrs was a long time
I remember them showing off the other interrogation commands in some of the IGN and other news channel early gameplay previews only to not have it in the actual game. Just another thing that it lacked, such a shame too because I still think the mechanics and graphics are on par to some stuff you see today.
One of the most mental beginnings of a game I've ever played.
Yo I have been playing this game again lately
This game is so underrated
The gameplay is what makes this game so goos
Hope we'll get a similar game soon
As great as it was it sure could have used more of those amazing cut scenes to string it together tighter. You could go weeks without any sort of attachment to the story.
Just redownloaded this actually. Been thinking about it while playing the trilogy (I need 4 damnit).
But Hayter IS Snake/Big Boss. That has and will never change
Wait we are not going to spoil a NINE YEAR OLD TWIST that we all know about? Damn
Still to this day the best sandbox tactical action stealth game
I would like for Keifer Sutherland to come back as Snake in the MGS3 remake but I understand.
They just copied and pasted the audio from the original game. Kind of sad.
Still one of the best games ever made despite its incomplete natire
Compare this to Star war outlaws
God damn, kojima knew what he was doing
One of the best morality systems in gaming
Breaks my heart this series will most likely never get a finale
I'm doing a replay of this game and I'm not upset, I forgot how amazing it is
Ive just starting playing mgs5 on ps3 now and the graphics still look great
I'm playing this game on ally x at max settings and it looks better than most games released in last year or so.
Howe well does it run on the PS5
sad just at the peak of the MGS franchise, we will probably never get a MGSVI
Heh just started playing it last August, now building my FOB #3 & #4.
Story was terrible, gameplay amazing, it's the mgs I was very disappointed, I'm a huge mgs fan
