  • Finally sold the old wheels off the car and decided to throw these on to see how it looked. I can definitely see that this was a good choice and they fit the car quite well!

In 1969 I had a 1963 Galaxie 500XL that I painted a lime green metal flake with white speed stripes, a nearly complete chrome plated engine, a white leather top and white leather interior and shag carpeting (it was the 60's you know). I had all mag wheels and wide tires with the 390 V8. Loved this car.

Ok but....a set of true Torque Thrust wheels with some offset, would be bad ass. Of course if you're running an FE big block, a fiberglass Thunderbolt bubble hood from Crites, would be awesome.

I was never around to give her any attention. Instead of being "that guy" who said I was going to fix it up some day while it went to shit, she went to a good home. Congratulations on the Galaxie. I've always liked the '63/'64 Fords. Those chrome "Modular" wheels that were on the Galaxie came on the market around 1982, same time as the "Blade" wheels. They were made by Cragar, if I'm not mistaken, and were actually sold as car wheels. By the late '80s/early '90s, the truck manufacturers introduced similar factory wheels on their trucks. Now everyone associates these wheels with trucks.

Take a look at some old 1964 galaxy NASCAR pics. You have to cut the rear quarters anyhow, so go for it and run the NASCAR wheels and tires. Just make sure the steer tires can still be turned without rubbing too much.

  • @melspencer9957

You may or may not be aware that Ford had 50 lightweight 1964 Galaxies built in Detroit for AA/S class drag racing. They were 427 highrisers , toploader 4 speed and automatic. Complete sound deadener delete , no heater , fibreglas bubble hood and cold air induction through the inner headlight openings with lightweight fibreglas housings to a plenum on top of the carbs..2 x 4V.
Really thin rubber floor mats , Bostrum lightweight bucket seats., trunk mounted battery , Detroit Locker diff w 31 spline axles. These were not legal for on road operation/licencing. A plate attached to the glove box door stated this.
I was fortunate to own the only one that was exported to Canada and I raced it in the Toronto and surrounding area.
The class was limited to a 7 inch tire so launching was tricky with the tires available back then. I think there are some still existing and I sure wish I still had mine !! Would be a cool car today with upgrades available now. Anyway just thought I would mention it ....have you seen one in your travels ? So of course I enjoy your channel with the two 64's. Keep up the great work !
