    For what it’s worth, on my 1963-1/2 Galaxie 500, I run 275/40ZR18 tires on 18x9.5 wheels with -4mm/5.031" BSM at the rear. If I let the air out of the bags, the tires touch a small pop out at the front of the outer wheel well. The pop out can be “persuaded” away from the tire for no bottoming at full bump travel if you desire. If not, it makes for an effective parking brake when aired down all the way. Also, to get the rears on and off, I let all the air out of the opposite side bag, air up the side I’m removing to full ride-height, loosen the lug nuts, then jack up the frame just in front of the wheel before the kick-up. After removing the lug nuts, push the bottom of the wheel under the car, and the top will drop down to lie face flat on the ground. Installation is the reverse. You can accomplish it without bags but you need to use a bottle or scissor jack between the top of the axle and bottom of the frame rail on the side you’re removing.

    The part where you mentioned cleaning up the paint helps with motivation, and I definitely agree with that. I bought my first classic truck to restore and it was previously a farm truck so everything was caked with mud, dirt, and in the interior it was full of those damn goathead spikes. But after getting all of that stuff cleaned up I was a helluva lot more motivated to work on it. Best part about it being a dirty farm truck is all the caked on dirt acts as a rust inhibitor, it's so clean! The floors are in good shape, the frame only has surface rust and won't take long at all to clean up and restore. Definitely psyched to get more work done to it, I already have the bench seat, gas tank, entire front clip and hood removed, next is the bed.

    All I can say is Bout Time Dude! We were all waiting for the real build to start, Now keep it up. As far as the wheel's yep they look good but do not make the final cut, remember fit doesn't mean function. If you are building a strong motor for this red baby run something that will take the hits your going to put on it. keep it going Dude good channel.

    Bet the Galaxie would look good with a teardrop hood scoop. The first one I ever saw was about 1966 and it was on a 64 Galaxie. With a little lift in the back and a little squat in the front would be so period correct for the 1960's street machine.

    IMO, the early-mid 60s, big body cars look *great* on something like the AR VN511 Salt Flat. I am pretty much at the "I loathe Torq Thrust style wheels" stage of my life, so those would not be my choice, but as long as you like 'em, that's all that counts.

    Definitely no judgment if you run wheel spacer! Those wheels look very nice on the back. If it were me, I'd run them but maybe get a slightly smaller wheel spacer to get a little more gap, maybe a 1.5 inch.

    You should look into putting drum brakes from a 1966 Fairlane station wagon. They are wider but fit right in. Just need to change the retaining clip to the wider one. Shelby used to do this to his race cars.

    14:30 was me last week I daily drive a 88 dodge w150 shorty because my 99 F1SHITTY blew up got rid of it severely rusted electrical issues ext. I bought a super clean 01 second gen dodge ram sport 4x4 and I found new love until the rear left wheel fell off. Put it in 4x4 limped it off the road let it sit for 5 months lost motivation. Hated driving my back killer 88 despite the reactions from others and how well it looks i only had 3 studs holding my 01 sport wheel on so I creeped it at the end of the driveway washed the yellow paint it has polished my American racing wheels sat there and made me smile. And this week i fixed it up and actually drove it. I was away this past weekend and all I could think about was wrench meanwhile I was already having drinks and enjoying a beautiful camp ground. The littlest shit fucking gets me going

    Looks good, but thick spacers like that are a no no. They but more torque/leverage on the wheel bearings and ball joints. Think of it like putting a cheater bar on a wrench, same effect. Get some wheels with a proper offset.

  • @steveherring6660
    @steveherring6660 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    craig i feel same way about the spacers. you cant put the beans to it with the spacers on it. just for the mean time why dont you just put thinner spacers on the hub. i have a 67 mustang with a lincoln 9” rear. the lincoln rear i have is one and a half in to short. i have 3/4” spacers on mine and i cant put the beans to mine, thats ok it keeps me out of trouble. those 3/4” spacer put my shelby ten spoke exactly where they need to be. i plan to get a 9” rear correct length for my mustang so i can put the beans to her.

    I like the wheels. Why not run the spacer? I know it’s not ideal but it’s not dangerous either. People don’t think twice about running 2 inch spacers on high power cars in Japan. Just paint them black so you don’t see them and run them until you find the perfect set. Can’t wait to see some more work on the red galaxie whenever you get to to it though.

    While I love your devotion to the Blue Oval...the only car company in the USA that didn't suck up a mess of tax money, after going bankrupt...I don't understand the priority of doing everything else to the car, except repairing the massive rust damage you pointed out previously. Rebuilding the front end and adding disk brakes is really good, but not really in sequence.
