What was your best time for a quarter mile?

...Street racer only......never (ever) lost...A hemi Roadrunner blew the trans trying (they thought they were racing a 390) , hahaha

@@johnmckenna8989 Ironically my neighbors were truck drivers in the 60's and 70's. They both had plenty of money to throw around. One bought a 62 sometime in 63, just to take the tri power 406 out and have it professionally built by H/M. Doing so he just parked the 62 on a hill side and it was forgotten. The 406 tri power, well it begin life as a 2nd gear willie poppin monster. Fate put it in an old 40 Ford that had a Merc lead sled rear end under it. Thing was a beast. Well after many years the engine got sat in a 56 F100 and dailied. Cam later went bad, and none of the name brand companies actually could get a cam grind right. So the 406 lost its life when someone stole the intake and carbs off it. Doubtful after the owner had died anyone knew what they had, except knowing it was a 406. The 62 well it actually had a decent body and frame, but a maple tree sprouted in the engine compartment and grew over and around the crossmember. So the entire car went down into the black hole of bad dreams...

I assume this car's 12.9 was with slicks and after the engine was souped up...

My Dad had a 62 Tudor post Galaxie 500 406 tripower. Best 1/4 was 13.00 at pocono Drag lodge. He did lots of mods, no 409 car could touch him. 427 8v cam, 4.86 gears, friction fan, cast iron headers, different plate in the dizzy (10 degree?) Electric fuel pump at the tank, uncapped lakers, to name a few. He changed like 20 things. He blew 2nd gear three times.

I did 13.79 with my 66 XL with a warmed over 390 to about 400 hp. The tires were dry rotted my 60ft was terrible. With slicks I'm sure I would of been in the deep 13s too

I ran 15.9 in a practically bone stock '63 Mercury Monterey (Big full size boat, basically a fancy Ford galaxie) 390 2bbl, 3 speed cruise o matic. I was thoroughly surprised..

  • @TBullCajunbreadmaker

Hey Norman, I love your old Flivver. I too am a Ford Galaxie 500 XL fan. I had 3 Galaxies back in my younger days and one 63 Mercury Monterey fastback. Two 64s that were 390s and my last was a Galaxie 500 XL and it just happened to be the same colors that you have in the 62 there. The 390s were really nice, strong cars and one of them had a 3 speed on the floor with O/Drive, the other had a C-6 in it. Both were built up a little but my 63 was the jewel in the bunch. It too was a 406 Interceptor out of a wrecked trooper car. I put an Isky cam in it with a medium rise 4 bbl intake mated with a Holley 750. Had factory headers with those big blue Thrush mufflers. I also had a C-6 tranny in it too. My best time at the track was 13 flat. I had just put those fancy wide ovals on it and I think if I would have had my big Sears Cadillac tires I could have cleared into the 12s somewhere. I'll never know because I had to go into the service and when I was gone my car disappeared too. Somebody stole it right out of my parent's side yard where we had a barn. They must have wanted it badly cause it was gone when they went somewhere for 3 days. I was very, very sick and disappointed. The car was never recovered either. I have been looking for another one but just haven't come across any yet that suits my fancy or pocketbook. People are really dumb and think they have the Holy Grail and want way too much money for something that would cost at least 20K just to get it back on the road. Good Luck with your jewel there.

We had the same car. It was white with a blue interior. Police package as it had a passenger spotlight. Ours had a 3-speed auto and all power interior. Sadly, my father made a poor decision to give her up in 1975 to a Swiss junk yard rather than paying to ship it home. He said later that someone had grabbed it up. Maybe she's still around over there.

I never liked a '62 Galaxie much. I much preferred the '63 instead which is why I own a black, with red interior, '63.5 XL 427 "R" code fully restored car. It's also very unique because the side trim has red stripes centers instead of black. Its last appraisal was May 2022 at $155k because of its rarity and concourse condition.

@@Throdle I've never put any personal information, or objects, on the internet. I've never revealed the location of my vintage/classic cars collection on the internet either. IMHO, it's a dumb thing to do. I've invited a few classic/vintage car enthusiasts to come see my collection, but none ever replied. Evidently, traveling to the northeast is too difficult for them. Ford Museum experts have been to see my Ford classic/vintage collection 3 times because I have 3 that are very rare. Another is a one only that Ford ever produced. Getting that car documented took near 6 months Marti Reports stated that the car never existed. Ford Museum staff experts proved Marti Reports was wrong.

That's without any computer crap or supercharger's in the 60s bud. I'm sure the carb was tweaked, timing up, and a pr of slicks. This car isn't "stock specs" now as he said it's warmed over to 500 hp. It would probably do high 11s with slicks now
