Craig, FYI, as per the factory service manual you do not need a coil spring compressor on these cars (61-64). I just did my ’63 a couple of days ago and it was very easy compared to what you did. First off loosen the lower A frame bushing bolts so you are not working against the rubber bushings. This will allow the A frame to swing freely. With a floor jack coming in from the opposite side place the jack plate (should be a cupped plate) under the spring pocket and raise to take the load off the ball joint. Separate at the lower ball joint so you don’t have the spindle and brake in the way. (No stretching that brake line.) Unscrew the nut a couple of turns. Lower the jack enough to load the ball joint with spring tension and use whatever separator tools it takes. Mine came loose with a couple of taps of a hammer. Once the ball joint is loose slowly lower the jack. When the A frame is about vertical either the spring will fall out or be sitting on the “hook” in the spring pocket and will come out easily. To reinstall basically reverse the process. Lift the new spring into the upper spring pocket and rest the lower coil on the “hook”. Make sure the coil is positioned correctly so the end will be in the pocket when the A frame is raised. Raise the jack slowly and keep the jack plate tight against the A frame spring pocket until it is high enough to follow the A frame by itself. Raise the A frame up and guide the lower ball joint into the spindle and install the nut. Don’t forget to tighten the A frame bushings at ride height. Note: This jacking process should be on a smooth cement floor as I doubt the jack would roll correctly on dirt or gravel.
The spoon or the big flat part of your spring compressor goes just above the lower A arm. That way once you unbolt the spindle and lower the lower A arm you just lift the compressed spring out. A lot less dangerous that way.
glad to see you are back on the Galaxie,. When I met my Wife She drove a Galaxie 390 4 speed car. That was in 1968. We were married in 1969 and traded it in on a Olds 442 w30. I still Like the Ford And Her. My son is doing a 1965 doge coronet 500 and I am helping him with that restro. Keep on Keeping On Dude!!!
Good job looks great. FYI on my 64 Galaxie I left the small block springs in when I swapped it to a big block. And later on I swapped the stock intake manifold out for the Edelbrock aluminum intake, and it lifted the front end almost 2”.
Just a note - you should never let a brake hose stretching and holding up heavy suspension parts. The hose can become damaged inside. Also a lot of coil spring compressors indicate to not use air tools with them to prevent undue damage to the tool.
Such awesome videos, I just purchased a second 76 ford pickup. This one is a high boy and the one I daily drive is a 2wd. I’m going to swap the body off the 2wd to the highboy as the body is much cleaner and rust free then the other. This will be my first major project and would appreciate any info/advice as I get started
I thought it was just the right height stock. Also, lowering by cutting coils can make it hard to get the right camber. And can cause suspension bottoming. Luckily it doesn't look like it went that far.
That's the only thing I absolutely hated about my '64 Fairlane Sports Coupe! After thinking I had it fixed multiple times....to find out NO! So, I pinched off the line. With my Moon custom steering wheel, I didn't need my power steering. Obviously it was a lighter car (intermediate) compared to your heavier car (full size.)
Bro i love your contents your young n doing your thing as my son is rebuilding a 1980 dodge pickup from the junk yard im to lift it on sat .kerp up the gd work
Looks great man! Thanks for your hard work. I’ve been thinking about cutting a coil on my f100 but wasn’t sure if I should go more or less. I’m definitely not getting in a rush but I’m leaning toward 1 coil. Your 1.5 doesn’t seem too bad on tire wear so 1 should be way easy. Still nervous about doing c notches though!
No problem on fixing the tire wear! Take it to an alignment shop that knows what they are doing, and find the oldest guy in the shop! You set camber on beam axles by bending them to the right position. A good shop will have the right tools to do it without removing the I beams from the truck.
Looks good man! I cut 1 and a 1/2 coils out of my 64 (small block) springs and have put a 460 in it! Haven't driven it yet though but happy with the height. Love the Galaxie vids bro.
have you ever thought about doing a shelby drop on the galaxies? i know its possible on the falcons and mustangs. is it possible on a galaxie or fairmont?
love the cars i have 2 1964 fairlanes one has a crites industries tear drop hood u should get one and make a 427 light weight clone maybe for red one thanks for the videos
Craig its been Awsome watching your Videos But is majorly sad that you lowered your Galaxie as I had a friend that lowered his 64 Galaxie XL and I had a 63.5 Galaxie and mine I put extra leaf springs in the rear for traction purposes and worked Great as its been years ago one night down on main Street my buddy got on his 64 XL hard and broke the main leaf spring on the right rear the rear-end shifted hard back messed up the Quarter panel bent the rear end tube and Broke the tail shift on the automatic transmission with all the Awsome craftsmanship your doin id Hate Majorly the same thing happen to your 64 as its not pretty when it happens
I just poured a 24x20 patio 2 weekends ago. Doing it myself with some friends I have Over $1,000 into it. If he won’t spend $400 on coils I doubt he is going to spend more than double that in concrete.
If you're not afraid of a little hard work and you're resourceful it shouldn't be that expensive. I poured an 18x24 pad for less than $400. Buy the material in bulk and mix your own concrete, that's where you'll save the most. I bought sand and aggregate from a local nursery by the truckload, portland cement on offerup, rebar from the local recycling plant, wood for the forms from the depot, and tools used old ass hell wheelbarrow, shovel, float, edger, and trowel all from yard sales. You ain't getting no garage that cheap in California of all places
Why do you have to lower everything, you can have a decent stance and not have to worry that you're going rip the bottom of your car out whenever you drive it, must be a San Diego thing I guess

17:49 Man if I ever own one of these cars Im prolly gonna lift it to this stance. Just the lift guy in me tryna make everything tall lmao.
Theres one on instagram thats lifted with mud tires.

Change to a borgeson box. Totally worth it, and I don't care who rebuilds it using whatever parts, they will ALWAYS leak, just my two cents

You should check out Borgeson for a P/S conversion box and eliminate that mess
We have seen him weld. For pennies this could be managed. Get rid of the rack.
That thing needs a nice set of American Racing grey center Torque Thrust mags. Your '71 does, too.
Good to see the Galaxie's back. Thanx
You should closely inspect your brake lines, you put a lot of stress on them when you stepped on the control arms.
Dude I love this car. You’re doing an amazing job on it. Just like all of your projects
Love the show....I have a 64 Galaxie and was worried about lowering it because of the steering thanks for showing us that it can be done cheap.
Are you fixing the red galaxy or parting it out the white galaxy will look awesome lowered

FACTORY BUMP STOPS PREVENT ANY STEERING INTERFERENCES .DO YOU HAVE ANY FENDERS FOR THE FRONT THAT ARE NOT CUT?
Looks great man!
Damn man you are 3/4 of 100k subs man I remember the day you put out your 10k special! Awesome job man and love the content!
Thank you!! Working hard!

You, go the long way, buddy!
Glad to have a video to watch after work today. And it's my birthday so win win
HIGH PRESSURE HYDRAULIC LINE WITH COMPRESSION CRIMPED HARD LINE FITTINGS.POWER ASSIST CYLINDER.[ RAM]
I’m working on getting the stuff to bag my 77 el Camino
I sure hope you replaced the overstressed brake lines !
My My working day and night on the old girl. Dirt in the eyes from no glasses I can relate. Great Video Craig
Looks good
Love the galaxie!

Looks good man
I wish you'd keep the 4x4 and sell this galaxy. Otherwise, great video today!
Stretched that brake line to the max lol
Nice job👍.
You can order alot of brake an front end parts from kanter I'm not sure if it's kanter automotive.com should be able to look it up easy enough
U did it e galaxie vid
Generally not a fan of rake either, but man that’d look nice with the rear stock and a little fatter tire.
Your still alive, still have all your teeth, so I guess we have to call the operation a success!
That looks like the perfect drop!
So you have a red one and a white one?
I do. They’re both on my channel. Both 64 galaxie 500s
You need something to catch those springs don't want that to be a part or your jaw or head lol
3:25 I should call her.
WHY DIDN'T YOU USE THE STEERING PART FROM YOUR OTHER CAR? SELLING IT OR ?
Those brake lines were stretching hard.
Fix the red Galaxy please!
Nice NRA shirt 👍🏼
Cutting coils is a way better idea than heating them.

Just buy the coils. Do it right.
Could have just got drop spindles. And those brake hoses was screaming
Craigy next time install drop spindles
Why don't you build a small concrete pad and stop laying in the dirt
I just poured a 24x20 patio 2 weekends ago. Doing it myself with some friends I have Over $1,000 into it. If he won’t spend $400 on coils I doubt he is going to spend more than double that in concrete.
I got quoted $6000 For the slab I wanted. Might as well save to move out into a garage.
If you're not afraid of a little hard work and you're resourceful it shouldn't be that expensive. I poured an 18x24 pad for less than $400. Dont forget about the loco ordinance. His father would have apply for either a permit or a variance to lay the pad
Put a GT 500 engine in it!
I am 14 and i am going to start a c10
you almost wanna wear a helmet messing with those springs.
Love the ban idiots not guns shirt
Craig,
There is no "T" in across.
