He's a Legend yes, but everything that's mainstream is trash and has been for years. I remember back in the first half of the 10's when both mainstream art and indie art was good quality. Now mainstream has utterly gone to shit and only indie art still has high quality products here and there. Its like the entire mainstream art world was taken over by people with no talent...hmmm...perhaps for ideological reasons?

    • @icecoldpolitics8890
      @icecoldpolitics8890 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@StarboyXL9 It's called corporatization. It's not an ideological cause as you are suggesting. The majority of major productions these days are owned by major corporations not small or medium sized studios movies like back in those days. Corporations are the major producers in hollywood now and the result is that rather then movies needing heart and sole necessarily behind them in order for the ideas to be brought to fruition it is instead about investors trying to find the most easily successful projects to cash in and make money. It's why you get so many remakes because theoretically and in a boardroom it makes sense but in reality pulling off a good reboot/remake takes time and dedication to understand the original product. The problem with Hollywood isn't ideology it's that it's all become apart of a small group of corporations like disney and Warner Brothers who only care about making money first and are afraid to try anything. Indy movies need to be unique and bring interesting ideas to succeed, while major productions have marketing campaigns and long standing franchises to deal with this is why monopolies are bad for innovation they don't need to change to make money they can rely on established products.

"snarl" it off. No pausing, no resting, just a little tilt of the head and keep moving forward towards the problem. You can almost see the dirty look the Marine gives the thing at 8:33. No matter that they have no idea what this thing is or how dangerous it is, it's delaying them from doing their jobs and serving their Emperor.

That's not relentless, that's basic survival instinct and VERY good training. If you pause, you die. That's not even implants or anything, that's literary can be achieved only solely by training.
What that series has done superb is showing professionals. No fancy heraldry, no absent helmets, no melee combat just for the sake of it, no glory hogging, no fancy rare weapons, no separation of "main protagonist and expendable extras". And the opposition is also acting professionally, preparing killzones, using antimateriel rifles, magnetic mines and all they can.

Removing a bunch of frames and molesting half of the remainder with motion blur didn't help either.
It also seemed to be sped up quite a bit, I'm not sure if it was some half arsed attempt to make the marines look faster but it completely ruined the deliberate, relentless feel of the original. Especially with the sound changes.
They seemed determined to leave their mark on every aspect of it so we couldn't forget for a moment that GW was responsible for the video, and therefor ruining it in the process.
So mission accomplished I guess? It certainly looks more like the crap they put out, although on the higher end admittedly.
One thing that did catch my eye was that they made it easier to see the marine's optics after his lens cracked which was interesting to see, but I'm not sure if it was an overall improvement and was probably just due to the increased brightness.
I think this is the first time I've seen this version all the way through, it's certainly the last.@@weediestbroom

@@andrew5207 The first gold stud may represent this marine's first century of service which is impressive and deserving of a gold service stud. The two silver studs may represent two periods of possibly 50 years of service for each stud, or less, we don't know. Both of those silver studs may represent 10 years of service and are less important than the first hundred since surviving a century in the 40k galaxy is an impressive feat. Of course, what service studs represent varies by chapter and some chapters don't have them which is good for Dante of the Blood Angels since he has been a Space Marine for more than a thousand years and does not need service studs to remind him of that fact.

Just the way this scene plays out is an absolute masterpiece of action film-making. Every single scene tells you more and more about the brutal, cold efficiency of a Space Marine. The Astartes project is based off of the Warhammer: 40,000 (or 40k for short) universe. The Astartes (or Space Marines) are bio-engineered super warriors that serve and protect The Imperium of Man, a vast galaxy spanning human empire 40,000 years in the future. In this video, the astartes of this specific faction were hunting down the leaders of a rebellion against the Imperium. What they found was that the rebels were under the control of an unknown, psychic alien species (the spheres).
The guy in the red coat was something called a psyker, a powerful psychic individual who was able to listen in on the telepathic conversations of the spheres. The red coat with the skull in the middle of the capitol "I" meant that he was also a member of the God-Emperor's Holy Inquisition, the most powerful organization within the Imperium. He became possessed when he lost focus to warn the Astartes about what he had heard and said "Withdraw them immediately!" . In case you're wondering what the spheres said to each other, here it is:
Sphere 1: "Brother, I have failed."
Sphere 2: "We have all failed."
Sphere 1: "The Astartes deny our touch."
Sphere 2: "You must return, break your seal"
Sphere 1: "Impossible! We will never survive"
Sphere 2: "You must. Take them!"
The Warhammer 40k universe is VAST and deep with practically mountains of lore. It is arguably the greatest sci-fi universe ever created. You guys will not be disappointed in learning more about it. Welcome to the rabbit hole, brothers.
Another thing some people also miss, at the end when he's standing on the pillars, in the distance when you see all the giant skeletons, you can see other flashes of lights of the other marines teleport in the same area as the one we saw

I think you can really feel the difference of the music at 10:17, if you re-watch it on TH-cam the original's version of Astartes music hits so much harder and has so much to offer at least in that scene. This appears incomplete. The wide shot of the pulse pistol shooting through the smoke in corridor is mirrored from original and they skip the handoff of the distributing of the inhibitors that the marines plunge into the orb. That latter shot has had high praise from other animators due to the technicality of the object interactions.
Music in original is better and the Warhammer logo at the beginning was not part of the original.

@@ChompStudio What makes it especially great is just how much the creator gets right, lore wise. Most 40k games and media tend to generalize a lot of stuff, or forgot/gloss over things, but this guy get's the lore spot on. The bolter rounds are a perfect example of this, a lot of times they're treated as just large caliber rounds, but in this he treats them as rockets, and shows us clearly when they hit the shields. You can actually see that they're still trying to propel themselves as they hit the tk barrier and stop dead, then a few seconds later, they all explode as they reach the end of their fuse time. Anyone else would probably have just had them all explode upon impact and be done with.
It's these kinds of touches that really show off how much care and attention was put into the whole production, and there's tons of things like this throughout. If you know 40k, you pick up on new things every time you see it.

Shooting the Psyker (the word used about psychic people in 40k) would not have been enough. He was going through a possession, which in 40k is *BAD*
a possession can lead to any number of things, from a single demon forcing its way into our world, to a tear in reality, letting demons and chaos energies flow freely into our realm. Their reaction was, if anything, quite underwhelming and only the bare minimum needed to "secure" the individual from causing more harm with their demise. The psyker was already dead when he was grabbed, he just didn't know it.
and indeed, he is battleworn. the studs on his forehead is an indicator of years of service. silver stud means 10 years, gold stud equals 50 or 100 years, depending on the chapter. So this marine has seen either 70, or 120 years of active service on the battlefields of the Emperor.

For the scene with the guy chanting before getting punched, he was SCREAMING those chants at above human levels to be heard that well through the mask.

Space Marines essentially have impeccable aim, and once they've spotted a target its almost impossible for them to miss the only caveat being the distance their weapons can fire. They are also on average over 7 feet tall outside of their armor and weigh well over 600 lbs. by themselves.

I find it sad but amusing that GW still can't depict their own IP accurately according to the lore. Every time I see an Astartes depicted by GW I can't help but compare it to how Astartes are depicted here and feel "nah, not my Astartes!".

They're big, they're absurdly fast for their size (gota have that Transhuman Dread in there), they are efficient, accurate, precise. They don't need to bandy about with words, or start monologuing or be over dramatic about shit. They're here to do a job; get in, secure the ship, eliminate all threats, secure the asset. They have a mission and nothing is going to slow them down for even a second.

They are definitely the miniatures I paint the most, and when I apply highlights I keep it pretty simple and imagine there is a single light source directly above each model. This saves me time while also really accentuates the prominent features of the armour, especially the helmet. That's why they immediately and brutally murked him, cause if you don't catch that sort of thing early, who knows how strong the resulting daemon could be? Especially considering how strong these Orb entities seem to be, it could have been a Greater Daemon which would have ripped the whole ship apart, as good as these Astartes are, if that guy was taken over by something like a Lord of Change or other high ranking Tzeentchian demon (cause this is almost certainly some Tzeentch shit) there would have been very little they could have done about it. To your critique about the ending with the other marines being teleported in while your eye is actually being drawn to the landscape up above, I do tend to agree with you. This version is slightly different from the original as the original had different music with bass hits when each guy was teleported in. However, even when I watched that version originally I didn’t notice it at first because I was also taking in the landscape and how detailed and megalithic it feels. It wasn’t until I got in the comments that I saw it mentioned and had to catch it on a rewatch where I noticed that the drum hits of the music coincided with each teleport.
That all being said, this genuinely feels like an opening sequence of a movie. We get introduced to this squad and as we go through we just have more and more questions. If this was a movie then I’d assume it would pick up with this squad in the new area trying to figure out what those orbs were and what the orbs were trying to do, where they are now, and how they’re going to get back to where they came from. Other questions are things like who were the guys with the psychic powers and what were they doing with the orbs, what’s that giant human-like thing they were in the process of building, what was their goal, etc… Overall this is just an excellent setup and intro for the beginning of a movie and I think most who’ve seen it would agree with me. I’m not big into 40k, I only know the basics about the universe and lore, but I’d totally watch a feature length movie built off of this as long as the kept the guy who created it at the helm because he clearly has an exceptional understanding of the 40k universe, and how to tell a story in it. I don’t think it would work as well if it were live action either.
Hopefully GE has got him running his own team creating something big because as far as I’m aware nothing else like this has come out since they hired him. If they don’t then they’re wasting an incredible talent and potential gold mine. I know animated films take a long time to make, and it took him 4 years to make this by himself, so I could understand it taking many years to make a full movie even with a full team to back him. Either way, what he created is a masterpiece and I’m glad he and it are getting the credit they deserve.

Warhammer+ I would say is not worth it and scummy. Before it came out they put a ban on any fans making any animations as it would be a threat to them, they barely released anything during the weekly drops, and you could tell it was done with little passion or had higher ups interfering in it only seeing costs and profits. The stuff they released was nothing compared to the fan animations. It always feels like Games Workshop is at war with their fanbase because anytime we like something they strip it away, chop away what we liked about it, and then try to sell it back to us at a premium price. Also you can tell their views of the community with how the TH-cam page has comments disabled, and apparently any negative comments on other sites are deleted.

The boarding craft being used is called a Caestus Assault Ram, which can hold a full squad of tactical Marines and uses twin-linked Magna Meltas (huge microwave cannons) to literally melt a hole in the target ship's hull. The other method Astartes use to board ships is using boarding torpedoes, where they will literally strap themselves into an empty torpedo casing and get shot at the enemy ship, piercing the hull and disgorging it's payload. A squad of Space Marines boarding a ship like this is enough to disrupt their ability to fight back in ship-to-ship combat, and can make the difference when outnumbered/outgunned.
Psykers, of which those two gold face dudes are, are beings with psychic abilities. They have a mutation that allows them to tap into the chaotic energies of the Immaterium (aka the Warp) and manifest it through sheer will into our world, the Materium. This comes with some very pronounced dangers, as the Warp is also home to daemons and other malevolent emotional entities, who can find these psykers as they use the Warp energies and can possess their minds, making them able to manifest in the real world (usually by mutating the unfortunate psyker's body into their own).
This is a very, VERY big deal and Imperial psykers are heavily regulated and watched. An entire sect of psyker wardens, the Sisters of Silence, keep them in check since they have the 'null' gene, which makes them emit an anti-psychic field around them. The assassins of the Culexus Temple in the Officio Assassinorum are trained to use this Pariah gene as a weapon, causing psykers intense, excruciating pain and often times death.
This is why the Captain on the strike cruiser immediately crushes the Inquisitor's helm and his compatriot fills him full of bolter rounds. Even one daemon getting a foothold in the real world can take out a company of Astartes (I'm looking at you, Ignatius Grulgor).

I give credit to Syama Pedersen, creating a compelling story with no dialogue is not an easy thing to do. Power of story telling!

I've watched the astartes video several times and watched a bunch of reactions to it (thanks algorithm) and this is the first time someone spotted the others being teleported onto the other pillars at the end. Great catch there because I've also missed it every single time.

I love the part in the beginning where the Marine is consecrating/blessing his weapon with those beads - gives a cool visual foreshadowing to a religious/supernatural aspect to what's happening in the 40k universe.
Subbed cus your reactions are really good xD - the part where the guy ran into the knife OOOOOOF

Quite a work of art, isn't it? Excellent comments, you touched on just about everything that impressed me watching this that a lot of folks seem to miss.

Wild that you noticed the teleport in. I always thought he was on the ground. Being separated on the large pillars casts a new light on the ending.

I've watched astartes many times and youre the only person who has ever noticed the teleportation of the team mates at the end. Your comment about the scenery itself distracting from the action at the bottom of the frame is 100% accurate in my specific case. Cool, I am happy the dude didnt end up by himself there seeing as we are never getting an ending to that storyline.

Possibly my favourite thing about this is that the guy who made it has such a good use of sound to portray focus
When the Space Marine is held in place by the psyker after trying to stab the other psyker's neck, sound is dulled and quiet as the psyker focuses on holding the space marine in place with bootsteps in the distance, only to snap back to full volume the moment he notices the space marine sprinting at him
When the space marines are approaching the orb, the sound dulls out again and is replaced by whispering before going back to full volume when he snaps out of it
The same applies for when he's standing right in front of the orb, the sound is muted again as the orb takes his full attention, only for his brother to come up beside him and again, snap him out of his trance with the full volume audio returning
    Absolutely love it!

Other note I love on the audio, if you listen closely, the inquisitor (red cloaked guy) shouts "Recall the Astartes immediately" before he's possessed with the captain signalling the other marine to give the orders to the boarding party (space marines have communications in their helms so people other than them can't hear them speak unless they want them to)
Then when it cuts back to the boarding party around the orb, the boarding party's leader receives the orders (which is why his head is turned away, he's listening to comms) just before they get pulled against the orb

Someone did a video explaining every detail about the 5 episodes. They said that not only it was amazingly animated but also it is attempted to be as lore accurate as it can be.

I really hope that guy was hired to work on a warhammer show with the same design.
