  • In this video we are getting all of our does ready for breeding season. We first have to put out all of our feed troughs. We are officially one month away from breeding and its time to start nutritionally flushing our does. This means that we are going to increase the amount of nutrition that they are consuming one month prior to adding the bucks in. We will feed 1/2 a pound of feed per head for two weeks. We will the increase that to 1 pound of feed per head for another two weeks. We will then add the bucks in. They will be on feed for an additional month so that they are receiving extra nutrients for at least two breeding cycles. We will then lower the amount of feed for a few months and bump it back up a month before kidding.
This will hopefully allow the does to have a stronger estrus cycle and increase our kidding rate. This will also allow them to have healthier pregnancy.
The following link is will show that this practice is proven to work.

What should the percentage of ingredients needed for flushing?

Increasing the nutrition in anyway before breeding is considered flushing. In our situation we don’t feed grain until we flush the does, so that sudden increase in nutrition will cause them to hopefully drop more eggs increasing the chances for twins. This can also be done in a grass fed operation by giving them your best pasture or feeding high quality hay.

I prefer 6”. I have used bigger but the goats tend to not stand in the 6” as much.
