That tool is whatthey used to use to "punch" train tickets with when rail companies used to employ actual people to check tickets.
It's also used to notch sewing patterns.
I know you have this whole self deprecating bit that's probably only half serious, but you make amazing stuff. This is by far my favorite channel.

It's already a Shephard's tone, tho it would be more convincing with more octaves maybe.
It made my real cats go wild, too. From across the room they ran to all the windows to watch and wait and nothing ever came. 😅
I know Bill doesn’t want to hear this, but today’s Bot might be my favorite… It’s colorful and I really love the layers of armor plating and the triangular face plate looked really cool. I like all the builds, don’t get me wrong, but I’m a sucker for today’s pretty shiny one.

I'm a carpenter by trade...when it comes to cutting straight lines, you need to cut along a straight line...I think a metal ruler would be perfect for a guilde for your scalpel.
Watching you make little bots out of bit and pieces and having them turn out so gorgeous is such a pleasure. It makes me want to go to a charity shop and start pawing through craft supplies.
The tool you didn't know the purpose/name of if meant to create notches. Once upon a time they were used to punch train tickets, but if your tool looks new, it was likely made for punching out the registration marks on sewing patterns, extremely useful little tool if you handle any kind of flat paper pattern actually.
Bill, I really hope you publish your sketch book (s). I'd love a copy of it. I collect nice books like the leather bound facsimiles of old illuminated manuscripts etc, and your book would be something id love to add to my collection. Please consider this. I'm sure that a large number of people would like a copy like me. I spend a long time pausing each page when you flip through it, but there's nothing like holding a copy in your hands and leafing through the pages.

This episode is the one in this series I was most interested in! It feels like a new aspect/faction you are showing us! The idea of wealth and refined construction feels so enjoyably contrasting to a lot of the world of the Gutterlands we have seen so far!

The Upper-bot is my second favorite. Nothing beats the OG Bead-bot!
i've been looking forward to seeing an Upper build from Bill. I reckon you nailed it, the lobstered plate and garish blue paintjob is perfect for those pompous ristos.
This bot looks great! Very nice work.
Ive stuck eva foam on my kids the look better now ..next up a oil wash and crustard
that tool as a pattern notcher it is used by tailors and dressmakers to mark there pattern pieces with where they connect to the next pattern piece. then when cutting out the fabric you mark where the notches are so that when you are sewing you can check you havent stretched one piece of fabric or they havent become misalligned under the sewing machine.
My copy of Bangarang turned up the other day. It's a great read and i can't wait to make the bots and have no one to play it with coz i'm an antisocial old git

That weird hole puncher is for making clothes' and props' paper patterns. The hole it punches are, when traced, the registration marks that are used to align two adjencent parts of the pattern together ^^

Dang that came out great! The four completed bots look really cool together. You can really get a sense for their unique styles when they’re standing next to each other.
I’m excited for the terrain build and battle report videos.
Also if you ever want to explore the EVA foam Upper aesthetic more, it would be cool to do a small Upper spaceship. Like a rich kid’s flashy car that their parents bought for them

Hey Bill! I happen to love your upper bot!
You kept talking about how it wasn't 100% perfect, and that's why you were dreading making this.
In my mind, even though it's an upper, it's still being created on a backwater junk planet, so slight imperfections (even if perfection was the creators end goal) would still be an inevitability.
They'd probably still be resorting to using some hand tools and the like. So I look at every slight imperfection as a sort of personalized creative signature, each particular richy-rich uses based on the tools they have access to.
TL.DR - build good. Fits world well.

...I'm pretty sure that hole punch thing is for marking cats ears so that they can identified at a distance as having been "fixed"...could come in handy...
The Upperbot turned out really nice. It would be nice to see these in other colours. They'd almost be like nascar, hideously bright paint jobs and advertising.
Might be nice to try a gloss coat on the paintwork too.
They've all been great but the Upper is my favourite (hope that doesn't say something about me)
The “thing” is a nudge cutter, pattern makers and tailors use them.
This build turned out super clean, love the contrast between the different factions! The different amount of eyes was a great call!
That quartet of bots look great Mr Making Stuff, really distinctive from one another. Also, if you're looking to get another pet now Cat has gone I found a bag of till roll kittens down by the canal the other day. They look sweet, but the language on 'em!?! They swear like a docker. Please take 'em off my hands.

The unidentified punch tool is a Notch cutter for pattern making. Used a lot in foam smithing...and sewing. 😁

For some cheap bases Oriental Trading has plastic coins that are 1 1/2" diameter which would be 40mm or so. Check the clearance section for the best price. I got some that had a zia symbol in them(native american cross logo - see New Mexico flag) I figure this would help show the front/sides/back easier. I don't know if Oriental Trading sells/ships outside of the USA.

They make small magnets with holes in them. Might be easier because you could thread them onto armature wire

And you’re right, you could perfectly make cool gundam beadbots with just bids, wire, and eva foam...
As for the big bot bash, one of the hardest things for me was keeping close to the 60mm x 40mm scale...

the dominoes as doors is a great idea cuz that way you can make consistenly sized ones across multiple structures, disguised in different ways
The first Guyver movie wasn't so bad, it had great makeup and monster designs. And a small cameo by Linnea Quigley is fun. To hit three eyes, you definitely need a trident for close combat or a three-barrelled shotgun, or better yet, both.
I look forward to Bill's euphonious voice in every video. Loving the content and trying to convince my gaming pals to make bead bots. Please keep your unique brand of British bangarang bugling boisterously Bill.

Funny how with the EVA build, botboy looked like a beefed up Protoss initially until you painted him and made it a Guyver. He's got a good contrast to the others, being all slick and crabby like that. I'd seal that hole in the wall too, next thing you know you'll get more CAT than you expect.

I really like how this upper turned out and the colours you chose to paint it worked out very well too.
I had to laugh about you saying you'd asked your wife about adding rivets to everything around your house, as my daughter and I have considered doing very much that, 'greeblying' and rusting everything! I think you need to get a dog to replace cat, or perhaps a tame rat.

awesome episode as always, one point of improvement tho, the music ducker (that makes the music go down as you speak) needs a longer hold/attack time. When you speak with short pauses inbetween words/sentences, it's quite jarring when the music goes up and down like a rollercoaster
