An easy way to use butter when it is cold is to grate it. That makes it small enough that you can then cream it or blend with your other ingredients. Also, you’re using an older cookbook printed back before flour was as finely milled as it is today. Rarely would you need to sift flour nowadays.
Y’all are so cute baking together. A word of advice. I’d be getting the insulation and drywall done before baby comes. All the dust won’t be good for it’s lungs.
If you happen to find a metal slow cooker insert it while thrifting it will work nicely for additing humidity atop the wood stove. I keep one on a cast iron trivet and it works well. The treats look delicious!!
PS: A pie pan (the old style tin ones are best but any will work) flipped over on your stove top is a perfect place to keep soup, coffee, etc. warm all day without boiling it.
How are you guys liking the stove? Cool to be learning some cooking on it and great making treats. I bet the cabin smells good when your cooking on it.! How do you both feel about your skills with the stove now? Learning how it draws, keeping coals all Night, heat from different types wood, etc.. let us all know sometime how that's going. I can remember a video in beginning how it was Cody first experience with wood stove. Are you guys pros yet? Baby bump looks great! Everything going good with pregnancy? Will there be a gender reveal? Or a surprise? Happy New Year- Diana
We’ve both been feeling much more confident with our wood stove managing skills. It’s gotten very easy to manage through the day and night. Baby is going to be a surprise! Everyone will have to wait - including us - to find out 😊
I think your right Lori Cody what an awesome young man helping your wife out You two are a great team Now I must admit little envious of those plates of treats they loom scrumptious delicious
I’m very excited of how you, sir are a very hard worker. Your wife doesn’t appear to enjoy where she’s at or what it’s gonna take. A word of thought. My family was born and raised in Alaska. She needs to be more social with her neighbors be friendly with the people around you Socialize because they’re the ones that are going to be of great help and lesson your Load in a mighty way.
Hi there happy holiday and most of all happy New year to you both for 2024 you really have achieved an awful lot this year you seem a lot happier together and when the baby arrived well it's just gonna be wonderful.oh and I love your Scandinavian recipes good luck God bless🎅🎅⛄⛄⛄🎄🎄🎆🎇🎈🎈🎉👍👍👍.❤
3M makes a black grill pad (like a very stiff coarse green pad) that makes cleaning a grill or stove top quick and easy. There is also a handle to hold it so you can really press down. Happy New Year! Enjoy the warm cabin.
Baking is a science lol! I took culinary school and exact measurements are essential for a good recipe turnout! Good job! Pastry cream would make a great addition to your little tarts!
Thanks for showing the making of the treats! My Norwegian Grandma used to make sandbakkels and rosettes, and the rosettes are my favorite also!! She make other things but because she spoke Norwegian I don't know the correct name or spelling. It's so good to see young people making these yummy treats!! I'm almost 70 and it's rare these days that anyone younger has even heard of them. So happy you are both doing well!! Looking forward to new videos and the coming baby!! God Bless and Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year! You guys the desserts look awesome . Great job. Its awesome seeing you both work together in your kitchen. Its hard living in a home and building it at the same time. I did that in my younger years and man oh man it was tough. But yall hang in there your doing great together. Stay warm and safe.God bless you all.
I enjoy watching you both cooking and learning. I’m learning from you both. Great video guys. You both use what you have and make it work. 👏👏👏👏I’m laughing you guys are so adorable and funny. Reminds me of me and my husband when we first married ❤❤❤impressive job
Happy New Year, Lori, Cody and Irie. What a bake off! That was awesome. Good team work once again, with Irie making sure nothing goes to waste ❤. Those treats will be great for cold winters day with coffee. After 2 days of measuring, mixing, fixing batter, lining moulds, baking and cooking. Now I know what Lori meant when she said “it’s tedious”. One needs a family of 6 to make these treats - hint, hint 😊 May 2024 be another funtastic year with the new addition to the family. Love and blessings from an avid 🇦🇺 fan.
Would you mind sharing the recipes and the presses you used. I love how they all looked and turned out ❤️ I hope that you both have a wonderful New Year!!
Thanks for taking all the time, to treat us to some delicious sounding treats. Where were they be transported via snowmachine? Lucky recipients!! Was the Warriors sweat shirt from Wisconsin Lutheran College? We enjoyed the baking class, but Barb and I think Irie stoled the show. We laughed when Cody was trying so hard to balance the treat on Iries head. Cool doggie! 🤣🤣 Have a nice New Years Eve and all the best in 2024 as you wait for the blessed event.🙏🙏
I’m not sure if it’s a strictly Alaskan thing, even in our house back in Wisconsin the floors were always done last. That way we are not dropping or scuffing up the new flooring while working on the rest of the elements of the house.
What is the green thing on the back of the couch with a small antenna. I didn't know you had a stove now I'm happy u have many regular comforts to cook on! Does the solar power run all of those things alone. You kids have made a nice comfy home for yourselves. Very proud of you! When it's finished it will be wonderful. But finishing isn't totally necessary right now. do things as u can. U are a great team. Happy new year.. mama you look wonderful..I think its a girl!❤ beautiful plate of treats!
The green thing is a radio, and the stove we converted to run on propane. The fridge, mixer, and deep fryer take a lot of power. We were able to get through it all but had to charge back up with the generator when we finished.
Very interesting. The cookbook was your aunt’s or from your ant, do you have Scandia heritage? I am making my way through your journey and the first time you used that specialty iron I thought I recognised it, but decided it was a coincidence. But now I had to check and it was what I thought it was. In southern Jytland (Denmark) that iron is used for a cookie known as ‘Gode råd’ meaning good advice.
Labor of love is right but done on a wood stove is priceless. Great show tonight.

I'm going to use this tip myself. Thanyou for sharing-Diana
This should be a yearly tradition!
I missed seeing Cody riding on the snowmobile . In SC we don't often get snow so i enjoy seeing you playing in the snow .
Happy New Year .

You are blessed to have each other. You make a good couple. Keep having fun where you can. I love the energy you put into your treats.

With all the butter that it calls for, you should refirdgerate the dough for rollong out.
You love sweets… ❤

Happy New Year, Lori, Cody and Irie.

Would you mind sharing the recipes and the presses you used. I love how they all looked and turned out ❤️
I hope that you both have a wonderful New Year!!
The irons were made by Norwegian company Jotul, before they transitioned to only wood stoves.
The deserts are rosette, krumkake, sandbakkel, and goro.
Happy New Year!
I ❤ watching y'all hope you had a good christmas and enjoy each other for new years 🎉🎉🎉
Happy new year! That’s a nice healthy baby bump 😊💕

👍❤❤🤗
Try using a flan pressed down on top to make the cookies thinner and even.
Happy New years guys and see you in 2024
Seems like almost everyone that builds a cabin in Alaska does the floors last, just wondered why??? Great video!! 😊
I’m not sure if it’s a strictly Alaskan thing, even in our house back in Wisconsin the floors were always done last. That way we are not dropping or scuffing up the new flooring while working on the rest of the elements of the house.
@@remotelifealaska that makes perfect sense ☺️

It can be bought on Amazon. It is made by Universal Housewares.

Love you're dog.😁But I'm a dog person. Hi from Colorado Springs 😀

Lori has a Norwegian heritage and the recipes are handed down from a few generations on her side.
Chill the dough to firm up before rolling
You should try some filling in the cookies
when you fold whipped cream what you are doing makes the mix very light and airy from whip cream
Buy black stove polish you will not regret it.
Melting the butter is why it's so this. Needs to be room temp or grated as the statement before
Is there a filling that needs to go into the cones you made?? I've never seen that treat before.
We use to fill the krumkaka with whipped cream with cloudberries. This is a delicious Norwegian tradition ☺️
We’ve always eaten them plain but might have to try some different fillings next time we make them
I think you need a dough hook
PLEASE TURN YOUR CC ON.
