Saving weight on a smaller battery has many benefits, efficiency, low cost, faster charging, makes a lot of sense for a performance model like this one. Unintuitively lightweight EVs effectively charge faster because the battery doesn't need extra power to carry itself which results is less time spent charging overall. You don't need a huge battery unless your charging network where you live is bad.

Simulating engine noise with accurate torque response is a very fun, video game-like idea that takes electric cars in a playful direction. I wish that Hyundai fully leaned into the video game customization angle and added extra downloadable "performance profiles" like a "Stuttgart flat 6" or "Maranello v12".

Considering over 60% of EVs in the US are Teslas, and given they sell 50% of new EVs now, most is a very inaccurate word. I mean when you factor in the range to see "miles added per hour" this car is among the worst.

I don’t hate EVs at all, I actually really like them, but there hasn’t been one that I’ve ever wanted to own (aside from the Taycan or Lucid Air Sapphire but that’s expensive). This particular car is so appealing to me, and I couldn’t care less about if it had sound or not, I just want a fun car to drive. Seeing fun EVs like this or the incorporation of hybrid into popular cars makes it way more appealing than it’s been before. Edit: The “supersonic” sound reminds me of the weird and whacky cars that the Ridge Racer games would have. This car seems like a video game car in real life, which is so cool to me. I can see some getting extremely mad at it.
Test drive the new Model 3 performance. As a former Hellcat owner, that is the most driver focused car south of 60G I have ever driven. Power, handling, comfort, and range are amazing, but the sound system and adaptive suspension make it feel like a luxury version of an Lotus but with a cavernous cockpit. Ha, cavernous cockpit. Would make for a good yo mamma joke.

I do like the X, it seems the most useful in my opinion. Hyundai and Genesis have been killing it lately to be honest.

Hyundai definitely excels in fast charging, especially with the 350 charge ports. Even with the 150, it manages to hit up to 200 watts. It’s crucial to thoroughly research charging times. So yeah the review is lacking on some research on what he discussed.

The idea of this in the future is beyond exciting. Imagine being able to fully customize power delivery to mimic whatever kind of power or drivetrain layout you want. RWD, FWD, AWD, Turbo, Supercharger, NA, engine size, cylinder count, ect. I don’t ever want combustion engines going away but electric cars have the ability to be utterly incredible
I've tested this car twice because it's just such an insane car. The whole thing is something that everyone needs to test to actually understand how much fun it is to drive. If I had the money I'd buy one today, without hesitation
Agreed, I own one and am really happy with it. I would take this over my fathers C8 corvette any day. Its luxury when you want it and a super car when you want it, and a full size SUV. The visibility is better than any other car I have driven and that is really important to me also.

I've driven two Model 3's (one LR and one performance) probably 3 years ago and I was bored in both. I don't know how anyone can find an EV appealing and fun to drive. One dude says he'll take the N over a C8 any day....man I'd take a BRZ, hell even a Miata over this.

Technically it makes sense Hyundai moves towards EV in full capacity and makes all oriented cars as they can. When their ICE cars have tons of problems that they still can't solve till this day. Moving to EV solves that problem by miles. Meanwhile, German cars are still packing ICE because they still desirable. I think they have nothing to worry about.

Rob Dahm got to drive this on track at Leguna Seca, and the 'N' driving dynamics along with the design (suspension, aero, etc.), seemed to make a big difference. Even the sound for that additional feedback lol. The designer even mentioned that they use the brake regen system to help control body roll weight transfer, so it's cool they are still putting as much N racing DNA into an EV as possible.
Yea, the only other cars that can beat this car are in six figures. Taycan GT, Lucid Saphire, and maybe the Model S Plaid. Cammisa said there is no SUV/crossover can beat this. Including the Urus Performante.
Playing back recorded sound from the speaker does not convey how well the sound is during a drive. I recommend giving it a go. The sound is still digital and you can tell by the nuances, but the simulation hits all the right spots so your brain stops focusing on how the sound is made and starts focusing on utilisation for cues and feedback. You will forget it is digital on your first lap on track. Also I kinda like that it has a digital touch to it, brings some nostalgia from good old racing games.
Fun fact: the manual seats are so that you can sit lower. And still have heated *and* ventilated seats. Esp the latter turned out to a lot better then I expected, and it was a nice touch while I sat next to Misha on the Nurbürgring

I want a car that is smart enough to not require me to be constantly pushing buttons and knobs. I hardly touch the screen on my Tesla except for maps. Climate I set the temperature and rarely change it, but it's easy enough to change via screen or voice command.
@@livolas My Tesla knows it's me and automatically adjusts mirrors, steering wheel, temperature, and other preferences. I set it all once and don't have to touch it. This is true when I bought a second Tesla. All the settings transferred automatically.
@@tsh4k but the thing is you don't always want the same settings. When it's a chilly day, you set it up a bit higher. The opposite for hotter days. And it's not like all cars dont maintain the same temperature. If i set mine to a certain temperature, it stays so till the end of time. The important thing is flexibility and ease of adjustment.
I've fallen in love with this car during the last couple of weeks. It's really cool, great performance (not great range though) and some pretty cool, extra features.
What they should do is make a marketplace where people can get tuned cars. Would be sick if you can download the F40 and have your sound gearbox and engine handle like that.

Tried one and it's hillarious. And the pumped in sound, is SO much better live than any YT video can convey. If I had the money, I would pick up one of those babies today. And my guess is, put it in Normal- or Eco-mode and drive like a sane person, you would get OK range.
Fun fact! The N division at Hyundai was run by the former head of BMW's M Division, Albert Biermann from 2015-2022. He's retired but stayed on as a technical advisor. He's the reason why Hyundai has serious performance creds these days.

I'm a big fan of the Ioniq 5N. My EV6 GT is it's sister car (which I do prefer the looks and features like the HUD that aren't in the US-spec I5N). But the tech in the Ioniq 5N to get it to simulate a gas vehicle experience is pretty neat. That said, I'm not sure how much I'd use it.

A lot of the great stuff of the N-series is thanks to Albert Biermann who unfortunately will retire end of this year (at least I think). When he took over the performance department at Hyundai he put them on the map as an affordable alternative (especially) to the German and American hatchbacks (especially in Germany the Ford Focus and Fiesta are quite popular, and so are their ST/RS variants) with focus on driver enjoyment. He will be missed for sure!

Like any sport, timing is important. The noises and feedback to the driver allow them to time their actions around a track. If a car is too quiet and smooth, you lose this feedback; negatively impacting the driver's performance. While it may seem like a gimmick, for racers on the track, this feedback is important.

This is a really cool take on an EV. Only complaint is that the pitch changes in the engine noise are not smooth in the slightest so it just sounds like a laggy racing game. They need to interpolate it for it to sound more realistic.
You're right, I think they are only updating the pitch at 30hz which is why you can hear the choppy pitch changes. Some early versions of Forza were like that too

The idea of this in the future is beyond exciting. Imagine being able to fully customize power delivery to mimic whatever kind of power or drivetrain layout you want. RWD, FWD, AWD, Turbo, Supercharger, NA, engine size, cylinder count, ect. I don’t ever want combustion engines going away but electric cars have the ability to be utterly incredible
I hope they don't make everything a subscription in the future. If they do, EVs can go to hell.

I've tested this car twice because it's just such an insane car. The whole thing is something that everyone needs to test to actually understand how much fun it is to drive. If I had the money I'd buy one today, without hesitation
Agreed, I own one and am really happy with it. I would take this over my fathers C8 corvette any day. Its luxury when you want it and a super car when you want it, and a full size SUV.
The visibility is better than any other car I have driven and that is really important to me also.

@@BEAST.420G I can fit in the back, 5 full sized office chairs side by side with the seats down. This is SUV style room. Just look at other super cars with similar handling and performance, you couldn't even fit 1 office chair.
Most don't realize just how big the Ioniq 5 is.
I've driven two Model 3's (one LR and one performance) probably 3 years ago and I was bored in both. I don't know how anyone can find an EV appealing and fun to drive. One dude says he'll take the N over a C8 any day....man I'd take a BRZ, hell even a Miata over this.

Hyundai/KIA are really making some of the most interesting "German" design vehicles.
Technically it makes sense Hyundai moves towards EV in full capacity and makes all oriented cars as they can. When their ICE cars have tons of problems that they still can't solve till this day. Moving to EV solves that problem by miles. Meanwhile, German cars are still packing ICE because they still desirable. I think they have nothing to worry about.

Yeah except at the end of the day all the imitation is behind a Hyundai. They are quite possibly the least reliable cheap vehicles out there.
I’m sorry but you said it takes a long time to charge it does not it charges from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. When I charge my car, I usually plug it in and leave before Chevy EUV, BMW i4, and Mach GT. I've driven my brother's Tesla Model Y, and even that takes 30-40 minutes to reach 80%. Hyundai definitely charges fast, especially with the 350 charge ports. Even with the 150, it somehow reaches up to 200 watts. It's important to do your research on charging times.
This thing holds up better on the track than the new Porsche Taycan facelift.

The most exciting EV out there. Amazing driving experience and looks badass! The people who worked on it are driving fanatics
Rob Dahm got to drive this on track at Leguna Seca, and the 'N' driving dynamics along with the design (suspension, aero, etc.), seemed to make a big difference. Even the sound for that additional feedback lol. The designer even mentioned that they use the brake regen system to help control body roll weight transfer, so it's cool they are still putting as much N racing DNA into an EV as possible.

Playing back recorded sound from the speaker does not convey how well the sound is during a drive. I recommend giving it a go. The sound is still digital and you can tell by the nuances, but the simulation hits all the right spots so your brain stops focusing on how the sound is made and starts focusing on utilisation for cues and feedback. You will forget it is digital on your first lap on track. Also I kinda like that it has a digital touch to it, brings some nostalgia from good old racing games.
Fun fact: the manual seats are so that you can sit lower. And still have heated *and* ventilated seats. Esp the latter turned out to a lot better then I expected, and it was a nice touch while I sat next to Misha on the Nurbürgring

Car companies. Please listen: WE WANT PHYSICAL BUTTONS FOR MUSIC AND CLIMATE CONTROLS. not touch screen. Not capacitive buttons. Real clicks and knobs!!! That way you don’t have to look away from the road to find the correct control! You can feel it!

I want a car that is smart enough to not require me to be constantly pushing buttons and knobs. I hardly touch the screen on my Tesla except for maps. Climate I set the temperature and rarely change it, but it's easy enough to change via screen or voice command.
@@tsh4kcars cant guess your needs. Voice or screen are clunky and slow by comparison. A knob is the most direct and easy way to fulfil your need.
@@livolas My Tesla knows it's me and automatically adjusts mirrors, steering wheel, temperature, and other preferences. I set it all once and don't have to touch it. This is true when I bought a second Tesla. All the settings transferred automatically.
@@tsh4k but the thing is you don't always want the same settings. When it's a chilly day, you set it up a bit higher. The opposite for hotter days. And it's not like all cars dont maintain the same temperature. If i set mine to a certain temperature, it stays so till the end of time. The important thing is flexibility and ease of adjustment.
I've fallen in love with this car during the last couple of weeks. It's really cool, great performance (not great range though) and some pretty cool, extra features.

Tried one and it's hillarious. And the pumped in sound, is SO much better live than any YT video can convey. If I had the money, I would pick up one of those babies today.
And my guess is, put it in Normal- or Eco-mode and drive like a sane person, you would get OK range.

Fun fact! The N division at Hyundai was run by the former head of BMW's M Division, Albert Biermann from 2015-2022. He's retired but stayed on as a technical advisor. He's the reason why Hyundai has serious performance creds these days.

ICE cars are regulated to be quieter on the outside, but most popular brands would pipe in sound in salon either acustic or digital (Ford uses speakers).

Look it up and decide if they were all just bad drivers. I've plenty of videos. Check out Misha Charoudin's Ioniq 5 N video with 2 Ioniq 5 N's racing.

I'm a big fan of the Ioniq 5N. My EV6 GT is it's sister car (which I do prefer the looks and features like the HUD that aren't in the US-spec I5N). But the tech in the Ioniq 5N to get it to simulate a gas vehicle experience is pretty neat. That said, I'm not sure how much I'd use it.
I like how they put the a/c vent on the side for the rear passengers! Taking advantage of the space for something useful!!
the fake gear shifts would go harder in the IONIQ 6 coupe, they should also let you emulate classic car sounds - give us LFA sounds for sub 60k and it would be fun enough to consider
Ioniq 6’s paddle shifting includes slight lurching like a real auto - it needs the sound affect package

A lot of the great stuff of the N-series is thanks to Albert Biermann who unfortunately will retire end of this year (at least I think). When he took over the performance department at Hyundai he put them on the map as an affordable alternative (especially) to the German and American hatchbacks (especially in Germany the Ford Focus and Fiesta are quite popular, and so are their ST/RS variants) with focus on driver enjoyment. He will be missed for sure!

I have a regular Ioniq 5 and absolutely love it. I also want this one.
Like any sport, timing is important. The noises and feedback to the driver allow them to time their actions around a track. If a car is too quiet and smooth, you lose this feedback; negatively impacting the driver's performance. While it may seem like a gimmick, for racers on the track, this feedback is important.

This is a really cool take on an EV. Only complaint is that the pitch changes in the engine noise are not smooth in the slightest so it just sounds like a laggy racing game. They need to interpolate it for it to sound more realistic.

You're right, I think they are only updating the pitch at 30hz which is why you can hear the choppy pitch changes. Some early versions of Forza were like that too
