    My seven year old daughter and I LOVE this show. I've been a life long Trekkie ever since TNG aired in the 80-90s and while my daughter does enjoy watching other Trek with me, she was able to REALLY get into this show. She was able to better relate to the characters, and I was still able to enjoy great Star Trek stories (and inform her how all the Easter eggs referenced other series).
    This is, by far, the best Star Trek series to bridge the generational gap and attract a whole new audience for decades to come. PLEASE SAVE PRODIGY!!!

      Same! Watching prodigy, with my seven-year-old (now eight) niece has been such a special thing for us. Much of my extended family are Trekkies; she was THRILLED when I told her they were making a Star Trek series for folks her age, and she could fully take part in the family tradition. I'm dreading the look in her eyes when I tell her they won't be a second season... as soon as we thought it was going to be, anyway! I really hope this series find a new home, I think it's the best of the new Treks honestly

      I love it - it's the best values of star trek. Optimism that we can be better than we are - it's more of a love letter to Trek than Lower decks is - and that's saying something.

      Yes, it's totally a conspiracy. Clearly they cancel all the best shows because they're concerned it will raise viewer expectations from future shows.
      Which is a shame because most of these cancelled shows would've made a pretty good movie had they taken that route to begin with.

      Then stop getting into shows. Problem solved

    • @sierra7202
      @sierra7202 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Cthulhu4President Logically I know it's because the series doesn't bring in the revenue the big wigs were hoping for. Netflix cancels great shows often. They cancel series if they cost a good bit to make but don't get new prescribers to Netflix. They deem those series not worth the cost of making because they aren't making a huge profit or a decent profit. Some series like Stranger Things, You, The Crown, Better Call Saul, 13 Reasons Why, Peaky Blinders, The Blacklist and a few others are the reason most people keep Netflix. But eventually, even the best series could end up on the chopping block. If the series aren't bringing in new customers or making them money, they cut them. It's easier for them to just cancel a series than continue with it no matter how popular they are. I started waiting to wait a few seasons to watch some series but even that can backfire. I can't tell you how many shows that have 3 or 4 seasons that end on cliffhangers and get cancelled.

    • @sierra7202
      @sierra7202 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Ottophil seriously! You took the time to respond to me just saying I basically find it frustrating that good to great series get cancelled all the time. Do you bully old ladies to hurry up in the store or knock the disability down so you can get around them? I started to not even respond to you. Why comment on my post? I wasn't hurting you or anyone? I was expressing my opinion on the nature of how series sometimes get cancelled no matter how good they are. If they don't make a huge profit or a set amount for them, it's more cost effective to just cancel them. Regardless, I hope you have a good day.

      Given how they tied it to Nickelodeon, this is actually par for the course. Nick has a long history of poorly managing shows and then cancelling them after one or two seasons. They also have a poor history of managing adult-interest sci fi shows too. The big part of the problem is that these streaming services owned by the studios or starting to come into the point where they are losing money and to save money. They're picking and choosing which products to back and the other problem contradicts exactly like Sean said they are not the be all end all for content more specifically. Paramount plus was advertising that they were going to be the place where you could see all of star trek. At 1 point or another but by shopping out and selling content to others how to make it cheaper to save money that they're losing it's going to create the same problem all over again and kind of the same problem that many cord cutters had that made them cord cutters cost. by being subscribers to multiple services stuck behind paywalls. Then your content is spread all over the place. This is the point now that the streaming bubble is going to burst and it's gonna change TV again which may make a lot of cord cutters go back to cable not all of them but it is a possibility. Also the other problem is physical media which still makes the studios money if they spend a little bit to make the disk. The DVD's and blue rays but many people might not have devices to play it on. There is a piece of news that paramount might be creating content like sony pictures yo sell to other services since they are in 5th to 5th place against, Amazon, Apple, netflix,Disney and even peacock going back to my point of so many platforms competing for our time and dollars. But those are my thoughts I do love prodigy I hope it comes on another platform that I have already, but it should not have leave Paramount + to begin with.

    I think it's sad that they're dumping this series. I was truly impressed with the detail and complex story lines they incorporated. I also like the fact that it was CGI instead of just animation. With the Hollywood turmoil going on, I can sort of see the logic behind the decision but as far as ratings go...it's their own fault for having so few episodes and a long hiatus in between them as well. Since we don't know the plot twists that lie ahead, we can't say that they wouldn't have been controversial. We may never know but I would like to find out without a doubt. If the story does become controversial, air it at night and remove the Nickelodeon name if possible or brand it adult only. This baby didn't deserve to die in its crib at all from what I noticed. I'm going to have to rewatch the whole series to find out, I guess. If the decision is strike related or from fear of a pride backlash, then maybe it's for the best and only temporary until things are resolved. We may never know.

    • @CRanapia
      @CRanapia ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "it's their own fault for having so few episodes and a long hiatus in between them as well. "
      IDK, I think that's an awfully convenient complaint. They could have have commissioned twice as many episodes and dropped them all at once, it really wouldn't have made a lot of difference when they locked the show into a streaming service that was contractually locked into debuting on a streamer NOT AVAILABLE IN AN AWFUL LOT OF KEY MARKETS.
      And people who think if we just reverted to the good old days of 24 epsiode broadcast seasons? Well, I'd remind everyone broadcast networks aren't exactly shy about swinging the axe. Hell, Fox cancelled its top-rating scripted drama (9-11) because it's also a expensive show to produce, give the large ensemble cast, extensive location work and cost of staging disasters and medical emergencies every week.

    • @MakeitZUPER
      @MakeitZUPER ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CRanapia Even TH-cam presenters know that if they have a regular schedule that they send out their videos to, Their viewers will drop off if they halt production. The viewer will go somewhere else and won't be as interested in returning in many cases. The only thing that saves them in these cases is having the series available on demand. Since it's a kids series, corporate doesn't care as much. If their metrics show that a very large majority of the viewers watched the series without ads then corporate doesn't see the series as very profitable because it won't attract sponsors. It's all about the numbers and if the series doesn't make them enough money, it goes away.

      @@CRanapia I wasn't complaining. That's an observation. I don't get bothered by TV or movies not meeting my expectations. It happens all the time and will continue to as well. As far as the market availability, well, I live near the top of a mountain with no cell, broadcast or cable service available. I have just a landline phone and a DSL line for internet. It took them 6 months just to get that run up the mountain. My point is that I get what I get and am unaware of the mainstream programing options other than not being able to watch my local NFL games since I moved up here. Regrets, yes. Complaints...never. Studio specific Streaming was supposed to alleviate this kinda thing where all seasons of a show was at a user's fingertips. Canceling it is one thing...but removing it all together? Thats such an odd move. And if no other service or channel picks it up, it's lost forever. Did it even get a physical release?

Hear Kate's voice beam with pride and passion - it's a glowing tribute to the best values of star trek and for such a thing to be lost due to greed and money? it's tragic. I will be buying it if they release it - it's more of a love letter to Trek than "lower decks" is and Lower decks worships Trek.

      In a world where streaming platforms are pulling shows from their services, nobody should be surprised that people turn to downloading. If there is no other way to watch a show that you want to watch, that is the only option remaining. Paramount+ was marketed as the streaming platform for ALL Star Trek, so I consider pulling one show for financial reasons to be deception of customers. There should be a refund for that, or compensation for extra costs made for watching it elsewhere. If there was a legally mandatory refund for deceptive marketing that may actually cost them more money than keeping the show on the platform.🤔

      I think as being for kids, this show is an introduction for those 1st experiencing Star Trek. For older teens to adults, it was highly entertaining and enjoyable. One point that has been made over and over is that is a show that the entire family can watch. It was set to welcome a new set of Trek watchers to the franchise. This show should never have been considered for the chopping block even to cut back on expenses. It would pay off just as the original Trek did (and is still doing), but much sooner.

    Again, and I say this with the utmost displeasure, all of these big corporations seem to not care what we think as viewers/fans. As you said, it’s all about money. At least to them. Paramount has been reluctant in the past to push Star Trek into a larger franchise with its cautious approach to the big screen movies, or even more so, the streaming services. If they think Star Trek is losing money, it is only because they are not producing 25 episodes per season, like it was done on main stream television. We as fans are not wanting to invest in short story seasons. Give us what TNG had. THEN you will see the fan base rise, and the subscriptions increase.
    To have a handful of Prodigy episodes, just to drop the series, is not giving the show a chance. The proof is, Star Trek IS a viable franchise, but it needs to be handled in such a way that we as viewers will want to come back for more.
    Sorry for the rant, but Paramount+ seems to be spending money in places where it shouldn’t in replacement of keeping good shows. Sending their shows to other streaming services may make them more money, but it sure is exasperating to run around the streaming platforms to find your favorite shows, and in some cases have to pay on top of what you’re already paying for the service! Greed has us in its grips….
    We are not in the 23rd century where money is not important….sadly.

    It's a brutal industry to be part of at times and I really do feel for everyone who's worked on Prodigy. I think streaming platforms in general are about to undergo a huge change, the bubble has burst in some respects partly due to more platforms being available and partly due to world economics. I think most are reporting a drop in subscribers, subscriber uptake and viewing figures, they'll be looking at their business models and having a re-think. I wouldn't be surprised if the practice of cancelling shows and removing them doesn't continue while they all jockey for position. Add in the fact that the WGA strike has highlighted issues with how (if) creatives are being paid, something else they will have to factor into the budgets going forward and you can see why they are taking advantage of things like tax breaks. It will settle down eventually but may well be a bumpy ride until we get there.

    The main problem that all network shows have always had, is that ratings are secondary, money is primary and there has never been any mechanism through which individual shows could insulate themselves financially against cancellation. In modern times, the fact that this is still the case, is simply ridiculous. With things like Patreon, GoFundMe, and the like -- a shows fan base would have plenty of ways to financially help insulate their favorite shows from cancellation. On a streaming network, one does not have "time slot" issues because with on-demand content, you can have as little or much of it on a platform at the same time, as you want to. So if a show had the means to pick up the financial slack itself, the network would not need to cancel it, even if ratings were technically lower than the network would like them to be. As long as money was flowing in to keep it going, then it would indeed keep going. The fact that this has not at all been anywhere close to "common sense" among show runners, just boggles the mind. You hear that, Paramount?

As two have been cancelled and none has run it's course. Now all that remains is Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds. Yes, in theory the Section 31 film, and Starfleet Academy are in development, but they are still reasonably early in development and with the writer's strike continuing, they are just frozen in stasis. Already acrossn the industry we've seen shows and films outright cancelled because studios don't want to wait for the strike and it's costs.
    We could be in a major consolidation of Star Trek again, back to only having one or two concurrent shows.

    Oh FFS, I was finally getting settled with the idea that Star Trek would finally be unified on one platform.

    i loved the hell out of this show. voyager and janeway are my favorites. i also used this to introduce my oldest (7) to star trek. he loved it as much as i did, and the number of times we paused it so i could give him context or to explain something was uncountable. its so sad to see this show being removed. both of us were so excited for the 2nd season.

      That is definitely the point. I remember my Mom and me. Watching the old Star Trek. And then when Next Generation came out. Definitely a good comment.

    Signed and shared Sean! the ONLY REASON i subscribe to Paramount plus in the UK is for Star Trek and some other shows they had like halo (that seems to have disappeared after 1 season too! ) shame queen of the universe is going too as i watched that ...rise of pink ladies not so much lol ....BUT the question is with this merger with showtime are we in the uk gonna get shows we never had access to with showtime before? im still PI**ED THEY ARE GETING RID OF PRODIGY THOUGH ..I THOUGHT STAR TREK shows were their lynch pin of the service?

    Have we seen viewership numbers for any of these shows? Streaming services are super shady with that info and it should worry us all as we have no clue what could be canned next

    This show is /was for me the last of Roddenberry Star Trek . Watched it with my kids and my wife and brought my Children the understanding what "trekki" means and why her father always talk of this Star Trek thing.

    I'm not getting abunch different services just to get all of Star Trek. I will just have to stick with whichever one has the most series or the main one that I wanna watch.

    The main issue I believe is that, despite its recent resurgence, a large portion of the population still see sci-fi shows like Star Trek as a niche show for geeks. Yes, the number belie that belief, but it has also always seemed that studio executives have never been a fan of the show. Sci fi is always expensive to produce, which is why we get only 10 episodes per season of a show instead of the 22-26 we used to get, so why would they want to spend a lot of many for what they believe will be seen by a very limited audience. The fact that, as Sean has stated, Prodigy was forced into an even narrower market by being labelled as a kids show, combined with the slash and burn agriculture that emerges whenever two services/networks merge (look at how the Arrowverse fared when CW was bought out), made it almost inevitable that Prodigy would be the one on the chopping block. Lower Decks had a better start and reception, and would likely cost less to produce because it's traditional animation, but both animated series take time to produce, making it hard for a company for fork out the money for the show when they have to wait so long to see any returns. Here's hoping that the conclusion of Discovery will allow more resources to be diverted to the other shows, shoring them up against future turbulence.

    Prodigy is a worthy show. Worthy of Star Trek, worthy of airing the second season, worthy of continuing beyond season 2. It's quality TV that appeals to both kids and adults.

    Thank you Trek Culture for the heads up. I have been saying for years that if you like something then it’s really worth investing in the physical media. Just try to find the original Star Trek from the sixties not remastered or the theatrical original Star Wars trilogy on any streaming service. There are many other examples where something has been removed, remastered or re-edited and the version you loved only survives on dvd or blu-ray. That being said keep up the pressure for the program you love. Cheers. Pete.

    Are they cancelling it, or are they going full "Final Space" where they do that evil tax write off where they delete the entire series, getting rid of all merchandise and making it impossible to stream or buy DVD copies?

    I hate Disney, I don't use Amazon, but I had Netflix until they went too far with this not sharing, but being expensive, paying 100 million only for Friends, another one for HIMYM, producing BS, but having "Main Star Trek". Now I have Paramount+ and they delete a show? I hope, they will bring it back even with no episodes. I haven't seen this (nor Picard nor the last season Discovery), so this would be really bad.
    No wonder piracy is big again. The promise was "Video on DEMAND", but deleting this or in general having no guaranty to have a show "on demand" is annoying.
    Some years ago Netflix had the good old Ghost Busters animation. I watched it several nights, but one night it was gone with no explanation... Frustration...
