Commiserations to family, friends, especially Tim and Janey...all at Radio 2 and the millions of listeners that grew up with Wrighty. R.I.P. RADIO LEGEND ❤
I happened to be listening to Simon Mayo on Greatest Hits Radio just as he was announcing the passing of Steve and could hear his voice faltering as we know for many years Simons show followed Steve on Radio 2 in the afternoons until recently, RIP Wrighty
Listened to Steve Wright since I was 18. I’m 61 now absolutely gutted. Had the pleasure of seeing him on the Radio 1 Road show Blackpool 1982 1st week in August then 1983 OctoberSteve , Simon Bates and Alan Freeman did a show at Stewarton Community Centre in Scotland the 10th Anniversary of it opening. On my few occasions of unemployment in early 80’s he got me thru the day as I looked forward to his shows in the Afternoon. Such a genuine kind funny caring person. My Heart goes out to his Family, I listened to his last afternoon show on Radio 2 30 September 2022 and shed a tear. Still listened to him on Sunday mornings and BBC Radio will be all the poorer for not having such a talent and person on its Airwaves now. God bless you Mate and Rest in Peace.
I'm so angry I could throw the phone down.. I'm 60..and I've shed a tear... brilliant memories..of me listening to radio 1 in the 80's. and the friends I hung around with...Have the funeral in the afternoon... and loads of 80's music..Rest in peace Steve
Sentiments I agree with. I can remember his Arnie the terminator returning from the future to kill Bryan Adams cause Eveything I Do For You, when it was in about its sixth week at the top, had been number one for hundreds of years and taken all the world's money lol
I’m so gutted!! I used to bunk off school to listen to Steve Wright in the Afternoon!! Such a brilliant show! Iconic!! I’m in bits! RIP Legend!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
Steve was a true Icon ,from listening as a youngster to the present he made you feel like part of the show, there will never be another one like him ,thankyou for the music and laughs.❤
Sara Cox was very emotional herself after that news bulletin on BBC Radio 2 at 5pm & when Bobbie Pryor gave her traffic update report later on she was very close to breaking down in tears but she did manage to hold it together. Yes so very sad to hear of Steve Wright's sudden passing, BBC Radio 2 will not be the same without him.
Absolutely devastated! LOVED Steve & all his characters over the years. I can picture myself listening & laughing at so many funny times whilst in my office, Elvis & his advise, Mr Angry, his side kick Tim….. missed his afternoon show so much. RIP Steve, you were loved by millions. ❤️❤️😢
This is heartbreaking news 😢😢😢😢he was a huge part of my teens and loved his show with the various voices. Absolute legend and radio genius. RIP 😢😢😢😢 a 52 year old mum shedding tears
There are many of us of a certain age who remember the decades not just of afternoon laughter but those introductions to music that he loved and he knew we would love as well. I will never be able to listen to Wichita Linesman without thinking of him and thanking him for the hours of good times he gave to me. RIP dear man.
I cannot believe the news of Steve Wright"s passing. Im devastated. He was a true legend who brightened every single listeners life. The radio waves will be not sound the same without his voice on them. Itll take some getting used to not hearing him anymore. RIP Steve Wright.
I have listened to Steve Wright since 1983 when i was off school after having had surgery(i loved Gervaise the hairdresser) and have listened to ever since. He really knew how to do radio and will be sadly missed. RIP Steve Wright.

His show helped many work days pass merrily by with his funny show and adorable characters, even Mr. Angry! You will leave a huge hole Steve Wright. xx
Hed been a part of my life since childhood. My Dad was a massive fan listened to his show every day and i grew to love him first at Radio 1 and then as i got older I found him again at Radio 2. Like Wogan and Everett there will never be another quite like him.
I loved his show during my drive home when I worked in London 20 years ago. Loved his style and guests and most of all, his genuine warmth. It was like listening to a mate in the pub.
So very sad to hear about Steve Wright. Listened to him for years. Met him at Castle Howard at a Radio one roadshow in the early 1980s. The teddy bears picnic. He hosted with Peter Powell and Mike Read. We used to listen to the radio at work. So many good memories. Rest in peace.
Paul Gambaccini on Sunday had.me in tears with his tribute to Steve. And Liza Tarbucks love song show on Sunday morning was therapy.. I knew what Steve meant to my life in the 80s and 90s ,so important on the sites. then Liza read out audience letters when children where getting married and steve read out the dedication. My Sundays revolved around radio 2 . Love songs through to the beautiful Paul Ogrady. The only joy we can take is we laughed and actually loved Sir Terry Wogan, Steve Wright and Paul Ogrady . Thankyou boys .
First heard Steve Wright on Radio 1 as a Teenager in the 80's. Moved on with him to Radio 2 and Top of the Pops as well. 53 now and he really was the soundtrack to our lives. Lost many showbiz personalities from my formative years over time sadly but Steve's passing has really hit me! The World of Radio without his voice is something i really don't want to contemplate. Bless you Wrighty and just simply, Thankyou. ❤
This is massive shock, I listened to him when I was growing up, I'm 59 now and I now have many Steve Wright things running through my brain, my prayers for his family 🌹🇬🇧
Ah ..so sad to hear this , truly entertaining and he really did have the gift of the gab . Never alone, as I travelled many miles for work over the year's. Thank you kind Sir . RIP ❤
Listened to Steve, whilst I was at Sony and Panasonic for many decades. Got me through the day with a smile on my face when the work was bogging me down. I remember physically hurting myself laughing whilst listening to one of the "Arny" sketches. He will be greatly missed.
I'm 38 and loved his voice and energy. He really was a radio maverick. Thank you Steve. Hopefully you'll see 'the old lady' from your show ❤🎉❤ His SRITA theme tune was absolutely amazing
One of the greatest DJ ever known it’s the hardest thing to hear of his passing. But the most difficult part was hearing that he lost his mid afternoon slot to be replaced by an extremely poor DJ called Scot mills . Steve always gave it his all but this Scott mills is hardly ever there and it feels like there is no effort being put into the show. It’s always the same thing just a different day. Yes Steve had his serious, Jockin but the rest of the week it was always different. When Ken Bruce left that was another dark day same with Simon Mayo all because someone wanted to make there mark. Well she certainly did that probably broke Steve heart when he learned that he was being replaced by a part time DJ I’m sorry to say this but radio 2 was listened by millions now only by a few thousand even now trying to get listeners back by advertising on BBC 1 . Please God look after this nation treasure you now have in your hands he truly was amazing and truly loved here 😭😭😭😞😞🥹🥹
Oooooo Nooooooo! Sorry about the loss of a radio personality. Rest in peace, Steven. #SteveWright (26 august 1954-13 february 2024) #ripsteve #ripstevewright
I'm blubbering and I'm 50, could always tell when Steve came on the radio or presented TOTP, his voice was so distinctive, we may have lost a legend, but his memories will always be with us, Thanks for being a part of my childhood Steve, hope your pumping out the tunes up there 😢😢😢
Same age as my Dad, we both loved to listen to Steve and often recite something funny Steve had said.. So sad 😞 let’s hope he’s making them all laugh where ever he has gone. Sarah I can hear your pain, he will be so missed..❤❤❤
RIP Steve. Radio will never be the same again. 53 years old and spent my life with you. As a lorry driver of that era me and my colleagues was all gutted and still reelingfrom the news. RIP Steve
This is one of those pieces of news that's so shocking, it feels like a punch in the guts. Rest in eternal peace Steve, you brought so much pleasure to so many.
Steve Wright one of the finest Radio 2 DJs going. the funny thing is my Steve Wright in the afternoon clock has stopped thank you Steve Wright for those brilliant shows you did on Radio 1 and 2 RIP Reply
I'm Listening to this 2 years after his last show on the afternoon slot on BBC R2.. And I'm f*cking crying!!! I messaged him for weeks before the final show and begged him to play the "old"playout bed (wichita lineman) and he did... and I was so happy but sad that he had gone. Then love songs on Sunday, The two years of charts on the Saturday and the summer evenings shows meant he wasn't really gone... but then this. I never thought I would ever be this devastated at the death of a DJ.. but I realised he had been with me almost every week day of my working life... he really was a true friend. When he died I really felt a family member or close mate had gone.. There is nobody on radio anywhere in this country who can hold a candle to the quality of his work. Too loud, too camp, too dull... nobody can do it. Sadly I now believe nobody will. The BBC are preparing to switch off the FM transmitters in favour of Digital only, The golden age of wireless really has ended...................................................................
When I heard this very sad news about the sudden passing of Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2 at 5pm I just stared at my radio in complete shock & disbelief. I only heard him last weekend on the Pick Of The Pops show on Saturday afternoon & Sunday Love Songs on Sunday morning on BBC Radio 2. What an absolute legend & a one of a kind DJ he was. I remember him on the breakfast show at BBC Radio 1 back in the mid 1990's & of course his afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 on weekdays. I always looked forward to Friday afternoons on BBC Radio 2 from 4.15pm when Steve Wright would turn into DJ Silly Boi & do his Serious Jockin' show with no 'G' & of his prod squad would do a playful intro of some sort. I used to like the way he asked us if we or anybody we knew wanted a 'shout-out' on the radio & he would do it in that unique South London accent. Will certainly miss his voice & mannerisms on the radio & my thoughts are with all the BBC Radio 2 DJ's right now.
I was listening to this live. Sarah Cox did amazingly well. Must have been awful for her learning of the death of a friend live on radio then having to do a show. Steve would have been proud of her. ❤
Very sad and totally gutted to hear the news about Wrighty, The greatest radio jockey ever, absolute legend and radio genius. Wrighty was great company on the long road trips for me in my Lorry and for many other truckers. RIP Steve 😥
One final shoooouuuut ooooouuut to Steve, a radio genius the likes of which we won't see again. Serious Jockin with no G, good bye my afternoon friend.
He was a legend wasn't he. I used to listen to his show in the 80s working on building sites. He was just what we needed and he was great fun to listen to. God bless you Steve and thanks for being part of my life.
Sad passing of a total legend.....made boring motorway journeys enjoyable......decades of fun and humour.....kept inventing new wheezes to keep us laughing...... Serious Jockin' was exciting to look forward to..... R.I.P. Steve......👍 👏
So shocking 😮 55 year old man here Cried when I heard this such sad news! So many memories! His voice will live on! Hats off to all the Radio2 presenters that had to struggle through their shows!! Love them all!! RIP Wrighty!!!
So sad. Listened to him on Luxembourg in the late 70s, Radio 1 in the 80s & 90s and Radio 2 in the 2000s. Not listened to Radio 2 since his afternoon show was taken off and was hoping he'd go to GHR. Gutted 😢
I have nothing but fond memories of Steve ‘I’m Mike Powell’ being one of the more recent sound bites he used, quite ironically I often mused that to take his afternoon show would be the death of him, and a matter of months later - here we are
My first job was absolutely soul destroying, back in 1981. Then my mates and I had Steve Wright and Mr Angry. Quickest/funniest/best couple hours of the day. RIP, Mr Wright. You were truly one of a kind.
Feeling gutted, Really Fitting to play Wichita Lineman as the first track in the memory Steve - listened to him from day 1 - A true legend R I P Steve - Good bless 🙏🙏🙏
Someone at work called my mum Gervaise when he was doing a joke sketch while talking to her, and she thought he called her shit face, it was hysterical hearing her repeat it for us teen-agers, her confusion was magic. Anyway, very old memory that one, he's been on the radio my whole sentient life and I'm 54. Goodbye old friend
After what bbc did to Ken Bruce I stopped listening to radio 2 Now Steve Write is gone that's it for me RIP to a great man and presenters ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I was listening to this live. Sarah Cox did amazingly well. Must have been awful for her learning of the death of a friend live on radio then having to do a show. Steve would have been proud of her. ❤
RIP Steve
Simply a class act across the radio waves, made you laugh and smile,I salute I salute you sir🙏
00:10 that precise moment
Im sooooooo gutted that his died Ive loved listening to him RIP Steve Wright 1954-2024
He was a legend wasn't he. I used to listen to his show in the 80s working on building sites. He was just what we needed and he was great fun to listen to. God bless you Steve and thanks for being part of my life.
Such sad news everyone grew up with him I loved him on top of the pops.
Sad passing of a total legend.....made boring motorway journeys enjoyable......decades of fun and humour.....kept inventing new wheezes to keep us laughing......
Serious Jockin' was exciting to look forward to.....
R.I.P. Steve......👍

So shocking 😮 55 year old man here Cried when I heard this such sad news! So many memories! His voice will live on! Hats off to all the Radio2 presenters that had to struggle through their shows!! Love them all!! RIP Wrighty!!!
Shocked to the core. R.I.P Steve. You will sooo missed.❤️
Loved the show Steve RIP
The news reader was upset 😢
Loved him over the years and recently pick of the pops he made it his own recently with his added quirky humour 😢
So sad. Listened to him on Luxembourg in the late 70s, Radio 1 in the 80s & 90s and Radio 2 in the 2000s. Not listened to Radio 2 since his afternoon show was taken off and was hoping he'd go to GHR. Gutted 😢
A great man all the iconic DJs a R almost gone now
I have nothing but fond memories of Steve
‘I’m Mike Powell’ being one of the more recent sound bites he used, quite ironically
I often mused that to take his afternoon show would be the death of him, and a matter of months later - here we are
My first job was absolutely soul destroying, back in 1981. Then my mates and I had Steve Wright and Mr Angry. Quickest/funniest/best couple hours of the day.
RIP, Mr Wright. You were truly one of a kind.
A very very sad and BIG loss to us all
Loved you mate ...stopped listening when you left ...
He was a massive Soul fan like me ...join your heroes in heaven.

so sad...
Was my favourite dj through my life. Funny as hell professional.and we loved him xx
R.I.P Steve
After what bbc did to Ken Bruce I stopped listening to radio 2
Now Steve Write is gone that's it for me
RIP to a great man and presenters ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
