I'm an American and I still won't forget what Queen Elizabeth did for us Americans when 9/11 happened. She had the guards play our national anthem and raise our flag. Some people from the United Kingdom had passed away during the attacks on our country.
I’ll never forget that, either. It was on television coverage here that the Queen asked her own Guards to play our anthem at Buckingham Palace. You could see people outside the Palace, many Americans, in tears, and so appreciative. A true gesture of solidarity. Queen Elizabeth is missed. 🇺🇸

I’m not a royalist, but in a weird way I am fond of the royal family. The queens death did bring out a somber feeling. She was queen long before I was even born, and for some reason I never imagined that she would stop being queen.
Same here. The UK will never be the same. QEII was paramount in opening up the family, charity work and public appearances
She never did.......... that's why she commanded respect and admiration
Why do you say you're not a royalist? You clearly are. You recognise and value the role of the monarchy. The UK is just one of a a group of lucky European nations which have a monarch - and they are, without exception, the most democratic, the most liberal, the most economically, socially and politically progressive and forward thinking nations on the planet. In the UK this was absolutely HUGE! Shops actually shut early and everything was interrupted and this went on ror a few days before things got back to normal. Businesses closed memorial and farewell events in pubs were happening pretty much daily and Street Buskers were joining other Buskers to sing the National Anthem or they just did it alone. There was something about knowing that I would be part of the last generation to see Queen Elizabeth in all her glory that really hit me, I remember being stood chatting to my dad as he watched the news before work and just shortly after the announcement occurred.
And as always, the BBC, with complete and utter professionalism, handle it perfectly. That is why they are the foremost broadcasting outlet in this country. Seamless.
Not only in UK, BBC is role model for every television in Europe.

ITV might learn a thing or two.
Watching this a year later still brings tears to my eyes: gone but will never be forgotten.
Same here. I'm American and still feel the sadness. Seeing videos of her during her last few days and how frail she had become since the Jubilee is heartbreaking. I'm just happy she lived long enough to enjoy the grand party the people of England and the world threw for her on her 75th anniversary.
Me to so sad
Same here! 😢
You sound brainwashed
It still hits me. I remember just staying in and being displaced. God save the King
I can’t believe that it’s literally been a year since the Queen passed away 😢
That wasn't the only death that broke me. There was that of my grandma just 3 weeks after the Queen. On top of being paralyzed and demented by a stroke in her 70s (which made my life go downhill since then already), in 2021, she got COVID from her caretaker, but she managed to pull through thanks to the vaccine. The following year, however, she suffered respiratory and heart failure at the same time, which turned into a fatal condition by Saturday that ended up killing her on the same day. My mother couldn't even go around (only in the early morning and late afternoon) because she had just come back from her cancer operation and, to make things worse than bad, she was forced by her heartless brother (my uncle, who recently cheated on his wife!!!) to make the funeral preparations.
Just a month later, our dog Daphne had an aggressive stomach ache that almost killed her, but it was all caused by the food we were giving him - that was not the first time it occurred in her life. She's fine now and eating the right kibbles. But that moment was terrible. Age only makes things worse (this year, she turned 13 - born in 2010): she has been diagnosed with cataracts, a heart murmur, and I'm even more upset than my mother, on top of the Coronavirus and the whole Ukraine Vs. Russia & Hamas/Palestine war scare.
I think I'm losing my family... S-s-sorry, I'll need to work this out somehow!
P.S. I also have a female cat. She's doing fine like Daphne, except that she's FIV positive...
Same. I remember being told she 'fell ill' and I just knew it was her time. Can't believe how quick it's been though since Charles has been crowned. Christmas was only a few months ago and now we've just had it again. Yikes

I was in Wales when I heard that Her Majesty died. It didn't help the fact that I was about to lose my grandmother to lung cancer a month and a half later after the Queen’s death. Wales was the last place that I saw her and I dreaded leaving knowing I'll never see her again. But I believe that when the Queen and my grandmother first heard the news of their cancers, they both had said, "Well, I've had a good life." And we all agreed with them. She obviously died earlier than it was announced. The official announcement was at 6.30pm but apparently the Prime Minister was informed at 4.30pm. The fact that the flag was already at half-mast and most of the news anchors were already wearing black would also suggest that.
Indeed, I was watching Keir Starmer making his statement with regards the Fuel Crisis debate when the buzz went along the benches behind him. It was quite obvious from the look on their faces that it was much more serious than had been announced at that time (1.30pm approx)
I believe they used the codeword London-Bridge (in the case of the Queen) to allow all members of the Royal Family to assemble before they let the news out to the wider world.
The codeword was "London Bridge is Down". Yes there would have been a delay between actual death and notification. However at least in the base of media outlets, every one of the UK outlets has what amounts to a "break glass in case of royal death" kit, with black suit&ties, up-to-date image collections of the queen, music, updated articles, etc. So they get notified, and immediately switch over to mourning, which includes wearing black, sad music, no advertisement, etc.
Half As Interesting broke down the process pretty well. The protocol for London Bridge Is Down is a pretty drawn out operation; by the time the news were given the official go ahead to announce her death, it would’ve already been a few hours since her passing. But you’re right, the faces of guards, the flag positions on the mast, and the earlier report of the Queen being under medical supervision was more than enough to predict the ominous report ahead.
Once her family were called to her bedside it was to be expected the Queen was not going to survive. I know BBC newscasters were said to keep a black outfit in thier office so one could be on hand in case of events like this . Can't speak for ITV, Sky news and Channels 4 and 5 but i would guess it would be the same . The Queen was 96 and getting weaker. Her death was not a total surprise
I found out at 2pm, I would expect that it was in-fact an hour or so earlier.

The whole word has stopped for a moment💔 I remember this day and I will never forget her Majesty❤
Still brings me to tears ❤
Rest in peace our Queen 😢
this announcement was not an interruption. From 15:00 all media knew that the Elizabeth Windsor is dead and pretended not to know "she is resting and is comfortable"...well that is what bodies are "doing". (at least I never heard of a body in pain). And anyone who has ever witnessed a death knows that it does not always happen peacefully, but that people stop breathing
why did the newsreader have to "find" the statement. Surely it would be sitting on top!
She would have been speaking mere seconds after the announcement was made, to already gave it at hand would require time travel
@@isnitjustkit Also, you have to bear in mind that the BBC, being the nation's national broadcaster, would have got the statement maybe 2 or 3 mins earlier.
@@davidspear9790 precisely, hence why their announcement didn’t cut into BBC One’s schedule and it was so formal
@@davidspear9790 they all knew earlier. I got a message from a friend at the BBC much earlier, hence why they were all wearing black. They had to delay until 6.30 as per instructions.
i used it for toilet paper

Queen of heart. the World love her and r respect her.
i remember this..... we had sky news on the tv and abruptly been awaiting news all days, everyone left the room and i was the only one left in there and unfortunately the announcement we were dreading was said...... my heart dropped and very quickly shot up and called everyone back into the room. Some were crying, some were shocked. Overall, she was an amazing monarch, she was a nice women and I'm glad she managed to live such a long and peaceful life.
Amazing, never worked in its life
Watching this on the 11th of April, 2024 and it still brings a tear to my eye. Queen Elizabeth II will always be our Queen.
Long live the Quenn 😞
I remember this moment, it was the day before my 13th birthday and im super pumped. And i understood the late queen was in hospital and preyed for her safety. Until i got told to go downstairs to the sitting room to see on the tv that she passed. My heart skipped a beat since was the one i grew up and praised but it just heart beyond anything ive experienced and kinda made me mature a bit. God bless her
