I worked at Granada TV as a runner for Star in their Eyes back in the mid nighties when was about 22/23 years old and not many people really spoke to me tbh and I remember one evening I had to leave the studio to go up to the 3rd floor which was the entertainment dept and as I made my way down the corridor past the make up department at around 7-7.30 and I saw an elegant lady walking towards me and I just walked with my head down and then as I heard the clicks of the heels getting closer a lovely voice said “hello” and I kinda looked behind me thinking this woman was talking to somebody else but there was no one there and I turned back round and she said “hello” again and pointed at myself and asked if she she meant me and this woman said yes. The woman then asked how I was and if I was enjoying working at Granada and gave me some quick advice and after a brief chat she wished me a good evening and carried on her journey down this long corridor. The woman in question was indeed Lucy Meacock and she was so genuinely interested and so lovely. She was the only person who actually spoke to me in a genuine manner. Lucy was just as you see her TV…absolutely no arrogance about her and such a nice person with a beautiful warm smile. God bless you Ms Meacck

I'm Listening to this 2 years after his last show on the afternoon slot on BBC R2.. And I'm f*cking crying!!! I messaged him for weeks before the final show and begged him to play the "old"playout bed (wichita lineman) and he did... and I was so happy but sad that he had gone. Then love songs on Sunday, The two years of charts on the Saturday and the summer evenings shows meant he wasn't really gone... but then this. I never thought I would ever be this devastated at the death of a DJ.. but I realised he had been with me almost every week day of my working life... he really was a true friend. When he died I really felt a family member or close mate had gone.. There is nobody on radio anywhere in this country who can hold a candle to the quality of his work. Too loud, too camp, too dull... nobody can do it. Sadly I now believe nobody will. The BBC are preparing to switch off the FM transmitters in favour of Digital only, The golden age of wireless really has ended...................................................................
