I totally get the emotions at the end. Growing up in a lower-middle class family we were happy to even stay at a Hampton Inn, so now as an adult being able to stay at this and several other Waldorf Astoria's I'm so grateful for the doors the points & miles game has opened for me.

Thank you Bruce! So really just the guy who brought the bags up, but that’s about it since there was no real direct way to tip the folks who set up the nice stuff, they just worked the front desk and put the order in I think.
Otherwise, for the bags, I think the $10-$20 makes sense for me. Maybe they expect more in a $3k room but I didn’t get any impression they even cared for anything haha.

the good Waldorf Astorias are insanely proactive, it can be a little overwhelming in the beginning, but its nice once you get used to it. The only downside is it's hard to go back to normal hotels after that.

With the inkind app, when you paid the $150 and billed the rest to the room, do you just advise the server that portion of bill was paid by inkind and tell them the rest to be billed to the room? As i dont fully understand, and would like to try to do this myself as im staying at the property in a couple weeks and was interested
Yes so, just as you said. Pay the $150 to get the $50 off. Then just tell the server, they’ll cut the check to what you owe, then you can bill to the room or pay by card.

Might be bad but technically only gave the guy my last $2 bill, and went to Venmo him after the fact but I still have to call to make sure he’s the right recipient so it’s all fine, but will tip like $20. Honestly nobody seemed to expect and or even give a chance for us to tip, soon as he gave the info, he was trying to leave us be 😂

When you redeemed points out for cash to pay for the $300, it counts towards more points? Or you paid for $500, you got $200 hotel credit back, and redeemed points for 1.1 cents per point value and basically got your money back?
Yes the second way you said. Spent $500 and got 5x. Got the $200 back.
Then redeemed the 27k at 1.1 for the $297 which was about what was left over for the stay etc.
Didn’t get the money back because I only earned maybe 2500 pts for the card multiplier, so maybe only spent like 24.5k points technically entirely for the night.
But yes you’re right, a small amount back, but not too bad out of pocket for the value we got!

I try not to assign fictional values to rooms and airline flights. Having said that a room like that is easily worth $1500 minimum. Life is short, live it up, use your points, and don’t listen to the haters who wish they could have stayed in that room.

Like the room? Yeah little classic looking, but some modern looking fixtures etc. But it’s for sure a more old school luxury vs some of the higher end Marriotts and Hyatts I think.

Interesting. No offense, but that room looks very vanilla to me in terms of environment. I see a lot of white, beige/peach walls with little to no decorations. It is just big to me. For me, I would prefer something smaller with a nice view (20 stories or higher).
You for sure would like the Thompson I stayed at there as well, it was tall and much more modern.
I hear you though, I just tend to like the gold accents and classical look to be honest. But both are great I think!
