    For the Chase Sapphire reserve card, when they are referring to not getting the points until you spend $300 in travel, is because you get the first $300 you spend in Travel automatically credited back on your card. That is done under the $300 travel credit. Unlike other cards you do not have to request what charges you want the $300 credit to be applied to, it will automatically apply it to the first $300 that you spend on travel in that year. They are just saying that because you got that $300 of travel for ‘free’ you don’t then also earn three points per dollar.

      You also don’t have to do it through the portal which is great for people who prefer to book directly with the airline/hotel. Or, in our case as a family of 7, we almost never stay in hotels but rather in Airbnb’s. Also, it wipes anything coded as “travel” like a parking garage. Having said that, though, we do have the first combo. It works for us and we’re able to give our teens cards on the account and lounge access without paying more. And we were able to use the $300 credit to book a ticket for my husband recently who needed to travel alone last minute for a funeral.

    The $300 credits are not "Identical" at all. The chase $300 is for any travel. The vx credit is only if tou book via the c1 portal.

      When I first got the VX I could use it to go towards anything like a VRBO. They changed it within the last year.

    The section about the Sapphire Reserve $300 travel credit is misleading. It is not the same as the Venture X. The Sapphire travel credit is much better because it can be used on any travel purchase (not just on the travel portal). It even counts for Uber/Lyft rides.

    • @Sandersson6
      @Sandersson6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And it’s applied automatically, that’s why we don’t get points on the first $300, because the first $300 is essentially free. The video makes it appear as a limit that needs to be met before you earn points.

    I do have the Venture X already. It it a slightly more difficult to use than the Sapphire, but worth the savings in annual fee. I did previously have the Sapphire Preferred, but didn't use it much

    I have the Chase Preferred paired with the American Express Gold Card. I was able to get 60K miles on Chase and 90K miles on Amex. Capital One will not give me either of their cards for some stupid reason (scores are 740-785). We've applied 3 times now. The Chase and Amex we were pre-approved before even applying. We are looking to get one more card this fall so we will have about 300K to use next summer to go somewhere 😀

    Interesting comparisons. I've had a Cap1 Venture for years and already have almost 220k on that card. I just got my sign-up bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, because they made me a deal I couldn't refuse (80k!). I'll have to consider bumping my C1V up to Venture X. Thank you for a very good breakdown!

    I got 100,000 points in June (maybe May?) on my CSP by going into the branch. I just talked my (very reluctant) hubby into getting the C1VX. So by next month when we’ve met our SUB spend, we got 175,000 point in 3-4 months. I’m satisfied!

    For the everyday person I think the Chase Sapphire preferred as well as Capital One venture not venture X. Because again your everyday person especially in America is not going on really nice vacations every year so those two cards allow you to maximize points without spending crazy amounts on annual fees

    I've had a Preferred for a while and I just picked up the Venture X a couple days ago. Your benefits analysis is right on the money. The Venture X is also a nice upgrade for Chase Trifecta people who were carrying a Preferred, but getting tired of only getting 1.5X back on the Freedom Unlimited.

      There's a fair bit of overlap in the transfer partners, assuming that's your thing. The only downside is around hotels. If your favorite use of Chase Points is Hyatt, it makes less sense. For me, Aeroplan and Flying Blue cover a lot of what I want to do and they're both transfer partners.@@chrisv4920

    I have been using the Chase Trifecta for a few years - CSR, Freedom, Freedom Unlimited and Ink Business Cash - Most of my spend ends up on my Freedom Unlimited since it's neither dining nor travel. I don't ever use the chase travel portal since I have marriott and national rental car status' but the 10x seem very appealing!!!
    I plan to try the Venture X and downgrade the CSR to the CSP right before the renewal. I think that would be a great combo.
    How about the capital 1 duo? The Venture X plus the Savor?

    How about Chase Amazon Prime card (no annual fee) with 5% back on Amazon purchases, Fidelity Investments credit card (no annual fee) with 2% back on everything and the BILT Mastercard (no annual fee) with 1X for rent plus 2X for travel and 3X for dining? That's my trifecta.

    Also what are your thoughts on me opening one of these cards and my boyfriend opening the other? This was we can both get TSA Pre/Global Entry and we'd both be the ones traveling together to benefit from each.
