The VW 1.0 TSI engine is a three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine produced by Volkswagen Group. It has a displacement of 999 cc and is used in a variety of Volkswagen Group vehicles, including the VW Polo, VW Golf, and Audi A1.
Overall, the VW 1.0 TSI engine is generally well-regarded for its balance of power and fuel efficiency. It typically produces around 110 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque, which is impressive for its size. Additionally, the engine is relatively lightweight, which contributes to the overall efficiency of the vehicle.
One of the notable features of the VW 1.0 TSI engine is its use of a turbocharger, which helps to boost power and torque output. The engine also uses direct injection technology, which helps to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
In terms of reliability, the VW 1.0 TSI engine has generally been well-received by owners and automotive critics alike. However, like any engine, it can be prone to certain issues over time, such as carbon buildup on the intake valves or problems with the timing chain tensioner. It's important to keep up with regular maintenance and address any issues promptly to ensure the longevity of the engine.

If someone is feeling 1.0 is underpowered, i had similar doubts and was thinking that i made a mistake not putting in more money for a 1.5. !! Oh boy i was completely wrong. just yesterday i had a journey with 5 family members in including me and a an extra toddler, with some luggages in the back. Although i dont recommend high speed , i was cruising on 150, thats the highest i have gone in any car in my lifetime. Even for a quick slow down and overtakes it didnt feel any less powerfull it was smooth. And yes there is a minor lag near lower rpms and lower speeds in higher gears . Buts its been 3000 kms with this beast now and i’ve understood the car to neglect that delay.
Untill I drive a 1.5 i will not have any doubts over my slavia 1.0!!!

The turbocharger with an electronically controlled bypass flap, as used in the K series Boosterjet 1.0 litre engine, allows for more precise control of the boost pressure and reduces turbo lag. However, it also adds complexity and cost to the system. The turbocharger with an integrated wastegate valve, as used in the 1.0 TSI engine, simplifies the system and reduces weight and space requirements. However, it may not be able to achieve the same level of boost pressure and responsiveness as the other type.

Munishji,Can you tell some information about Honda's VTEC TURBO engine selling in other markets in next video
Their 1.5 VTEC TURBO makes 180bhp stock where VW's makes 150bhp..
Also Honda not even considering turbo engines for indian market..If cost was the reason then vw wouldn't launched their tsi engines in india..
We can't forget that Honda launched City with Proper 1.5 VTEC, Accord V6 etc which was a rocket then realised that indians want mileage resulting VTEC to i-VTEC..
They should consider 1.0 and 1.5 VTEC turbos for India but I think they aren't considering because of mainly four reasons:
    1. Very less sales volume, less profit
    2. They r treating indian market as 3rd grade which they actually doing by not launching good cars like HRV, Civic,Crv,Brv etc
    3. Reliability issues because of india's poor fuel quality and they don't want to spoil their name in Reliability
    4. They want to focus on Hybrids instead of turbos as turbo engines delivers less fuel efficiency and hybrids delivers the most and indians want fuel efficiency that's why...
I think honda makes one of the best engines worldwide and known for their reliability also...Last year's F1 race says it all..

Very insightful. Very nice info on the 1.0 motor. Just 2 questions,
    1) who is the person who is dead sure that all the same cc engines, etc 2.0tdi, used with extremely different tune high or low by the manufacturers have the exact same crank shaft and related components to handle related power differences
    and
    2) you have not also mentioned that one more amongst the varied parameters to be thought about while upgrading power via remaps is always keeping in mind how much of additional torque your vehicle gearbox is built to handle.
P.S. -if I had a Polo I would liked to have had that sourced remap 🤩

The things which he is saying he read it from quora and TH-cam videos i dont understand how can you guys being "enthusiastic" promote 1 liter engine in mature markets shuch as america ,canda 1 liter 3 cylinder engine is known as the shitest engine it is an unreliable engine you can defend it how much you want facts cant be changed this engine below 2k rpm is so dead ac issues drive this engine in hills with 4 passengers ,lugage and with ac you will understand you have to constantly maintain it over 2k rpm and if you drive it over 2k rpm you will not get more tha 10,12 kmpl and one more thing talkng about engine of hondas pepole have slaped on turbo chrager to 1st gen honda city which poroduce over 180 bhp from an engine which was never designed for turbo charger and that to such and old gen engine and car stock engine has only 90 bhp and still that engine runs without and issues so chek the facts which manufacturerer makes strong engine they talk like only vw is the car manufacturerer in the world look at the japnese car history and industry why are toyota and honda dominating the wolrds most mature and competitive marktes such as America, Canada vw dosent even have 2 percent market share in america only 1.8 percent in 2023 why no one can even come near japanese car in reliability Honda's 1.5 iveteck produces 200 bhp stock from OEM which engine is more strong tsi or Honda i veteck ... ? .... And the most unreliable car of 2022 was a german car source car wow mat wotson if german cars engine are so strongly built why dont they last as japnese car and the thing he said produced ... 230 bhp .. from 1 liter engine .. fir how many miles or kilometres was that engine ran was that engine with same internal components same pistions same piston rings same connecting rods. ? What where the test conditions ..? Are the same components being used in mass market for the 1 liter engine.. ? formula 1 car produce over 600 bhp from 2 liter 2.5 liter engine but those engine are not built to last the perform for 1 race and the the engine is completely overhauled talking on paper is easy being practicall and how things and conditions are on roads is different.. and talking about coustomization jdm cars which brand cars are tuned and modified the most japanees cars are the most jdm cars the jdm culutre begam from japan .. braging abhout one company and only talking about same stuff shows your biased being biased its ok but pepole buy cars from their hard earned money dont promote the things which are not true.... German car are good in driving dynamics are robust have stiff chassis are very safe and with excellent driving dynamics but 1 liter engine is a realibale engine and has good drivabilty is just plain lie..... And look at formula 1 racing which is the pinnacle of technology of cars and their wins... You will get the ans

What a wonderful session Paaji! I was waiting for you both to discuss on remapping, especially on German engines. I am already exploring this industry since the past 2 years and I think you should start exploring it too. You will be much more impressed after knowing the tuning capabilities of Germans. And just a small correction for Munish Ji, Code 6 and all other leading tuning frims have already rolled out stage 2 remaps for the 1.0 TSIs and already cars are running those tunes. It is just the matter of time till the tools for reading and writing the 1.5 TSI ECUs are developed as their tunes already exist. Just imagine how fun these stage 2 cars would be! Really loved the video 😊

Can we have remap comparison with MPI and vtec engine? It is better to have apple (NA) to apple (NA) comparison. This will give the right picture of change in output after stage one.
BTW 1.0 turbo ivtec with stage 1 map is rated at 150 BHP and 250 NM.
Also when you talk about 1.0 TSI peak torque and compare it with 1.5 NA, can we factor in torque distribution of both the engines?

Well all this discussion leads me to think whether VAGs entered the Indian market just to cater to a small bunch of enthusiasts or to get a decent mkt share, volumes, etc. Somewhere their priorities seem a bit misplaced.
While I have no hopes from taigun/kushaq as they look a size smaller than their intended segment , Slavia/Virtus are great products and hope they do well. Also want to see polo GT back, which remains the best hot hatch till date !
One more observation- they reduced the fuel tank size of slavia/Virtus to 45 litres from the earlier 55 litres in Vento/Rapid......now that they are petrol only, they needed the larger tank for a good range.......and less pit stops😊......

I agree with this fact that these 1.0 TSIs will last. But saying that Japanese engines or Korean engines will not last as long is incorrect I feel.
If that would have indeed been the case, then why would terro***ts use Japanese vehicles in the desserts of Middle eastern countries?
Also any engine can be tuned to higher power specs including Hyundai engines.
These TGDI engines already do duty in other Hyundai vehicles worldwide in varying states of tune with max output at 200 bhp and I am sure that would be limited by the company to enhance life.
What Manish ji is saying about VW TSIs being tested to produce 272 bhp would be in very controlled conditions and would lower the life of their engines as well.
All in all I feel that the engineering has progressed to such a level now that it’s hard to pick a winner here.
Also the 1L TSI engine that is being used in VAG cars in India is basically from the EA211 range which basically is a 1.6L 4 cylinder block which may be chopped to a 3 cylinder as required and may be turbocharged as required.
Similar goes for a Hyundai engine.
So I personally believe that there should be no difference in the reliability and if at all there is, it would be marginal.

One point i would like to add/correct at 9:54..apart from only Map to differentiate power figures in Hyundai's Crdi engine was Variable geometry turbo and fixed geometry turbo.
Venue/ i20's old diesel 1.4 crdi used to come up with Fixed geometry Turbo (FGT) which was little lazy where as creta and verna also came with 1.4 crdi ( FGT) in lower models and In higher models 1.6 Crdi Variable geometry turbo that was more more punchier.
Nowadays only one 1.5 CRDI is coming but still in different turbos(FGT and VGT) with little difference in power and torque figures. FGT coming up with venue/ i20 i don't know if they have discontinued diesel variant in them but in creta/ verna they are giving only 1.5 Crdi VGT. Correct me if i am wrong.

    • @jagadeeshraj9862

They didn’t discontinued diesel in venue they discontinued diesel only in i20 and Verna …Instead New gen Verna got replaced with 1.5 Turbo Petrol …Still Creta Alcazar and venue having diesel with Ad blue filling due to BS6 phase 2 norms…

My Volkswagen Ameo Diesel has covered 2.16 lacs kms in 6.5 years, still going very strong....Few things would like to mention,
Still it easily touches the speed of 180 kms per hour .
Gives a fantastic mileage at an average speed of,
    70-75 - 35 plus
    100 km/hr - 27
    120 - 150 plus - 21
1st Clutch work done after 1.30 lacs, still no issues with AC.
Thats why i am a Huge fan of German Cars.
