    Thanks for the video! I was actually torn between these two lenses, and I know that the Art version of Sigma lenses are legendary among the many photography communities online. I had to make what I originally thought was a tough call and buy the 30mm 1.4 DC DN, and I honestly couldn't be happier with my decision. It's a beautiful lens, and far, far more affordable than the art variant. The bokeh on the art variant is very nice, but I can't justify spending over three times the amount I paid for the 30mm on a slightly different flavor of bokeh (among other small things).

      There's no good filters to fit that particular lens, so you'll have to get a step-up ring (40.5mm to 52mm) from Amazon. Then get the ND filter (52mm) from my description link! Hope this helps!

    This helps a bunch! Im in a hunch between getting Sigma contemporary (30mm) or the ART (35mm) + a speed booster set up for my gh5. Still a tough choice if not worried about pricing and more about performance cause the results are so similar! But when looking at the pricing it's a no brainer to go with the contemporary glass if trying to save money.

    Sigma lenses give the Fujifilm X-T3 like profiles on certain Sony e mount cameras! I posted some samples on the subject on my TH-cam channel using the SIgma 16mm DC DC f 1.4 Lens on the Sony a6500.

    Great video, this will help a lot for many other people. But in my eyes the difference isn't groundbreaking. Of course the Art series is a little bit better, because that's also what you pay for. But i'm fine with both my 30mm and 56mm contemporary series lenses for my Sony A6000.

    I agree with Weylles. Cost versus benefit is important. Any shortcomings of a lens has a work around. Learn how to use the old techniques to eliminate what we used to call "Camera shake" (Bracing straps, elbow on lamppost, putting tool down etc}. That will reduce need for OSS, IBIS etc. which make cameras and lenses bulkier, heavier, more fragile and a lot more expensive.

  •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This video is very informative! Kudos to you! Since you have both lenses, do you think that even a lens that has OSS such 35mm combined with the a6500 (IBIS), it's still going to be shaky? No such big difference?

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Nikolás Hasif Thanks! The OSS and IBIS is such a good combo to smooth your handheld shots! The IBIS is good enough by itself, but if you add the OSS from the lens, then it's even better!

    using the sigma 30mm on Crop, you will get 45mm eqv at 24mp, using the 35mm on Full Frame (sony a7-a7iii) you will get 35mm at 24mp. Using the 30mm on full frame in crop mode you will get 45mm at only 10mp. But the 35mm on the crop body you will get 52.5mm at 24mp. Hence the reason im getting the 35 to get full Mp usage on full frame. I already have the 30mm and it is still a monster on crop or full frame.

    Very nice review! I noticed that the AF ont he 30MM is slight a bit better. I was wondering though, do they have any kind of noise while focussing? I am on the verge of buying the 30MM as well. Just hoping that there won't be much noise.

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi. Great videos. Thanks so much for sharing! Sorry if this is a daft question. There is also a Sigma 30mm f1.4 native emount lens (i.e. use without mc11). Do you know if that's the same lens you're testing here, and if so what difference the mc11 makes to the AF performance? Or have I got very confused!

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN I used here is the native e-mount lens. The "DN" means it's a native Sony lens. The AF performance with the MC-11 adapters is good, but is slightly slower than the native Sony version. Hope this helps!

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +416 Dentistry I haven't used the 24mm yet, so I can't really say. I will say this though, I specifically chose the Sigma 30mm because I love the look of Sigma lenses, and the 30mm turns into 48mm (full-frame) which is close to the look of a 50mm lens. I love the look of that focal length because it's as close to what the human eye sees. Always go for a lens that has a distinct look that matches your visual style. Hope that helps!

    Sad not to exist the sigma 30mm F / 1.4 ART e-mount :(
    Only, A-mount, Canon and Nikon for what I researched ....
    The 30mm art seems to be a good lens, lighter and more discreet :)
    Good reviews, quality of their reviews are very good!
    I'm currently filming with a Nikon D3300, but I'm almost buying an A6500, but I just do not have $ for good starting lenses ...
    I think I'll buy a manual adapter, and wear Nikkor and Tokina lenses.

Just a suggestion ... of course ... totally manual use pq af never works well with these adapters, some do not even have this option, doubt is even with regard to quality and flares ...

      If I get my hands on those adapters, I definitely will! Although, based on my friends' experience, the Metabones Speedbooster is the solid choice! Plus, they just added a recent firmware update to to enhance the autofocus. Hope this helps!

    • @georgskt
      @georgskt 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      cool :)
      But it would be interesting to make a comparison to a first line adapter like Metabones, against the low cost, because the difference in cost is striking, especially here in Brazil, are high import taxes, where ends every 50, 100 dollars make a huge Difference in the end.
      Maybe even have reviews out there, but not with quality of comparison that you do in similar and very explanatory situations.
      Anyway, good work bro :)

    Do you think 30mm is a good choice for food photography ??
    Thanks a lot for your vids :)

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say go wider because you want to add some drama to take photos of food! If you're using the Sony a6500, I'd go with the Sigma 16mm lens

    • @Elizabeth-ey5gx
      @Elizabeth-ey5gx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I do love some "drama" effect in photos. Thanks for the fast reply!
      I've actually had an EOS 650D for years but will be updating it to 5DS in a few months. Still a good idea to go wider?
      On another note, how wide is enough for portraits?? (without having a fisheye effect)

    • @SidneyDiongzon
      @SidneyDiongzon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For portraits, I'd wouldn't go wider than 35mm.

    I would not even consider paying 3 times the amount for a lens that does not out perform the other by at least twice as much. I would be happy to take wedding shots all day with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN Lens over the Art! It is just not cost effective, mind you when it comes to Lens Snobbery then we have to have the Art don't we?

  • @alexgoriatchenkov

    30 mm almost 1/3 price from 35mm. That's full frame prices. For home and more, crop is best option. TY for nice side by side comp.

    would it be because the 5mm difference makes the 35mm art more bokehlicious? just wondering, coz the closer you get, it might have a much smoother bokeh? Im really torn in choosing between the 2 lenses :( cant decide

    • @SidneyDiongzon

    • @mproductionsmusik
      @mproductionsmusik 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah exactly the 5mm difference does increase a little the bokeh and the illusion of being more on focus because it closer to the subjet. Syaing that the art could still be altitle sharper on other test but i dont think its that of a huge difference for the price difference!
