  • Today we take a look at some orchids you wanted to see updated and see how they've been doing since we last talked about them!
    ▼▼▼More info bellow!▼▼▼
    In order of appearance, the orchids are:
    1. Lycaste aromatica, still recovering and announcing only one flower this season
    2. Dendrobium anosmum x cretaceum has opened his blooms and they smell like Christmas!
    3. Paraphalaenopsis labukensis is growing faster than I thought it would
    4. The Phalaenopsis keikis are bouncing back and probably next season we will also get some blooms
    5. Maxillaria tenuifolia has started vegetative growth and is full of new shoots!
    6. Vanilla planifolia has almost reached the top of the rod and I still don;t know what to do next
    7. The Vandas are almost completely recuperated, but the best results will be next year
    8. Phalaenopsis Mini Mark is in bloom and spreads joy all around :)
    9. Phalaenopsis Liodoro spreads fragrance and is a sequential bloomer :P
    10. The Zygopetalum is boring but alive
    11. The Cymbidiums are doing well on the terrace and will not be repotted this year

    Yes, the liodoro is definitely a sequential bloomer, mine is also always in bloom and keeps all its spikes, branches out and keeps blooming from them. Three flower spikes so far and I just noticed a fourth spike started to grow last week, happy happy happy. Liodoro is a must have!

    Glad the Zyg is alive and growing. :) How about an update on the mystery orchids from Germany? I'm curious about the ID's, and I'd love to see what you did with the Trichoglottis.

    You can train a vanilla orchid to grow up or down or in circles. Ive been growing mine round and round and up and down a 4 foot meal trellis for many years.

    Also, my cousin's parents grows cymbidiums in soil. They're the most hardiest orchids I have grown so feel free to experiment on them. You'll be quite surprised when you see how hardy they are!!😮HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

    What is the ID on the phal with the unusual color you talked about? Also thanks for your advice the other day! It seems to be working and I'm glad because it's one of the new hybrids with the big lip at the bottom and I've been wanting one since I saw it in one of Bill's videos. So hopefully I can get it to rebloom! Love your videos and appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge!

    Hey I’m needing some advice about my Dendrobium anosmum . It’s in a hanging basket and I accidentally dropped the plant and broke the cane 😢. The broken cane is full of green leaves. Is it saveable? Should I try to plant it in media or what methods do you recommend or should I just throw it out. Help please. Great informative videos by the way! 👍🏼

    My two cents for cymbidiums. I grow them for 10 years in bark outside underneath my tree. morning sun and late afternoon sun. The leaves will burn if you feed them on a very hot day. Please be carefull for midday sun. Happy growing in bark chunks,

    Danni, did you say a few months ago that your Maxillaria Ben Berliner was producing lots of new pseudobulbs from the base of the plant, but not growing upwards? Mine is doing the same thing. Wondering if you figured out why. In my case, I'm suspecting over-fertilization.

  • @shinrin777
    @shinrin777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regarding the vanilla, mine grows around a coconut rope that is attached to the ceiling, the aerial roots receive no water or fertilizer and it grows without a problem. Only the roots in the pot receive water and fertilizer.
    You could spray the aerial roots with water if you decide to go with the rope which is very practical as all leaves receive light no matter where they are and the plant is easy to move if needed.
    Vanilla plants need to be at least 3 years old to bloom.
    I recently acquired a Dendrobium Sa-nook 'Snow Jade' it has pastel green petals and a pastel purplish lip. I'm not much of a dendrobium fan but this one is gorgeous!

    • @ninathesupercat925
      @ninathesupercat925 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speaking of the vanilla, I recently bought one and I want to repot it so I can put a coconut stake in the pot as well. but I don't have any terrestrial orchid medium so I was wondering if leca and seramis are okay as well...?

    • @shinrin777
      @shinrin777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      actually an allpurpose soil mix is better as it grows in the soil in nature as well. Seramis and leca may be too airy for it.

    • @ninathesupercat925
      @ninathesupercat925 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      shinrin777 I don't really have the opportunity to buy a terrestrial mix except on the internet but the shipping prices are too high most of the time. Can I just use a normal bark mix for phalaenopsis?

    • @shinrin777
      @shinrin777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the allpurpose soil mix I meant normal soil bought from a hardware/garden store for any indoor plants, or you can just grab som soil from outside but do make sure to put it in an oven for at least 30min on cca120C to desinfect it.
      In nature it grows in normal soil that is not too sandy.

    • @shinrin777
      @shinrin777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      bark chips might be too airy, I also never tried bark chips with a vanilla

    Danny, please, read this comment, ok? I just want to say that your intro is very quiet, and whenever I start watching your videos on my philips radio/cdr speakers I bearly hear the video, and I always bring up the volume, and then you start talking and my ears start to bleed :/ Please, could you make your intro a bit louder? btw, I am amazed on your ability to grow cymbidiums so nicely, I have my cymbidium, and regardless to what I do, it just simply withers in my eyes bit by bit, and I can't do anything about it, I think he hates me :( Nevertheless great video! And please, think about loudening the intro :)

    • @donnamanning1975
      @donnamanning1975 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How odd! It does not do that to me at all, in fact the lower intro is welcomed because so many start off screechingly loud. :(

  • @rayleneevans4166

    Please don't put your cymbidiums in soil. I thought I knew more than everybody else and put mine in soil about 30 years ago and lost all of them. Every one. I now have 2 big boys that are in big chunks of fir bark, and 2 dwarf sisters in small seramis. The dwarfs get fed 20-20-20 and the big guys get 30-10-10. Everybody's happy. Soil will choke them to death.
