    Thank you, Danni! I am very excited to have flower spikes and roots sprouting on 4 of my 7 orchids. A year ago I was a failure and kept tossing out dead or shriveled orchids, but I got extremely determined after watching your videos. You are the Angel Orchid Whisperer. 😇💖

    This video is a great idea Dani! Just observing those new growths and developing flower spikes can be one of the most enjoyable aspects of the hobby. I also share your pain regarding the difficulty in differentiating neofinetia falcata new growths from flower spikes. I had what looked like 3 new flowerspikes on my shutennou (they had that tulip shape), but they turned out to be new growths. I do, however have one flower spike on each of my neos located on the most mature growths. And, most of the new growths I've seen sprouted from the lowest areas on the plant, often on the bare rhizome. So, in that sense, I still think location matters for flower spikes of this species.

    Very interesting and worth learning more. I have a mini-phal with something pushing out from the 2nd leaf that is really fat, bright green and looks nothing like any root or spike. In fact, she just finished her 3rd blooming, since purchasing 1 1/2 yrs ago. She's healthy, strong leaves, good color with a mystery growing. We'll be patient and see.

    Glad I found your channel. I was given an orchid a few years ago, not knowing a single thing about their care. Im an avid gardener outside but have never tried an orchid before. The second year produced new leaf and I trimmed the spike above a node and it bloomed again. Right afterward, the spike died back. There were no more viable nodes and I trimmed it away. Since then, I got another leaf, 2 more roots and now im waiting patiently to see my first flower spike produced from the stalk itself. Im envious of your knowledge. Do your interests take you into other types of plants? Just curious. Over this past winter, I ventured down to south Florida and went to a botanical garden and got to see orchids in a semi- natural setting with them growing along the tree boughs along with the hundreds of specimens inside the protection of a conservatory. It really got my juices flowing, so to speak. Looking forward to feasting on your knowledge!!

    Thank you Danni for all your informative videos. I was watching a few of your other self watering videos and came across one where you did a semi Hydroponics and mentioned that the top layer of Leca was drier than the bottom layer and that there was problems of some orchids. When I was watching you build the self watering system I noticed that you put the wick into the top container along the bottom of the top container from one side to the other and then into the water reservoir. So I was thinking the water comes through the wick into the bottom. Can you run a second wick through the side into the top layer and then out the side of the top container and then into the reservoir. That way the wick can take the water into the top layer directly. That way the water won't only be at the bottom but through out the different layers. If you can only put 1 x wick in then run the wick from the one hole in the bottom and then out a hole in the side near the top. That way the wick is diagonal from bottom to top and then out the side back into the reservoir. Then the wick can move the water from the bottom all the way to the top.

    I think the Trichopilia suavis is creating a new growth. Flower spikes should look a bit pointier and not so flat even at this stage. But I'm only 70% sure😶 because these are still very young.

    Is this a division of the huge tenuifolia you got from Roger or is it your old one that finally started growing properly? I like that one very much too... But I'm afraid it might require quite big temperature differences to trigger blooms 🤔 (?)

    Great series! Keep doing them! I have 2 questions which are not related to today's topic but anyways.
    1 do summer blooming phals need more /natural/ light than the standard flowershop ones? I think my phal bear queen is a bit sad under my artificial light.
    2 what could cause my brassavola binosa wabash valley new roots to get brown sunken lines before touching the medium. I don't suspect it is fertilizer burn.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maya! Ok let's take them one by one 1. In my experience some can handle more light, some don't look so good in bright light. If you feel like your orchid could use more light you can definitely try to offer brighter conditions, as long as there is no hot sun, it's ok! 2. Hmmm how about the water you use? Did it touch the new roots? How is humidity? Maybe conditions are a bit too dry, or the water has some salts, or substances, that dry on the root. Do all roots have this damage?

    • @mayastoyanova3020
      @mayastoyanova3020 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MissOrchidGirl i water my bc binosa with osmosis water /14 ppm/ and i use small quantities of ferrtilizer. Yes, all the new roots have this damage, actually the old ones, the ones that the plant came with, were rotten and i removed them. And now the orchid has only these 3-4 new roots. It is a recent purchase, i got her a month ago. Probably it has to do with humidity. I'll try do mist the remainimg roots regularly. Thank you for your response! Have a good night!
