  • My Dendrobium Little Sweet Scent is another that prefers a winter rest. This orchid grew better for me this year as compared to the Dendrobium anosmum. The canes are longer and overall the plant seems more healthy. The winter rest will be no more fertilizer, and minimal water only as needed.

I repot all my Dendro Orchids - doing well .
Last year I cut some keiki - less flowers bloom in Spring .
I love Dendrobium and Zygopetalum - easy care .

Update 11/16: Still outside with temps as low as 50 degrees F. More leaf yellowing. I have only misted the plants a few times during warm daytimes. Doing fine!

A friend gave me a bunch of Anosmums from her home. I attached some to my Frangipani tree in January. The canes are healthy and we are nearing the blooming season here. But I don't think they'll bloom as they have only been mounted for about 7 months. One has developed 4 canes. We'll see

Good luck! Would love to see a photo if it blooms and I’ll share it in the community area: TheOrchidHut@gmail.com

I’m still waiting for winter resting as they all grow indoors and I’m just never sure when to start the resting.

The terminal leaf is usually the best sign. Sometimes the canes will still grow a little thicker after that, but not always.

Love your videos, 'cause always something new to learn. How long is it going to take for a Den. kiki to grow into a matured cane with an end leaf? My Dens (nobly type) won't show end leaves all the way through winter time. Not sure there is any meaning to winterize them.

Lots of unpredictability depending on your growing environment. Den. keikis usually have to be repotted, then produce new canes that mature in the next and subsequent years. Thanks for watching!

Any updates on this? Mine came with one small cane with leaves; a second large cane grew over the summer, but now the smaller cane has dropped all leaves and the larger cane has started to too. I know it's deciduous, is it supposed to get down to *zero* leaves before flowering? The roots on mine look super healthy and I've kept watering low once growth stopped.

This was the updated video for my orchids: th-cam.com/video/wpoaa3rVhiw/w-d-xo.html
Yes, zero leaves, bright winter light, and no water for 4-6 weeks is supposed to be the formula for spring blooming. I was not successful last year and just got keikis on the canes. This year I’m trying winter resting indoors. Not sure what will happen yet. Some canes still holding on to a few leaves as I type this in mid-January.
