Blanca, you can do whatever you want take them off and Mount them or leave them on if you want a really big plant with tons of flowers. Leaving the keikis on Will not hurt the plants they produce their own roots, thus, they supply the plant with water and nutrition.
Keikis can also bloom with flowers attached to the main plant. So it’s just a matter of personal preference if you want to take them off or leave them on, or just take some off and leave the rest on. One commentor said they would drain the main plant, this is not true. Especially when they have their own roots which they all eventually get.

I recently bought a dendrobium anosmum and making research in AOS I heard Dr Ron McHatton saying that the cause of this plant producing Keikis like that it is because in the dormancy period usually from halloween to easter or after October the plant can't be fertilize and the water has to be reduced just to avoid shriveling the canes , I know this video was recently after you got your dendrobium and maybe you already know about it but it could help someone else , Thank you very much

I mounted anosmums on the frangipani tree in January 2022. Left them alone. Noticed canes growing - 3. So its July they're starting to dangle. I think theyll bloom next season.

Good Morning PhalPal Blanca. I am happy to see that someone other than me needs some help. I have a keiki and not sure what to do. Uncle Rick has forsaken the kids lol. Congradulations on being a grandma. The whole plant looks wonderful. We are waiting on the rain as well. Happy Growing from your PhalPal Durrell

Hi, Blanca. When the keikes are about 3" long I remove them and put them back with the mami and they need fertilizer.

I did take some of mines off when they became independent, by cutting the cane one inch or so from either side of the roots. They themselves will become parent plants after a bloom. Happy storming yalls...

I understand what you’re saying that’s the same reason why I repot my anosmum to a hanging pot , it gives a lot of keiki but what I have noticed is when I remove them they take forever to grow and the ones I left on eventually became strong 💪 and slowly attaches itself to the bark medium in the pot and making the pot a fuller plant with lots of blooms . The roots eventually finds its way to the pot medium at a faster rate love ❤️ the video thanks for sharing

I remove them myself and either give it it's own mount or add it right into/onto the mother plant.
Dend anosmum/nestor/superbum/aphyllum are all similar in care and growth. You could mount some on a tree I'd think.
And contrary to popular belief keikis do not drain the mother plants energy because they develop their own root system.

Not an expert on growing dendrobium orchids but here is my opinion. I would leave them attached to mother plant. Perhaps Ed from Ed's Orchids could help. He is quite knowledgeable about dendrobium orchids.

Lisa G.Flynn rain is non stop 🙄 I’ll take advantage of all this rain and see if I attach. Only removing one. The other is too close to base so I think I’ll leave it Thanks!

If it were mine...I would remove the major part of them, you could leave one or two if they are close to the main base, but those out on the stem a distance should not be left there to crowd the plant.
I was watching someone mount the aphyllum keikis side by side on a piece of wood, I liked the idea of lining each plant up in a row so each could fall in a nicer "fall" when in bloom. Last May-(2018) I purchased a mounted anosmum from someone at the Redlands Festival.. Its name is Den. Little Sweet One. These were mounted harem-scarem and now with alot of Keikis the mother plant seems crowded. I took some away and now I have two nice mounts...on bark. The newer is side by side..and alot more attractive to look at while growing. You will be pleased to do the same, I promise. Be distinct and precise with the side by side mounting. Crossing my fingers for you.

If the dendrobium keiki has a decent size and has enough roots. I would recommend removing them since they are drawing energy from the mother plant.

Hi bianca can you please make n update on this anasmums

  • @bisaya2
    @bisaya2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

hi Blanca, from what i've read in online forums, keikes form when the den. anosmum is given too much moisture during dormancy. in some forums, they say to completely hold off watering during dormancy and let the canes/pseudobulbs shrivel. you may want to experiment with this trick.

Even with a shade house or a pergola you’re orchids will still get a lot of rain on them! Plus with one of them you will have to worry about hurricanes! I know! I had one taken down! Been though 3 eyes of them.. Just some information !

Remove them, they are plenty large enough and have enough roots, then do whatever you want with them (send them to someone, mount them on a tree (cover the roots with sphagnum if you do or they will dry up and die), pot them). All they are doing right now is sucking energy from the cane they are attached to.
