Why do you post such great content? I’m looking to buy a Jeep TJ but don’t need one and this only makes me want one even more! Keep up the great stuff!!
I was in one today just very nice upgrade from the JK, and with a trim level to each persons desires, its a match made in heaven:) Unfortunately the diesel not coming out until 2021:(
TJs are awsome. You can build a TJ for much less than the cost of a new jeep. I bought a 05 LJ added 4" lift, 35s and front/rear dana 44 with ox lockers for under 30k.
"Here we are staring the Rubicon trail, I doubt it'll get through the first 500 feet of the trail..." 10 minutes later - "I doubt it will get through a 4th of it..." half an hour later - "Here we arrive at the Rubicon trail!" Two hours later.... still driving it and still complaining...
I was thinking the same. Seems to have written off the Sahara before giving it a go. I can only imagine saving myself 10k and putting 35s and a lift kit on this would give me more than what i would use it for.
Well said!!! Overland Bound is committed to helping people get out in whatever rig is available! Content like this...”Get yourself a Rubicon because, well, you just want one”...goes against every ideal of the community.
@@SoberNomad I bought new in 2013 a wrangler sport for $20,000 OTD manual, soft top (for some reason had sahara rims) and with air conditioning being the only option... stock l was able to go everywhere my fathers Rubicon went. Why would I spend an additional $25,000 if I can do the same with mine? Even if I upgraded certain parts of my jeep it would still be well under the price of the Rubicon.
Thanks for the video basically in my opinion all you need is 35inch tires 3inch lift and a sway bar disconnect and a winch and you will have no problem getting through the Rubicon Trail as far as paying all the Extra money for a Rubicon Edition yeah they are totally equipped with everything but like myself and most people we can't afford it so by doing what I mentioned with some upgrades that's all you need to do
I agree, driver skill makes more of a difference usually. But in this case the Sahara just went where they pointed it and they still complained somehow.
The comment section on this video is very helpful for those of us just getting into this hobby. So basically, I don't need a Rubicon, a Sport will do. Thank you everyone.
He's specifically talking about (this) Rubicon trail. He's not bashing on a vehical he loves. What's happening, is he's showing an audience the stock Sahara limitations. This tail is no easy feat. But you catch a birds I view of (things) that he's engaging you with.
Exactly what I thought why not talk about that it was truly doing it without that price tag if the Rubicon. Is the Rubicon better yes, but cool knowing what the Sahara is capable of
Good to know. I don't have the time to go off-roading as much as I would like. But I want to know I have a capable vehicle when I do. Most of the time it will just be commuting and I live 5mins from the beach. I don't want to buy more than I need. Thanks.
The sport is below the Sahara in hierarchy. Also this trail is legendary for a reason, why do you think those other guys had full on rock crawlers at the beginning. It wasn't long ago that no vehicle right from the dealership could do it, even the older Rubicon's needed bigger lifts and tires than what they came with. Watch some other videos about it if you don't believe me, this trail is not for stock vehicles. No one rents a stock sport for this.
@@rjhay22 like he said, they just arrived at the start of the rubicon trail. It does get rougher then they've shown but I do believe you're partially correct. For the video's sake they try to make them look as bad as possible.
All this Channel is is Roman COMPLAINING ! Also for your information not everyone can afford a Rubicon or get to use free jeeps. NOT SURE WHY I WATCH TFL? You have the best job in the world try and respect it !! The complaining is getting old !!!!!!!!!!
Who died and made you content judge?? Your comment is negative. Your handle is negative. Your face is negative. What this video shows is the truth in fact. You're probably not used to that. That's your problem. No one else's. So go back to your cartoons and trending trash videos. This channel is for real people with real purpose.
I took it to be Roman playing the foil to Tommy's enthusiasm. trying to give both sides. though the channel in general does favor jeep(fiatdodge) very heavily, in other regards they try to provide a pretty balanced perspective. i think that is just what hes doing.
I do appreciate Tommy’s excitement and enthusiasm. He’s also very well versed when it comes to technical details and has a unique way of getting his point across.
Terrible vid! Too much complaining! If you're gonna whine the entire time....just wait til your mood lifts. Love the channel but this vid is energy sapping, two thumbs way down guys!
sheldon C man you are lucky that Sam Johnson did not cut you down for commenting! Sheldon I felt the same way watching this video. Roman and Tommy just did not feel good.
Very little difference in the Sahara and the Rubicon - locking diffs, 3.21 vs 4.10 gears and tires (which can be changed). The fact is, the Rubicon is overkill for all but the most difficult trails and rocks. With better tires, the Sport and the Sahara will go 90% of the places the Rubicon will, and for a lot less money.
Thats true, i have a bone stock 2021 Willys and i absolutely kill the black diamond trails here in California which are the hardest of trails. I cant imagine what in the world i would need diff lockers for.
Come on guys! For the little bit of rocks on the trail that you encountered, the ride would have been no different than a Rubicon! This has got to be the worst video you have ever made!
The Rubicon has multiple lines through most of the obstacles suitable for different levels of vehicles, and the gnarliest obstacles have bypasses. If you take the easier lines you can do it in many stock 4x4s. Jeep did it in Cherokee Trailhawks with only the addition of rock rails. I remember Four Wheeler magazine doing the Rubicon in a bone stock TJ back in 1997.
It's all about perspective, boys. You're complaining that 32s are too small and you don't have locks? Holy crap - the old Jeeps didn't used to do the Rubicon with lockers - and 32s used to be considered hilariously large. Oh, how spoiled you have become. ; )
In fairness / those jeeps had a much shorter wheelbase and could maneuver around way easier on smaller tires ... they were also significantly lighter and momentum carried you further
Hey so I'm looking for a hunting vehicle. I used to have an XJ that was not 4WD and used to do great off-road but am looking for something that can almost do everything a 4wheeler can. What do you guys think, looking forward to your feedback? I was thinking a wrangler.
So wining video full of complains. What happened 15 years ago or even 20 year ago that Rubicon trail still there and people drove trough it with more basic tech on more basic cars?. So, because now you have a off road build factory truck like the Wrangler Rubicon that doesn't means the none Rubicon could make it with or with out style. I think today's standard by journalist / car review people are to high on the point that aren't realistic. You don't need a $60K + build rig to do a trail. You may need to watch 4WD action channel from Australia and see how a stock SUV and a Isuzu pickup truck with just tires (not oversize) 31 inch can keep up and take the challenge way worst than a Rubicon trail. Just need skills, equipment and commitment, not a Jeep Rubicon with all the gadget.
also its relatively easy to just engage all locker, disconnect the swaybar and just drive over the obstacle. Its way more fun when you have to WORK hard to pick the correct line, to drive this line. I think its the best part of offroading is when its challenging. Not when you just drive whenever.
@@AndyLights totally agree. Its like making off-road for dummies. Make you less pilot and you wont develop skills. Same with all the new driving aids on new vehicles. Its supposed to make the driving safer but make thr people dumber and dependable of the tech instead learning how to drive properly.
The Sahara rims are bigger. The tires are mild. Put some 33x10.5-12.5R15 siped mudders on any 4WD Wrangler and it could do the Rubicon Trail. Even the YJ/TJ 2.5L and/or Sahara were pretty capable on rocky trails. Remove the YJ trackbars and anti-swaybar for offroading. 30-31" siped mudders complement stockers well. All the Sahara needs is decent tires and decent recovery gear. All 4WD JKs/JLs have come with BrakeLock, Quadracoil, and at least a 2.72:1 4Low. They're all ridiculously capable for crawling most trails, in the right hands. Just air down the tires and disconnect the anti-swaybars.
That jeep did awesome for being the Sahara. Most people would love to do that amount off roading with their jeep and that be enough. Most people don't want spend 60 grand on a vehicle and dent, scratch and bend it up on the extremely hard rubicon trail. Light off roading with my family would be a great time and there is nothing wrong with that. Great job jeep Sahara
the Sahara is actually better than the Sport..has better tires and suspension.. idea that it's a highway runner is total bull..it's midway between a sport and rubi . Mine goes where I need over rocks.. etc and the stock tires are bigger than most ran 10 years ago. These guys are clowns..one day jeep is king..next they're sucking Bronco dik to get Ford back in favour...
@@nickolask8086 the only mechanical difference is the gearing. Sahara has 3:72 gears, sport has 3:21. because the sport is less money, you will have more money to spend on things like lifts, bumpers, tires, engine and exhaust mods. when i bought my jk in 2014, the Sahara had the gearing, and leather and the sound system over the sport, that was about it. if i would have got the factory tow package i would have gotten the 3:72 gears. with the JL's thing might have changed but most likely not. if you want the "whole package" get a Rubicon, if you want to make the Jeep your own and not brake the bank doing it, get an upscale sport B (power windows, AC, Stereo upgrades ect) or if you want to save all the money you can get an entry level jeep with no power anything and a manual transmission and build what you want from the ground up.
When I bought my first Jeep (JKU Sport S) the first thing I realized is these stock Jeeps are way more capable off road than you think they are. Now I have a Gladiator in the Sport S trim because I like to build my Jeeps up and put what I want on them. Buying a Rubicon is a waste of money for me when you are just going to strip the factory stuff off anyway. Majority of Rubicons I see are at the mall. Majority of Jeeps I see out actually wheeling are Sport models that are affordable and built up. Rubicons are nice, but not necessary to have a good time off road.
I've got a JLU sport S and can fully agree. Was taking it through multiple trails out in Colorado completely stock with street tires and had no issues 🤣was kinda funny driving my stock jeep through the same spots that these lifted jeeps with big offroad tires were going through. They really are super capable vehicles when stock
I did the Rubicon trail back in 98 in a 2dr STOCK Jeep Wrangler Sport. So yeah any of the Wranglers can make it, as long as you take the right lanes...
Roman said "That's what the trail is named after" referring to the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Actually, I think the package was named after the trail when the Wrangler Rubicon came out in 2003.
Another typical TFL video. Stupid title: "Can it do it?" Video: "I don't feel like finding out." Insert Roman complaining for 10 minutes. The end. Poor Tommy was not feeling well enough to offer some counter-points to Roman's whining, so overall, this video was disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I still like this channel, but sometimes the things I usually don't get too worked up about, just annoy me.
Stock Wranglers have been running the Rubicon for over 30 years, you just take the lines suitable for stock vehicles and take the bypasses around the gnarliest obstacles.
We don’t have this we don’t have that dude it’s a Jeep made for that type of driving that’s why crossovers don’t have any of Sahara’s hardware . I rented a Sahara and off-road the snot out of it never got stuck or needed more from it
Sounds like you guys had a rare off day. At no point did I get the impression you *wanted* it to succeed. Also, back when my 4Runner was stock I was taking the tires down to 15 psi regularly for off-roading. 28 psi might as well be wood on a Jeep.
If it says trail rated, then it can do the Rubicon. It just depends on how far you’re willing to take your pretty little Limited. Also, how good you are at navigating a trail.
If you are any kind of off-roader, you know you never straddle a rock. Looks to me you picked that rock at just the right height to prove a point. However, your point is mute as the stock Rubicon taken on the same approach would have done the same thing.
Wow you guys would have not made it in the 60s and 70s, all the 4X4's you could get had open diff's the average tire was a mud and snow 8" wide X15. I can tell you from experience that we with such un 4X4 worthy 4X4's took on some pretty harsh trails, yes you got bounced around and yes you had to learn when to use the measly 185 horse power or in the case of old jeeps 45 horse powerand how to pick a line. That my boys is the fun of going off road. If you want smooth ride and no wheel slip then I suggest you stay on the paved senic biway.
guys...you gotta stop equating a part time 4wd system with having a center locker. There is a really big difference between a center differential and an input/output drive coupler. In the case of the Sahara, it either has commend-trac with the NV241 GII part time transfer case, or Select-Trac with the MP3022 Part time with auto function. In the case of the former, it's just a collar that locks the front output to the rear output. In the case of the later the front output is connected to the rear output by way of a clutch pack that can bind and unbind as needed so that the computer can command torque to the front axle when slip is detected. Neither of these have a center differential, and neither are full time 4wd. The difference here being a full time 4wd system with a center differential is always sending torque to both axles, where an auto system like the MP3022 sends torque to the front only as commanded by the computer or the user. It's like a reverse crossover system, but with 4 low as well. Hope Tommy is feeling better. That's no fun, props to keeping at the job.
This. Fun videos guys (although clearly not AS fun in this one), but this needs to be tightened up in future content. 6:22 in the video. The Wrangler Rubicon does not have a center differential (and neither does the Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro recently seen in another video), and thus no center differential locking ability. The advantage of having a center differential (be it limited slip, TorSen, 50/50, or otherwise) is to allow for on-road, full-time AWD performance. Transfer case ≠ center differential or center locker.
Not really the Rubicon comes with more standard features then the sport like power windows and locks, android auto, climate control, so if you like those features and equipped a sport the same way you couldn't add 33inch tires, larger front axle, a disconnecting sway bar, front and rear lockers, 2 inch lift, and 4.10 gears for less. Look at the price of a sport s with the technology package and a base Rubicon those will have similar equipment levels, if you are OK with manual windows and locks you might be able to get a base sport and modify it for less
@@ChrisH421 I test drove a sport with power windows and locks. It was 28k, for the extra 28 k for a Rubicon I can do a lot! Rubicon is an awesome off-road ready rig
@@saltycashew9807 you have a sport s the base package comes with manual windows and locks the Rubicon comes standard with that also jlu and jku are equipped different so stuff like android auto and Apple carplay are standard on a Rubicon but optional on all sports
So you did the meander to the Rubicon Trail....Hell, a Subaru could have done to spots you did. I was expecting a smash fest to the end...disappointment is an understatement.. I could mosh my Altima farther than that..."Altima does Rubicon Trail" lol.
I own a 2017 jeep Wrangler Sahara JKU… The “city slicker” that you disparage here. I particularly enjoy how you had so much doubt for nine minutes in this video and then you move the goalposts at nine minutes and 40 seconds when the Sahara did not get stopped.
My 2019 Sahara with a 2.5 inch spacer lift and 33” tires was absolutely amazing and performed so well. Had I been aware of the advantages of disconnecting the sway bar, I would’ve gotten a quick release kit and been much more capable. It had the 2.0 turbo and I loved that engine!
With the TJ the Sahara you got an upgraded rear axle a Dana 44 with most have the d-35 and the JK the Sahara is just a pretty upgrade package isn't even built any better. So at that point why not just do the sport and build it better
So you emphasized how it didn't have lockers but declined to talk about Jeep's Brake Lock Differential System (BLD) that is used on their vehicles that don't have lockers, it works extremely well.
I would like to add some perspective, in 1981 I drove around most of Australia before it was tarmac in an old Land Rover (before it was called a 'Defender'), and then in the mid-1980s for four years I got paid (but not much) to drive old British Bedford M type (4x4) trucks on overland expeditions with 20-25 paying passengers in the back from London to Kathmandu (3 months) and London to Johannesburg (5 months) and all around South America (5 months driving). For that kind of trip, getting through the rough stuff was a challenge and the huge relief to be back on a smooth road surface or even graded gravel was the goal. I recently bought a used 2018 JL Sahara with nearly all the extras and I can choose to get a lift and so on but I have no desire to go rock hopping and it's extremely capable anyway out of the box. Ok yes, I secretly wanted a Rubicon mostly for those diff locks and electronically disconnecting sway bar, but could not justify the extra money, and the limited-slip differential (aka anti-spin) will most probably be enough. The average speed of a vehicle on the Rubicon Trail is rumored to be less than human walking pace. Hmmm. But talking to the sales guy he said 'but people like to do it for fun' and I get that, I did Hells Revenge last year in an ATV and yes it was lots of fun but for my sole daily driver but still trail-ready ride I wanted something more comfortable, modern with a Bluetooth and a backup camera and yet still capable if needed. Mostly I'm still with my 1980s self that the rough stuff is something to get through and out the other side. I've been on washboard roads where it's better to go faster to smooth out the intensity of the vibrations or watch as the screws holding the dashboard together start to unscrew themselves. My 1981 self crossing Queensland and the Northern Territory in Australia dodging road trains would have loved the Sahara.
I simply upgraded the stock 255/70r18 tires to 275/5/r18 BG Goodrich KO2 (33'2 tire height about 1" taller the stock Rubi tires) jeep does fine... tires make a big difference with commance since and speed approach
My 2018 JLU Sport S was like 35 and I was offroading in Colorado within like 2 weeks of getting it. You really don't need anything fancy when it comes to Wranglers, they're incredibly capable even stock
Why do you post such great content? I’m looking to buy a Jeep TJ but don’t need one and this only makes me want one even more! Keep up the great stuff!!
Enjoyed the real world test. I would have not attempted to take the Wrangler on the Rubicon trail. I have travelled the Rubicon trail and it not only hard on equipment it is hard on the body. It was a fantastic 2 day drive into the camp. Thanks for sharing Roman and Tommy super of TFL Cars.
I have the 2024 4xe Willy’s it does amazingly crawling over the rocks like a little toy car lol it is truly amazing and it never rolled over on us and everybody thought the 4xe was awesome. I live in the cascade mountains so now we wait for 3 to 4 feet of snow can’t wait lol
Sorry, but time for some harsh criticism. This was a clickbait title and a pretty negative video overall. I understand that all shoots can’t go well, but this is the best you can scratch together after editing? Come on. I hope Tommy is feeling better.
Come on...I ran the Rubicon in '86 in a manufacturer CJ7 i6 100% OEM.. just some careful spotting from the guys and no problems at all, all the obstacles with out a hitch and no winch line or anything. That sahara is more than capable, you will scrape those steps and a bit of under-carriage but it will make it. What a Biaised video!!
Rubicon is tough Fordyce is even tougher. Tj n even YJs have been doing them for years. Low 4x4 the diff get you thru. Ground clearance is the issue 35” on older jeeps 32” will conquer them. Just gotta go slow n pick your lines
Minor note. If a locker is on and a wheel is off the ground the wheel can actually get 100% of the power going to that axle so in that case it's possible for a single wheel on a locked axle to get 50%. That's the amazing thing about lockers!
Knife to a gunfight? Except, as the special ops teams reply, "Knives never run out of bullets." Now if a Wrangler Rubicon could only get 30mpg on the highway...
@@JeepsLostLegend It shows a level of ignorance that an "offroad" channel shouldn't have. Roman has no idea what he's actually talking about when it comes to running trails. Stock TJs have ran this trail just fine.
I love TFL but this was a waste of a video. You can tell Roman doesn't want to be there, its raining, he thinks its a waste of time and the negativity pours through. Stock the Sahara is probably not the best for the Rubicon trail but we all know that. It could have been fun to see what can the Sahara actually do and can you have fun doing it? But this was missed.
That fact is that EVERY little bit helps. That being said however, you do NOT need a big bad vehicle to have fun off road, PERIOD. It depends on where you want to go and how much you’re willing to sacrifice (damage). I have had just as much fun off roading in my bone stock Geo Tracker as I ever had in my fully locked, 4:1 low range, 37” M/Ts Wrangler TJ. Not even joking! Just do some research, plan ahead and get what you can afford. The challenges are relative, but the fun is always the same. 👍
I just got a Sahara 4xe. I plan on leaving it stock for a while to see how it does here in Nevada. When I compared the price difference to the rubicon, I didn’t see the value. I can lift the Jeep, add larger tires and install ox locks for what I believe is less than price difference between the trims. That would be an interesting video for the Rubicon trail.
Synopsis: We tried to take an inappropriate vehicle on a trail it was not built for, and we b1tched about its shortcomings along the way. Our summary: Yet another tired TFL ‘rerun’-format vlog to keep the checks coming in.
Bought a new Jeep Wrangler in 2018 1st and last new Mopar I will ever purchase. 2 broken exhaust valves and scored cams as well as the Upper oil pan springing a Leak in under 50.000 Miles. Luckily the junk holds it's value and we covered the loan on trade in. I get sick every time I think about the amount of money I spent on Off Road upgrades Bumpers Winch Bigger Rims and Tires Teraflex suspension Fox shox. On board air lockers etc etc the list is endless. Wife traded it in on a new daily. We decked out an old Nissan truck for our off road adventures. The truck is very capable and the motor and trans runs like a sewing machine.
Or you could buy a sport, wisely throw a few grand into it and have a more than capable enough Jeep to do the Rubicon. Let’s not forget It’s about the off-roading. Not about the absolute best comfort.
Hey guys, I have a modded Wrangler JK "Sahara" that could do the Rubicon trail. That part of the trail in the video is like some of our hydro line gravel roads in Canada! Although I would have bought a Rubicon in retrospect they are expensive and the Wrangler Sport is cheaper (like 10-15K on average). I have lifted my JKU (Sahara), I have 35" tires, agreed that the side steps are useless off road so in my case long gone which I replaced with rock rails. The thing is you can equip any Jeep (and other vehicles) to include lockers, lift and bigger tires, winch etc etc. The reality is stock tires off the lot (31") are too small for hitting harder trails, you will belly drag all over the place! So it really doesn't matter what they come with stock (including Rubi).. drive them until the warranty is up then upgrade!
Don't know about the JL but, if you read the Jk users guide, it is mentioned in it to remove the side steps if you go offroad. And, if a renegade can be trail rated on the Rubicon, don't believe a Sahara is not capable of doing the same. Just have to do the same as with the Renegade, keep throwing rocks bellow the wheels when needed.
The Sahara Jeep did great. What are you talking about. First bad video I've seen from yall. Complaining about weather and rain? Come on. Did good with skinny tires and no lift.
I was laughing the whole time..... (I have no confidence in this vehicle). Let’s just talk about how this jeep wont make it. Scraping the rear differential on a rock he could have drove around.. LOL... Oh no it raining too. LOL. And we’re sick. LOL.......!!!! What a fun trip.LOL.....

When this vid started, I was gonna bash ya for taking a new vehicle and beat the crap out of it, as you started by saying it wasn't the proper rig for that trail, but showing the "easy" part and turning around was the smart thing to do and without seeing it, most people would say "my Sahara will do it" well, now they know. @@rjhay22 like he said, they just arrived at the start of the rubicon trail. It does get rougher then they've shown but I do believe you're partially correct. For the video's sake they try to make them look as bad as possible.
The Jeep can do it you two can't. I usually enjoy your content but not this time. Oh and I own a ZR2 not a Jeep.
All this Channel is is Roman COMPLAINING ! Also for your information not everyone can afford a Rubicon or get to use free jeeps. NOT SURE WHY I WATCH TFL? You have the best job in the world try and respect it !! The complaining is getting old !!!!!!!!!!
Mark Reagan I don’t think I could ever afford a new rubicon
CHEAP JEEPER and why would you want to when his video clearly indicated that the Sahara and even the Sport handled the trail perfectly well?
Mike McKay mainly because we don’t get many rubicon’s in Australia, but I am very happy with my cheap Jeep tj
I love your content, but this is a very negative video.
Who died and made you content judge?? Your comment is negative. Your handle is negative. Your face is negative.
What this video shows is the truth in fact. You're probably not used to that. That's your problem. No one else's. So go back to your cartoons and trending trash videos. This channel is for real people with real purpose.
Sam Johnson lol what an over the top response, I hope you have a nice day.
Lol @ your face is negative.
Negative face is a useful thing in art. Wait no that's negative space. My bad.
They were not feeling good that day 😕... Plus street tires don't belong on the trail... The Moab Sahara would have been better

Feels like a Jeep Rubicon Ad...
Absolutely love you guys but is it just me or does it seem like Roman isn't having fun anymore? Sort of a Debbie Downer these days.....
I took it to be Roman playing the foil to Tommy's enthusiasm. trying to give both sides. though the channel in general does favor jeep(fiatdodge) very heavily, in other regards they try to provide a pretty balanced perspective. i think that is just what hes doing.
Yeah, Roman looks tired. No fun like old videos. Perhaps since a month he looks different. Do you feel fine Roman?
Stop whining your job sure doesn’t look to rough
I do appreciate Tommy’s excitement and enthusiasm. He’s also very well versed when it comes to technical details and has a unique way of getting his point across.
74Beeper true!
I compete with my friends who have Raptors and Dodge TRX’s lol their cars cost 3 times more than mine
I remember the wimpy first generation Liberty being able to cross it!
I love TFL, but this is pussification at its worst
bullllll $hit. This a very hard trail. I’ve run it, and it’s about as hard as Holy Cross here in Colorado. Body damage is almost guaranteed.
It's all about perspective, boys.
You're complaining that 32s are too small and you don't have locks? Holy crap - the old Jeeps didn't used to do the Rubicon with lockers - and 32s used to be considered hilariously large.
Oh, how spoiled you have become. ; )
Armored Skeptic? No offence, but I did not expect to see you here lol.
@@Raiders1917 He is allowed to be interested in stuff besides shit talking religion.
@@catsgonom Am I not allowed to be surprised lol? Also when did I say he wasn't allowed here?
In fairness / those jeeps had a much shorter wheelbase and could maneuver around way easier on smaller tires ... they were also significantly lighter and momentum carried you further
Hey so I'm looking for a
hunting vehicle.
Im pretty sure a jeep wrangler 4x4 base can make it with NO issues:)
I D You’re completely right!
I love 4wd action. Those trucks are awesome
I ran part of the Rubicon Trail in a stock JL Sahara. It did great.
Do you lose some "ability" with a Sahara? Sure, but that Sahara seemed to do pretty damn well on that trail.
Is the Sport better than the Sahara for offroad?
@@nickolask8086 no its not, they are basically identical off-road. Just get limited slip its an option on both and you'll do great off-road.
@@nickolask8086 Same Jeep different interior and price, but no. A decent lift and tires and the Sahara is the same Jeep, just with chrome bits.
Even on a gravel trail it looks more fun then sitting at my office desk nursing computer servers.
“I have no doubt the Sport will do it, but can it do it in style?” Really? We’re going for style points?
Is the Sport better at offroad than the Sahara?..looking at one
Stupid title: "Can it do it?"
Video: "I don't feel like finding out."
Insert Roman complaining for 10 minutes.
The end.
Poor Tommy was not feeling well enough to offer some counter-points to Roman's whining, so overall, this video was disappointing.
Don't get me wrong, I still like this channel, but sometimes the things I usually don't get too worked up about, just annoy me.
Ryan rkj Perfectly said. Just drive the frikken Jeep.
"I don't feel like finding out" has been my motto since I turned 35.
😁
Yeah, but trail rated doesn’t mean it can tackle any trail.
NemeanLion Yeah I know but, it can tackle the trail they’re on. That’s what I was saying.
Love you guys, but you didn’t even touch the Rubicon trail haha
Feel better Tommy!
Great reply !
guys...you gotta stop equating a part time 4wd system with having a center locker.
The sport is for the Jeepers that know everything that makes it a Rubicon can be upgraded for less than the price of the Rubicon

Will always thumb up for dedication! Just don't over do it no fun being sick on the job! Even if the job is running the Rubicon
Sahara is not a city slicker jeep, beats the too pricey rubicon. Yes, I own a sahara, will turn it in to a Rubi for less money.
With the TJ the Sahara you got an upgraded rear axle a Dana 44 with most have the d-35 and the JK the Sahara is just a pretty upgrade package isn't even built any better. So at that point why not just do the sport and build it better
IG street_legal_go_kart If you buy a jku, you get a 44 rear and 30 front. I traded my jeep off, wont own another pentastar powered anything.
@@WBOS72 What happened to the v6? It's usually pretty solid isn't' it?
So you emphasized how it didn't have lockers but declined to talk about Jeep's Brake Lock Differential System (BLD) that is used on their vehicles that don't have lockers, it works extremely well.
Dirt Every Day guys did the Rubicon in a stock 40+ year old chevy long bed and Jeep CJ. Open diffs and all to show how people used to run the trail.
Paragraphs are your friend
Really interested in getting a jeep but but can't justify 55-60 grand. A Sahara with a tire upgrade seems the ticket for me.
Thanks for sharing Roman and Tommy super of TFL Cars.
most stock 4X4s will do this, Especially a god damn wrangler..
No lmaooooo did you even watch the video? did you even see the rocks? like cmon nobody would want to tear their underbody out
I have the 2024 4xe Willy’s it does amazingly crawling over the rocks like a little toy car lol it is truly amazing and it never rolled over on us and everybody thought the 4xe was awesome. I live in the cascade mountains so now we wait for 3 to 4 feet of snow can’t wait lol
Lol wait… I’m confused you said the Sahara wouldn’t make it but not one time I saw you struggle?
I think my grandmas HHR can clear this trail 😂
Complaining the whole time. Not one of your better vids guys.
Have some cheese with that whine. Jeez. Part of the challenge of off roading is your driving skills, not always the equipment.
So basically, if you get a sahara you just have to change the tires and maybe lift it up a little and it will do mostly the same as the Rubicon?
I did it in a 2001 XJ, 3inch lift and never had a problem.
Rubicon is tough Fordyce is even tougher. Tj n even YJs have been doing them for years. Low 4x4 the diff get you thru. Ground clearance is the issue 35” on older jeeps 32” will conquer them. Just gotta go slow n pick your lines
They just want to hate in it. Sahara is a onroad Jeep so people hate on it. I love this channel by the way.
Minor note. If a locker is on and a wheel is off the ground the wheel can actually get 100% of the power going to that axle so in that case it's possible for a single wheel on a locked axle to get 50%. That's the amazing thing about lockers!
I have the 2023 4xe And there is no freaking way I’m taking my $65,000 Jeep on a Rubicon Rocky Trail.
Knife to a gunfight? Except, as the special ops teams reply, "Knives never run out of bullets."
Now if a Wrangler Rubicon could only get 30mpg on the highway...
I thought the Plastic Knife analogy was a bit harsh.... That's a diss to all Jeepers that don't own A Rubicon..... 🤔
@@JeepsLostLegend It shows a level of ignorance that an "offroad" channel shouldn't have. Roman has no idea what he's actually talking about when it comes to running trails. Stock TJs have ran this trail just fine.
You guys are awesome and so dedicated to go out in that to make content for us. Just wanted to say how much you're appreciated
Thanks for the kind comment! Very much appreciated!
I dont see whats so negative about the video i liked it! Very honest review of the vehicle on the trail.
I bet I could make it up this trail in my 2001 discovery with good old 4-low, CDL and traction control

Doesn't a "trail rated" badge mean the vehicle did the Rubicon trail?
Weekend Warrior yes, this jeep is trail rated to do the rubicon trail
Or you could buy a sport, wisely throw a few grand into it and have a more than capable enough Jeep to do the Rubicon. Let’s not forget It’s about the off-roading. Not about the absolute best comfort.
Sounds like a guy that can’t afford a Jeep 😂
I would like to see a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk try the rubicon trail.
Ive seen some channel where a guy put a 2'' lift on one and had 32 in off road tires.... It looked sick!
Thank you for the review Roman!

So I'm a rubicon guy but would a Sahara not be better then a rubicon on the highway during winter driving with an auto feature? Love to see an on road test
Roman, why so negative? A paid trip to the Rubicon trail in Lake Tahoe in a Jeep and you complained the whole time!
Who’s paying Roman? Certainly not Jeep!
@@TFLoffroad Jeep didn't fly you out like other manufactures have? So you paid for your flight and hotel to drive free Jeep's in Tahoe, still no reason to have such a negative tone the whole video.

Why not bring in a lifted Sahara and fairly run this trail
Love your channel, I just purchased my first Jeep Sport S two door and love it. 👍
2 door would have done better than the longer wheelbase Sahara
I mean the Sahara kinda implies that it’s not for rock crawling, but this vid makes it even more clear. Great job as usual!
Ok it can't do that much, but it's BLUE!
I have a Rubicon and won't take it on the Rubicon trail.
I got it mostly to have factory warrantied lockers. I ain't about to beat up a $500 payment.
I ran the Rubicon in a stock 3rd gen 4runner sport edition and it did fine. Of course the 4runner doesn't have the school bus wheelbase of that Sahara so I had that going for me.
My 2017 Unlimited Sahara has a 3" lift with 20" wheels & it's not a city slicker Jeep because I take her hunting & overlanding with no problems.
Are you guys just crying the whole time? The Sahara did great.
The nicest part of the Rubicon trail is the walk path along the lake.
Had a red soft top 2door sport new in 2013 switched to a 2014 4door sahara now I have a 2door hardtop sahara winter edition and never got stuck here in Boulder County Colorado
Good job!
Is there a hard part of the trail? Because I never saw it in the video... there was not 1 challenging part of that trail that you took it threw.
