Regarding the planet, I agree that we are destroying it by needlessly and selfishly emitting approximately 40 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year and are reaping the destructive results in the form of horrific climate change. For 4wd vehicles, only toyotas and nissans made in Japan can travel in the Australian outback without falling apart. Jeep and Land Rovers compete for last place but surprisingly the G wagon also shake apart on the corrugations. However, Mercedes and many other types of trucks handle the roads pretty well with some daily maintenance.
    I have ordered toyota prados straight from the dealer with BF Goodrich tyres, you just have to think about your purchase. If you plan to play on sand frequently however stick with the factory standard 'soft roader' A/T tyres. Also,any slightly serious 4w driver would be adjusting tyre pressure to suit the conditions.

    • @roungsmate
      @roungsmate 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @rabblerouser After a few hundred kilometres of corrugated dirt roads, mine work or rocky deserts the bolts, welds, screws etc on jeeps, land rovers etc just come apart. Also many of the suspension components are not robust enough and break when placed under strain on river crossings. Toyota test all of their vehicles in Australia to be able to handle this punishment. Toyota has chosen a different position on the trade offs between cost, weight savings and strength. American toyotas are cheaper than elsewhere so it is possible that they are constructed with inferior components. In the US you don't need to drive thousands of kilometres on rough roads in temperatures up to 50 degrees celsius (122 degrees fahrenheit). Even on highways fuel may only be available every 300 kilometres or so and we have cattle stations bigger than many of your states. Australia has plenty of mountains near the coast but they have been worn down from being taller than the himalayas to not much more than 3,000 metres. More than 90% of the population lives in 0.22% of the country. Aftermarket high powered turbo and super charged wranglers with modified suspensions do well on sand dunes but generally they have to stick to bitchumen to survive.

    • @roungsmate
      @roungsmate 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just heard that the jeep range received a one star safety rating in Europe and Australia. You would be stupid to buy a vehicle that is designed to kill you in a crash. The passenger compartment is already collapsing in a 64 kilometre per hour crash test. Lazy, stupid engineers.

    Hey guys! All of the problems you experienced with the G-Wagen should be solved with it's new Trail Package. It includes higher profile BFG All Terrain tyres, smaller wheels (with a nice off-roady design), and more underbody protection. I think the reason most G-Wagens come with those all season tyres is, like you said, almost none of their owners will ever take them off road. But the ones that will, will get the Trail Package for sure.

    • @MyCrippledWings

      4runner is a poor man's land cruiser of sorts. Want the v8 get a 4th generation (03-09) 4runner (same engine is used in tundra, land cruiser, Lexus GX460/470, and sequoia) or a Lexus GX 460/470 If you want more luxury than a 4runner. Just as capable off-road.
      Landcruiser is better overall though. World's strongest frame and comes with all the lockers, like the G wagon does. But they're expensive though. So out of the 3, for the money, the 4runner is the best. Most versatile, and most capable in multiple categories. Not just focused on one thing only.

      The Benz will break down when all it’s electronics start acting up. And the Wrangler is full of fiat/chrysler parts, which will inevitably break down as well.

      @@headers12 all car parts break down with wear and tear. The Wrangler like most modern vechiles is full of shared Sourced parts from around the world. Second Toyota's current gen is full of problems when compared to the early 2000 models. It seems to most everyone, that all Toyota Zealots sing the same tune like a broken record when it's demonstrated how outdated many of Toyota's models are when compared to there competitors. So when the competing vechile drives better, higher MPG, increased performace, more modern and in demand infotainment(Car play) etc.... All we hear us the same mantra, "But the Toyota is more realible"
      Then you guys exacerbate the level of difference in realibility between Toyota and the competitors by acting as if the other vechiles are Lemons.

    I don't quite understand the comment that the 4runner engine feels weak unless you rev it when it has 7% more torque (18 more lbs-ft) at the same rpm compared to the 3.6 in the Jeep that no one ever complains about. And with the hard top, they weigh about the same. Thats 12 more HP that the Jeep at that rpm. Transmission complaints? sure. Power? I guess I don't share that sentiment.

    I've driven Jeeps for a very long time and had no issues with any of them. Currently I'm driving a 2016 Wrangler with over 150,000 miles on it. half of those miles have been on trails across the country. I change the fluids regularly and follow my maintenance schedule. All my Jeeps have only used synthetic oil which I do believe has contributed somewhat in my vehicles longevity.
