    As someone who has been on the Rubicon since 1979, I can assure you that full-size pickups on the trail wasn't a thing in the 70's or 80's. You didn't see them until the 90's, when tires started getting bigger.

      Everyone forgets to take into account that back in the day a stock rig possibly could have made Rubicon. Now with everyone using 35, 37s, 40s+ tires, it's all dug out and the landscape has drastically changed since then. It changes every single year as bigger and bigger rock crawlers push massive boulders in different spots making the trail more and more difficult.

But I have to tell you, between DED, Roadkill, Roadkill Garage, Hotrod Garage, Engine Masters, Drift This, etc etc etc, I am more than happy with my subscription. It's dedicated gearhead content made by gearheads without the b.s. drama that tv shows try to add in. These are people that get it, and they deserve my money. Of course there are dozens more shows on MTOD that I don't watch, but maybe one day I will get around to checking them out.

    This is exactly how my Dad and I ran the Rubicon. The first vehicle he came over the Rubicon in was a Buick back when it was a through-route and the Rubicon Springs Hotel was still there. After the washout, he drove over it in a 1950s Jeep without any lockers. He did have "Snow" tires, though...

    Suddenly my 69 CJ on 32” tires is looking pretty Rubi Ready! Just have to rebuild my 8274 and build a tire/Jerry holder and good to go. I was thinking 38’s and ARB lockers before. Don’t want to bring a Naval Destroyer to a pool party

    • @permagrin8742
      @permagrin8742 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @zososldier

      You should probably lock it. Freds Jeep had aftermarket lockers front and rear.

    • @permagrin8742
      @permagrin8742 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      But I was looking at the full-size Chevy making it through. Don’t get me wrong. I love having lockers. Had Ected front and rear on my Blazer and did real good. But a Jeep just breezes places a full-size has to muscle. Even without lockers. I am still amazed at how few places require me to really work the Jeep vs nearly point and shoot with the locked Blazer. Also bang and grind with the Blazer.

    There just isn't enough incentive yet, another pay to view service just isn't in a ton of people's budgets. Especially car guys. Love the channel but with 6.4 million subscribers, surely you're making enough off the TH-cam channel if you continue to put up good content. Thanks for the free episode, much enjoyed.

      @@things7141 it's principle more than monetary I guess. Just hate that the pulled the TH-cam support for 2.99 they make that nearly preview with ads etc on TH-cam. Just bummed out and don't want other channels to follow suit, imagine every TH-cam channel costing 3 bucks a sub.

    • @DashnCars
      @DashnCars 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@things7141 That was my original point, with 6.4 million subscribers they're making a healthy amount of bank. I think what they are trying to accomplish is maybe becoming a TV show, which is fine but that's not why 6.4 million people were interested in them in the first place.
      As always, I hope the best for them but I just worry about other channels following suit.

      @1QKGLH 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@DashnCars I don't think things is capable of seeing your point. I get it. They have 6.5 million subs. That will make some serious bank. Seems to me (I could be wrong) that they would make more money on YT than a pay site. I won't pay it out of principal.

    • @DashnCars
      @DashnCars 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@1QKGLH that's my point too. I know how much even 1 million subs pays, when you get into the multi million sub area you're making a crazy amount of money.

    Hard to watch a nice straight body classic get beat and dented up like that for no reason. My Dad had a truck just like that and my Grandpa still has his '73 Cheyenne. Harder and harder to find unmolested or neglected steel bodies.

      I think most of us "Jeep" guys don't really consider a Compass or a Liberty a Jeep. It's more or less is a Jeep when it's got a solid front axle regardless of which Jeep, that's when it's a buildable performable platform to work with.

    Let's just take a minute to pour one out for that poor square. I was excited to see how it would do, but I died a little inside with each bit of body damage. I LOVE squares, and clean ones like that simply do not exist where I live in New England unless they've been brought up from out west, or restored. Either way, they are $$$.
    On the other hand, it did AWESOME! That thing was a BEAST! I'd feel better about the body damage if they did another epis0de and really built it, and did some more wheeling trips with it. Unfortunately, this was probably just a throwaway for them, like when they wrecked that clean K5 for Cheap Truck Challenge a few years back.
    This was may favorite show, btw, I miss watching these on YT every month. Still not sure if I want to subscribe, it's not even about the money, it's just the point of th thing and the hassle of having yet ANOTHER subscription service.
