Microphone is not as important here. Wind protector however can make a night and day difference. These wind protectors are called cats and they are a sort of fluffy enclosure you put on the mic you have. If you can build a truck like this I'm pretty certain you can get a fluffy (it has to have long hair strands) material and make a pocket out of it just big enough for the mic to fit in. The fake fur or fur-like strands will shield the mic from the wind pretty well, if you have a massive wind you can put a layer of open cell foam as a first layer and the long fake fur as a second. Source, I did sound on set including open air sets. There are how-to instructions available on the internet for how to build these wind protectors.
It is mesmerize. Once I with my gf completed the route through the wild mountain path on the altitude 2800m in the winter with my 4runner 33MT". That 12km of the whole day route looked exactly like on your video. I can't even imagine the triumph of the soul of a person, who has a place and a tool to do it day to day... I'm still proud of my 2006.5 FJ Cruiser lol, but you have absolutely incredible trucks at a beautiful place. Thank you for building such art and filming it. I appreciate the respect you have for your machines and your terrain. Someday I'll visit Iceland!
Great idea for portals on a full size rig (I know it isn’t a new idea but, coupled with those big studded tires = major clearance).🍻👍🎶🥃 Great looking rigs, cheers to them operating very well in the open.
@@someoneyouknow96 But do regular 1500s? you are talking about a 30k+ pound truck plus load with 18 295/75R22.5 wheels and tires. Even the most outfitted offroader fitted with 35s in 4L would get stuck. apples to watermelons my dude.
@@someoneyouknow96 When you said wheelers I assumed you where trying to compare a 1 ton to a fully loaded semi. Where I'm from that's what we call semis is wheelers. while i wholeheartedly agree with your point on semi's not being a fair comparison. A modern 1 ton pickup uses an entirely different frame, entirely different body and entirely different suspension to a 1/2 ton. while dodge 2500 and 3500 frames are nearly identical except for a mounting plate for the extra overload spring in the 3500's.
Ive been a Ram guy for my last 3 trucks. Theres nothing better than a 3500 or 2500 diesel rig for conditions like this. That was so much fun to watch! I HATE the cold, especially when its "dark" out during the day. You must be tough to endure winters like that. I love your rig! Beautiful!
Those trucks are INSANE! And I’m so for it. I need one. Amazing trucks my friend. Iceland is on my list of places to visit someday. Such a beautiful and diverse island. Best wishes for the year ahead!
I love it! I miss that weather and the snow. The coldest I see now is usually just above freezing and that’s only a few times a year. 5.3:1 axle ratio is hard to imagine with 58” tires but it looks like it’s working. Definitely on my wish list!
Это очень круто. Самый интересный внедорожник который я только видел. На таком бы на Кольский полуостров. 58 колеса, еще и ram - огонь. Ждем новых видео)
We have built one 6x6 Ram on 54" tires and Unimog axles. It's operated by Troll Expeditions here in Iceland. If you google "Troll Expeditions Ram" you can find it.
Seems airlines on the outside of the wheel is vulnerable to getting snagged or breaking, or maybe those are not airlines? Loved these trucks, so capable!
Thank you very much! If you are driving through a forest or something like that then yes it could potentially be a problem. But here in Iceland we have almost no trees so its not really a problem. Central tire inflation systems have really increased in popularity in Iceland over the last few years and most of them run external air lines and they are surprisingly reliable. And we always carry extra air lines in case of a problem.
You guys do killer work. I think it would be way cooler to build up an early second gen ram with the 5.9l 12v motor. Unbreakable drivetrain if it's a manual gearbox
nicely/tastefully done. considering the base price of pickup trucks now days that must have cost a fortune. the ladder-over cab storage platform is sweet.
Amazing work!!! I wonder what transfercase the one with the rearwheel option has. The other one has permanent 4x4 if i remember reight from the previous video.
Everytime I see things like this, I want to move to Iceland :) Awesome build! Curiosity question, roughly @11:05 there is a pad of sorts on the passenger side. Is this a custom tyre pressure control of sorts?

Just out of curiosity, what's with the roller test? Are they literally testing for front and rear differential function? Are vehicles in Iceland required to be 4wd with no lockers?

Just a couple of the coolest trucks on the planet out for a cruise.
Thank you, and we agree they are pretty cool.
Love this Video! No annoying music. Just the sound and the atmosphere
The best !!
Supp it! - I a guess same too.
Those are some bad ass trucks sir. Nicely done very capable trucks as trucks should be. 👍
Thank you for the compliment!
These are probably the coolest trucks known to mankind. And the scenery! Ya'll are very blessed to live in such a beautiful place.
Thank you! Yes, we love traveling through the beautiful remote highlands of Iceland.

There’s almost this sailing quality to the way these vehicles travel across the tundra!
Yeah, it sometimes almost feels like you are riding the waves on the ocean.
one of the baddest trucks on earth - comming from a Ford guy from Germany
Thank you very much!
I bet our TÜV in Germany would have a immediate heart attack and nervous breakdown if you come up with this

That looks like it was extremely fun!
It was great fun! Exciting to see the truck finally in action after years of work.
14:14 the tires are about halfway under the snow. That means it's driving through 29 inches of snow at that point!
That's no big deal. Wheelers here in the US wheel in the snow that's 10 feet deep.

Immaculate build! What is your opinion on using a liquid spring suspension on this build?

I really wish I had one of these.
insane build. dunno how much the conversion cost, but that's very well done. a full 8' bed would be ideal for remote places though.
Thank you!
What gear ratio do you run for those size tiess.
The differential gearing is 2.56:1 and the axle portals are 2.0:1 which gives us an overall gearing of around 5.3:1
@@highlandtrucksmods How did you get diff gears that tall? Sounds like it's way undergeared with those ratios.
@@TehButterflyEffect Those are the original gears on these Unimog axles, in our experience so far its working really well with those gears.
Fuel savings?
This is soooo sick!!!!
Awesome job!! What brand and model are the headlights on your truck? They look to be similar to headlight used for snow plow applications. Cheers.
Thank you! The headlights the truck is using are from Ledson and I think the advertise them as snowplow lights among other things.
This is so cool
Curious why you guys don’t use the 5500 platform with such large tires? What mods to the axles are done to handle those monsters?
Everytime I see things like this, I want to move to Iceland :)
Awesome build!
Curiosity question, roughly @11:05 there is a pad of sorts on the passenger side. Is this a custom tyre pressure control of sorts?
Yes that is to operate the central tire inflation system. The pad connects to the system via Bluetooth using an app that comes with the system.
@@highlandtrucksmods That is cool. TY for the reply!
Here in Norway, we can forget about getting rigs like that street legal 😞

Optimus Prime would be proud of you guys 😎
I was an awe the whole time while watching this! Awesome! How fast were you going on the flats?
Just out of curiosity, what's with the roller test? Are they literally testing for front and rear differential function? Are vehicles in Iceland required to be 4wd with no lockers?
Also, how well do the unimog axles stand up to the torque of the Cummins? Unimogs don't have nearly as much power as a 6.7 Cummins puts out.
It looks similar to a brake test I have seen in Australia, I'm guessing it is for checking braking ability and bias?
Yes there they were testing both the braking ability and the brake bias. So they are just spinning the tires and then braking.
@@TehButterflyEffect They stand up great, we have been using Unimog axles on Rams and Fords since 2007 and we have had basically zero problems.
