This is completely logical decision. Some years ago this happened to me too, and I decided this too. Right now I’m in a different point and buying again physical media. There are times that we have to take this type of decisions.
I’m right there with you sue. I lost my job back in March but found another in July but I’m not making nearly what I was making before. So my physical media collecting has come to a stop. It sucks because I’m missing out on a lot of good movies I would like to buy, but hey the power and water and my family comes first before my wants. Hopefully we’ll both be able to get back in the game sooner rather than later. Good luck sue, and I’ll still be supporting your channel.
i am so proud of you Sue. I love knowing what's going on with your life. Everybody goes thru stuff and not telling them, but your honesty feels so refreshing. Here to see what's next to come. ❤
I had to stop buying so much physical media too unfortunately. I try to limit myself to my top two or three movies of the year, and I buy them around Christmas time as a gift for myself.
I can relate. About 80% of my 1,843 movies are used buys from $3.99 up. Has taken me over 12 years to collect them. Prices for new anything can be quite high. I just picked up another 4k tv 50 inch for 275$. New? Over 600$ plus taxes. Movie collecting is like an addiction. Gotta have them all! 😂 The parts and labor now to fix our cars. YIKES!!
I really respect this. I am going to be doing something similar in 2025. Going into debt because of physical media is kind of embarrassing, but it’s a real thing. It happened to me too. I respect your vulnerability and responsibility here. Looking forward to the rest of the update videos!
Thanks Celeste, I appreciate your support! It absolutely is embarrassing, but something has to change and I recognize that! I can't wait to hear about your journey! Good luck!
I would love to see you do more in-depth reviews of the films you watch. You are always fantastic when really diving deeper. Best of luck with your financial issues!
I did this 8 months ago, I had to just stop buying physical media, the amount of money I was spending was putting a financial strain on my family. So I cold turkey just stopped. I recently started picking up just the new releases I really want, but usually 2 a month if that anymore. SO I understand completely. Im sure people watch your channel for your content and will understand. Now can we get a movie collection update 😊
Buying and collecting 4K movies on physical media at $25-35 dollars or more for each, can get very expensive. After you buy them, they immediately depreciates in value, unless the title becomes out of print.
Hang in there Sue, you have my full support 100%. Being an adult and a physical media collector is hard. I can't wait to see what you put together in the future. I will still be supporting your channel 1,000. Don't you worry Susan, we'll still support you no matter what. My name is Alfred by the way!
You’re inspiring me to cut out some unnecessary costs I have in my life. More stuff is becoming a nuisance to me at this point. I need to learn to have a better balance of what I actually need vs what I want. That can quickly get out of hand if we don’t keep it in check. Thanks for the video!
Very honest video, thanks for sharing. Dig deep into that collection and sell what you don`t really love and you will be out of debt in no time. You can do it
I completely get it, Sue. I cut down on the amount of physical media I buy monthly a while back. The questions I ask myself now are, (1) “Will this still be here in a couple of months?” (2) “If I buy it now, am I going to watch it now?” Unless it’s a limited edition (which sadly, they’re releasing more of), I just wait for either a sale or for the price to drop. When the amount coming in doesn’t increase very much and other bills-like mortgage, utilities and food-keep increasing, the decision gets made for ya. So I know exactly where you’re coming from. And if you can do it, all the more power to you. I tried the no-buying but only lasted three months. That’s why I came up with the questions I ask myself now because I knew I couldn’t deprive myself but I also knew I couldn’t spend what I was before. You’re definitely lucky in that you have made those partnerships with the studios-and maybe this is an incentive to build more. (Back in my days as a reporter, I was fortunate enough to get new book releases and CDs sent to me for review. That was actually the thing I missed the most when I left that job. But I love the job I ran for so I get my perks in other ways now.) Anyway, best of luck! I believe most of us are rooting for you to succeed!
Hi Sue! I’ve been watching your channel for a while now, and you actually inspired me to start my own physical media collecting channel. I really admire your decision to take a break from buying physical media; it’s a significant choice. Taking time for yourself is so important, and I think that’s a really responsible move. Keep up the great work!
I am in the same boat. My car needs repairs that will eventually cost me a little over $1000 dollars. In order to save up, one of my budget cuts is little to no physical media.
We understand your situation, we all support you, and I can probably speak for a lot of people when I say we have all been in your situation before. Not the physical media part, but the borrowing$$/car part, of course. You have so many follows here who care and will stick by your side regardless which direction your channel goes in. 🥂 Here’s to Sue! 🥂
I think you'll do just fine. I got made redundant many years ago and stayed out of work for a year. Not a penny was spent on physical media. Had 300 in the watch pile and still struggled to keep up. Re-watching what you have and learning to really enjoy and appreciate your collection is a very cathartic experience. As for new titles, I think you might end up being surprised how few you "really" need. Concentrate on quality over quantity. I'm sure gifts will cover it - and maybe the odd bit of over-time for those must haves. Enjoy meeting your new self as you get to experience this hobby from a different POV - I've been through it as I'm sure others have too. You'll do just fine.
Yes girl. So glad to hear you're going for it. If it takes something like your car issue to give you that push, why not take advantage of it. The physical media will always be there when you're ready to return to it.
Something I'd recommend if/when you start buying physical media again. Try thrifting at pawn shops. I recently bought 8 4ks at a pawn shop, most of them were fairly recent titles like the new Hunger Games movie and I paid $40 total. Personally I really enjoy thrifting physical media. Not only do I save a ton of cash but it's also like a treasure hunt. video's people post of their pawn shop hauls are some of my favorite physical media videos as well.
Me and my brother get a generous Christmas gift from my brother in law and (RIP) my sister we also get a gift from my other sister and that’s more than enough! I no longer work since I had a heart attack years ago! You’ll do this and you will survive! Those are strong blessings and they make wonderful gifts!
Very good Sue I thought about this as well if I were to buy something physical it would be something I have been looking for but not everything like I used too… I dont have space for it. I literally have 3 Shelves of movies and I can not take up anymore space! So I completely understand your situation I pray that it’ll get better for you! ❤😊
Good for you. I'll still watch your channel. I had to stop buying CDs and records as my collection was getting overwhelming. I'll start buying eventually, but until then it's nice enjoying the stuff I have.
I totally understand the reason behind this decision. I’ve already scaled back what I purchase. Even though I LOVE physical media….I don’t need to get it “now”. I can always wait for a sale or whatever. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for content. You know I’ll be there. ❤
Awesome that you recognized you have a problem and you are going to address it. I know is hard but at the end it will be great for you and your finances. Trust me in a year you will overcome everything. Keep the work and keep the faith everything will be fine.
I will miss the physical media pickups i loved watching your joy collecting them. However I still enjoy what you have to say, you are beautiful and your positivity and passion on your channel is refreshing and always welcome.
Nooooooo, finding physical media isn't the same without Susan finding good stuff. The discount blurays and the weekly new title videos are a hit with me. But for me, I'm at the stage where I'm not getting any more movies unless it's a must have only. We can't find them at dollar tree anymore and all the big lots stores in my area closing down to add insult to injury. Those were my two best go to stores for movies.
I caught myself 3 years ago falling into the same trap, started using my debit card then credit cards, my hobby was starting to take control of me. I would buy films just because I would see someone else had them, then let it collect dust. That’s no way to live.
I'm proud of you for making the difficult decision. It can be really hard to admit when there are certain issues and give up things you enjoy, even temporarily. Best of luck getting your finances in order and hopefully this will all work out as the start to a great new chapter for your channel. I rarely buy new releases myself, I mostly only buy movies when they're on really good sales, gotta save where you can.
Proud of you! I had to do the same this year, I’ll buy one thing here and there but been on a more or less freeze myself. You got it, and it’s worth it!
I vastly cut back on buying physical media. Couldn’t do it anymore. Didn’t have time. Started using any extra money for travel plans I always wanted to do. I only buy maybe a handful a year and it’s usually all foreign films.
Your main mistake was buying on release day. All you have to do is wait for Amazon, kino, criterion, arrow, scream to have sales. They all do and I never buy unless it’s a sale and I still get everything I want. Just not instantly
Totally understand. Going back to my comment yesterday, I've been on a buying freeze myself. The only physical media I bought all summer was a $5 steelbook of Chicago. Sometimes, this amazing hobby of ours has to be put on the back burner.
Completely understandable. I know for me, I have a bad habit of picking up physical media often bc I justify that it’s cheap (I mostly buy secondhand) and it often just sits on the shelf to never be watched. You gotta do what’s best for you.
That’s where I been for a while. I’m only going to buy things I know I’ll watch multiple times and buy anniversary editions of select favorite movies of mine. I’m no longer blind buying nor am I going to buy movies I know will just sit on a shelf. Too expensive for that.
Sometimes you have to cash in your chips! There is streaming and like you said you will hopefully have stuff sent to you. It’s not an easy process but you will be strong and in the end you will hopefully be rewarded? Sometimes I think is it worth it? I enjoy the DVDs I got but you are becoming a serious adult and I’m very proud of you! Every year movies come out than they push them out before Christmas to make more money off them. No offense some of the newer stuff just isn’t as good as it use to be! So good luck!
I'm at the point where I'm done collecting physical media myself. The prices have gone up to high and in this economy... gotta focus on paying bills and save. Plus, I feel like I have everything at this point.... truly💯
We are all here for you! And want the best for you!! I love your channel and can’t wait for the new chapter of videos!! Best of luck with the car. Your situation is so understandable. Things are so hard right now. Be proud of this decision!!!
I'm buying a lot less than I used to. I spent years upgrading from DVD fancier remastered 2-disc DVD, then fancier remastered 2-disc DVD to blu-ray, then blu-ray to fancier remastered blu-ray. I don't think I have the energy to upgrade everything from fancier remastered blu-ray to 4K, especially when 25K (with slipcase + postcards) will probably be along in a few years!! Discs are becoming increasingly expensive and owning a lot of physical media can be panic attack inducing. Around 50% of the films I watch are just okay to bad. It's time that could be better spent doing other things. Or re-watching films I love.
I know what you mean i've been cutting back on a lot of stuff myself, its getting more expensive and there so many releases it takes me ages to catch up and watch stuff.
"When you spend your money, if you're not building wealth for yourself, your building wealth for someone else." I love collecting physical media myself, but my future comes before any nonessential products. So its always the last thing on my list. Stay the course, it'll get easier as you strengthen your discipline.
completely understand your decision i am also going on buying freeze for the foreseeable future it is just way too expensive anymore and i don't have any room and we all have to be more financially responsible being an adult is hard.
I don't know why, but this video made me tear up for some reason. Stay strong. Things will get better. You just have to take it one day at a time. You got this.
Susan you are making the right decision. I’ve had to do the same thing. Like you I love physical media but I’m planning a wedding so I’ve had to stop buying physical media too. I will still watch your channel because I really enjoy your videos. It will be interesting to see you grow your channel
I have a walked a similar road and proud of you for being responsible. I have a massive blu-ray and 4k collection, but I can't deny that my purchases have gave me a world of hurt with credit card debt that feels impossible to climb out of it. I always justified my purchases by using the option to resell my collection if money got tight, but streaming has destroyed most of my resell value now and I can't even get my rare OOP media to sell on Ebay anymore. I have enough content to last me a lifetime yet I keep buying. At some point, you have to stop the insanity.
Perils of adulthood. Happens to all collectors. I had a huge vhs collection that got dumped when i had to move and no space necessitated it. Being back into collecting again on a limited basis and i already see the money and space being eaten up. And if you’re still going to the movies and have streaming services you’re going to be seeing new content so it’s not like you’re living in a cave. And yes i appreciate the new release trips. If you can do it without it hurting not buying anything then i support this aspect of your channel continuing. And a freeze doesn’t mean you can’t log what you want and when your finances own up you can go back and hunt down what you missed and probably at discounts. I honestly believe after the initial hurt you’ll notice it hurting less and less as the weeks and months pass by and you might see you returning to it ina different way later on. Keep on doing your thing.
No worries sue! U made a channel and community based on physical media and we are here no matter what! Physical media returning innthe future will be an amazing video and itll be betterbknowing you are comfortable with making it! Keep being awesome. The Blurays can wait! Plenty to go through once u can go back 😅
Hey, Sue, you have to do what makes sense for you. Very smart move. We love your channel and you have great content. Your going to be okay and we're manifesting continued growth for the channel.🤗
I've been thinking about my spending habits when it comes to physical media as well. I still have blu-ray movies I bought between 6 months and even over 2 years ago that I haven't seen. However, I controlled myself this month since I haven't bought anything on sale from boutique labels such as Arrow, Kino Lorber, and Shout Factory. Wish you all the best with TH-cam and also your personal life, Sue! As always, I'm looking forward to your future content(s).😁
Living is expensive and materialistic things are a luxury. As collectors we want everything, and it just can't happen. I wish I could buy as many as you use to. But bills and priorities were always first and I be lucky if I was able to buy just one movie. At least you have studios sending you movies for free to review. You'll make it. Movies will always be there.
I wanted to fairly stab Newbury Comics a month ago for having The Police Synchronicity Super Deluxe CD box set at like $200 near me in LI NY at the mall. Did I buy it? Nah, not a bloody chance. You can hear the entire box set for free on TH-cam! And it's bloody expensive. It's total nonsense.
I stopped buying because I was losing interest in the hobby and running out of space, also didn't want to spend money on something I wasn't enjoying. You love buying physical media and i feel bad that you won't be able to enjoy that part for a while. You being so good to your parents by being responsible with the money ❤
One movie I never saw before and just bought recently was Permanent Record with Keanu Reeves. Was well worth buying and viewing. A heavy movie. That type of rare film that escaped me years ago and is hard to find now, I will sometimes buy.
Been there financial times are tough you will get thru it 😊 I did the same thing and caught up with my movies I owned that I had never seen and watched stuff on streaming to see what I would want to get in the future.
I've had to cut back extensively too after moving out of my parents house. Letting myself get around one release a week that I'm really excited about. This month just the hell house bluray boxset as birthday present, Stanley Parable ps5 because I've been wanting to play it for years, Interview With the Vampire Season 2, and maybe Deadpool & wolverine
Good for you Sue! Maybe films in the collection you now get to watch, sell them if you think you'll never watch it again. One time watches sell them.. These funds can go into the pot!
This is really vulnerable of you to share but I think you're making a really wise choice. I hope you're able to get the car stuff sorted out soon and I hope this experiment of not buying physical media will be a positive experience for you!
Sue I am astonished how many content creators for physical media like you buy most of the new 4K releases. I understand that it is done because the channel talks about physical media and everyone loves to have the best a film can be, but we cannot possibly buy every new release. When comparing blu-rays and 4K , the upgrade to me is just minimal. If you have a good 4k TV, blu-ray still looks fantastic. I decided some time back that I will only upgrade films that I will watch often to 4K, or if a title is on sale with a good price - yeah sure I can consider an upgrade. I am not planning to re-purchase every title in my library. Also whenever I upgrade a title to 4K I will usually sell off the blu-ray to at least cover some of the cost of the upgrade. I follow another channel - AVA Pop Culture, he too has a self imposed buying freeze due to unforseen circumstances and I can relate to unexpected expenses just popping up sometimes and we have to just deal with the situation. Anyway, love your channel and keep up the good work!
Very understandable. I want to thank you for your willingness to continue the blu-ray hunting trips at various stores. I really enjoy you blu-ray hunting trip videos as I don't out to stores much due to a physical disability.
You are so brave, Sue. Speaking from experience, I dug myself a deep hole of debt twice before I learned my lesson. I believe in you. You can get it right the first time. I have going shopping and not purchasing anything to be very therapeutic. You will, too. I think. We will continue to watch as always.
I am personally excited for these different videos! I am here for the content and you regardless of pick ups/trips! I respect you being interpersonal about this and letting us know. I myself had to learn to ease on the gas for buying things and balance it out with my responsibilities/savings. Even started downsizing things that are just sitting and being unplayed and can be parted with. I am sorry about your car situation overall but i'm glad it'll be worked out in the end ☺
Appreciate the video, with your honesty and candor. Just know you have and will help alot of other collectors to be more selective and not let the enjoyment of collecting get in the way of more important things.
At least you'll have a chance to work your way through your "never watched it" pile of movies. Stay strong!👍
That's the plan!
I completely understand. Being an adult right now is hard. I can’t wait to see what you come up with in the future.
This is completely logical decision. Some years ago this happened to me too, and I decided this too. Right now I’m in a different point and buying again physical media. There are times that we have to take this type of decisions.

i am so proud of you Sue. I love knowing what's going on with your life. Everybody goes thru stuff and not telling them, but your honesty feels so refreshing. Here to see what's next to come. ❤
Thank you so much!
We’re still here to support you Susan and I completely understand the reason for the change you made…you got this!!!🙏
I had to stop buying so much physical media too unfortunately. I try to limit myself to my top two or three movies of the year, and I buy them around Christmas time as a gift for myself.
I pretty much limit to annual buying on Black Friday sales and Target buy 2 get one free sales.
Sue I'm cutting back on buying movies myself. Nothing wrong with being happy with your collection as it is
We totally trust you and know you always do what you put your mind to! ❤
Love you both so much!
I need to be like her, stop collecting physical media. Too expensive😢

You can absolutely do this! I’m quite limited with my budget every month on physical media, so this is a great idea!
Physical media is the way to go. What ever is dvd, vhs, vinyl records, video games. Books.

I will still be supporting your channel 1,000. Don't you worry Susan, we'll still support you no matter what. My name is Alfred by the way!
We understand I mean some stores are not selling physical media anymore and plus inflation is no joke
Agreed Inflation is ridiculous
Sue we will love your channel no matter what you post because it’s you that we love watching! ❤️
Thanks Aly!

In times like these, we all have to make small sacrifices to better ourselves to achieve our goals and getting back to do what we love.
hey sue, appreciate how vulnerable and honest you are in this video. you’re doing the right thing. looking forward to you upcoming content regardless!
Thank you so much!
What’s New for Blue and Weekend Watch are staples. I’m glad you can still do videos. You rock Sue

Tbh, with the prices they charge for some of the physical media now, not buying is probably what a lot of people are doing right now
Awesome that you recognized you have a problem and you are going to address it. I know is hard but at the end it will be great for you and your finances. Trust me in a year you will overcome everything. Keep the work and keep the faith everything will be fine.
Hell has frozen over. If you buy what you want today, You won't be able to pay for what you Need tomorrow. This hits hard sometimes.
I will miss the physical media pickups i loved watching your joy collecting them. However I still enjoy what you have to say, you are beautiful and your positivity and passion on your channel is refreshing and always welcome.
I appreciate that and review copies will still come in, so no worries.
I slowly quit physical media over the past year. Last title was purchased in August, and that was only purchase of 2024.

You got it, and it’s worth it!
Are you still gonna do the blu ray hunting trips ?
Soon.
Yes, but only to show you guys what's new. Not buying anything.
No freaking way I’m hearing this but I understand I’m always going to be physical over digital
I just want to move forward.
Please keep going, you’re really good at this. 🥺
Thank you so much!!
Totally understand. Going back to my comment yesterday, I've been on a buying freeze myself. The only physical media I bought all summer was a $5 steelbook of Chicago. Sometimes, this amazing hobby of ours has to be put on the back burner.
Yes, definitely! I'm actually embracing this and also kinda looking at it as a challenge!
❤
Completely understandable. I know for me, I have a bad habit of picking up physical media often bc I justify that it’s cheap (I mostly buy secondhand) and it often just sits on the shelf to never be watched. You gotta do what’s best for you.
I completely understand that.
Good timing too. It seems like 4k movies and Steelbooks are soaring in price lately. I mean $55 for Deadpool & Wolverine, etc . Whaaa?
Yes. Y is that steelbook so high?
That’s where I been for a while.
I’m only going to buy things I know I’ll watch multiple times and buy anniversary editions of select favorite movies of mine. I’m no longer blind buying nor am I going to buy movies I know will just sit on a shelf. Too expensive for that.
Sometimes a break is good, Sue. Much love n support.
Plus, I feel like I have everything at this point.... truly💯
Reviewing movies is a great way to go. Will miss your physical media vlogs.
I'm still going out to stores, just won't be buying anything!
We are all here for you! And want the best for you!! I love your channel and can’t wait for the new chapter of videos!! Best of luck with the car. Your situation is so understandable. Things are so hard right now. Be proud of this decision!!!
Thank you so much!!
This experience will make you stronger. Good luck. 👍❤️
"When you spend your money, if you're not building wealth for yourself, your building wealth for someone else."
I love collecting physical media myself, but my future comes before any nonessential products. So its always the last thing on my list. Stay the course, it'll get easier as you strengthen your discipline.
I think it will be fun to see your content of getting through your backlog list and see how you feel about it!
I think so too!
I love the idea of reviewing movies that will be sent to you and also reviewing movies on ur streaming and the movie theatres
I’m praying that god blesses you sue ❤
I appreciate that!
completely understand your decision i am also going on buying freeze for the foreseeable future it is just way too expensive anymore and i don't have any room and we all have to be more financially responsible being an adult is hard.
i had the same realisation a year ago that it was just costing too much and i wasnt watching what i bought , well done for making a sensible descison.
Which Bullmoose do you visit on the excursion trips?
It used to be Salem, NH. Now it's the new location.
That's so cool, that's mt Bullmoose! They moved to Plaistow a few months back
I don't know why, but this video made me tear up for some reason. Stay strong. Things will get better. You just have to take it one day at a time. You got this.
That's so sweet, but no reason to tear up! I'm not going anywhere.
@@MoviesSue And thank goodness for that. Something about your videos comfort me. As cheesey as that sounds, it's true.
I hate to hear that, but we can go on this journey together!
Plenty to go through once u can go back 😅
Yes! Thank you!
Hey, Sue, you have to do what makes sense for you. Very smart move. We love your channel and you have great content. Your going to be okay and we're manifesting continued growth for the channel.🤗
I appreciate that so much!
❤
I've been thinking about my spending habits when it comes to physical media as well. I still have blu-ray movies I bought between 6 months and even over 2 years ago that I haven't seen. However, I controlled myself this month since I haven't bought anything on sale from boutique labels such as Arrow, Kino Lorber, and Shout Factory.
Wish you all the best with TH-cam and also your personal life, Sue!
As always, I'm looking forward to your future content(s).😁
Thanks so much!
Nah, not
a bloody chance.
Maybe wait until Christmas come around.
One movie I never saw before and just bought recently was Permanent Record with Keanu Reeves. Was well worth buying and viewing. A heavy movie. That type of rare film that escaped
me years ago and is hard to find now, I will sometimes buy.
I had to do the same thing all my money goes on bills I still love your videos! I can't wait to see what what you come up with in the future! 🤗🙂
Awesome! Thank you!
I love everything you're doing I also haven't bought any physical media 😊
Good for you Sue! Maybe films in the collection you now get to watch, sell them if you think you'll never watch it again. One time watches sell them.. These funds can go into the pot!
they video just made me realize i need to calm down on collecting
We should all just stop for a little while,I’m sure it will do us good.
Thank you sue for this video. It really spoke to me. Keep up this type of videos. GOD BLESS YOU!!
Thank you, I will!
This is really vulnerable of you to share but I think you're making a really wise choice. I hope you're able to get the car stuff sorted out soon and I hope this experiment of not buying physical media will be a positive experience for you!
Thanks so much!
Sue how did your car overheat? It’s a fairly new car, isn’t it?
No, it's 7 years old, but the problem is worse than overheating.
@@MoviesSue thanks for replying. I’ve been down that road. It’s not fun. Hang in there. It’ll be OK.
Absolutely, no problem!
You are so brave, Sue. Speaking from experience, I dug myself a deep hole of debt twice before I learned my lesson. I believe in you. You can get it right the first time. I have going shopping and not purchasing anything to be very therapeutic. You will, too. I think. We will continue to watch as always.
Thanks for sharing!
Great and honest video! My buying freeze starts on November 1st 🤞 won’t be easy, but worth it!
Right before Black Friday! I wish you luck on your journey as well! We've got this!
I appreciate that!
Appreciate the video, with your honesty and candor. Just know you have and will help alot of other collectors to be more selective and not let the enjoyment of collecting get in the way of more important things.
Would you ever consider watching/reacting to movies you haven’t seen but already own and uploading it?
I do this video already and actually posted it yesterday!
