    The solution for the slip covers is for the manufacturer to shrink wrap the slip case like what Kino does. Not just the plastic case itself.

    Building on your point of damage, in my area only (Twin Cities MN): for some reason our Walmart system here has picked up their packaging efforts greatly. No more razor cuts on steelbooks no more dents and they are wrapping the movies in plastic air bubbles. Also Walmart in my area has begun to use sturdier boxes instead of the bagged air bubbles that never work from Amazon. Just a tip for anyone to give a shot as we are all looking for different ways to simply get what we order in good condition.

    I am in Australia, so a lot of new release titles never come out here at all, or if they do, they can be very hard to find in actual stores. Ordering online from Amazon, Zavvi or other local retailers is often the only option for getting new movies most of the time. Thankfully I haven't received many damaged items over the years, but I've been able to return the ones that were damaged without too much hassle.

  • @mrbrokefootg

    I've preordered 3 times through Amazon:
    Terminator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in one of their crappy bubble envelopes.
    Gladiator 4k steelbook - arrived on time, unharmed, in a small box with packing paper.
    Arrow's Conan Barbarian and Conan Destroyer 4k Ltd Sets - both arrived about a month late, but unharmed and shipped in a box, plus the price drop right before they shipped ($30 each!!).
    My biggest issue with Amazon is that there are so many listings with pictures that show slips but one quick read through recent reviews and you find out they're not included. Usually with titles that have been out for a while, though. But still, stinks when it shows up without a slip.
    Slipcovers are a gamble when ordering from just about anywhere. Some come shrink-wrapped, others the slip is exposed, while the case is wrapped. Slipcovers have squared off edges, and the cases are rounded - so the corners of slipcovers are always at risk for dings.
    I'll still order titles through Amazon, especially when they run their "3 for the price of 2" on 4k's, but nothing beats shopping in person for titles, new or used.

      I’m not going to stop Amazon either, but maybe go else where for the day one must haves. Late really sucks, better than damaged. Yeah the savings is nice sometimes I can’t tell if it’s manufactured savings like they purposely hold the higher price just to dip right before. A way to keep us coming back. All great pickups btw!

      I think those first/early releases come with slip covers, when those sell thru that’s it for slips. Next pressing are slip free for the most part.

    I agree with all your points, though I think Amazon has slightly improved recently. Many of my movies come in boxes now instead of plastic mailers and most pre orders have arrived on time, including the highly sought after Godzilla Minus One steelbook. As for the used movies, even if sold by Amazon I often get rewrapped movies when ordering older titles sold as “new.”

  • @soshiderek

    Amazon has become a really dodgy website.
    If it weren't for the fact they've been the top for decades, or was suddenly released today, no one would buy from there.
    Confusing UI, reviews that don't actually relate to the product you're looking at, tonnes of fake and knock off products by brands you've never heard of, different editions of the same product being listed under the same details so you can't know what the difference is between editions and have to go hunt for the one or two reviews out of hundreds that even mention it.
    I've even had items delivered to the wrong address on multiple occasions. They refunded it, but that's no use when an item sells out on preorders.
    I've also had an item shipped with no packaging. The delivery label was simply stuck to the cellophane. Needless to say it arrived damaged. I tried to send it back, and was told I needed to package it up lest it get damaged! The replacement arrived with the same lack of packaging, but thankfully undamaged.

    The thing that is really starting to annoy me is Amazon’s pricing. Willow 4K preorder went up today as a limited print steelbook (which will be the only option available in the US) for $65. That is bonkers. I’m sure the price will come down some, but the same thing happened to Inside Out 2 earlier this year and if you missed that preorder, well you weren’t getting that movie on 4K.

    • @80sMadeConsumer

    As frustrating as Amazon and big box store deliveries are today, this is sadly nothing new.
    Coming from a LE/SE video game scene from years past, it was about a 50/50 chance your $100-200 LE game would come in a box without any padding and corners mashed, or worse yet, no box and just the shipping label taped to the actual game itself, now smashed in and items crushed on the inside. Without physical retail stores carry these items it's only going to get worse moving foward.

    I always feel so awful whenever I see videos like this because I have never had one bad issue with Amazon! Now that could be because I live extremely close to a warehouse so things never ship very far to me at all assuming it’s a new item but still, I’m sorry you went through all this! I 100% agree that the lack of ability to in person shop these days has definitely put a damper on the hobby!

    Yeah, Amazon is pretty ass for buying physical media as they often come damaged. I only order if I don't care about the condition or the price is too good to pass on. I remember the first purchase I ever made was a book since I had mandatory reading time in my English class. I bought the hardcover and it came all damaged. I would have complained and tried to get a partial refund or return, but I needed to have something to read so I kept it. I honestly should have just gone to the library and grabbed anything to read, and returned the book to get my money back. Thankfully I enjoyed the book, but it would be nice to have the book I enjoyed in good condition.
    Also preordered The First Slam Dunk on Amazon and the corners of the slipcover were damaged. Thankfully it wasn't a lot but it was annoying. A few weeks later I saw it for the same price at Target and the copies they had were minty fresh.

    I've pretty much dropped ordering from Amazon due to their poor packaging. Orbit is my go to now. End up paying a bit more, but they actually take care of your stuff.
    I might take a chance on the Capra set from Amazon because its about $70 cheaper, and I can't ignore that. But I half expect to end up returning it due to damage and end up going with Orbit anyway. I bought the Flintstones complete series blu ray from Amazon in 2 different sales, and never was able to actually get a copy in hand that didn't have the case all banged up from shipping, since they pretty much ship in a plastic bag. And that's not a rare occurrence from them.

    What about putting a pre order only to find that Amazon didn't order enough stock. Then you get the Amazon will let you know when its in stock again. At times months go by and nothing. One title I pre ordered which was limited never showed.

    The other issue I have with Amazon is pricing. Terminator in Canada was $40 for preorder. I decided not to order it in case Walmart got them. Which is very rare. But they did, and they are asking $27 for it. Huge difference. Amazon has raised a lot of their prices here because they know options are very limited today. Same with Godzilla Minus One. Walmart got it, and it was $5 less than Amazon.

    This makes me think of my own experiences with ordering a movie through Amazon. I have had to cancel orders because of huge delays before being shipped, ordered 4K's expecting to get everything promised to find out the digital code had been removed, or just getting damaged or even loose disks inside the case. At least when I go to a local spot here in the town I live in, they at least know, and they have the economic sense to handle their merchandise, better than this conglomerate does.

    • @80sMadeConsumer
      @80sMadeConsumer  วันที่ผ่านมา

      The idea of connivence is more trouble than it’s worth. I would give anything to have a dedicated mom and pop movie store like the record stores. Man that’s a new one never had the code swiped. I hardly use them maybe vacation time, but that’s not the point! That sucks!

    • @anthonymerchant2597
      @anthonymerchant2597 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @80sMadeConsumer Yep I specifically ordered The Thing on 4K just to find they removed the code. I didn't have a 4K player at that time but I have a 4K Roku that I still watched 4K films on.

      @anthonymerchant2597 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @80sMadeConsumer Also having digital codes comes in handy so someone like my partner can always access those films too. I have about 61 titles that are digital, mostly from coming with the physical copies. I still prefer my physical ones but it's nice to have them accessible at anytime.

    Look big box stores no longer sell movies because the demand isn’t there anymore because digital media and streaming like Netflix, max, peacock and Disney+ and so on has taken over so why would the average person buy a movie when it will most likely end up in streaming

    • @gabrielspiropol9418
      @gabrielspiropol9418 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Even the avg person can see the difference between a streamed 4K movie and watching the same movie on a disc with a good player. The data streams and bandwidth cannot compete with the amount of data stored on physical media. Maybe when the technology improves in time, there might be some competition to look at. I’ve seen the pixelization, stair stepping, blacks not being rendered properly…. But owning a disc, that can’t be taken from you. Streaming libraries can be altered or deleted at any time, if you bought a movie and saved online, there’s no guarantee it will always be there, but owning the disc, Yeah baby, anytime any where and always perfect !
      😁👍

    • @80sMadeConsumer

      I understand that’s what is being said, but they brought back vinyl and made room on store shelf’s. If you crunch the numbers dvd out sells vinyl by a lot, maybe not like they did at the peak. I think it’s more to do with financial interests in streaming more than people just aren’t buying them. So many movies are being put out is becoming hard to keep up.

    • @BLEED.THEBLUE
      @BLEED.THEBLUE 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      The thing is there isn’t enough people supporting physical media anymore because if there was big box office stores wouldn’t have removed them from its stores and those are facts. Stores aren’t going to remove product that sells and since the demand for physical media has dropped significantly in the last few years and continues to drop well we all remember what happened to blockbuster video right and how a small company like Netflix took them out 😂😂😂😂 digital media is taking over

    • @80sMadeConsumer
      @80sMadeConsumer  7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @frommatorav1 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@BLEED.THEBLUE It's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. If you stock less physical media, or no physical media, less units will be sold.
      As for vinyl, they're charging the shit out of that stuff, so it probably has higher margins. It's also too big to steal easily, which is another concern with retail stores.

      I might look into the Walmart thing, my issue is I’m a die hard go to the store guy and Walmart is so close. And then again they have movies rarely the ones I want or DVD only. I’ve noticed that too something I preordered day one mine was a week late and a friend that preordered days before got his day one.

      Yeah Amazon is not first come first serve which seems odd to me. Yeah I am switching my media orders to Walmart it’s just too frustrating.
