I used to work in debt support and your message is brave and open and regardless of how you got there the lack of compassion is staggering. Debt can happen to anyone at anytime, overspending is only one of the reasons, so taking away any stigma is admirable. You are clearly grounded and acknowledging the problem. May I also remind you that debt is really only a calculation where liability outstrips assets and your movie collection is an asset. I’m sure you won’t sell it but it’s there as an option if you ever needed to so your number is not quite as bad as it seems on paper. It also seems you have earned money from this investment so it’s not dissimilar to a business debt which would be accepted with far less stigma if you were operating as a business. As I commented on your original video (which I literally saw for the first time today), I applaud you for taking stock of your situation, taking responsibility for it and resolving to rectify it. So many people today refuse to take responsibility and assume a victim mentality and clearly that is not you. It's a shame that you couldn't have come to this realisation sooner as that's a very serious amount of debt to clear😞but hey, better late than never ! I have stuck with these rules of physical media purchasing: Only buy what I will watch multiple times. Mostly buy during sales; Prime Days, Black Friday, etc. Don’t buy multiple versions of the same format for one title. Unless there are features lost or it is a title you are a huge fan of, when upgrading a movie to a new format, trade in previous versions for credit or sell.
I've been stuttering for almost 50 years, i know a lot about rude and cruel comments...you have to close ears and eyes...and keep making your own road... I am 100% sure that the success of your channel will help you to get out of your financial situation. Couldn’t help but comment and say that you are incredibly strong to come out and be vulnerable in front of us. Just know that we all have our problems money, relationship, work, whatever. The important thing is that you recognize it and are taking action. Sometimes people don’t want to deal with their own shit and inadequacies so they try to push others down just to make somebody else feel as miserable as them. I’d really hate to even think what demons those people are dealing with that they feel the need to pick on you for being open. The positive of this is that you are shedding yourself of debt AND your saving your energy that would have been spent focusing on nothing people in your life. Hi Sue....I'm sorry about your situation of your debt. I understand completely....because I am in a somewhat similar situation with debt. As far as other Physical Media content youtubers.....I have notice that alot of content creators who focus on Physical Media mention they are on a "Freeze" from buying physical media. The only reason I have been noticing this is cause I've been on a "Freeze" myself. Mainly because I was laid off my job after 29 years......but also Physical Media has become so expensive. Sure there are sales, but prices have definitely increased on physical media. So it's no wonder why most of the physical media youtubers I watch are on a "Freeze". So I just think we are all in a common place right now with "debt" and "being on a freeze" with physical media. I just have the ultimate respect for you sharing your story with us. I wouldn't worry too much about other content creators who focus with physical media or the reddit trolls.....there is always someone who is going to have an opinion you might not like......just ignore....and I wouldn't even bother to acknowledge the trolls.....I know it's hard sometimes.....but it isn't worth the time or the energy. It’s easy to lose control when you collect. I now only buy select titles mainly from boutique labels. Mostly horror and cult films. However , I have nearly 4000 Blu rays in my collection as a result of wanting everything early on. Here is the bad part. The overwhelming majority of physical media we own are worth just a fraction of what we paid for it. There are exceptions but most of them are worth next to nothing. It’s hard to even give them away these days. My advice is to just buy movies you truly care about.

Don't let the haters get to you! I can relate to the weight comments as I've gotten a few rude comments on my videos unfortunately. I post a bunch of me performing with my group or playing my trumpet and ive gotten some rude comments. The way I see it, the ones that post those nasty comments are just bitter at seeing someone else succeed other than them. I'm sorry to here about your debt issues. I hope that gets resolved soon.
Cars are such a money suck and while it sucks having to pause on physical media you're doing the right move take care of what needs to be taken care of and then when you're able to, come back to your hobby.
Sorry to hear about u being in debt. I am a physical media collector as well which my collection is over 6400 titles right now. Been collecting over 40 years now. There are alot of dvds that are near $100 range which I would love to get but it's out of my budget. I am glad that you are going to get out of debt and that will take some time since u are in debt to a tune of $26,000. U can do it. Live within a budget like I have been. Keep making above the minimum payment and your debt will go down faster.
Good to know you're not bothered by the negativity. I had fat comments sent to me on forums where I never once posted a photo or video. LOL. So yeah, it's a cheap and immature thing. I don't think your debt is really that bad. I have heard so much worse. It will just take a little time. I did the whole buying freeze and it works really well. Did it a few times over the years and it kind of makes it cool when you come back to collecting because there is so much new to explore.

Easier said than done I know, but stop searching out comments on social media, don’t count on or expect support from the community. Your video was for your own personal reasons and what ANYONE thinks or anyone reacts is not why you did it so don’t concern yourself with it. Social media is a good thing at times, but it is also a reflection 10x over of how inhumane a lot of supposed humans are and it will eat you up if you let it.

As you have seen there are ignorant people and they are not worth wasting your time reading. I provided content for a pretty successful fandom website in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Took a lot of shit from folks and I finally just stopped searching it out. Stuck to putting content out and didn’t look for or search out responses on message boards.

What I would do in the future sue is have just one credit card or get rid of all credit cards and just get a debit card that's all I have also I would sell some of your media on ebay it's free to sell on there at the moment...plus cut all your cards up it will stop you getting tempted to spend more money...I just hope you sort it out sue there's help out there if it starts to get on top of you...good luck sue!

I saw the comments on reddit and it's just sickening how people are so toxic and judgemental as if not a single one of them ever overspent on a credit card. And they all missed the main point of your video which was to warn collectors not to fall in debt trap. Credit card debt is over 1 trillion in 2024. This clearly means that many Americans are spending beyond their means and the same people who would mock someone for racking up debt on physical media probably wouldn't turn down an offer to go to a concert or eat out even though they couldn't afford it. We need more discussion and less shaming on the topic of credit card debt because these damn things are designed to trap people in an endless debt cycle.

Honestly, I've known you were around on youtube for awhile but never really watched much of your content, but your honesty about everything is extremely rare and because of it I've subscribed to your channel and cancelled my two pre-orders of movies I have waiting for me because if you're going cold turkey, so am I, so I'll also not be buying physical media as a form of support. That urge to buy does subside, for me it was staying away from all mention of the thing I get obsessed with. It's like stopping coffee all of a sudden. I wish you success don't let others get you down especially now.
I totally understand as I've been there myself but you've owned up to the problem which is the first step and one day you will be at the other end and it is such a relief 😊 I now collect again but I'm very strict with my budget. Hi Sue....I'm sorry about your situation of your debt. I understand completely....because I am in a somewhat similar situation with debt. As far as other Physical Media content youtubers.....I have notice that alot of content creators who focus on Physical Media mention they are on a "Freeze" from buying physical media. The only reason I have been noticing this is cause I've been on a "Freeze" myself. Mainly because I was laid off my job after 29 years......but also Physical Media has become so expensive. Sure there are sales, but prices have definitely increased on physical media. So it's no wonder why most of the physical media youtubers I watch are on a "Freeze". So I just think we are all in a common place right now with "debt" and "being on a freeze" with physical media. I just have the ultimate respect for you sharing your story with us. I wouldn't worry too much about other content creators who focus with physical media or the reddit trolls.....there is always someone who is going to have an opinion you might not like......just ignore....and I wouldn't even bother to acknowledge the trolls.....I know it's hard sometimes.....but it isn't worth the time or the energy. It’s easy to lose control when you collect. I now only buy select titles mainly from boutique labels. Mostly horror and cult films. However , I have nearly 4000 Blu rays in my collection as a result of wanting everything early on. Here is the bad part. The overwhelming majority of physical media we own are worth just a fraction of what we paid for it. There are exceptions but most of them are worth next to nothing. It’s hard to even give them away these days. My advice is to just buy movies you truly care about.

Reddit is truly a breeding ground for negative stuff. Especially with oversharing. It's the worst of the socials i'd say. Twitter too and I was on that for years until the recent block change. I moved to BlueSky. But anyway (off topic a bit)!
The big take away from this to me is that you've got a movement going for sure. I don't know how people could call you a Karen. Even from that video alone of you being open & honest like that. Make it make sense people! 😂

Don't let the haters get to you! I can relate to the weight comments as I've gotten a few rude comments on my videos unfortunately. I post a bunch of me performing with my group or playing my trumpet and ive gotten some rude comments. The way I see it, the ones that post those nasty comments are just bitter at seeing someone else succeed other than them.
I'm sorry to here about your debt issues. I hope that gets resolved soon.

Sorry to hear about u being in debt. I am a physical media collector as well which my collection is over 6400 titles right now. Been collecting over 40 years now. There are alot of dvds that are near $100 range which I would love to get but it's out of my budget. I am glad that you are going to get out of debt and that will take some time since u are in debt to a tune of $26,000. U can do it. Live within a budget like I have been. Keep making above the minimum payment and your debt will go down faster.
Good to know you're not bothered by the negativity. I had fat comments sent to me on forums where I never once posted a photo or video. LOL. So yeah, it's a cheap and immature thing. I don't think your debt is really that bad. I have heard so much worse. It will just take a little time. I did the whole buying freeze and it works really well. Did it a few times over the years and it kind of makes it cool when you come back to collecting because there is so much new to explore.
Such a shame that people are stooping so low to insult you the way that they are. The whole reason I subbed to you is because you come across as genuine. Never got the sense you were fake, or a Karen.

Easier said than done I know, but stop searching out comments on social media, don’t count on or expect support from the community. Your video was for your own personal reasons and what ANYONE thinks or anyone reacts is not why you did it so don’t concern yourself with it. Social media is a good thing at times, but it is also a reflection 10x over of how inhumane a lot of supposed humans are and it will eat you up if you let it.
I'm not searching out comments. I'm simply talking about what's happening in my life.

As you have seen there are ignorant people and they are not worth wasting your time reading. I provided content for a pretty successful fandom website in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Took a lot of shit from folks and I finally just stopped searching it out. Stuck to putting content out and didn’t look for or search out responses on message boards.

What I would do in the future sue is have just one credit card or get rid of all credit cards and just get a debit card that's all I have also I would sell some of your media on ebay it's free to sell on there at the moment...plus cut all your cards up it will stop you getting tempted to spend more money...I just hope you sort it out sue there's help out there if it starts to get on top of you...good luck sue!

I saw the comments on reddit and it's just sickening how people are so toxic and judgemental as if not a single one of them ever overspent on a credit card. And they all missed the main point of your video which was to warn collectors not to fall in debt trap. Credit card debt is over 1 trillion in 2024. This clearly means that many Americans are spending beyond their means and the same people who would mock someone for racking up debt on physical media probably wouldn't turn down an offer to go to a concert or eat out even though they couldn't afford it. We need more discussion and less shaming on the topic of credit card debt because these damn things are designed to trap people in an endless debt cycle.
