I've been collecting for over 30 years, and I'm still loving it. I only buy things that I can afford. And I don't give into FOMO. If I buy a Blu-Ray and then they drop a cool 4K Steelbook, I think "dang it" and move on. And I actually watch the movies I buy. I'm not collecting just to collect. I'm collecting because I love watching movies.
I feel like you should only own what you want to own and what you’ll watch multiple times, you don’t need every new release and if anything you could get many other films you love for the same cost as a new 4K or cheaper. Only invest in what you have and what’s comfortable for you.
I have been collecting for a while. One of my "core" philosophy which worked for me so far is - Do not buy the same movie twice. Here is how i do it - (1) When I buy a movie, I try to buy the best format available for example buy the 4KUHD-Blu Ray combo if available vs. just the Blu Ray or just 4KUHD. Collector set/box set over individual release. (2) Maintain a catalog (i have a Letterboxd list) so I don't buy the same movie again, by mistake. (3) Even if I miss out a release with a slip case and the same movie is later available with an updated slip case or packaging element, I won't touch it.
I get what you're saying man, and it's totally valid. I've always approached physical media from a movie-over-packaging perspective and because of that I've been able to avoid all the fomo and insane prices. These days I get the most fun out of thrifting for movies on the second hand market, I've been doing that since the VHS days and if anything it's gotten better over time. If this hobby is a true passion of yours I hope you get back to the fun of it in the near future!
Oh I’m with you on that side of it man! I’ll always collect and I probably should’ve made sure to emphasize that more in the video. I just don’t play the game of new releases much at all. Thanks for watching !
As somebody that’s been collecting movies since DVDs first came out, I think the best thing to do is to not upgrade especially if you have the Blu-ray just buy new releases. I own roughly 1000 movies 40% of them are DVD another 40% is Blu-ray and 20% 4K Blu-ray. Going forward everything I buy is 4K Blu-ray but in reality I only purchased about 10 movies this year.
@@Talesfromtheshelf yeah, I bought Unforgiven on 4k although owning it on bluray and kinda regretted it afterwards, despite the new release having a nice crisper pic. Also I think the whole collecting aspect is wrong in a sense, in my opinion. When I bought my first dvd back in 2000, I did so, because I wanted to see that particular movie. 24 years forwards it's become: I need this, I need that, fill my shelves.. without even always feeling that "I would like to see this movie."
@@bachtuna lol really that’s good to know :) obviously reading comprehensions is not your strong point. Maybe you missed a point that I have about 1000 movies. I have pretty much every movie I want. I only need to purchase movies that are new as they come out.
It's so frigging expensive for the "boutique titles" The fun is going to a Goodwill or any of those thrift shops and finding a title you've been looking for or just a great title.
When I first started buying movies, they were on VHS. When DVD came along, I recognized that the upgrade in picture quality and the inclusion of special features was a massive upgrade. (Having never really known anything about LaserDisc, the directors' commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, etc really blew me away.) When Blu-Ray came along, again, I recognized that it was a big upgrade over DVD. Not only was the picture quality clearly better but the Blu-Ray often had additional content that the DVD didn't. When 4K came along, I jumped aboard. I have a 4K player and about 20 4K discs. But it's the first format where I'm not really sure that the improvements are worth it. Many times I find the 4K picture quality to be nearly indistinguishable from Blu-Ray. Honestly, I think we could just stick with 1080p from here on out and I would be content.
Sucks to be you watching crappy dvds and Blu rays which is a shameful disservice to your eyes and ears. Us true cinefiles won’t listen to your idiot talk that has the same value as my last fart 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
Dolby Vision and Atmos has been the deciding factor with my 4k purchases the last couple of years. The only exceptions are films that I absolutely LOVE. I’m exhausted with rebuying the same movies, especially if it’s something that could be made obsolete tomorrow, if a company would put in just a little more effort.
To me, I still collect physical media for both Blu-Ray and DVD. I’m not allowed to collect 4K Blu-ray because it is looking very expensive as opposed to standard Blu-ray. Standard Blu-ray is more cheaper than 4K Blu-ray. Furthermore, I am allowed to just stick to 1080p from now on and I would be very real to me.
The algothrim took me here, but I agree with what you’re saying and I think it comes across as genuine. My own example is I love Halloween (1978) so I went out and bought the 4K upgrade from Scream Factory despite having the 15-disc box set from years ago. I’ve just cherry picked the sequels I want on 4K at this point for the rest of the series.
@@3056398 thank you for watching! If you’re gonna upgrade a movie to 4k Halloween is a very good option. The rest of the franchise, not so much in my opinion lol.
I've been collecting since VHS. I can't tell you how many times I've bought all the Lucas and Spielberg, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, etc etc. I think you're giving good advice, though everyone is different. I made a pact with myself in 2015 that I would keep no more than 1,000 discs in my collection. I currently have 789. For those that have large collections, be sure to do the math and be sure you can watch them all before you die.
The best thing I can recommend is to get a good 4K Bluray Player like one of the recent Panasonic players or the Sony UB-X800 Mk2. You'll be absolutely blown away by the picture quality these players squeeze out of DVD's and regular Blurays. And you won't feel any need to "upgrade" your collection to 4k. DVD's and Blurays are dirt cheap when buying second hand right now.
@zeebooboo9663 over here in Europe they are not, but I saw that in the US you can buy region free versions of both Sony and Panasonic players. There are also many videos on how to perform a region free hack on these players. Haven't tried that.
I have to agree with you on many points because collecting physical media these days no longer has the same effect as it did in the 80s, 90s and 2000s and I have been collecting myself for over 30 years, so I can easily assess how the hobby has developed over time the decades changed. The 4K format doesn't have much appeal for me personally and as you said, 90% of the films released have been available on Bluray for years and are significantly cheaper. In addition, I'm a retro film fan and don't need to see everything ultra sharp because a lot of it loses its charm, which of course is just my opinion. I also realize that nowadays this hobby is purely a collector's market, which is basically only interesting for hardcore collectors who can't pre-order the stuff fast enough because of the "FOMO" effect. Personally, I was always only interested in the film when I bought it physically, but somehow I get the feeling that the film itself is no longer the focus for many collectors like it used to be. Instead, they moan when the standard 4K Blu-ray comes without a slipcover, which I cannot understand, and in the end you are ruining your own hobby if you are only interested in steelbooks, large boxes, and slipcovers 🤦♂️ This isn't meant to be hateful, it's just a personal recognition of mine. I still watch films on DVD today because for me it's not necessarily about the best quality, it's the content and what you associate with it that's important. Godspeed 🤘
DUDE you absolutely hit the nail on the head. I agree with everything you said. I wanna emphasize that I don’t necessarily judge anyone who feels the opposite as you and I do, it’s definitely not meant to be hateful or anything. It’s all just how I’ve adapted and shifted my habits over the years. I think people need to be okay with collecting differently as time goes on. You can’t always just go pedal the medal and buy everything. It’s not sustainable.
Laserdisc and VHS were one thing, HD changed the landscape so it was a whole new ballgame. If anything, the HD formats served to revitalize collecting. We now have our favorite movies in the best possible quality and if you're a true film fan, you'd be rejoicing and singing the praises. We've never had it so good.
@@luisdomenech539 I don't see it that way and I'm clearly a film fan with passion and just because the 4K format is now supposed to be the only true way to watch your favorite films, then you haven't understood that every film fan works differently and has different priorities than the so-called hardcore collector community . You don't have to agree but at least you should respect it, after all it's a hobby that should be fun for those who do it, no matter what someone else thinks of it, but unfortunately many of today's film collectors only see that you have to be constantly up to date.
I feel you on this. Physical for me is for preserving the version & features I want on without worrying about licensing in the future. But I agree, just upgrading to upgrade is diminishing returns.
I try only purchasing movies that I can see myself watching multiple times, which is actually fairly easy to stick to. Except for when it comes to Arrow Video box sets, I have convinced myself to buy movies that I don’t know if I will ever watch.
That’s a big part of it. If we have unwatched movies in our collection, 9/10 times it’s because we don’t actually want to watch those movies, we just convinced ourselves we did.
I have never thought of your channel as a physical media release channel . I enjoy the videos like this one where you encourage discussions about movies , or videos like the 'horror movies don't care about Oscars' or the ' watching in the Letterboxd era ' . The idea that a movie I considered bad might be better on a second watch in 4K never made sense to me but I do watch remakes of bad movies hoping they will be better 😄
Thank you!! I know I make physical media topic videos occasionally, but the intent is to speak to larger issues about mentality and culture and not so much about like, my personal collection. Thanks for watching as always my man.
Thank you, Mark for this, honest thoughts, no sugarcoating! I've been collecting movies since my first job after high school. Started with DVDs, progressed to blu-rays and now adding 4Ks. But my collection over several years was very small but it had the movies that mattered to me, ones that I would watch multiple times. Every since I started collecting 4Ks in 2021, it spiraled out of control and now I am in the process of curating and downsizing, which is fun but totally unnecessary if I stuck to collecting my favourites from the beginning. My biggest advice is to collect what matters to you. And do not let FOMO get you. There are several TH-cam channels that thrive on purchasing and showing off their physical media courtesy of their subscribers and watch time, they get kickbacks from your purchases, studios send them review copies etc. This does not apply to the common folk. Assess your situation, reflect on the movie and then make the call.
Thank you! All I can do at the end of the day is give my thoughts on this hobby that I do truly love, but the current landscape is simply not fun for me anymore. So rather than it being a hobby where I’m buying things very frequently, it’s more of a thing where I get excited about a release once maybe every six months and instead I focus on enjoying all the discs I already have. Great advice and thank you for watching and leaving this comment. 🤝
I went pretty hard collecting DVDs back in the day. Once Blu-ray came out it was confusing with the HDDVD war so I didn’t get into collecting Blu-ray. I am an absolute nut at collecting 4K nowadays. I love it! It would be kind of a bummer if you already have a huge Blu-ray collection and you have to decide what to upgrade. I’m having a great time collecting boutique 4Ks and limited editions of my favorite films. This is the last format we are going to have, so I want all of the nicest editions, and that’s what I collect.
@ Absolutely! If you can’t afford this hobby, it would be absolutely asinine to be in it. Pay $15/month to stream all of this stuff! I have seen TH-camrs make videos about going into debt collecting movies and it boggles my mind. You seem to know what works for you, and that’s what matters.
I’ve taken a year long break and it’s was probably the best financial decisions I’ve made. I’ll start buying physical media again, but I don’t need everything. All I want is to curate a collection that means something to me and one day be done. I no longer care about the shiny limited edition box sets for films I’ll probably not even like.
Physical media is fun to collect and display, but extra features can only get you so far. It's almost more important to buy physical media of older movies in their original state rather than upgraded quality versions with "extra features." My favorite Star Wars movie growing up was A New Hope and it was a VHS copy made by my dad from a recording he made when it aired on network television. Imagine my surprise when I first saw the Blu-ray version!
Dude I needed to hear this. I have a couple blus sitting on my "to sell" pile just because a new release with a slip is coming out for one, and a 4k of the other, and both movies are perfectly fine on blu. So I am now moving those back to the shelf and marking them off my to rebuy list, and I already knew it, but you really have helped me decide I need to actually take more action like this.
I definitely don’t want to tell anyone how they should collect, but if by offering some of my perspective I can help someone else make a good decision I’ll consider that to be a good thing. Thanks for watching man
I am older guy and honestly I agree the prices are getting ridiculous. I love marvel but have not bought most of the last phase releases because the movies aren’t very good and the price is too high for a poor movie. I don’t hate DVDS and actually like some of the old menu interactions and features. What I have started doing to have fun again is hitting second hand stores and picking up older movies I don’t have for a buck or 2 a piece. I actually prefer buying an older movie that way because the older cases are very sturdy and I feel the discs were actually made better. If I order the same thing new off Amazon the case is so flimsy it’s not really protecting the movie. Sometimes the newer releases also have a different soundtrack because of expired rights and such. Going and buying everything in the box store is boring but stoping at a second hand store with no idea what you may stumble across is exciting!
Well said on all counts! Buying things second hand and finding gems in the wild is really where the hobby can shine, but those moments for me have been few and far between. Thank you for watching and your insightful comment!
This is the same shit that got me out of physical media in 2010 or so. I had a massive DVD collection I'd been curating for about a decade, and blu ray was starting to pop off, and I was very daunted by the idea of double-dipping on dozens of films. Around that time streaming was becoming a thing, so I was subscribed to Netflix disc service and got streaming, Redbox was a thing, and I stopped buying in favor of renting discs and streaming. I went most of the 2010s not buying very much, just the occasional release of a film I REALLY loved. Got sucked back in the past few years for 4k, but I still have many of my old DVDs from back in the day, and I'm only upgrading them from time to time when I find a good deal. Plus the move from DVD to 4k is a lot more apparent than blu ray to 4k
Man, yeah I feel for you. I can’t imagine having to go through this whole thing twice haha. Thanks for watching and your insight. It’s important to hear for me because it kinda reminds me that this has been a problem a lot longer than I’ve been collecting.
The FOMO thing is the reason I don't watch nor do I make any "haul" or "unboxing" videos - for me it's too much focus on the consumption aspect, like "look what I got" and shit
Dude same. I would so much rather talk about the movies themselves as opposed to just showing off a bunch of shit I spent money on. There’s not as much substance to the latter, imo. No shade to those who do that! I watch that kinda stuff all the time. It’s just not what I enjoy doing personally.
@@Talesfromtheshelf I even talk about releases (on my other channel), cause it’s fun to see what’s coming out, but I don’t wanna show a pile of movies I bought lol
I think that after the journey you've been on, you've come to the conclusion to be practical. My 4k collection has overtaken my BR because I didn't have many BRs to begin with. I've doubled dipped on some movies, but not many. I, too, am starting to hit that wall now.
@@m.dorado6966 you’re definitely right in saying that. Eventually this is where I’ve landed at, and I’m pretty happy with it all things considered. I don’t spend much money these days on movies and I have a ton of stuff still unwatched to go through. All in all, no complaints.
Being a collector from the VHS years, DVDs were a huge jump in quality and Blurays were "OK" depending on the release (not so much like Evil Dead 2) but regardless , Blurays were excellent enough to the point that I saw zero point in upgrading anyfurther. 4Ks? Nah, waste of money for me.
Collecting Physical is still fun. It's still enjoyable to get your favourite films or blind buy a movie in a genre you like but perhaps haven't seen that particular title. (Ie; what i do with Giallo films). The only thing I'd say isn't the "fun" part is not having the money to keep up with all these new box sets. Ie; Shaw Brothers boxes, Giallo boxes, TV Series Box sets etc etc. FOMO of the special editions getting sold out before you have the money, and being left with getting the basic edition or having to get scalped by eBay assh*les.
Thanks for another great video. I fully agree that this hobby can sometimes become extremely irritating. Sadly, I started collecting DVDs back in the late 90's. So my DVD library was pretty substantial before I made the leap over to Blu-ray. Around 1000 DVDs in total at the time. So the upgrade was gradual & expensive. Then we get 4k, with this special edition, then that ultimate edition, then the super mega ultra edition. So yeah, only someone who was super looney toonie or is a sadist would continue to play such games IMO. Also, I feel compelled to add. How very irritating I find yt creators who honestly buy every single new release that comes out. Only for show & never to actually watch. It just really bugs me to my core for some reason. I get it, each to their own. But that seems like more of a mental health issue, than an honest collector IMO🤪!!! Thanks again for the awesome video!
It's tough to stay sane in this hobby sometimes. Everyone is allowed to do what they want, but it doesn’t mean we need to try to do the same thing if it’s not right for our individual situation. Thanks for watching !
Your Dead Silence point hit home lol. I've found myself fall victim to that. I also found myself buying a lot of movies I had never seen before and then not liking them when I watch it. I've made a rule for myself to not blind buy too many movies, especially the niche ones.
That’s where streaming comes in handy man. I think more people should be open to the idea of watching something they’re interested first, and then making the decision to purchase.
Greetings from great Britain...interesting balanced points..im 58 years old...im a recent collector of films...although as a mad music fan own lots of concerts and guitar dvds...with about a 100 or so favourite films and TV SHOWS..but ...recently as people off loaded their DVDS ive built up a film collection that i could have only dreamt of in the 90s..and 00s....ive even seen blu-ray coming up at charity shops...streaming both for films and music...people been happy to rent their van halen albums rather than owning the CDs...and the hit and miss watch it quick before its taken off amazon prime lol...its been a real blessing to a guy like me who in a reasonably paid job...not to mention how cheap it is to buy a decent TV...im quite happy with DVD and blu-ray as a special treat if its cheap..or has good extras....ive bought some nice boxsets on ebay...but sadly people are catching on...prices are rising...im glad i bought most of my favourite dvds when they've were literally giving them away...before physical media became a "thing"...
@Talesfromtheshelf just read my comment...when I said "reasonably paid job" I meant reasonably low paid job lol...hence why cheap DVDS and CDs have been great..
I totally agree. It is crazy to say this but I've basically dropped out of the physical media collector hobby. Back in the day, I collected VHS, then DVD, then blu ray, but when 4K came along I jumped ship. I simply cannot justify those insane prices. Nor am I interested in rebuying everything I've bought before. I'm not a slip cover fetishist, so I also got left behind when so much more emphasis stated being placed on presentation and packaging. The era of a great, obscure movie loaded with come cool features at a decent price are over. And so I'm OUT!!
My first time watching one of your videos, well done video. 💯 agree on everything you said! I’m getting tired of it as well! I don’t cave into 4K when I have the blu, and I wish other people wouldn’t either. Just subscribed
My Case is different. I never own any Movies in any Format, so 4K for me is no brainer. I decided to start collecting 4k movies in 2020 and i have close to 500 movies, and out of those 500 movies, at list 450 are in 4k. I don't BUY just for buying and keep up with the Jones. My Rules are Simple, No Double Deeping of any kind and I only buy the the movies that will be watching more than one. So Far no Regret and I planning to keep it that way. Great Content and New to your channel.
I'm still on DVD. Never upgraded to blu-ray. There isn't much new coming out I enjoy and I have most of the older media I love on DVD already so it doesn't really cost me much continuing my collection with the odd new movie or TV show I want on DVD.
I’ve always been a big fan of Dead Silence, so I was excited to upgrade my dvd to the Scream Factory collector’s edition. I totally agree with you that 2 slipcovers for 1 movie makes no sense though - I’m using the one with the new artwork and the other one just lives in one of my dresser drawers. 😂
@@Talesfromtheshelf No worries, my friend. I understand where you were coming from and I understand that not everyone is gonna be a fan of the same things. I didn't take any offense by what you said about it, I just wanted to show it some love in the comments! I think James Wan is a great modern horror director and it made me happy to see one of his lesser known movies get the treatment I think it deserves. The same goes for Mike Flanagan's Hush. I really hope Scream Factory releases more of his work, like Oculus and Before I Wake. 🙂
My philosophy is I only acquire it if I stumble upon it in a thrift store for under $3 (and it essentially matches my list of stuff I'm looking for) This way you don't spend ridiculous amounts of cash, and each find has a memory attached to it
I agree with everything you said in this video. I've been collecting film on physical media for the last 35-40 years. I have thousands of films in my collection. Everything from LaserDisc and Betamax to DVD and Blu-ray. Maybe it's my old man eyes (45m) but most of the time, I can barely tell the difference between 4K and Blu-ray. I would much rather spend the premium $ on an amazing boutique release.
You are right on the money with this. I fairly recently got into 4K. I was waiting to see if this was going to be an HD DVD thing weather it be a fad or competition came in like Bluray and won out. I will say I have double dipped a few times going from bluray to 4K I have also been extremely selective. I am also a long time record collector and it goes just the same... not all pressings and masters are created equal and either are the 4K's. It will depend on the studio and or boutique lable on how well its done. For I don't understand the new art work or covers. Personally on every movie I buy I wil always prefer to have the original box art that was with the film when it was released. I don't need dopey cards or pins. I do appreciate the posters but in general the extras do nothing. Its all about the film and the features. If I hear about a movie that I love looks great and may never look any better. I will definitely buy it. Especially older films shot on film from my childhood.
Understandable. I agree on your first point, however, this was the same struggle from dvd to Blu-ray and in 10 years we’ll be talking about the next format very likely. Upgrade the titles that you love only.
Thanks for the valid wise words. I agree with you. The 4K transfers indeed are more a gimmick at times. I liked your boutique label treatment comment and the "polishing a turd". There seems a deafening silence on the other side, Studios etc saying why the silly prices, owning and admitting to visual or audio quality that isn't much over Blu Ray. Movies are art, a conversation, an experience -- physical Media needs to be profitable for those who make it but indeed seems, as you adeptly put it, anri consumer come pricing etc Streaming since 2020 showed people they didn't need to go to the novies, and idiotic Covid responses forced people onto streaming as cinemas closed etc Now streaming, in my opinion, has proven nothing more than a parasitic blight upon the Cinematic Arts. And it dominates how people consume entertainment and how some content is created...with Actors and all involved getting more a bum deal while Streaming services continue to make profit off the created content. Streaming services ensures less jobs, less people involved, less business. Physical Media employs people, causes economic overflow into other industries (like Hospitality, like the Video rental store) - "going to the movies" was a thing once and many pple benefited from it Streaming services pocket most of that now.
You aren't alone, collecting any kind of physical media is a pain, especially if it's sports card or comics where you are grading the stuff on top of trying to find it. However, as you mentioned, once you have your CORE collection it gets a lot easier. Just don't collect everything, pick 1 maybe two directions and stick with them period.
@@Missionmedia2022 Yoo I’m glad you like it! Perhaps I should’ve chosen a different example 😭 my intention was not to shit on the movie, but rather to emphasize that sometimes glossy new releases can trick people into thinking they want something that they don’t really want.
8:15 THIS. I recenty got frustrated because I bought the Seinfeld compete series DVD, ripped, sorted, and encoded all the files...only for the 4K and Blu-Ray sets to come out mere days later. But you know what? I'm not really excited about Seinfeld. I'm not watching it anytime soon. I want it, but I only got it because the DVDs were so cheap. After I get media I want more, I'll probably finally shell out the cash for the 4K boxset, if it's still around. I'm now buying Blu-Rays for shows I watched as a teen before collecting, but never finished because I switched to collecting and watching content that I own. So I'm excited for stuff like The Last Ship and Flashpoint Blu-Rays to get in the mail.
Agree, starting collecting again this year which I only did in the VHS era and now today I'm sitting here like "Why did I just purchase Looking For Mr. Goodbar on UHD?"
Everyone likes and prioritizes different things. All our financial and spatial situations are different. Even if we can afford to buy something we should ask ourselves “do i really need this?” Just my two cents. Thanks for watching !!
I pretty much agree with you. You really need to scrutinize the quality of every release because between the studios and the boutique labels, you just dont know what your getting. And its not like these releases are getting any cheaper. Zodiac was disappointing and im thinking of sending the 4k back to Amazon. Its just not worth it. Every movie is different and its worth needs to be judged. But then you have a certain physical media channel telling me that "we are taking it too seriously and we should be happy with what we get."
At the end of the day it’s on us as individuals. We’re all responsible for ourselves and shouldn’t look to others to inform our decisions. We can take advice and from others but ultimately we have to do what’s best for ourselves. If you can collect within your means and still buy everything you feel like you need, then more power to ya. Thank you for watching my video
i'm a very basic collector. blu-rays are the perfect medium for me. i don't even own a 4k tv. 😂plus i have sooo many dvds that will never be upgraded. those are movies that started my collection back in my teen years. and to be honest sometimes i do like that "retro style" quite a lot. my rocky dvd collection is still awesome. i like that it's a bit grainy and i'm not able to count the pores on rocky's face 😜
I never got into the 4K format, I get blue rays and the DVD if I can't get it on Blue Ray or if it isn't offered any other way, but 4K actually makes me dizzy watching it, so I'm all good with that. I only bought a 4K because I couldn't find the movie I like on Blue Ray and it came with that, I don't even own a 4K player.
If there’s a film comes out and I don’t get it..I’m not concerned. Something else will be released I’ll purchase. That’s my mindset..and with the prices going up, I’m cutting back a lot
I owned the VHS for the four Alien movies. I upgraded to DVD, and then again to Blu-ray. I'm not sure if a 4k version exists yet, but I wouldn't upgrade further. Each previous upgrade has been a definite improvement, but I don't think I can justify getting the 4K of them. I now have a system which determines what format I'll get something on. If it's something I would like to see, or have heard is quite good, or I don't believe really benefits from even being in HD (such as many old TV shows shot on video), then I'll get the DVD. Often second hand. It's cheap, and gets the job done. Blu-rays are for the stuff I'm more invested in. This also includes my Doctor Who Collection sets, even though they were mostly shot on video, and I don't feel I can see a massive difference with the upscaling. But I love the show, and feel they've knocked it out of the park with the amount of material, and overall design of those sets. I reserve 4K for things I feel benefit most from the format. These are visually stunning movies. I own Dune and the Mission: Impossible series on 4K, as well as a smattering of others. But the collection is much smaller. I won't upgrade unless there's a really compelling reason to. I hesitated about upgrading my Doctor Who collection. But when I saw the Season 12 set in HMV a number of years ago, I bought it as an impulse buy, and feel that, at least, is worth it. Got Marvel phases 1-3 on blu-ray, but I have no plans to upgrade to 4K. I still have LOTR on DVD, though I really should have upgraded to blu-ray years ago. Still hesitant about 4K. Still got my old Buffy and Angel DVDs, though from what I've heard about the Blu-rays, I feel I've got the better deal.
Sounds like a good system man. I don’t believe Buffy or Angel have blu rays. However I think I’d have to check those out if they ever came out. I love Buffy.
Good video. I only just started collecting movies, so im just going with 4k. A lot of the ones i want are classics that have been out for long enough to be found for like $10 on sales. But i can see fomo kreeping in at times and some stuff u regret buying. I try to just stick to movies i already love, and almost never bother with steelbooks
I got a 4k tv in 2018 but i ended up not buying a 4k player because there wasn’t much available and just snoozed on it til this last year when i just started grabbing any dvd i got my hands on for dirt cheap and just watched them on a crt to avoid the bad looking upscaling of modern tvs. Now i have a 4k player and i’m trying not to fall in the pit of buying expensive releases of sub-par movies that i enjoy but not that much. I’ve found that titles i really like that are niche still go on sale and i’m glad i didn’t have to feel the fomo of them disappearing in the earlier days. On an added note i still think 99% of the blu-rays i watch are amazing! 1080p looks sick on a good transfer. Resolution isn’t the end all be all people try to make it out to be.
Good points. I know this option isn't for everyone, but I keep a 1080 tv just so I can watch my dvds on a bluray player. My 4k tvs hate dvd's, they mostly look horrible.
4k is a waste of money IMO. For films released in the 90s and up you could get away with DVD. For films released in the 80s or lower I would suggest Blu-Ray. But this whole 4k thing / obsession is ridiculous. The fact that you have to buy a whole new 4k disc player in order to even view the film isn't worth it. Stick with your Blu-Ray players or Xboxs / Playstations. That's all you really need IMO. I'm NEVER buying 4k's or a 4k player. Not falling into that scam. I'm gonna assume you'd have to buy a whole new type of TV too in order view a 4k disc properly. No, thanks. Lol.
Wasn't that the same case with Blu-ray or maybe you are too young to have experienced the transition from DVD. You still had to buy a new player and disc to experience Blu-ray. Yes, the image is better quality from those two mediums, but to say 4k is an absolute waste is a false statement or opinion.
I'm kind of with you man. I want to make my channel a place to celebrate movies. With very little focus on physical media unless I'm just gushing over the poster artwork. This is what frustrates me with screen factory, not only are they only releasing upgrades but there's no reversal artwork. And maybe one new commentary. I've only upgraded a few movies from scream fracturing and I've ended up keeping the Blu-Ray so I could use the alternate artwork. Now I have upgraded some movies to 4K like Scarface because I had a better transfer. But especially recently I do get tired of everything being a re-release.
@@Talesfromtheshelf yeah man what I found myself doing is watching independent movies on Tubi and then if I really enjoy the movie and there's a Blu-ray release, I'll pick it up. The movie I recommend at least watching free is- here for blood.
The age of movie is my main factor when looking at newer formats, what can they do to this 90s movie in 4k that was already done in Blu-ray. The only upgrades I have ever done has been The Lord of the Rings extended because Peter Jackson himself put the effort in to improve, even then I got 4k cheap.
Did you not yet have a 4k TV in 2018 when you chose to buy blu only? I've purchased 2 large and expensive 4k TVs so part of my buying is that I have to justify investing in those by building up my 4k library and I do want many titles in the best quality, particularly if I don't own the film on blu at all. As 4k has become more prevalent there are a lot of titles being released I already have blus of that I don't need to upgrade for. But certain ones I do. I probably do own the majority of say, my top 200 films but my collection is much larger than that and I'd like to keep growing it, not infinitely but I want it bigger than it is now. How many titles do you own? I have upgraded a lot of blu to 4k but I don't feel inclined to upgrade every time, it depends on the film, but it's still definitely fun to me. I'm a huge horror/scifi collector and every year we are still getting new to blu or never on disc releases, things I've never owned in good quality, and those are great to see. I dont obsess over having the limited edition versions of everything, most Arrow and Second Sight I'm fine with a cheaper standard but with companies like Vinegar Syndrome who have such nice slips I like to get the full package when possible and I usually wait for their sales to pick those up. Your point about watching a new release once then shelving it for years...I think that's just the reality of collecting for most collectors, I'd say for most titles aren't watched yearly, especially the bigger the collection the less frequently titles are rewatched. I curate a lot and it may take me awhile to revisit certain titles but I like having them on hand when I do want to watch them.
I have just under 1000 movies in the collection. You make a lot of good points here. Especially the part about shelving titles and not watching them again for a while. That’s definitely true, but I’d say doubly so in the case of movies we buy thinking “maybe I’ll like it more this time around”
Oh ya, Im guilty of grabbing the blu ray, due to being impatient and wanting to see it, then getting the 4k when it releases like a month later. Learning to just wait
Only 24 hours in everyday. Can't watch 2 movies at the same time. Same as Can't play 2 games at the same time. My takes on it, only bay what you wants to watch and play. Equality over Quantity.
Wal-Mart still does a decent job of carrying new releases and Barnes & Noble too to a lesser extent. Do you have any mom and pop physical media stores in your city? When Best Buy discontinued selling movies I found a local chain of record stores that carries new BD and 4K. I love the experience of going there. Had I known about them earlier I would probably not have gone to Best Buy so much.
I think you have a legit criticism that the quality difference between BD and 4K isn't that noticeable, especially with players that can upscale to 4K. It's the sort of issue that may be a nail in the coffin of physical media. That and predatory marketing tactics like steelbook releases, lack of special features, and low production runs. It's all kind of frustrating.
I'm having fun collecting for the most part. My very first movie I collected was Halloween 1978 4k from Shout, and I proceeded to get the rest of them. So I started in 2021. I focused mostly on 4k's though, and maybe got a bluray if I thought it wouldn't get a 4k There is a few that I got that did get upgraded, not many though. Black Christmas is one of them. Elvira Mistress of the Dark, Happy Death Day 1 and 2, and hopefully Scream 4 will need to be upgraded but not a ton. My biggest annoyance is when I blind buy a movie hoping I'll like it, and I'm like well, never watching that again! So it's either sitting in my collection and taking up space, or just reminding me of a bad experience I had watching it. But on the flip side if I buy a movie I know I like, and I've seen it somewhat recently I won't want to put it in for a long time to watch it again. So that's my only dilemma I think. If it's a movie I know I like and I haven't seen it in a year or two I'm usually at my happiest buying it. But for the most part I'm enjoying it. But yes...sometimes it does feel like price gouging depending on the company.
YES! "Polishing a turd" is the phrase I was looking for to describe the treatments these movies are getting. I think Vinegar Syndrome is the biggest guilty party of this right now.. and people are swallowing it whole. You have a very similar opinion about this subject to me. Liked and Sub'd
Vinegar syndrome has a niche and they operate well there. If people genuinely enjoy that stuff, good for them. Personally for me, those movies don’t appeal to me so I don’t buy them unless it’s something like TCM2 or Amityville. It’s all a case by case basis. Thank you for watching and subbing I really appreciate it.
@@Talesfromtheshelf absolutely well said. And those are 2 of the very few movies I bought from them. The niche 4k market is oddly very boutique now and so many of them rarely benefit from a high grade scan. But to each his own. Anyway I look forward to your future vids.
I agree 100%. Physical media is important but the 4k format is not for me. I got heavy into DVDs in the 2000s and then heavy into Blu-Rays in the 2010s. After collecting this stuff for a while you get a little tired. I love movies but it's no longer about that. These companies feel the need to load up unnecessary packaging, posters and pieces of cardboard. I just want to own the movies, so I've begun to thrift for DVDs of movies I don't own or buy them used online for cheap. I agree that spending 40-50$ on one release just doesn't make sense anymore, and this is especially true if you already own it on DVD or Blu-Ray. Dead Silence would be a good used DVD purchase. I wouldn't spend more than 5$ on a movie like that.
I should mention, there are certainly 4k discs that I love and would consider worth the money. But they are a dime a dozen to me. More often than not blu ray is fine. But yeah, finding stuff out in the wild is where it’s at.
@@Talesfromtheshelf I have family that lives around 200 miles to the south of me. A couple times a year when I go to visit I make a pawn shop road trip out of it. I stop at around 20 shops along the way, it used to be more but I've done it enough to know which ones still buy physical media now. I'll usually come away with anywhere from 5-30 new titles per trip. It makes a 3 1/2 hour drive into a 12 hour drive but I take the whole week off so I'm not exactly in a hurry.
I started collecting again it's a cool hobby but not cheap especially the 4k movies my last purchase was the avengers box set of the 4 movies it was 80$ totally worth it though I buy dvd blu ray and 4k Like you said if you already have it on blu ray then you don't need the 4k version imo to
These Disney shows dropping at these crazy prices for one season is bullshit! If it was a complete series that would be different. I will not support it because they will continue this. And why is Disney not giving options of a regular Blu-ray or a DVD.
Honestly this is a good problem to have. If you feel that passionately about the releases I support buying them. My problem is nothing excites me really these days.
I dont know if anyone does this but depending on how old the movie is and the genre, I decide the format. 1970s 007? VHS ... Oldschool? Dvd... Transformers? Bluray or 4k i dont need HD to take away film grain, but thats just me.
bluray already in good quality and they are very cheap, buy a bundle even get you cheaper ! franchise / collections/ trilogy..dont mind the cover, just print the poster on ur own and put on the wall if you really want that movie kind of art badly
When a 4k version comes out then the blu ray version and/or dvd usually drops in price..just buy the dvd or blu ray…if you have a nice tv and nice disc player the picture will be good for a basic dvd…you don’t need to upgrade the disc everytime they put one out…that’s dumb
@ welcome man. Good stuff. I try to tell people a lot of the same things when it comes to needing to upgrade. Sometimes the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
I appreciate you saying that man. Makes me feel vindicated haha. Ain’t no shame in upgrading to a dope release, I just can’t be doing it for every single release
I'll play the devil's advocate here. I really get your points but, in the end, it comes down to each individual's decision on the matter. People collect different stuff for different reasons. I think there are plenty of releases for us to choose from, either on 4k or blu-ray. For me, it's a miracle that so many labels are releasing so many movies on physical media, in the age of streaming. Yeah, many labels do some lame marketing tricks but, nobody's putting a gun to your head. And there's another side of the coin. Physical media usually follows the advancements in audio/video technology. The many 4k releases make sense because now we can enjoy 4k panels and projectors. Home media has come a looong way since the old CRT and VHS. It's perfectly normal to also have upgrades in the physical media world. OK, not all releases are of very high quality and are worthy of an upgrade. Usually, for the modern movies, the differences between the 4k and the blu-ray are minute. But, for many older movies, if done right, the upgrade is phenomenal. Given that you have a 4k capable tv or projector. Because it makes no sense in watching a 4k material on an old, HD tv. It's like watching a blu-ray on a CRT tv.
It's still fun to me but some of the FOMO is starting to wear off. I don't have to buy some new movie that comes out when I have 100s and 100s on my backlog. I also don't like this trend of releasing super mega editions of movies and only that version. The new Neverending Story set looks great but that shouldn't be the only option. I'm not buying a $300 release no matter how much I love the movie.
Good points! Yes, we should be focusing on all the discs we already have tbh. Im not interested in buying stuff only for it to sit unwatched on my shelf.
Buy what you like without breaking the bank. It's not a competition. The worst you can do is try to justify your purchases. If you're not into collecting hardcore, maybe this hobby isn't for you?
There is no conflict for me, I simply do not buy as much stuff anymore lol. I might make 1 or 2 purchases a month MAX. “Buy what you like without breaking the bank. It’s not a competition” is like pretty much exactly what I say myself in the video.
I just bought the Arrow edition of to live and die in la got him down to £21.50, i know its good, but i refuse to pay £35-40 for the 4k when the blu-ray will not play, for some reason us labels block europeans from playing us blu-rays, i got Navy Seals on 4k recently for £20 not bad , i have the Hwling from scream factory for £30 4k is pretty good but the blu-ray will not play, Anti=Competitive or What? why not work with Europe instead of being selfish and using excuses like licencing to justify it, to cure it INCLUDE EUROPE. Do you notice some Arrow releases are Region B only, and some by Arrow UK are Region Free i wish they would make their minds up.
I have 1000s of movies on dvd format and I will only upgrade to a blu ray if it's a movie I absolutely love! I have 1000s of movies on blu ray and I WILL NOT UPGRADE to 4K, I think 4K is a waste of money! The quality of a 4K doesn't meet the dollar, I don't see the reasoning behind rebuying a movie I already own on blu ray for a little upgrade in picture quality on a 4K at triple it's value. I always say, it's the memory of the movie that lasts, at the end of the day you remember your favorite movie scenes or the actual story or a particular ending, for me I also enjoy the music in a lot of my favorite movies. Youre never gonna watch a movie and say OMG I can't believe how much detail there was in Hannibal's mask 😂 or WOW you can see the leaves on the road when Christine speeds down the street 😂. For the love of god, stop double dipping on 4Ks or slip covers, it makes collectors look like morons.
@Talesfromtheshelf it's the same for music, I have a huge CD collection. Now people are rebuying their CDs on vinyl for 5 times the value 😂, it's absurd! It's like you're going backwards. I left records for CDs in the 90s lol
lol these kinds of videos are always just so dumb. looking for validation, making excuses, not taking personal responsibility for how you got to where you are. stop giving into over-consumption. stop looking at buying movies/shows as a damn hobby. it doesn't need to become a part of your life, it doesn't need to become a hobby. buy movies, watch movies, and get on with your life.
Some are huge upgrades. I dont have many 4K but having a few favorites in incomparably beautiful quality is great. Dont own them out of "fear", but love or joy. Its healthy to like & enjoy nice things within ones means
Nah if it's in 4K and I can afford it Imma buy it. One reason I collect physical media is to get the highest fidelity I reasonably can on the media I consume.
Fomo it's a b&$@( I'm upgrading from dvd to bluray to be honest 4k feels like the ps5 pro like I don't se the diff that much (yes a I have a 4 k player 4k tv ) I just don't the diff that much
I've been collecting for over 30 years, and I'm still loving it.
You’ve got the right idea
U should be enjoying it & not trying end up being broke
I feel like you should only own what you want to own and what you’ll watch multiple times, you don’t need every new release and if anything you could get many other films you love for the same cost as a new 4K or cheaper.
Only invest in what you have and what’s comfortable for you.
I completely agree.
I love that rule! It’s always a great goal to have a collection that represents quality and not just quantity.
You're right, it's a good idea to focus on the new releases and not worry about upgrading your entire collection! It would drive you crazy.
I started laser disc / vhs & ced era
10 movies a year wow sucks to be you 😂😂😂
@@bachtuna lol really that’s good to know :) obviously reading comprehensions is not your strong point.
It really is. Makes the thrift store finds all the more fun!
Save up or find it cheaper
When I first started buying movies, they were on VHS. When DVD came along, I recognized that the upgrade in picture quality and the inclusion of special features was a massive upgrade. (Having never really known anything about LaserDisc, the directors' commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes, etc really blew me away.)
When Blu-Ray came along, again, I recognized that it was a big upgrade over DVD.
It’s definitely a case by case basis. Some 4ks are simply not worth it where others very much are. It requires research and being selective
Forgot to mention Dolby among the technical aspects as far as whether things are worthy up upgrading or not. Good point.
Yeah it's definitely tough to justify the cost of 4K sometimes
I also have no desire to have more than 1000 titles. I think I’m at like 980 or so. So I’m basically right where I wanna be. Thank you for watching !
Is it region free?
Instead, they moan when the standard 4K Blu-ray comes without a slipcover, which I cannot understand, and in the end you are ruining your own hobby if you are only interested in steelbooks, large boxes, and slipcovers 🤦♂️
This isn't meant to be hateful, it's just a personal recognition of mine.
Unfortunately it is not for you to decide who is and isn’t a “true film fan” :)
Well said
I try only purchasing movies that I can see myself watching multiple times, which is actually fairly easy to stick to.
It’s definitely going to be the last format. As long as someone is collecting within their means more power to them !
Well said my friend !!
I love your candor and humbleness. Subscribed!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I appreciate it!
I completely agree with you on this
This is the same shit that got me out of physical media in 2010 or so.
It really depends on the film! Some are definitely worth the upgrade.
There is definitely a level of dopamine associated with getting new releases that we all enjoy.
@Talesfromtheshelf That's become my strategy, and I've saved a lot of money.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m sure things are different overseas. I appreciate you watching
I wouldn’t say the era of a movie with good features is over. That’s still very much a thing.
My first time watching one of your videos, well done video. 💯 agree on everything you said! I’m getting tired of it as well! I don’t cave into 4K when I have the blu, and I wish other people wouldn’t either. Just subscribed
@@martinthomas3958 thank you so much! That means a lot
I’m glad you’ve found a collecting system that works for you!
I’m sorry to use a movie you enjoy as my example 😭 but yes the multiple slips is just nonsensical
The collecting boom is leveling out. More people are curating instead of collecting. Also based take on Dead Silence. 😎
Curation is the way to go. Thanks for watching my friend.
My philosophy is I only acquire it if I stumble upon it in a thrift store for under $3 (and it essentially matches my list of stuff I'm looking for)
This way you don't spend ridiculous amounts of cash, and each find has a memory attached to it
I’m with you on the “memory attached to it” aspect. That’s what makes it fun for me too.
Totally agree everything you said nails how I feel about collecting
I agree with everything you said in this video.
I've been collecting film on physical media for the last 35-40 years. I have thousands of films in my collection. Everything from LaserDisc and Betamax to DVD and Blu-ray. Maybe it's my old man eyes (45m) but most of the time, I can barely tell the difference between 4K and Blu-ray. I would much rather spend the premium $ on an amazing boutique release.
Well said
You are right on the money with this.
It's great to hear that you've been selective! I've learned to appreciate original box art too.
I think the last Blu Ray I bought was Captain America Civil War back when it came out.
Understandable. I agree on your first point, however, this was the same struggle from dvd to Blu-ray and in 10 years we’ll be talking about the next format very likely. Upgrade the titles that you love only.
Good point!! However I don’t see there being another format past 4k personally but I guess I could be wrong. Thank you for watching 🤝
Movies are art, a conversation, an experience -- physical Media needs to be profitable for those who make it but indeed seems, as you adeptly put it, anri consumer come pricing etc
Streaming since 2020 showed people they didn't need to go to the novies, and idiotic Covid responses forced people onto streaming as cinemas closed etc
Now streaming, in my opinion, has proven nothing more than a parasitic blight upon the Cinematic Arts.
It's a shame streaming has become the dominant force and that it's pushed physical media aside.
I get too overwhelmed at the new versions and releases (with music too) and when i get overwhelmed like that… the fun is over.
Yeah our hobbies definitely shouldn’t make us feel overwhelmed. I agree with that for sure.
That’s the key, I’m gonna have to try and narrow it down.
Love Dead silence, saw that joint in theaters.
@@Missionmedia2022 Yoo I’m glad you like it! Perhaps I should’ve chosen a different example 😭 my intention was not to shit on the movie, but rather to emphasize that sometimes glossy new releases can trick people into thinking they want something that they don’t really want.
@ nah I totally understood, it’s all good
The new shout factory release of Coraline on standard blu Ray is breathtaking in its visual quality. Just sayin
Note: I keep my old DVD version because it comes with the theatrical 3D version and 3D glasses
I have never been wound by 4K. I have been very , very disappointed in 4k
i'm a very basic collector. blu-rays are the perfect medium for me. i don't even own a 4k tv.
DVD can definitely get the job done
I never got into the 4K format, I get blue rays and the DVD if I can't get it on Blue Ray or if it isn't offered any other way, but 4K actually makes me dizzy watching it, so I'm all good with that. I only bought a 4K because I couldn't find the movie I like on Blue Ray and it came with that, I don't even own a 4K player.
Fair enough! Thanks for watching man
I’m right there with you. It’s just too expensive to keep buying stuff
It can wear you down after a while lol
If there’s a film comes out and I don’t get it..I’m not concerned. Something else will be released I’ll purchase. That’s my mindset..and with the prices going up, I’m cutting back a lot
Affordability is definitely another big concern
I've been in the same boat! Just trying to keep it from becoming too expensive and focusing on the titles I really love.
No, thanks. Lol.
Whatever helps ya sleep at night ig
It’s so many re releases and very few new titles being added to their catalog. It’s disappointing.
It happens to the best of us! Good on you for learning to be more patient
I don’t really have too many options within a reasonable driving distance sadly
Blind buying is definitely risky. Thanks for watching the video!
Thank you!
Really enjoyed the video!
Thank you !! I appreciate it.
@ No problem! Just subbed and shared your video as well!
I started lasers n cedar n vhs days
I bought one of those Star Wars 4k steelbooks fir $8 at the pawn shop
@@nordy259 good deal
Great video man!!
Dude! Thank you for watching. Big fan of your stuff as well 🤝
Unless it's an all time favorite movie I only upgrade if I find it used. I regularly pay $5 or less fir 4k movies at pawn shops
I've got to find myself a pawn shop like that, they're goldmines sometimes!
I started collecting again it's a cool hobby but not cheap especially the 4k movies my last purchase was the avengers box set of the 4 movies it was 80$ totally worth it though
I buy dvd blu ray and 4k
Like you said if you already have it on blu ray then you don't need the 4k version imo to
I just upgraded my dvd of Gene Wilder Willy Wonka to a standard blu ray, and I was very underwhelmed and disappointed. Is the 4k worth getting?
I don’t have that one but I’ve heard it’s a good transfer
i aways try and wait
These Disney shows dropping at these crazy prices for one season is bullshit! If it was a complete series that would be different. I will not support it because they will continue this. And why is Disney not giving options of a regular Blu-ray or a DVD.
I’m not gonna lie the last 6 months has been rough financially 😂. Movies I never thought would get a 4K release I now own.
Honestly this is a good problem to have. If you feel that passionately about the releases I support buying them. My problem is nothing excites me really these days.
In response to your thumbnail statement.
Yes, it is.
Agree to disagree. If it’s sustainable for you, that’s cool.
I dont know if anyone does this but depending on how old the movie is and the genre, I decide the format. 1970s 007? VHS ... Oldschool? Dvd... Transformers? Bluray or 4k i dont need HD to take away film grain, but thats just me.
Not a bad practice !
bluray already in good quality and they are very cheap, buy a bundle even get you cheaper ! franchise / collections/ trilogy..dont mind the cover, just print the poster on ur own and put on the wall if you really want that movie kind of art badly
I just recently got into Store video. Does Arrow release Blu-ray, then 4K later like universal?
@@jeremycarr3448 yes
I don't need 4K. Bluray is good enough and the price is right. TBF DVD is good enough if there's no Bluray option.
4k is like 3d
i collect vhs its all i care about with movies
When a 4k version comes out then the blu ray version and/or dvd usually drops in price..just buy the dvd or blu ray…if you have a nice tv and nice disc player the picture will be good for a basic dvd…you don’t need to upgrade the disc everytime they put one out…that’s dumb
It’s definitely dumb lol. I don’t upgrade everything either.
Agree 100%
You will own everything and like it!
😮😮
👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching man 🤝
@ welcome man.
Scream factory needs to bring new movies to the collection. How about madhouse 1974?
New movies is definitely a big problem as well. It’s all re releases
Buy what you like without breaking the bank. It's not a competition. The worst you can do is try to justify your purchases. If you're not into collecting hardcore, maybe this hobby isn't for you?
@@luisdomenech539 are you suggesting that you can only collect hardcore or not at all?
@@Talesfromtheshelf It sounds like you're conflicted every time you spend money on physical media. If it's that conflicting, it's not worth it.
There is no conflict for me, I simply do not buy as much stuff anymore lol. I might make 1 or 2 purchases a month MAX. “Buy what you like without breaking the bank. It’s not a competition” is like pretty much exactly what I say myself in the video.
Can I buy your collection if your out
@@stevenlapierre1742 when did I say I was out ? Lol
I agree, Dead Silence is very meh
I hear you, a lot of people are just chasing the latest and greatest, but I get the feeling it can be a little much sometimes.
Thanks for watching homie
Them do something else I’m happy with my Blu Ray
@@jaydoubleu3419 cool!

Don’t give into FOMO people the 4k is not worth your dollar these companies don’t need anymore of your money
Preach it
Some are huge upgrades. I dont have many 4K but having a few favorites in incomparably beautiful quality is great. Dont own them out of "fear", but love or joy. Its healthy to like & enjoy nice things within ones means
100%. It’s All about staying within your means and being selective. Not everything is worth your dollar.
Nah if it's in 4K and I can afford it Imma buy it. One reason I collect physical media is to get the highest fidelity I reasonably can on the media I consume.
I appreciate your honesty it's helpful 2 me. I just stared buying physical media again and doing the homework. 🤩
Fomo it's a b&$@( I'm upgrading from dvd to bluray to be honest 4k feels like the ps5 pro like I don't se the diff that much (yes a I have a 4 k player 4k tv ) I just don't the diff that much
