    Pretty crazy that tuning for these cars was unlocked just 5 months ago. We’re still in the early days and already knocking on 500hp with stock turbo, internals, heads, and fuel system. Once the STI trans swap is normalized and we get into built motor, big turbo, full e85 builds, this generation is going to be the bananas. I’ve heard some of the big names in Evo X tuning have picked up VB development cars now, so the future is looking bright!

      isnt this the same boxer engine they put in the brz/gr86? if so, im curious to see how theyll fair under heavy boost lol

    • @blueridge8992
      @blueridge8992 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wyattllc they share the same general design (displacement, bore and stroke) but otherwise they don’t share any components. They have different pistons, rods, crank, heads, fueling system, intake manifold, etc. The FA24D in the GR86/BRZ2 has a 12.5:1 compression ratio and smaller injectors in the DI side so it’s definitely not set up to handle high boost at all from the factory. Right now HKS offers a small supercharger kit that brings it up to 292hp at the crank, so like 40 additional horsepower at the wheels. That’s a pretty small bump for the $5000 that kit costs. Seems like pistons, rods, and fuel system upgrades are definitely going to be necessary to get up above 300-350whp.

      I both a 22 WRX and still own previous gen STI, hoping from one to another I can say a lot of people talking about power gains but something that the STI is VERY far ahead is it comes with LSD front and LSD rear, whereas the WRX comes with no LSD at all. All that is very noticeable in the corners, that's why the STI is my track car. But what I will say is the WRX is MUCH more comfortable and quiet and that's why it's my daily.

    Thanks for this ... well laid out. IMO on a starter budget get a CAI first and tune for it. I went with Anthony (Dmann) for his OTS and then finally went the E-tune (protune) map from him ... wow he had me run a few data logs and 3 tunes and then he nails it. Having a great tuner is worth more than any part that might require one.

    This is a great engine the only issues is Subaru put that crappy split case 5 speed WRX transmission they added a gear to and called it a 6 speed if I was you I would have told everyone at the 400-450 WHP TRQ you may want to think of doing the STI drivetrain swap Becuase I don’t care how strong of a aftermarket clutch you have the split case transmission is going to blow I have a VA wrx making over 400whp and doing the STI drivetrain swap was the best mod I ever did anyway love these FA24s just wish subaru would have given us the STI drivetrain on these cars

      @@nikkoteen1314 Never do any mods on a Subaru that affect air or fuel without doing a dyno tune. Crazy if they claim that on their site.. they should know better than that. It's common knowledge Subaru's are _very_ fragile when doing mods without a tune. They may even be able to be sued from such a claim, if someone blows their engine from it, which is very possible. Intakes are worthless without an aftermarket turbo, anyway. They make cool sounds but that's it, the factory intake is more than enough on the stock turbo. Aftermarket turbos are a different story. That being said, if you have a tuner in your area with a dyno, definitely get a downpipe and dyno tune. It's worth every penny, it's so much more fun to drive afterwards. EDIT: I see why they say it's safe, now. It's the same diameter as the factory tube. That being the case, even with a tune it probably wouldn't help performance, at all.. that's just a noise maker.

    • @clifford_2zero7
      @clifford_2zero7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you have a tune for ethanol only (non flex) then you absolutely NEED to use that exact blend. Whether it be e30. E60 e85 etc.
      If you have a flex tune it doesn't matter.
      Just like if you have a 93 tune, you gotta use 93 gasoline.
      93 gasoline has about 10% ethanol in it as is and those values could be a bit higher but not a lot.
      Ethanol requires more fuel to be dumped into the engine so if you did straight 93 on a specific e85 tune you would be silly rich and knock like hell from the much lower octane. Ethanol also has a cooling effect that your tuner would of taken advantage of in the tune. Take that out of the equation also and your engine is in very risky territory.
      Subaru engines are very picky about the modifications and tunes they get. Do a ton of research prior to modify your wrx please. This is why the platform gets such a bad rep. Im not saying you're the cause just saying don't be a statistic 🙌

    Ok so first of all tuning doesn’t blow your motor
    It helps significantly improve the engines reliability
    If you add the correct mods
    Don’t add big turbos but not upgrade your boost controller, or add a down pipe and header but not add an air oil separator.
    Don’t be obsessed with a power number.
    Definitely add an oil cooler definitely add an upgraded oil pump , oil pan and oil pick up
    Increase your oil capacity and keep it cool 😎
    I have a 16 wrx I bought with 5 miles on it. Had it tuned to a stage 2 setup with 5k miles
    I now have e85 sensor and tuned making 387 whp on a stock block with 149,000 miles and my car is still absolutely fun to drive.
    When modding your car the rules for dealer recommendations for maintenance go out the window because you increase the load and friction on mechanical parts. So instead of oil changes every 3k
    Do it every 2k

I am so glad I switched over to the Evo platform a long time ago. Seems like there will be room for more development for these cars. Honestly, the same old dance for most of these 4 cylinders. My man, I'm in the same position and just leased a new 2023 wrx premium a few days ago. They told me not to mess with the ECU and just have a couple of bolt ons would be okay. So I decided the Perrin CAI and AeroFlow Catback exhaust. Also, down the line, you can obviously decide if you would like to stay with the car or not but I probably will lol The car is fun to drive and, more importantly, wanted something reliable and doesn't void the lease warranty agreement.

      @@ColFighter018 Nice ! Good for you ! The dealer told you not to mess with the ECU or someone else ? So your gonna buy it after the lease term, then i guess there’s no further issue to have. Just wondering with your add ons such as air intake , don’t you need a tune after that ? I mean since you say they don’t want you to touch the ecu if you ever get a problem from having intake and such without tune will they be more inclined to keep the warranty because you didn’t tune or the opposite since you didn’t tune after add ons . Haha so many questions in this regard anyway hope it stays reliable and enjoyable !!!

      The only difference that I'm certain of is the transmission. You should be able to use all the same mods for the "Subaru Performance Transmission" aka CVT. I'd be more worried and interested in seeing how much power the thing holds. I can see a future of the CVT holding really high power numbers only if built correctly. We used to say that automatics couldn't hold the power and now look at some of the fastest cars on the track.
      Anyways, you shouldn't have any issue in modifying with these parts, should be all the same.
