Yes he had an affair. At that time it was believed among royal circles that only a "certain class and type of girl" would be acceptable to the British public and the newspapers. The royals rely on reputation and relevancy for their position in life so they had to comply with the people's expectations. This is why Charles could not marry Camilla back in the '70's. She was no longer a virgin and the tabloids would have made royal hay out of that story which would have tarnished the marriage and the royal family. For her part, Diana was far too young to marry into the institution and too much was expected of her by too many. She became difficult when they discovered that they had absolutely nothing in common and no basis on which to build. Screaming matches and accusations were apparently the order of the day. Diana reportedly became so difficult that friends stepped in and Camilla was urged to reestablish the friendship that had before the wedding been the accepted norm. All his other girlfriends knew about Camilla and knew marriage to him would never be easy. As Diana was having an affair too, it was assumed the status quo would simply remain unchanged. As we all know now there are 2 sides to a story so cut everyone some slack.

Whoopi really thought everyone was going to agree with her and her face as the segment continues has me on the floor 🤣 With that being said Whoopi you the only actress on the panel not everyone is going to know that
No the crown should not require disclaimers, why because the Tudors did not require disclaimers. The kings speech did not require disclaimers, the young Victoria, Victoria the series, the white queen, the darkest hour, The queen (with Helen Mirren), the audience (Broadway play again with Helen Mirren), the Iron Lady; Literally every historical fiction ever made has not required a disclaimer. Surely the UK government can find a better use of taxpayer time and money.
#Note- Many courtiers & butlers who worked in Buckingham, Kensington palaces at the time contributed their eyw witness accounts to Netflix production. Even GMB- Pier Morgan, one of the closest friend of royal family agreed most of what's depicted was true. He recalled his one hour long conversation with Diana about her struggles with Bulimia. She told him when she decided to seek professional help.
Of ALL the seasons of The Crown, the Commonwealth make noise about the current season and it's not surprising why because the key characters are not only still alive but the most controversial. This season definitely felt like Diana's story (which is ALL based on fact from her own words from interviews, etc), especially the last 4 episodes.
In my opinion, the main differences with season 4 are: 1) seasons 1-3 were a bit more historically accurate, while still dramatizing some things, so there is a bigger contrast in season 4 which seems to fictionalize more than the previous years; and 2) the events in season 4 are more recent, most of the people are still living, and the public remembers these people better and are more concerned about them. It's too simple to say 'this is a work of fiction' and that everyone should know better, because parts are historically accurate and it can be difficult to know what truly happened and how, and what is made up -- unless you want to research the events of each episode.
It's a drama based on fact. This is not the first installment and I don't think Netflix should do anything. Problem is they are facts that they cannot deal with and sweep under the rug.
Everyone who’s lived through the scandals know how much of it is real. I wasn’t born during the scandals but I remember the aftermath. I think The Crown has captured the story as much as they could.
Whatever, they’re just prideful and embarrassed. Saving face! Words may have changed, but It’s in the ballpark... every major event they’ve depicted seems to be right on point.
"There are two sorts of truth. There's historical truth and then there's the larger truth about the past," Robert Lacey- historical consultant. “The Crown” creator Peter Morgan, said “you sometimes have to forsake accuracy, but you must never forsake truth.”
I have to admit, I began watching with the notion that this was relatively historically accurate, minus some of the private dialogue. I hadn't realized that they were doing the show as more of an historical fiction piece. I woulda still watched it either way, but I woulda watched it through a different lens if I had known better.
Anything that is published in print or in video should have disclaimers about the facts and histories that are being presented. Just the act of watching and listening embeds that in the brain of all humans, and the weight of words and visuals will distort your sense of reality. Look at the basics of publishing when it was just books, two basic realizations, fact or fiction. When Americans were more responsible about what television was bringing into your households, you would see "this movie, or show, is based on real events, but names have been changed to protect the innocent". What is being said about directors using movies to introduce news and history Washington suppresses, is true, but it's a good thing. I believe that oily Bush bunch assassinated the Kennedys and did 9/11. The Crown doesn't show the greenhouse in the palace where poppies grow to make opium. The English call it the Victorian era. Scots call it the opium era.
Its a drama, both Charles and Diana were informed victims in the marriage! We were always aware that the marriage was basically arranged. The ones I feel sorry for are William and Harry, and I'm happy that Harry has left it all... and I'm happy that William will move the Royal image in a new direction x
I really don't know why people are so confused. It's not a documentary. It's drama. Based on real events. They said that. Period! It's not their fault that apparently most people are stupid and don't know what that means. And if you're sitting there dissecting every little thing, you're missing the whole point of everything. Its a DRAMA. Everyone knows that Charles and Diana got divorced and he was having a relationship with Camilla. But no one knows all the conversations and stuff that they were having that's the DRAMA and creative piece of it all. We don't have to know exactly everything that was or wasn't said. Sit back enjoy the show and relax. Also it's really funny to me how everyone gets their panties in a bunch about the Charles and Camilla and Diana crap but no one seems to bat an eye about the fact that Prince Philip had all these alleged affairs (he is still alive by the way) And the royal family institutionalized members of their own family because they were mentally ill and pretended they were dead. Everyone kind of overlooks that!!! But by all means let's Get upset about what Charles and Diana may or may have not said to each other.... People need to get a life.
It's the job of entertainment, to make us get in groups and discuss the details. I enjoy discussions about Shows as much as watching the Shows themselves.
I love The Crown but I do believe that it's weird to put real life people on a show, and have writers tell their stories without mentioning that you took some artistic liberties. Why not put on a disclaimer? Sounds reasonable and it doesn't hurt the show. Obviously some people are taking everything on it as fact.
I think they made Charles look better than I've ever though of him. I still think he's a cad, but at least we have an idea how he turned out that way....
The crown is classified as drama, which means made up. The are some events that are true, which people who are interested can look up. I British so l was alive during the time of Diana. And yes, Charles had an affair. There is a tape of Charles and Camila speaking inappropriate when Charles was still made. The royal was happy about seasons 1-3.
I think the issue with things like this is that while the events that occur may be based on actual fact, the way you tell them can colour people's perception in a way that may not necessarily line up with who these people really are, or their motivations for doing what they did.
@@sillyskeleton my problem is the royal family never has a problem with the other seasons, because it put the royal family in a “good” light. But season 4 there a lot of explain and complaining, which the royal family keep saying they never do. The fact was Diana was used and abused. I will explain, Diana was used to provide heir and spare. That was it. The problem is Diana felling love and overshadow Charles. Charles never love Diana as he was in love with someone else. He saw what he was doing with Diana, as his duty to provide heir and spare. In their engagement the famous words “whatever love means”
Part of watching the show is Googling what actually happened. Everyone has been doing it since season 1, there are always a ton of news stories that come up when new seasons come up. The royal family was actually happy with it till this season which is hilarious because when you Google it, they were worse in real life than in the show. At least in the show you feel some sympathy for Charles and some annoyance at Diana. Then you look them up and Charles makes you sick and you feel so sad for Diana.
Whoopi! I love your English accent!☺ I haven't seen this series. I don't know much about the real life story, but there was drama, drama, drama, as is expected from any high profile and high standing individuals. When I was a kid, there was a lot of tabloid news articles about scandals. So, considering the rumors and speculation surrounding everything, an extra disclaimer might be a good idea.
Until Netflix let us hear ''Charles in his own words'', I take it as a very one-sided story. The truth may be somewhere in between. I am with Joy here, a Disclaimer would help. They just make up too much
It's not so much that people think it's a documentary, it's that people will assume that because it's such a high profile, prestigious, award winning etc etc drama, that it must be truthful in every way, it must be responsible. But it's really not. And of course Netflix are never going to put a disclaimer on it, the whole show is pitched as being the true story. Gotta keep those subscriptions coming in.
I think that they don’t want to accept that because this season is the one that the majority of viewers were alive during the events so it reignites the viewer's feelings and that's what the crown is trying to avoid
Peter Morgan and The Crown team have always been clear that the “events” are true but what exactly went down behind the scenes inside the palace walls is speculative, so to speak. Disclaimer not necessary. It’s not a documentary it’s a drama tv show scripted.
However, most people don't know what "words" mean (drama) (fiction) (documentary) or based on true events/facts. It is sad that, in my opinion that education isn't what it used to be. I am 51, I remember it as it happened. And of course, people should understand that we don't know what was said in private... have a good day/evening
It would not harm Netflix to put a disclaimer before every episode. Shows in South Korea and other places do it regularly; it is the only responsible thing to do.
btw Camila great great grandmother was the mistress of king Henry VII and Charles and Camila do have ancestors in common so they are both related to each other and I don't mean by marriage
The Queen and Prince Philip, her husband, are second cousins. Most of the British aristocracy are related to each other somewhere down the line. And half of Europe’s monarchy’s can trace their ancestry directly back to Queen Victoria. So the fact that Charles and Camila have a medieval ancestor in common is hardly news worthy.

No more confusion. Let people know, so they don’t keep saying, “I DON’T KNOW”. 💸🪐
Problem is a lot of it is true. So when you check, a lot of it happened and only minor details are off. It wasn't a good time for them.
No, I don’t think there needs to be a disclaimer. Why should the British royal family get special treatment? It's 2020.
Diana did audio tapes for her book....... a lot happen apart from conversations. Come over here & we lived through both Charles & Diana going on tv giving their account of their marriage + their affairs. God I know too much about these people who live off their poor😫
Why didn't they ask for a disclaimer for the other seasons
Honestly, whenever I see a disclaimer I think that the movie/series is hitting too close to home and this is probably true with the Crown as well.
He had to marry a virgin. IM British and still remember the hatred for Camilla. Netflix got it right, do I hate Camilla now, no she paid that price.
Whoopi really thought everyone was going to agree with her and her face as the segment continues has me on the floor 🤣 With that being said Whoopi you the only actress on the panel not everyone is going to know that
DIANA IN HER OWN WORDS!! Drop mic!🎤
#Note-
Many courtiers & butlers who worked in Buckingham, Kensington palaces at the time contributed their eyw witness accounts to Netflix production. Even GMB- Pier Morgan, one of the closest friend of royal family agreed most of what's depicted was true. He recalled his one hour long conversation with Diana about her struggles with Bulimia. She told him when she decided to seek professional help.
No they dont need a disclaimer. Its ridiculous.
The shade in Sara -
“Ookay Whoopi” -
-sips tea, tilts head- lol love her !!
I love Sunny’s big hair today!
People complain about everything. Now we have to explain shows.... OMG. 🙄
Sarah's joke and then Sunny trying to hold it together at 1:17 is my favorite thing today.
Everyone who’s lived through the scandals know how much of it is real. I wasn’t born during the scandals but I remember the aftermath. I think The Crown has captured the story as much as they could.
Thanks, Sunny!!!
Whatever, they’re just prideful and embarrassed. Saving face! Words may have changed, but It’s in the ballpark... every major event they’ve depicted seems to be right on point.
We knew since 1992 in the UK that Charles and Diana were in big trouble
"There are two sorts of truth. There's historical truth and then there's the larger truth about the past," Robert Lacey- historical consultant. “The Crown” creator Peter Morgan, said “you sometimes have to forsake accuracy, but you must never forsake truth.”
What's so hard to understand, Charles wanted Camilla as his mistress and Diana wasn't willing to go with it.
Sunny's head tilt 🤣🤣🤣
I have to admit, I began watching with the notion that this was relatively historically accurate, minus some of the private dialogue. I hadn't realized that they were doing the show as more of an historical fiction piece. I woulda still watched it either way, but I woulda watched it through a different lens if I had known better.
Please Google each episode as you watch.
@@afrikanheritage99 Well, yeah, now that I know about this, sure. But tell that to Past Me during seasons 1-3.
Season 5 is Pandora’s box cracked wide open
I mean,he cheated all the time they were together,(diana and charles)they didn't even try to hide it(charles and camilla) back in the day.
oh please. the queen was silent for 3 seasons. charles and camilla wanna make noise because they did a story on them? what babies
There are so many people who weren't around when this happened, so I think they should add a disclaimer
It's sad that as Sarah says "it has to be spelled out".
And it is tape that Charles said to Camilla he wanted to be a ‘tampax’ inside her and that is not Fiction it is literally on tape.
No.
And I'm old enough to remember.
Anything that is published in print or in video should have disclaimers about the facts and histories that
are being presented. Just the act of watching and listening embeds that in the brain of all humans,
and the weight of words and visuals will distort your sense of reality. Look at the basics of publishing when
it was just books, two basic realizations, fact or fiction.
When Americans were more responsible about what television was bringing into your households, you would
see "this movie, or show, is based on real events, but names have been changed to protect the innocent".
What is being said about directors using movies to introduce news and history Washington suppresses,
is true, but it's a good thing. I believe that oily Bush bunch assassinated the Kennedys and did 9/11.
The Crown doesn't show the greenhouse in the palace where poppies grow to make opium.
The English call it the Victorian era. Scots call it the opium era.
What is Whoopie on as I need that 😆People even deny facts thrown in their face, she should know being a Murican.
War of the Worlds freaked people out back in the day. Give me a break, people should know better. They’re actors not real people.
The royal family should just the thankful Netflix didn’t highlight the fact they had a hand in the death of Diana
No Joy, the PM meets with the Queen every week so of course she gives her opinions, she is not supposed to get political in public though.
I think they made Charles look better than I've ever though of him. I still think he's a cad, but at least we have an idea how he turned out that way....
I’m sure it’s not that far off! But, we thought it was bad! I watched & was speechless. No wonder “Red” just left! 😮
He also used Princess Diana
@@sillyskeleton my problem is the royal family never has a problem with the other seasons, because it put the royal family in a “good” light. But season 4 there a lot of explain and complaining, which the royal family keep saying they never do. The fact was Diana was used and abused. I will explain, Diana was used to provide heir and spare. That was it. The problem is Diana felling love and overshadow Charles. Charles never love Diana as he was in love with someone else. He saw what he was doing with Diana, as his duty to provide heir and spare. In their engagement the famous words “whatever love means”
whoopi - we don’t know what happened up in there 😂😂😂😂
Part of watching the show is Googling what actually happened.
Yes. They have to.. some people are quick to react.
When Whoopi pulls out the Queen accent 🤣🤣🤣
Until Netflix let us hear ''Charles in his own words'', I take it as a very one-sided story. The truth may be somewhere in between. I am with Joy here, a Disclaimer would help. They just make up too much
It's not so much that people think it's a documentary, it's that people will assume that because it's such a high profile, prestigious, award winning etc etc drama, that it must be truthful in every way, it must be responsible. But it's really not. And of course Netflix are never going to put a disclaimer on it, the whole show is pitched as being the true story. Gotta keep those subscriptions coming in.
I used to love Sarah when she was on the show before she left. Now since she’s back I don’t see the charm anymore.
I thought it was based on true events...
I think that they don’t want to accept that because this season is the one that the majority of viewers were alive during the events so it reignites the viewer's feelings and that's what the crown is trying to avoid
‘Based on’ doesn’t mean true, it means partly true but doesn’t specify what part
Diana deserve better! I don’t care that Charles and his...... getting hate! I feel karma is collecting now.
Headishome Good point. And likewise!
Folks still believe episodes of _Fargo_ are dramatizations of real life, so...
