Amazing from start to end. Watching both of them match wits was incredible. Thank you Dave and Barbara for showing this one again! Loved every minute of it.
My thought exactly! I don't recall a guest that could match if not beat Letterman with his sarcastic humour. I'm sure it's why the interview went longer then most.
Thank you. I love watching Hugh Grant but I wish they'd put a time stamp in the description box so that we don't have to sit through almost 15 minutes of video footage to get to the accent part...x
No, Hugh Grant is not dead, but there was a New York Times article in 1930 about a man named Hugh Grant who died at the age of 81. The article also mentioned that he built large sections of several railroads in Canada.
I don’t know if asking celebrities extremely personal questions about their appearance/weight/exercise/diet/wardrobe/etc. in an interview is appropriate, but I would like to point out to anyone who thinks only female celebrities get those questions it absolutely isn’t the case. There are a handful of times I felt the interviewers asking these questions were sexist. And if the interviewer was asking a female scientist who discovered a new element would probably feel sexist, but celebrities are performers, and the condition and appearance of their body often literally is 50% or more of their job both from an appearance perspective and also from a place of them being able to perform certain stunts if and when that is required. These questions still felt to me like they went too far and crossed a line on that topic, but it was interesting information, and the star kind of went first in terms of leading the conversation that direction, so I’m not sure what I think is appropriate. I only know that I regularly hear male celebrities get asked these questions, so it’s for sure not a sexism thing.
Nice hosting Mr. Letterman! It's always a pleasure watching you work despite the occasional joke slump, ----which we do all have, all undergo, that's natural, nothing to worry about. Which ones? Well...but you are a master of so-called small talk as well as bigger subjects, all very important. But, I am not so much of an 'Anglophobe' (matter of fact I am an 'Anglophile' - nice big words, huh?) that I expect this articulate English gentleman with his famous and fully charming native accent to have to try to meet the American standard of accents established by Gosh George Lindsay, or Jim Nabors or even well Don Rickles. He couldn't do it. That's like forcing Harry Belafonte to sing Abba in Swedish, or something.
@@matureyoungman His demeanor is narcissistic and his sense of humor is basic. It gets extra painful when an actually funny person goes on his show and he shoots down any riff, so as to not be outshined. That, and of course the incessant political grandstanding.
Wow! I can't believe that Hugh Grant was able to get back on track after being in trouble in the 90s. Dave should have been more prepared for his Late Show visit.
Not unheared of at all. Most of the young men i knew in my 20s who were around that height were around that weight, sometimes a bit less. And they all looked healthy and normal.
In my opinion, this was not a very respectful interview for such great actor. The questions are too low. Lost opportunity to know more about what he’s doing.
He had a clearly supportive woman, but apparently it isn't enough for them (unfortunately)... Good thing he put his life together and became this grumpy old man we all turned into.

Effortlessly charming as always.
He is. And Hugh's quite nice, too.

What a delightful interview! Letterman has finally found his match.

The charm is off the charts.
Hugh made Dave's job easy. Just hilarious. And I'm realising this was over 20 years ago and I feel so flipping old
He's a great value interviewee.
He’s very funny! I actually lol’d several times.
I knew he’s so charming ..but I didn’t know he’s actually funny!!!
Smuggling Part I laughed so hard 😂😂😂😂
He is absolutely charming ❤

Great interview with Hugh Grant and Dave.👍
David trued to win in this match but Hugh was so, so funny and keep going 🎉🎉🎉 and He won 🤣 fair and square 😂😂, he is amazing 😍!
Love Hugh.
The charm is at the front and the back and both sides and there is Hugh in the middle.Impeccable.
He was actually pecked once.
@@TonyEnglandUK Lucky Hugh
Always charming and adorable.
Hugh Grant is honestly hilarious, and quick witted, and switches into accents.... he could easily do stand up.
His "American" accent came off as sounding like a poor Jimmy Stewart impression. 😄
Dave had a way with the interviews. Used to love watching Letterman.
Hugh is soo attractive!
So?
So?
Honestly, Hugh Grant is the only reason to view "Heretic" because he carried the film.
But he IS good at accents! He did Australian and ... German, or some slavic one, in there too! I never realized he could do accents.
Accent attempt 14:10

There's quite a lot of Hugh Grants who are dead. Most of them, in fact.
@TonyEnglandUK you think?
@@lexkanyima2195 Why yes, yes I do.

@11:44 Talk Magazine September 1999, photographer David LaChapelle. However, I can't find the image anywhere.
It was a great movie. Hard to think of another one coming out?
Hugh Grant and Sade.I would have loved to be an audience member for the taping of that show.
A friend of mine told he that they used to be incredibly long. Not sure if it’s true, but he did get in and said it was great.
Love him
He's a really good actor!
What strange questions Letterman asks.
He is perfect!
God I forgot how bad Letterman was about cutting people off while they’re talking
Not one Letterman's best interviews, glad Hugh had quick repartees
It's very clear that he just straight up played himself in About a Boy-- at least, this interview version of himself.
British wit wins every time.

I, for one, was impressed by Mr. Grant's attempt at an American accent. It was brief and only half-hearted, but sounded convincing to me.

Thanks!
As I expected, that was awful.
It fits so well
@GeorgeKing-ms1vy it's not that bad, he didn't have a dialect coach to speak fluently. So he didn't have more time.

according to google... as of 11/20/24 830 am west coast time.. he is still alive.

How many years back? From 2001!
There must not be a god or he would not have made someone that beautiful and funny! He would have spread those qualities more fairly .
