  • Today the 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite is in a comparison against top competitors, the 2019 Toyota Sienna XLE, Chrysler Pacifica Touring L and Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. All four minivans offer compelling features for the modern family, but only one can go home with the victory. Will it be the Odyssey--which was redesigned in 2017? The Pacfica, which is still trying to catch the aging Grand Caravan in sales? These are the best vehicles for families--watch on to find out.

My red 2010 Chrysler t&c Touring might be old school, but it has served us well. With things like uconnect and heated leather, it offers a fair experience and It does as it states without complication. Speaking of that, working on it is comparably easier. I did the 100k maintenance myself and in under an hour. The only item I couldn't do was a tranny flush. I love the looks of the Pacifica, but being a Fiat design, I would be probably better off sticking with maybe the R/T version of the Grand Caravan if I was to one day upgrade. But honestly I see no point nearly 9 years later.

With all due respect to the reviews, the Grand Caravan has dated looks and equipment. I still bought a 2018 model with 72 miles on the odometer. Why? Because it costs half the price of an Odyssey or Sienna and still moves people, camping gear, tools and even appliances with ease. I don’t need all the hi tech B.S. to do that.

@@roderickconstantino5354 Look online..at the Caravan sale ads..sort by miles..highest to lowest..you will see many Caravans and Town and Country's with over 400,000 miles..the 3.8 V-6 engine Dodge used in 80% of these vans was bullet-proof..the truth is in the miles..how many Sienna's do you see with 400K miles still on the road? Maybe a few but you see a TON of Dodge minivans with 200K + miles all the time..while Dodge is not the most reliable name around, they did it right with the 1996-2018 minivans

Bought an Odyssey 3 months ago. Test drove all 4 of these. Dodge old styling felt cheap and had little squeaks and rattles while driving don't want to hear all that and the stow and go is useless with 3 toddlers and a newborn in the van. Toyota didnt get the MPGs i wanted but a nice big minivan. Chrysler is nice all around and great MPGs but not as reliable as the Honda or Toyota so that one was out too. my wife loves the Odyssey she drive its every day its easy to get the kids in and out with the middle row slide track system it has no jumping over set and stuff. At the end of the day you should be happy with what you bought and never second guess that will just leave you wanting something new sooner then later and that doesnt help you save money however you are looking to save

The dodge was thousands less then the Honda and Toyota for about the same equipment. No it does not have all the modern equipment because it is an old design, but I think it’s better looking then the other cans.

Purchased a Fully Loaded Dodge Grand Caravan GT (2017) For 18 grand a year old. Doesn't have the all the bells and whistles as the others, but it's reliable and costs a heck of a lot less than it's competitors. Stow and go is great for moving big items. Price I think has a lot to do with why it's still selling. I'm very happy with mine.

My grand caravan is awesome. For the price you can’t beat it with the stowaway seat system making work like a little truck for us! Haven’t met a person who owns one and doesn’t love it. Also, The Toyota is really nice, just cost a great deal more. We get near 30 all the time in trips going 70! So much function and use to the dodge is the best. So far I only had a untimely bad alternator issue at 110k... and the engine on the dodge needs a new timing belt every 60k added for a unseen cost... not sure about the others? We purchased the dodge to sale it but fell in love with the ride, easy of use and storage along with the ability to fold all seats into the floor and have a truck like use... as we are always hauling bikes and pets n stuff...

Honda is recalling roughly 107,000 of its 2018-2019 Odyssey minivans due to an issue with the power sliding door latches, the carmaker announced on Tuesday. This time, the reason for the recall isn't the faulty Takata airbags, which are causing widespread car recalls for many automakers, including Honda.
    Toyo has plenty as well

I have towed 6x12' Uhauls around the country with it. It still runs great and rides smoothly. I am not buying your (Consumer Reports) reliability rating or ease of use downgrade. At $6,000 less expensive than any of these (around 18%), it's the best deal, and that's why after 13 years of production of the current version it's still the best selling minivan in the U.S. as well as Canada.

I have a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan Crew Plus. Less advanced technology for sure, seeing as how it's the oldest van design of the bunch. This is my 2nd Grand Caravan. I found them both reliable, comfortable, and extraordinarily versatile. Need an 8 ft long flat open cargo space that's 4 ft wide, you have it. Once you're done with whatever you're transporting, pop up both rows of seats out of the floor (don't forget about the stow and go seating) and you have a room for 7 in comfortable leather seats where even the 3rd row have reclining seats, and the 2nd row reclining captains chairs with arm rests can each slide back and forth. Buying that van didn't mean breaking the bank either. My Crew Plus came with leather, sat nav, dvd player, tri zone a/c, heated seats, 10 way power adjustable heated drivers seat, 8 way heated power passenger's seat, two big glove boxes, not one, a full length overhead console with lots of storage, 6 adjustable map lights, and ambience lighting. For 3rd row passengers that need their 3rd row windows open because they just need some fresh air, I can flick a switch and the powered rear quarter windows will open. You can't do that in a Pacifica. There's a reason they sell better than the Pacifica and likely better than the other vans in this review. The value proposition is unassailable. I would have had to spend ~15K extra to get the equivalent trim level in a Pacifica. They want to drive customers to the new van with the higher profit margins, but they can't ignore the 160,000 units per year sales figures for the Dodge.

My Dodge Grand Caravan was 25 years old when I sold it for $950 and moved into an Odyssey. This van has what I would call a major design flaw that nobody talks about because apparently, very few owners load their vans with sheetrock or plywood. Sure, all of the vans have 4' x8' loading areas but the Odyssey has a couple of hooks that catch the third seat when it's in the upright position. These hooks interfere with the loading of full sheets. You can maybe get 2 or 3 in before the hooks begin to interfere and make it impossible to load any more without them sitting on top of the hooks instead of flat on the previous sheet. What a disappointment Honda.

@@CyberHawk2024 When Chrysler came out with the extended version of their minivan, it wasn't a coincidence that the load floor wound up being 4" X 8". They chose that dimension because it's the same dimension as plywood. I need the vehicle to do both. Unlike a truck, a Chrysler minivan will haul sheetrock and keep it dry in the rain (a truck with the standard 6-1/2' bed will work but you have to fold down the tailgate). Unlike a truck, it will carry 7 people comfortably (including rear AC and heat). Unlike a 2WD truck, a Chrysler minivan will provide much better traction in the snow. Unlike a truck, a Chrysler minivan will provide reasonable fuel economy. Unlike a truck, a Chrysler minivan will take up a lot less space in my garage. Unlike a truck, a Chrysler minivan will be easier to park. Unlike a truck, a Chrysler minivan WON'T brake and handle like a truck!

Trucks are overall cooler and more work oriented. You don’t have to worry about scratching and getting the interior dirty and smelling of plywood. They have better reliability and last longer and are built to work. Mid sise trucks are making a comeback. They get the same if not better fuel economy. Minivans are built for hauling kids. Trucks are meant to haul and get the job done.

Nobody seem to mind the smell of wood when they get into a Rolls Royce besides, the wood smell dissipates shortly after the plywood is unloaded. "They have better reliability..." Who says? "...and last longer ..." My first minivan went 235,000 miles before I sold it when it was 25 years old. Who knows how many more miles it has now? "...and are built to work." So my minivan wasn't built to work? Then how did it get all that work done? "Mid-size trucks are making a comeback. They get the same if not better fuel economy." I agree, but the flat loading surface in a mid-size truck is 3" wide and the length is even shorter than that of a full size truck. "Minivans are built for hauling kids." Actually, they were made for hauling adults as the rear seats are much more spacious than those found on other vehicles. They are so much more versatile than trucks as they were made for hauling cargo as well. I purchased my second minivan 10 years after my last kid moved out. It wasn't a coincidence that they made the load floor 4' X 8'. "Trucks are meant to haul and get the job done." I'll agree that they're meant to haul as they have a higher load weight capacity, but unless you order the extended 8' bed (which almost no one orders), they just don't have the 4' X 8' loading area that minivans do. Why don't you face the facts? Besides loading capacity, (which most truck owners never even approach unless they're hauling sand or boulders) there's only one other reason to buy a truck and you provided that reason at the beginning of your post. "Trucks are overall cooler..." That's your opinion but for the reasons listed above, I don't think they're cool at all.

Frank Howard we had a 2004 Grand Caravan AWD with load leveling suspension. We were building a barn at the time and loaded it with about 15 sheets of 1/2 inch plywood. Doors all shut, no squat, and handled it like a champ! I definitely have to agree with you that they can be workhorses! My wife and I still own a minivan. We love the fact that when we go out and see something that we want to buy, we have no worries of it fitting in our car. Plus, they are extremely comfortable as well.
