The 3.5L sounds so good when it hits VTEC. Definitely a quick minivan.
🤣
Yeah and pretty soon they aren’t gunna have vtec in it when they replace it with the enigine that’s in the pilot that is dohc
Watch the beginning of the SavageGeese review on the Honda Odyssey from a couple years ago, specifically the part from 0:45 to 1:00. I dont think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life, the sound surprised me so much and he’s fucking booking.

Couldn't agree more!
Oh ,that Honda sound is perfect ,great engine
It sure is!
Intake filter KN 💀🔥
That single cam, direct injected J Series is the best sounding V6 Honda has ever produced.
Acura NSX: "Am I a joke to you?"
@@franklinl.everett8801 You mean the NXS that molded high end sports cars.
I have a TLX TYPE S with the new J30 and my last car was an accord coupe. I like the 3.5's sound better still, but this one also sounds good
The 3.7 in the Acura TL sounds much better
@@Password450 Yeah, I like the screamer, too.
Honda’s single cam VTEC V6 still sounds great, too bad that engine is going away in favor of the new twin cam V6 that is in the Pilot.
It's a rock solid engine, but unfortunately Honda has to ditch it due to government emissions regulations, despite it meeting ULEV requirements. It doesn't make sense.
@@TheBreakfastLover that’s why I’m never getting rid of my 05 MDX. I just love this engine. I’m shopping for a 3rd or 4th gen TL right now. All that bs the government is pushing on us doesn’t add up.
@@jonck146It’s the times we’re living in. There can’t be v8s
And v6s for ever.
@@ZACH_95_ I know right! I’m gonna keep at least 1 v6 and 1 v8 until they stop making and/or selling parts for them. I’m really curious about what the agenda is behind all of this. The environment ain’t it!!!
@@ZACH_95_I don’t think the V6 will be gone but be changed just how the V8 is disappearing slowly. The new V8 are gonna be the V6 turbo with electric motors 🥲.
Always Honda in termofspeed, maneuverability, précision an drivability, even in minivans category ! They are the best. I'm not surprised at all because I own a 19 Pilot Touring and I know they both shared same engine but the Odyssey has better transmission.
I’m convinced the Honda V6 is underrated on power, I wonder if it would get more if you hooked it up to a dyno
If anything I think the KIA was overrated. The Odyssey had a significant power and weight advantage over the Toyota. The Toyota gets off the line faster with the electric motor torque but once the Honda motor was at the top of first gear at peak HP it was going to walk away from the Toyota, which it did.
It's not the power, it's the 10 speed transmission. I owned a 2019 Elite and it was a joy when passing on 2 lanes or the interstate. It was great in mountainous areas too as it was programmed wonderfully.
"We gotta pick up the kids"....hilarious.
Such an awesome video!! No one expected a minivan race. So awesome!!
Drove all of them. Honda has the best package, feel of the road and acceleration.
As the owner of a 22 MDX and 16 AV6, I know that J35 song all too well!!!!
That honda j series ain't not joke...
True, if only toyota kept their v6 from the old sienna, that one was pretty quick too ngl
They should use sienna v6 egine 296hp (2020) instead of hybrid model.
@@vanzhellsing4439 I agree, I feel like they should have made a hybrid a choice and kept the v6 as standard.. but what am i to say
They should’ve used the previous generation Sienna with the 2GR V6.
honda engines are amazing. always have been. I was rooting for the Carnival since it has the most hp but trannie and weight do not help.
Who in the Toyota dept. thought 245hp and 200 torques will work in such a heavy vehicle?
Great race! keep them coming Sam!
From a start up until about 40-50mph, the Toyota was in front of the Honda. I think it has plenty of power for daily use and freeway merging, plus gets better mpg. This is a minivan, not a race car. The Toyota also has better 0-60 than most small SUVs and economy cars
In daily use the Hybrid is quicker and easier to drive around town. Not many people will hold the throttle to the floor for 15 seconds.
@@rairadraiMajority of daily use is in freeway.
@@ouch1011 It doesn't get "better" mpg, it CRUSHES the others. Real-world people see MINIMUM 31 mpg combined from what I hear, with many reporting 35mpg + (because they don't drive like me). We would break 23mpg in our 2019 10-spd Elite running 75-80 on 500+ mile road trips. Wife averaged 22ish. I averaged 18-19mpg.
Drove the Toyota before purchasing the Honda (bought Honda used), and it felt great, as you mentioned, in normal use.
That’s why I got Honda and I used to be Toyota guy well still I’m but I got Honda van 3.5 with 10 speed. No 4 cylinder with CvT.
Odyssey is so strong, I love Honda’ sound.
My wife drives an older Sienna with the 3.5 V6 and 6 speed automatic, it is by no means sluggish.
This is i4 hybrid, its very slow if the battery is low.
Yeah those v6 Sieenas aint a joke
The Honda has the powerfull NA engine, the Kia has the nicest Interior with the lowest price and last the Toyota has a good MPG. Thanks Sam 😀
Kia is coming out with their hybrid MPV this year.

Vtec is on ...
That transmission is a perfect combination with that J engine that second Gear in that transmission is awesome ...is a Gap gear. Very tall, Gear, for pickup quick.
That Honda V6 sounds amazing!
That 3.5 with the 10 speed kickss
Ah, minivan drag race - the perfect way to start my day
Today's kids will never know the joy or the terror of borrowing mom's minivan pulling out all the seats (for weight reduction of course 😉), and grabbing 4 friends now lose in the rear compartment and trying to top speed the thing on a bumpy country road at what was realistically 107-112mph. Ah, the good 'ole days.
You sound like a fellow country guy 😂
Too bad all of them are governed at 110mph. I had ody, maxed at 110, feels like it can go even more easy
I have the exact same motor in my 2015 Accord V6 Coupe and IT IS THAT GOOD!
My wife recently totaled her TL Type-S and we have a growing family so we had to start thinking about bigger cars. I'm not a huge fan of SUVs and their prices, so i showed this to her and she said, "well, guess we're getting an Odyssey!" 😅
Hopefully everyone is okay 👍
@@SamCarLegion thanks buddy. Fortunately she was in car alone and no one was hurt.
The Honda 3.5 is a great engine. Wish it was still available in the Honda Accord. Also, I would love to have seen the Subaru Outback XT (not the standard 2.5, but the XT 2.4 turbo) included in this group. That would have made it even more interesting.
Sad they used the hybrid engine for sienna. I wish they got the seinna v6 engine with 296hp. Coming from 2020 sienna owner.
Not available anymore
Odyssey refresh is coming.
The sienna older vans are quick. We have one. The hybrid really slows them down.
As a prior 17 sienna owner that now owns a 21 platinum sienna: I don’t miss the 40 HP at all. 35 MPG average, I have tons of quality-of-life features that just weren’t available on the older models, the overall driving experience is much more luxurious and quiet as well.
I drive a 2016 Honda Pilot and the results were what I expected. I love that J series V6 it hauls!
Time to start selling "Honda Odyssey vs The World" merch. 😁
🤣🤣
Hi Sam. This was a good race comparison. Usually minivans don't race each other, but this was a good one. The Honda Odyssey has a better sounding exhaust than the other two. As for the race, the Honda Odyssey got all wins due to the fact that it's lighter in weight and the transmission shifts better. The Kia Carnival lost badly against the Honda Odyssey because it's too heavy. It would be interesting for the Kia Carnival to race against the Toyota Sienna. If that race would've taken place, the Sienna I think would beat it.
the honda 10 speed is just great, have the same in my 2.0t accord and the amount of cars that I shouldnt had beat is crazy lol.
Something so awesome to see minivans driving so fast. It puts a smile on my face. :)
Honda Odyssey is F1 of minivans. How the hell Carnival is so much slower with so much power even Sienna is faster
😂😂😂😂... This guy Sam took it to another level. Nobody expected that one lol
One of the last Honda models to have a VTEC V6 engine. It’s going to be missed because I’m sure the next generation Odyssey will be a Hybrid.
It will be the DOHC V6 with the 2nd gen 10-speed transmission.
The brown on the sienna is awesome ! so close to my dads 1973 LeMans brown lol
Finally the video I’ve been waiting for!!
I just test drove the Odyssey. I was happy that it was faster than my Civic EX.
I love these races ❤
I am curious about what the Chrysler Pacifica V6 would do compared to the Odyssey and Carnival.
Pacifica definitely give honda a run. It's smaller as well. I own a 15 odyssey and I hate to say this but the Pacifica is probably faster
@@badmandontdance 2015 odyssey 248hp , 2024 odyssey 280hp
Honda prioritizes performance than sales and Toyota prioritizes sales than performance.
I love this drag races, for some reason they’re very exciting 😂
Did you put the Sienna on Sport mode?
The Toyota not only gets better MPG it has higher resale and it will win in the reliability department.
That's because it's better built to last longer. Look up Honda engine problems it literally makes you never buy one. Toyota is made to last 300k+ miles. You'll be lucky if at 100 if your Honda doesn't have problems.
Not with the hybrid powertrain. Too complex. The simplicity of the Honda for the win😊
@@rosalynnweaver3295😂😂😂😂 yeah sure
This is like that Throttle House drag race between the accord, Mazda6, and Sonata and them saying “that damn accord. ITS A CONSPIRACY” 😂 that 10 speed does wonders
Nice! Surprised the Pacifica wasn’t included in this race
as a honda guy, i like the newer siennas but just despise that its got a cvt+i4, toyota should add an option for v6 and automatic like their older siennas
I had a 2020 version of the odyssey for a 2 year lease, it surprised my neighbors civic si, the power delivery instant & continuous. The spacious interior and reliability was amazing, averaging 25 mpg on a cross country drive with 4 passengers and a dog! The Toyota was carrying a lot more weight and that hybrid electric motor won in short sprints at the line, and the 10 speed aided a passing gear with electric torque to hang on a bit with Honda. I’d say hybrid is the future of automotive power, however Honda built that NA V6 (old tech) with an amazing punch!!!
I agree styling does go to the Kia.
Im not even a dad, im 29 . But that honda looks delicious.
Kia makes great looking vehicles, but I’m not spending my money on ANY of them. And how did you source a hybrid AWD Sienna? That’s a 2-year wait vehicle, good job finding that!
I’ve seen some at my local dealer.
2 year wait if you build your own. Plenty on lots
Love to see the Pilot vs Telluride Vs Grand Highlander (non- hybrid max to keep power figures as competitive as possible). Fun videos!
Challenge accepted
Awesome, that should be a good video, thanks!@@SamCarLegion
Can you also put in the Subaru acsent and the volkswagen atlas v6?
So this ten speed is reliable? I’ve had my share of trans issues with a couple of older odyssey’s
Bro the odyssey's got paddleshifters. Those kids ain't gonna be waiting long after their Dad's meeting😂😂
Good review! That Honda oddy engine sounds very similar to my 07 Honda pilot, almost the same identical sound.
kias heavier weight is the main culprit i would say
Barely heavier, do keep in mind, Kia has 10 more Hp. It’s either the 10 speed is too good, or the 8 speed is really bad.
Heavier weight, and less aggressive transmission.
I honestly didn't think the Honda was going to Gap everyone so bad well, except for the Toyota. My parents have a palisade, and that thing boogies pretty good for what it is. Maybe Honda and BMW collaborated in BS power numbers LOL
Please do more of weird and different car/truck/van/minivan races please thank you.
Absolute track weapons!
That odysssey is sure fast, but lacks everything else compared to the other two, especially the features people want. It’s the oldest anyways. Due for a redesign. I bet the odyssey would smoke a C300 without the C brake torquing
Do tell all of the features the Honda doesn’t have that people supposedly want because that’s a pretty rare comment especially with the odyssey’s interior configuration and design being far more user friendly than the others despite being an older platform. The driving experience alone puts it above the competition.
No sir
Sam your drag videos keep getting better. Love them. How about some drag queens racing?
Not a bad idea
☠️☠️☠️
LoL😁🔥😁
Part of this is the 10 speed amazing transmission Honda is using. I have the same 10 speed in my 10th Gen Accord 2.0T… the gearing in it is fantastic!
nobody’s talking about how the 2.5L hybrid sienna is quicker than that kia carnival in the 1/4 mile.. sienna got 15.9 seconds and the carnival got 16.1
Honda has V-tech mah boi. It's not even comparable😂 people be sleepin on Hondas. The 2016 Honda Accord EX-L can outrun the first Gen Modern Dodge Charger RT's. Not surprising with a car with that sleeper V-6 makin 278hp and 251tq and weighs 3600 lbs, the automatic on average goes to 60 in 6.2 and the 6-spd Manual goes 0-60 in 5.6-5.8 on average and u dont have to worry as much about wheel spin as much as those heavy charger. Still a torquey little car, has better power to weight ratio than the last Mitsubishi Evo. Yeah, the new Honda Accord are probably faster, but the 2016 accord has the best design in my opinion and sounds amazing.
It's vtec without the H.
@@anthonylim2428 ik bro, autocorrect tryna do it's thing🤣
I wish all manufacturers would seriously update their mini vans to compete with the SUVs on the market
That Honda J-series V6 is impressive.
you need to do more races like this!! like the new pilot and the competition? 🎉
Kia definitely wins for the looks. It looks kinda like a big SUV.
I owned a 2023 odyssey. Loved it. Smooth ride everyday
Toyota needs to put the 2.4T hybrid from the GHL in the Sienna and get rid of that CVT.
Would love to see the Pacifica.
does the sienna have a track mode?
i enjoyed the video showcasing real world practical vehicles. if you're suck between a truck or coming into a passing lane and u want to hustle why not because it's a van u wouldn't want to push through to the front just like anyone else 😎
Liked the comparison, I’m a Toyota guy 🫢. You have a ressemblance to Jay Leno👍🏻
I got a 2019 Odyssey with the 10 speed Honda built transmission. Fastest minivan west of the Mississippi River. But I only average 20.8 miles gallon. Got that lead foot.
The older gen sienna with the 3.5V6 301hp would've definitely given the oddesey a run for its money. I've driven the V6 sienna and it was pretty impressive.
Guess there's a reason why Odyssey made it to Forza lol
This race can only be topped by a race of lawn mowers. There is grass to be cut. Can’t wait 😂😂😂
Lmao. I was waiting for the surprised face and the fun smirk people always get when they get into a car that's faster than expected. It's faster than most sports cars from 80s and early 90s.. glad someone showed the vtec power that car has love the sound it makes when vtec kicks in!
Odyssey is equipped with 10 speed auto , the best transmission from honda .
odyssey is an amazing minivan, no surprise became the best-selling minivan last year
Honda/V-tec all day baby lol. But you got to love Honda motors I think they are the best motors ever made. They sound good they have good power and they last for ever. The best motor they ever made is the K series and the J series. Also don’t get me wrong the lil B series and D series are bulletproof motors you can even boost the hell out of them and they will take it all day. Also you can have no oil in them and they still will drive for months lol.
Honda Odyssey sent them to Gapplebee's while take the kids to Applebee's!! Thats a 2 in 1 special!!!
I like Honda Odyssey. I almost get the brand new 2024 EXL last week. The problem was I'm not satisfied with the trade in value they offered for my existing 2007 Odyssey 😕
Sat in a sienna and it did not impress me like the older generations. The 4 cylinder killed it
This was really cool to watch! Thanks!! Great job honda!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, great fun to watch, that Honda Odyssey Rock and Rolls, very impressive, and very impressive fuel economy on the Toyota Sienna. Well done
Before watching the video, from a design perspective, Kia is the winner in my opinion. Let's look at the performance.
We spent 22 yrs in various minivans (2 Sienna's and 2 Odyssey's), with 5 kids who are now mostly grown. When we were "stuck" with them, I preferred the Honda because it's the "sportiest" and has the best driving dynamics. But now that everyone is growing up (16 and 19 yr old still at home, both have their own cars) and we have little actual "need" for a minivan, I sometimes think about buying one again just for road trips (we currently have a '20 F150 Platinum EB stage 1, '22 Model 3 Perf. and a '17 Accord Sport that my youngest drives). But the one I would buy is the Sienna Hybrid, for it's comfortable ride quality and excellent MPG's. The hybrid powertrain is powerful enough to get the job done without frustration and, to me, it's the most pleasant one to ride in, very quiet and smooth. You do have to get used to the weird exterior styling, but you're already driving a minivan so you've already "given up on life" anyway haha.
I honestly enjoyed this video😊
I had a 2003 Mazda MPV with a 3.0 V6. That thing was damn quick for a minivan
LOL..no contest for the Sienna. I always wonder how the HP from the Toyota works. The reported HP is with the electric motor assists, but what happen once it reaches a certain speed where the electric motor is no longer assist. That said, my 2023 Sienna made 36.5 MPG when I first attempt the MPG challenge. It is now 32.5MPG for normal driving.
In tonight’s race, we have three contestants who could go to the soccer game the quickest, on the left, we have the Honda Odyssey, in the middle we have the Kia Carnival, and on the right, we have the Toyota Sienna. Who will win this drag race today to soccer practice? Stay tuned to find out.
Is there not a V6 option for the sienna?
Not anymore, Toyota went Hybrid only with the 4th generation Sienna.
I already knew the Honda was gonna win before clicking on this video. It just has the best engine.
Ontario licence plates? Glad to see another Canadian car channel 🇨🇦😎💪👍
Yes we are
Kia carnival se parece a una Ford Explorer 😅... Honda Odissey Vtec Win 👍💪
*take the Japanese 3.5L Honda VTEC and pair it with a German 9-speed ZF transmission (basically the same transmission on many German performance cars like the BMWs)*
No wonder why Honda won. The Gen3 Pilots and the Honda Odysseys are no joke.
Unfortunately Honda is doing away with the VTEC motor on Gen 4 Honda Pilot
Will be looking forward to see Pacifica vs Odyssey
You should make that Honda odyssey race some of other slow cars you know since we saw on this video how powerful it is as a minivan in my perspective
