We have a 2021 Sienna, bought new and now with 36k miles. We are a family of 8 and can confidently says the Sienna is a phenomenal vehicle. Drives comfortably with plenty of room. Not a single issue, defect or problem. We can haul all 8 of us for a week’s vacation no problem and still get 37 mpg. You just can’t beat that.

Agree, can take out the second row. But haven’t had to do that yet and don’t expect to since we have a suburban and trailers. That only reason I would like to take out the second row would be to sleep in the back. But the economy, reliability (so far), and power and performance is pretty good. Put it in sport mode and it will go.

I own a 2017 Grand Caravan. it has the earlier version of stow-n-go, so not quite as simple to fold all the seats, but still workable. in less than 5 minutes I can turn the van from a 7 passenger vehicle to having an enclosed space that does fit 8 by 4 ft plywood sheets (yep, done it). With the improved interior and stow-n-go, and all wheel drive, I'd go for the Pacifica. I get the need for better fuel economy, but my priorities are utility, comfort, and safer driving on the highway due to having a more responsive drive train. And one more thing, which ever vehicle you buy, you'll be living with it every day for a long time, so you might was well be as comfortable as you can be.

I have a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica (first year of production) with 68,000 miles on it. It's headed to the shop this week for a weird vibration in the steering wheel when turning at slow speeds. Transmission occasionally shifts hard. That said, I've used it to haul 4x8 sheets of plywood, a huge gazebo in a box and tons of other stuff... plus people of course. Being able to convert from 7 passenger mode to 'truck' mode in under two minutes is phenomenal. I have to hand it to Toyota for reliability but I'd still buy another Chrysler just for the stow-n-go.

I have actually owned both. I would buy the Sienna over the Pacific for a few reasons.
    1) Fuel economy, especially in city driving will save you alot of money each month compared to the non-plug in Pacifica.
    2) Reliability, no issues with the Sienna, we had to take the Pacifica to the dealer alot for issues and the radio touch screen literally went out on the way to trade it in to get a new Sienna.
    3) Resale, the Sienna will bring a lot more money than the Pacifica when you go to sale it or tade it in.

You would have to keep your car many hundreds of thousands of miles to make up for the higher purchase price in fuel savings. Since most people are trading in cars every 3-5 years, the savings isn’t there and both will be reliable for 10yrs /100k miles without issue.

Math isn't favorable for the Pacifica in basically any scenario, and the difference becomes even greater when you compare overall budget vs reliability/safety (risk)
Pacifica MPG: 19 City, 28 Highway, 23 Average
      Sienna MPG: 36/36/36
Average miles driven per year in USA: 15,000
Pacifica Yearly Average Fuel Cost (City)
      15,000 miles
      ÷19 MPG
      = 789 gallons a year
      ---------------
      789 gallons
× $3.85 average cost of 1 gallon of unleaded
= $3039 in fuel per year
      VS
Sienna Yearly Average Fuel Cost (City)
      15,000 miles
      ÷36 MPG
      = 417 gallons a year
      ---------------
      417 gallons
× $3.85 average cost of 1 gallon of unleaded
= $1605 in fuel per year
      Fuel Value Comparison
      $3039 - $1605 = $1434 fuel savings per year in the Sienna
$7,170 over 5 years, Pacifica warranty is expired at 5 year/60k miles (or 4 years at 15k miles yearly)
Toyota Hybrid Battery warranty is 10 years/150k miles (10 years at 15k miles yearly)
If you're mostly driving in the city with lots of stops, that's $14,340 in fuel savings in the Sienna over 10 years with 2.5x more warranty and statistically proven reliability on average over the Pacifica (anecdotes unwelcome)
Highway-driving-only number of 28 MPG on the Pacifica makes the difference $450/year vs the 36 MPG, $2,250 over 5 years, $4500 over a decade
OVERALL AVERAGE at 23 MPG is a difference $900/year, or $9k more in gas over 10 years
Fuel range on the Pacifica is 323/425 vs 648 on the Sienna
Pacifica = lower cost, less warranty, statistically higher likelihood to need warranty, more stops, higher fuel bill
Time in the shop even under warranty = unknown time expense = unknown $
Pacifica overall safety rating from the IIHS: "Good"
Sienna overall safety rating: Top Safety Pick+
The Pacifica makes sense if you never have an issue or an accident and drive highway only. Basically it requires a perfect roll of the dice.

I own that same Sienna and rented for two weeks the Pacifica and your review is spot on as well as your conclusion. Actually I was surprised (pleasantly) that I got as much as 24mpg with the Pacifica. My 2006 Sienna has a V6 and returns only 16mpg no matter how gingerly you accelerate. I'd like more info on the differences between the AWD systems. I know the Sienna has electric motors (hybrid engine) and that means it's mostly FWD unless cornering or weather determines AWD is required. It's not full time AWD. By the way, those electric motors on the Toyota are why it starts with more perceived torgue over the Pacifica. Basically, if the Pacifica made a break-regenative Hybrid for this van I'd buy it hands down. Worth mentioning - as of 2021 the Toyota still does not have wireless Apple car play and Android Auto, automatic-variable speed wipers and preset seat function. In my 78 years, I have had Japanese, German, Swedish, and Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge cars. Don't want another Japanese car, they skimp in many places and are uncomfortable. Absolutely loved my SAAB convertible and the way it drove, but repairs were expensive. Rabbit, Sirocco drove well but uncomfortable. Sirocco was the best car ever in the snow, was one of three cars on the road plowing through a Kansas blizzard to get a stranded friend and snow drifts up to the top of the grill. Amazing car. Dodge minivan and Durango were great. Finally traded the Durango at 200,000 miles with no problems except for a new fuel pump somewhere around 100,000. Jeep Grand Cherokee was also reliable for 100,000 miles at which point (2019) we decided to try the Pacifica Hybrid. LOVE this minivan. Cost of electricity to charge is miniscule and in the first 6 months saved over $200 in gas. Even though we are retired and didn't have many miles on the 2019 Pacifica, we just traded in for a new Pacifica 2023 hybrid. Why? Because with the 2023 discount, the $7500 credit, and the high trade in value of our 2019, it cost us less than $20,,000 overall, taxes and everything. I don't expect those deals to last. So we have another Pacifica hybrid with all the stow capability, safety features and comfort. And, my husband with his long legs, can get in and out easily, something he couldn't do with other brands, like Toyota. And, just for information, we used to live next to a detailer who fixed up car interiors for dealers. He told us that Chrysler/Dodge interiors were much higher quality than any other brand and things like the upholstery stood the test of time better. My two cents.

I bought my 2023 the Pacifica just because of the 6 cylinder engine and the amazing comfort and luxury inside the van. 😅

I feel like this could have been made a better comparison. You have a luxury Chrysler that isn't a hybrid against a midtrim Toyota that is a hybrid. You could at least try to make it a truly even comparison as far as trim and drivetrain go.

2018 Pacifica. Only issue I’ve had is the driver sliding door ghost and replaced auxiliary battery.

I've rented both and put on 10s of thousands of miles on them. For moving people I like the the Sienna, for moving cargo the Pacifica. If I were buying one it would be the Toyota. I like the comfort and driving experience better. I'd bet the resale and reliability will be better with the Sienna too.

On Pacifica you missed the button that will move the front seat up and out of the way for you for stow and go and then push it again and it moves seat back to previous setting. You do not have to hold front seat adjusters.

The Pacifica is about 15k less than a sienna here. It’s the only mass produced vehicle I can name that is still selling as fast as they come in over msrp. Pacifica you can get 10k off combined.

That's exactly it. No one is going to argue the Toyota is more reliable but it's more basic. The Chrysler is overall more functional and luxurious.

We all know you guy's preferred Toyota over any American brand. I would rather have the Oomph of power when getting on a busy Highway and also Towing, plus better handling, then gas mileage cause Family safety is a more concerning issue!, Toyota is falling on it's accolade, and having a variable transmission ( a k a,Captain crunch), is outrageous. TFL when did you get compliant.

Toyota ruined the Sienna for me when the only engine option given is a 4 cyl hybrid. I'm not hip to the hybrid. The 6 cyl was and is a great engine choice for this vehicle. Our 2005 is still going strong without a single problem other than the dash cracking. But I'd drive it on a long trip with no problem. Come on Toyota give us a non hybrid choice.
